So something really awesome happened today and i need to gloat for a bit. I can't really put it on Facebook for reasons stated below.
So I've had my new job now for about 3 months now. I work as a hostess at what is definitely the swankiest restaurant I've ever worked at. Not exactly the highest-class place, but it's got some pretty great food, an ASTOUNDING selection of beer and a very lively crowd. Started off at $9/hr at my position. Kinda eh, but with the hours they've been giving me (around 30 per week as opposed to the measly 10-15 at oldjob) it makes for a very pretty paycheck. A few weeks ago, I asked if I was ready for a pay raise. Yeah, it was a bit early but 1) the other hosts tend to be paid more than me. True, most have been here longer, but I also technically count as part of the "opening crew" like them and 2) It seems like when there is a moment to say it, the manager I work with that day at the front desk has something nice to say about my work performance. So I make the request and get "let me bring it up with the general manager as he has the final say on that".
Welp, I heard back today. Effective next pay period, I start my new rate of $10 an hour. I was expecting $.25, maaybe $.50, but I got me a whole dollar raise! In just under 3 months! The GM said "because we want you to know how much your hard work is appreciated", then proceeded to ask me if I had any plans for promotion some time in the future to bar, expo, server, whatever. Then before I left asked me to keep it on the DL so that it didn't start a shitstorm of people who don't deserve raises whining about why they didn't get one, too.
Just PFFFFFFFTTTTTTT.
THIS is why hard work pays off, ladies and gentlemen. It's not easy to not cut corners and to be nice to people who don't deserve it, but hard work doesn't always go unnoticed, even if you think it does. There's this one girl who's always on my case about me being "too thorough". Yanno, when she's not whining about the job and the work she has to do and being openly inappropriate right in front of the guests. I do my dance (quietly, as it is to late for such shenanigans) filled with many Take That, Bitch-pelvic thrusts. I can't really post it anywhere else as I'm friends with a few of the other hosts on Facebook (including one that recently got fired) and I don't really frequent too many other forums.
NOT TO MENTION how much of an improvement over my last job this is. Late reviews combined with "yeah, it's awesome how much you work your ass off here! Here's a $.25 raise!" I mean, true, oldjob could not afford to pay what newjob pays being a smaller company, BUT STILL.
I'm just so stoked about this right now. So yeah, Otakon next year? Unless there's a scheduling problem, it is a go.
