Heilyn had found herself an exceedingly wonderful spot in the garden for herself. It had been requested that she spend as little time on "public" Court furniture as possible. Fine. Whatever. She lounged on a bench seated comfortable under a tree, reading a book. It was on magic spells, abilities, and like. She was interested in reteaching herself the magic lessons she'd only half-learned while she was younger. This time it should be more interesting as she would be teaching herself rather than having some stuffy old owl who seemed to delight in making everything as dry and boring as he was. Her legs crossed as she lay on her back, taking up the bench, the one on the top waving up and down gently, lazily. She hummed softly as she paged rather quickly through the book. She was very amused, the author of this book had a wonderful, but subtle sense of humor. The humming stopped and her ears swiveled around behind her. She heard footsteps heading in her general direction. She returned her attention back to the book, hoping whoever it was didn't stop to talk to her.

Peaches stopped dead in her tracks when she saw the person sitting in her usual seat. The few times that Peaches remembered to eat she liked to come out here and eat her lunch. Today, however, someone new was there. Heilyn... that was the only bog dweller that she had heard of, and briefly spied on. She had heard rumors, but nothing particularly out of the ordinary. She smirked as an idea popped into her head. As quietly as she could she went up to the opposite side of the tree. Putting her bagged lunch in her mouth carefully, she began to climb the tree with as little noise as possible. Once she was at the proper limb above the bench, in an amazing feat of actual grace, the woman hung from the tree branch by her knees. "Hello!" she said quite cheerily as she set the bagged lunch down next to Heilyn. "You must be Her Excellence, Heilyn?"

Heilyn was so concentrated on the footsteps that she just knew were headed straight for her (they were just those of a servant attending the garden), that she did not notice the cat approach or climb the tree right next to her...
Suddenly there was a bag lunch next to her, purple hair dangling into her view, and a voice. Heilyn gave a start, dropping her book and losing her place. Her strange yellow eyes glared up in annoyance at the intruder. Long, purple hair, straight jacket, somewhat intrusive...
"Yes, I am. You must be Her Excellence Peaches," she stated rather flatly, "Did you need something from me?"
She remembered a vague description given to her by Xiven. Heilyn knew of no other Torquehelmers wearing straightjackets that served the courts. She was surprised anyone still approached her. After the mass of curiosity grated on her, she gained a reputation for her unfriendliness. Yet, as this moment is evidence, curiosity wins out common sense every time.

Peaches withheld a chuckle. She was rather amused that not many people could appreciate her greeting. At least the coyote hadn't smacked her or anything. That would have been particularly mess. She was sure.
With a wiggle she made herself slightly more comfortable from her position. She was going to stay like this as long as she could. "Oh, nothing really. You were just sitting on the bench that I normally eat at and I simply wanted to say Hello. I'm sure you know how it is. Plus, I heard plenty of rumors about how unfriendly you are."
She couldn't help but cat smirk, it was something that came to her naturally as she hung from the tree. "So would you mind if I eat while you continue to read your book? Sorry about startling you. I figured that you heard me when I was climbing the tree."

Unfriendly... yes... "stay out of arm's reach of that one" wasn't exactly the reputation she found desirable as a member of the court, especially since people found it necessary to approach her anyway. Growling just a bit she picked up her book and went back to finding her place. She was rather irritated with herself for being caught off-guard, especially by somebody as obviously annoying as the crazy little Torquer in front of her.
"No, I don't know how it is. If I've heard of someone else's adversity to social situations, I generally do not feel a compulsion to approach them. Did you want me to move? I'd be more than happy to." Well, no, she was not more than happy to. She liked this spot she found, but if it meant she'd have to share it with a nosy cat, then she wouldn't be so fond of it.

Peaches tilted her head to one side. This seemed to be miscommunication at it's finest. That or everyone except a select few were stuffed shirts. The select few being a man who tortured people and an axe that could take a human form. Oh, what wonderful exceptions they were.
She raised an eyebrow at the book that the coyote had picked up. Wasn't that a beginner's magic book? That was an interesting topic of conversation. Enough that Peaches might be able to hold a conversation with someone who wasn't herself. "Beginner's magic? I figured someone like you would be a little more advanced then that or are you just brushing up on your spells? I have a rather interesting book about attack magic that I got from a Highlander noble a while back. It's actually quite interesting, though I'm horrible when it comes to attack magic that doesn't involve fortifying a weapon."
Maybe that would be enough? Just a little? It was a lot of words but perhaps Heilyn would be interested in borrowing the book at least.

Found it! Heilyn was very happy she had found her place. Then that damnable cat spoke again... and she said something that really hit a nerve with her. Her ears visibly twitched as she glared back up at the cat. If I had only not been born such a low rank... I would be the battle tank now that my mother once was... Heilyn had many spells and abilities... only they were half learned and rather useless at the moment. She sighed as the other one continued. My Gods, the woman talked a mile a minut-- attack magic? Now she was more willing to loosen up and talk some more.
"Many people overlook the basics because they're so simple. However, resourceful usage of even the simplest skills can create deadly combinations," she raised an eyebrow, "Tell me more about this book..." she wondered if the court library had a copy.

"It's apparently a limited edition of someone's work," Peaches said as she flipped up to sit on the branch. She then proceeded to jump out of the three to land on the ground in front of the bench. She moved her bagged lunch before sitting down besides the canine and smiling.
"It talks about the advanced functions of summoning magic. Such as using creatures from another plan of existence that may actually be someone's cursed soul." She paused to opened her bag and pull out a small sandwich. Peaches honestly wished it was tuna fish, but she had gone with a simple peanut butter and jelly sandwich today. Oh well. "I was told by my employer at the time that there were only seven or so copies of the book still in existence. It's supposed to be pretty controversial stuff that it discusses. Personally, I think it's pretty clean cut. Dangerous stuff too."
She took a bite of her sandwich and waited.

Heilyn blinked. Only seven copies? Advanced summoning? Summoning cursed souls from another plane of existence? Heilyn laughed quite loudly.
"You had me going there for a second," she was quite amused, "Pray tell, if this book is so dangerous, why would somebody give it to you?" Ah, Heilyn. So few inhibitions to let people know what she thought... unless it would screw her over royally... suddenly something that Xiven told her came rushing back to her. CRAP. I forgot about Pravus... She didn't know what the status of their relationship was now, but she sure as hell wasn't taking any chances.
"I'm sorry, that came out wrong.... I didn't mean it as it sounded, honest," Such a good liar she was. "It just seems so surreal to know someone with something so rare, y'know? Usually it's a 'my friend has a cousin who knows a guy' kinda things." Hopefully that attempt at a joke would help blow the insult over.

Downright amused. Peaches smirked at the other woman's utter disbelief. Playing the idiot was fun. No one knew what you really did. Or that you watched them while they were having sex and such. All the better when you told them the truth.
Peaches whispered, "I may look like an idiot, but looks are often deceiving. Remember that next time you talk to someone. If you can tell that my daughter isn't stupid, I thought you might be able to get the clue. Apparently not." She smirked as she took another bite of her sandwich and throughly chewed it.
Anyway. She might as well get back to the book. "I really do have a copy of it. I worked as someone's assistant while I was in the Highlands studying the courts for two years. You can see it, I suppose, but after that comment I doubt you would believe me if I even showed it to you."
