It was too nice of a day to be inside and thus it was a day that one could find a red mouse and a small owl relaxing in one of the gardens that decorated the Court of Clubs. The Queen was sitting resting his back against a tree, his attention focused on the letter before him. Whip had sent it just recently, telling him about everything that was going on with his son. He had not had the chance to meet the lad since the delivery, but it was looking like the lad would be big enough to come for a visit soon. It was something the mouse was both looking forward to and was extremely nervous over. Pascha, the small owl, which could often be found around The Queen when he was not in official meetings, had long ago made his way into the tree that the mouse now rested against. Anyone who was making their way through the Courtyards could come across the pair, if visitors would be welcomed or not was not known.

Pascha was indeed up the tree, having spotted a small (non-card, of course) squirrel that promised to entertain him for about five minutes. It only lasted three before the squirrel jumped to another tree and he was too lazy to follow, so he ended up sprawling on the biggest branch in the tree and becoming quite comfortable. It was a fairly low one, so much that he was visible from the ground, and he was able to watch Aderlass if he wanted to. As the owl gradually began falling asleep, he gradually began slipping, but it escaped his notice. It got to the point where his talons and wings were the only thing holding him up in the tree, but he was doing it unconciously, and so his hold was loosening. It was enough to keep him up there in his sleep, but anything that startled him was likely to send him flying to the ground..

Malchiah grumbled under his breath a bit, straightening feathers as he moved up the walkway towards the palace of clubs. He was a thin Card, though not emaciated. Either genetically he was 'lucky' or he'd gone a while without proper meals. In his case it was the latter. The lakelander loved wandering, living off the land, but lately he had found it harder. Whereas random people would give food to a wandering child, they didn't seem quite as willing to do so with an adult. Especially an adult biped. It wasn't his fault that when he turned 18 he was suddenly gifted with the form, but most held it against him. Sure he could have switched back to his animal form, but then he wouldn't have hands. It was time to get a job, he decided, so here he was. The sparrow's stomach suddenly clenched, well, maybe in an hour.. . He'd search out the Queen. Yes, later. And so he wandered around in the garden. Imagine his surprise when he turned a corner and there he was. Oh . . . no. . . he wasn't ready yet, not yet. But he knew he had been spotted and it would have been rude to turn and walk back the way he came. The sparrow took a few more steps before doing a quick low bow. "Your Majesty. . . I uh . . My name is Malchiah. It's a pleasure to meet you. .?" His voice rose at the end with his nervousness, making it sound nearly like a question.

Oblivious to the unstable position of the owl he glanced up when he heard nearing foot steps.
Seeing the Sparrow nearing where they rested, he eyed the male taking in the markings and colors that designated him as from the Selkie Lakes. He also noted the marks of an eight and Club on his chest. So this was one of his people, huh?
At the Sparrows low bow and words he raised an eyebrow. Which promptly rose higher when he heard the low thud sound of the hitting the ground as the owl fall out of the tree. Turning his attention away from the Sparrow for a moment he looked over to see the owl now on the land. Seeing that the owl was okay he turned back to the Sparrow.
“Greetings Malchiah . . . that was quite a way to make an entrance.” He could not help the grin that spread on his face.

Pascha never registered that someone had spoken, but his brain responded regardless. His talons' grip on the tree loosened immediately, and he went--
SMACK.
--into the nice, hard ground next to Aderlass. He laid there for a few minutes, unmoving and silent, but then began swearing rather creatively as he slowly sat up and tried to figure out if he'd broken anything.
Of course, as soon as he looked up to figure out what had happened he saw Malchiah talking to Aderlass and bushed a deep red--though thankfully his feathers hid a lot of that--for reasons unknown to him. The owl immediately scrambled to his feet and literally hid behind the tree he'd fallen out of without so much as a word to either of them. Pascha considered climbing back up the tree to get away, but that would involve making a lot of noise (the first time had hardly been quiet) which would attract more attention from this unknown person, and also gave him the possibility of falling out once more.
He didn't intend to fall asleep again, but you never knew.
The owl also considered simply flying or running away, but no doub Aderlass would severly chide him later for that.. the mouse didn't like him not liking people, but people didn't like him! It was fair game!

