Peaches raised an eyebrow, and readjusted herself in the tree. "Yes, a lovely little kitten named Eldyria. A six who gets into quite a bit of trouble when I'm not careful." She gave a sigh. That girl was indeed her child, and she could never mention the father to anyone or there would be hell to pay.
And in honesty, Peaches would never want innocent blood shed. Regardless of how misbehaved that innocent was. Children were just a bundle of spiteful joy. Half the time Peaches didn't know what to do with them. "Though if you were talking with Xiven, she probably called her half sister Eldy. Oh, and her pet is named Fluffy. She's particularly fond of her."
She tilted her head, "And you? Do you have any children?" Heilyn certainly didn't seem like the type to have children running around, but neither did Peaches. It couldn't hurt to ask really.

"Ah, yes. I've heard her mention an 'Eldy' and a 'Fluffy' once." Though the subject was never elaborated on. Good to know. Her ear twitched again at the mention of Heilyn's motherhood.
"No," she shook her head, "No children here. I'm... trying to hold off on that at least until I'm a little more settled in my life here." And a suitable mate she thought, disregarding the image of wings and a brown-with-blue-accents-furred man that made itself very well known in the back of her mind. However, she kept that thought to herself as her romantic life (or lack thereof, be it the case now) was none of the cat's business. Heilyn turned away from the cat to the rest of the garden, looking it over. It really was a lovely place. It relaxed her, even despite the fact that her alone time had been interrupted.

Peaches tilted her head. "You certainly are responsible enough to have children if you think like that. I was in no way ready for children." And she really still wasn't ready for anything of the sort. Half the time she wasn't around and half the other time she was just guessing at what she needed to do.
There wasn't a handbook on how a crazy woman should be a good mother. It was all guess work--because Peaches sure as hell didn't have a good role model for it. But that wasn't here or there. She looked down at the coyote with a vaguely amused expression. She could just let the woman go and enjoy the rest of her book or she could continue to pester. Choices, choices.
"Do you read other books? Like... novels or do you just stick with learning tools?" Novel book people had some interesting stuff to say sometimes. At least most of them had creativity.

She gave a stifled laugh at her comment. Sure, it put her a step above in responsibility in comparison to those who had children unprepared, but it certainly didn't make her eligible. She shuddered at the thought of having children at this point in her life. She just... maybe in a another year at least. Guh, her? Kids?
"Naw, I read novels, too, but most of the ones I read haven't been translated and exported from my home region yet, so I'm going to assume you haven't read them. though I enjoy novels more, I tend to read more of these types of books," she indicated the one in her hands, "It just happens to work out that way." She shrugged. Self-improvement always came first before play. Productivity has its own rewards... but few things beat an exquisitely well-written romance novel parody at the end of the day.

"I suppose I have to once they're translated, but I'm sure that will take a long while," Peaches said as she decided she had enough time in the tree. With acrobatics only a cat could preform she made it out of the tree and back onto the bench safely. After straightening out her skirt and shaking out a few twigs from her hair she continued.
"What genres of novels do you read? You don't seem like the type to read romance." Peaches snorted. That was a spectacular mental image. Then again, people's choice in books didn't always reflect their nature. Though it was fun to assume things. "Personally I only read adventure novels, even if most of them are poorly written. I just... like them because you have to wonder how people come up with all of it."
Right, but no one really cared about Peaches preference in books now did they? "Improving oneself and powers is always a good thing to do. Without self improvement everyone would be at a horrible loss."

"Not so much romance, but one of my favorites was a parody of romance novels. It's-- well, if it comes out here, I hope the translation will do it justice-- it's just brilliant. I won't spoil it for you, unless the translation ends up being awful," she mused.
"I try to avoid adventure/action novels written by people who've obviously never been so much as in a fight before. The misconceptions of things such things just grates me the wrong way and makes the reading unbearable, no matter how great the rest of it may be. However, I do like the time and thought spent on developing a completely imaginary world," she said, agreeing with Peaches' statement. Well, this interaction wasn't turning out to be as bad as many of the others she'd had...
Oh, we're changing subjects, then? Alright. She shrugged, a little taken aback a how perceptive this woman was. She used words very close to what she had going through her mind. Heilyn hoped for Peaches' sake this was coincidence. If she had someway of reading her mind... well, Heilyn'd have to do something about that, now wouldn't she? It would probably be violent, too.
"Yeah. Even then, there are people who never seek to improve themselves, despite the amazing things people around them do." She smirked, thinking of her sister back home. Useless wench.

Meticulous when it came to details, check. Peaches raised an eyebrow at the last part of her statement. "Most people seek out improvement as a natural order of things." The woman said as she rested her head in her hands, elbows propped against her knees in thought. It looked rather uncomfortable, but Peaches enjoyed this position more than most.
"Even if improvements are small and selfish, they're still very much improvements. The best example I can think of is, wanting to be a better person by helping people without advancing your rank. All you do is change your attitude and help a few people out. It's still self improvement even if that person isn't going to remember tomorrow," She said. There was a better example somewhere but she couldn't quite think of it without revealing a bit of her past. No thank you. "Everyone has to strive for something. Otherwise... well that would be a boring life."

Power.
It was a subject Heilyn was rather fond of.
"Well, of course," she waved a hand, "Improvement comes is forms other than ascending in rank. The problem..." she paused, finding herself quickly reaching this point, "...the problem is... when you finally achieve what you've been striving for, is it possible to not be happy or feel incomplete?" She was just thinking out loud, but the more she thought about it, the more is scared her a little. Would she be happy when there was nothing left to fight to achieve? She'd worked her way up from nearly nothing. A three in her animal form. Now she was a Jack, serving as the liaison between two worlds and fast on her way to her human form. There wasn't a day that went by that she didn't work to raise her status, that she had to sacrifice something else to make time for what she perceived as more important. She looked down at her lap....
...and she saw the book and shook herself. There will always be something to strive for. It made her happy. Heilyn was the type for person who'd never been completely happy where she was, and never will be. There's always room for more. She had forgotten Peaches for a moment.

"Of course it is. I achieved what I wanted in life, but I was very unhappy about it, so I set a new goal for myself. I'm still not happy unless I have something to go for, even if it is a tiny goal in the massive spectrum of life." Peaches said quite absently as she stared at the garden in front of her.
Nothing she did really mattered did it? All she could do was watch. She didn't really mind watching all that much. Getting involved was usually quite a huge mess. She shook herself out of he thoughts for a moment and looked back at the coyote. "I suppose this is all very silly. We probably shouldn't be talking about goals. Doing them is much more practical. However--" she smirked, "Reading for too long does hurt your eyes. You don't want glasses when you're older do you?"