Malchiah jumped when he heard the loud sound and his startled eyes saw the owl upon the ground. That. . was. . his fault? The sparrow started forwards to try and 'help' but the owl was too fast and was behind the tree before he moved.
"Oh I am so sorry!" His face still looked shocked, and worried. He had managed to injure someone in the court of clubs barely after he had just introduced himself. Great, just great.
"I didn't mean to. . I should, maybe leave? Or um, help or? . . " Great Malc, great way to be smooth.
But he couldn't leave, not before he asked for what he had come for, could he? And suddenly, to Malc's COMPLETE horror words were spilling from his beak before he could stop them.
"I'd really like a job, any job really I can do and will do. Just don't make me clean a toilet."
A bolt of scarlet rushed along his features and he hardly resisted the urge to clamp his hands over his beak.

Seeing the look on the Sparrow’s face he turned around in time to see that Pascha was making his hasty escape behind the tree. If the owl could move that fast he was sure the lad was fine.
“Do not worry about him. If he could move that fast to get away he is perfectly fine. Teaches him for sleeping up in the tree like that.” He gave another glace towards the bird, “Pascha, don ‘cha dare run away, you either come back out here or you stay there.”
He knew the male was nervous around other people, especially strangers but if he ever wanted to get things done in this life he was going to have to work on facing others.
“You want a job here? I believe that can be arranged. Tell me, is there anything that does interest you or suit your abilities, the toilets aside.” He was not about to hire someone to clean the toilets, silly bird.

Pascha had nearly made up his mind to run away and deal with the consequences later, but as soon as he got up, his feathers rustling in the wind, Aderlass spoke and commanded him to stay the crap where he was.
Damnit.
Damnit all to hell.
Damnit all to hell with a bloody freaking fork, that's what Pascha said! Except he didn't, because that would be highly embarrassing, what with a bird on the other side of the tre--toilets? What was this, now? Mildly intruiged he started listening to the conversation, but hadn't caught enough of it, so it still made no sense. Why was this attractive (wait, what?) bird talking to Aderlass about toilets?
Toilets. Hmm.. toilets made good pranks.. Still! Pascha sat back down at the base of the tree with an audible sigh (he purposefully did it loud enough for the mouse to catch it, to indicate his DISLIKE of having to stay) and grumbled mentally about stupid pretty (gaaah) strangers interrupting his lovely nap and making him fall out of the stupid tree and then having to hide behind the stupid tree and--
--and now he was rambling to himself, great. Just when he thought he couldn't get any more nuts.

Malchiah began to settle somewhat, the exchange, or lack thereof between the two other clubs amusing. Well thank goodness he hadn't accidentally killed someone, that would have sucked. He finally spoke to Aderlass somewhat more calmly, though his eyes kept flitting back to where the little owl was hiding.
"o. . Okay. Well I'm good with people." He winced a bit, realizing that this first interaction probably proved anything but. "I like socializing and helping and, anything but . . toilets."
Malchiah smiled meekly. He had managed to shirk house duties his whole life, he wasn't going to start now. "I could be a good server. Or, um. . personal assistant? Or escort. . I uh mean." Ah yes Malc, way to go and make yourself sound like a hooker. The lakelander had meant a greeter or host to people new to the palace. But of course, he didn't really mind the other meaning either.
He blinked rapidly before smiling meekly at the Queen ahead of him, eyes darting back to the owl.

He continued to eye the Sparrow. The lad seemed a little flustered.
Ignoring the fact that the owl had stayed behind he kept his attention on the Sparrow. “Well Malchiah, why do you not take a seat? I will not burn you I promise.” He figured it might help to calm the avian down some.
“I suppose we could give you a job here.” He liked the fact that the Sparrow seemed to have thrown his owl off of his game. It was refreshing to see someone who could affect the lad in such a way.
“Good with people, hm?” He pondered that for a moment. “You could have the Owl’s job if you wanted” he said matter of fact manner, hoping that it would bring Pascha out of his hiding place.
Pascha had mentioned something in a previous conversation the two had had that Pascha was considering becoming one of the Court’s Jacks. If that was true then he would need someone to help replace him. This lad seemed like someone who would be able to help.
