She had been with the man for a long time now, but he could still make her blush. The touch was small, but extremely comforting, and she grinned down at Asha, pulling her close to nuzzle the little girl gently. At the sudden proximity to Theofilus, Asha squealed and reached out to cling to him, nosing at his neck and face until he paid even the slightest bit of attention to her.
Theofilus's words came as a surprise, and Calia blinked. He had given her a small overview, but she honestly had no idea about the magnitude of the events that had occured. All she really knew was that it was bad. "You told me a little... That it was awful and that you hated it.[/b]" she smiled weakly, leaning against him to offer her support. "What happened to the two of you, Theofilus?[/b]" her voice went soft, and Asha abruptly fell silent. It was as if the little skunk could sense the anxiety.

He tickled Asha under the chin as he spoke. It would at least make him feel a bit less distressed over the whole situation. "Well, I must have told you about the crazy man that I was paired with? The one who couldn't decided if he wanted to eat me or wanted to rape me? I had to deal with that the whole time I was there."
Which seemed like ages. He had hated every second he had spent in the Lowlands. Honestly, at times he expected to die, but without it he probably wouldn't have found his human form so quickly. Stupid Feline. As much as Theofilus hated him, he had helped him. "Eilwyn's mother..." Theofilus began but found himself unable to finish the sentence. Why was he having such a hard time telling the truth? Was he afraid of what might happen to Eilwyn if he ever spoke what really happened out loud?
"Ultimately she was killed by the Queen of Hearts. Indirectly or directly I'm not sure, but... you see why I'm afraid Eilwyn will never recover? If I even tell him that...." The sparrow sighed and looked to Calia. "Please tell me I'm just paranoid."

Asha was completely oblivious to the magnitude of the sparrow's words, moving into the affectionate gesure happily. She gummed at his fingers when she could get them, shakey little legs struggling to hold those fingers in place. She liked this person. His fingers were absolutely perfect for chewing! Between all of the slobbering, she even nuzzled his hand a few times.
Calia covered her beak with her hands, eyes closing with the shared pain that she was beginning to feel. She reached out to him, clutching the hand that Asha wasn't delightedly playing with tightly. The idea of someone... hurting him like that... Even trying to! The pain ripped through her heart, and it took some time before she was able to respond, just letting the information that he was giving her fully soak in. She finally was able to understand why he had been so quiet when it came to the subject of the Lowlands. Between Eilwyn and this it was no surprise.
"You've done so much for the boy, Theofilus. He seems to at least be fitting in well with the family.[/b]" she remarked, nuzzling his neck. "You saved him from that... that hellhole.[/b]" she just didn't know what else to call it, for all indications told her that was what it was. There was one aspect of his story that wasn't sitting well with her, however, and her stomach churned with anxiety at even asking him about it. At the same time, she felt that she needed to know everything.
"But... I-I don't understand. Why did the Queen of Hearts want her dead so badly that he would send you and some crazy man to the Lowlands?[/b]" she swallowed hard. "If you can't tell me... I understand.[/b]"

"I don't think I can tell you the whole truth as far as the whole mess is concerned. However, she was a Highlander and she betrayed The Queen of Hearts. Apparently her betrayal was enough to make him as for help." Theofilus sighed. At least Asha couldn't understand what was wrong with the situation now. She was too adorable to feel the pain and suffering that had taken and was taking place.
"Thankfully, as far as everything is concerned Eilwyn has no doubt that I'm his father. I imagine this is going to help things, even if it's only a little. He's never had anyone besides his mother." The sparrow closed his eyes briefly holding back another sigh that was threatening to surface. "Thank heavens for family. Without everyone I imagine Eilwyn and I would both be in trouble. Thank you, Calia. And thank you little Asha." The sparrow tickled Asha under the chin with his hand that wasn't being sucked on. At least she was an adorable little girl.

A gentle tapping at the door was interrupted by a familiar, feminine voice calling, "Congratulations!" Almost immediately afterwards, the door swung open and a pile of packages and things inched carefully through the door. Somewhere behind the boxes, baskets, books, and flowers a Sorgaire Range skunk was hidden, though her tone was infused with an almost unfamiliar glee and joy. She shuffled back and forth a few times before she spied a table, and the skunk quickly scurried over to drop off her myriad of deliveries. She beamed almost uncharacteristically when she spotted the man and woman there, and didn't hesitate to hurry to Theofilus' side to stare proudly at her baby. She was a mothe-- a fathe-- a parent for the first time! "Absolutely gorgeous~!" the words escaped in a gasp of breathless delight. "Oh, Calia, I never dreamed!" she sent the other woman a look filled with sheer joy. "Have you named her? How are you doing? Theofilus, you left your flowers at the office; Rogers found them and sent them along. He said he'd bring the boys later. Calia, are you hungry? The diner sent an absolutely packed basket in congratulations; wait, should you even eat that? I got some books from the library about babies and mothers, but I didn't have time to look through them. The librarians sent some flowers, too. May I hold her?" Pale blue eyes went hopefully to Calia's face for a moment before returning to the beautiful hybrid regioned baby. She was so adorable! So perfect! One hand reached out to gently caress the mixed toned fur as she stared down at the baby.

Calia nodded as Theofilus spoke, letting the issue drop. It was really all that she needed to know, and only helped her in her resolution to make sure Eilwyn was well cared-for in her home. She pulled him close once more, simply holding him close. It was all anyone needed sometimes: a little physical comfort. "He seems to be getting along well with the other children, especially Zane. I've seen him and Mori playing from time to time, as well. I think she likes having someone to spend time with.[/b]" she grinned slightly, looking up into his eyes. "This family has saved us all, in a way. I don't know what I'd do without it. And now we have Asha.[/b]" this was said with a warm smile pointed towards the little bundle in her arms.
A knock on the door broke her from her thoughts, and a wide smile crossed her face as Kelasia entered. The joy in her tone was intoxicating, and Calia was able for a moment to forget the fears she had surrounding their girl. "Congratulations to you too, Dad.[/b]" this was said with more than a small grin. Sight of the blue skunk completely reaffirmed how much Asha took after both of them, and she felt the same kind of pride that she did whenever she looked at Zane. Her gaze fell back to the infant, her smile still warm. "Isn't she...?[/b]" her fingers ran from the little girl's head and down her back, and the little skunk trilled with delight. "She has your stripe.[/b]"
Oh, wow. The happiness was completely new, but the kind of effort that she had put into this was typical Kel. Calia couldn't help but feel glad, as it meant that she would have all the help she could possibly need raising their daughter. She chuckled as she looked from the pile of things, to Kel, to Theofilus, and back to Asha. "We'll go through it all together later. Thank you ever so much for bringing it to me.[/b]" she reached out, touching the other woman's shoulder softly. There was a nagging anxiety as Kel made her request, but Calia stifled it. "I've named her Asha. It means... it means hope.[/b]"
As she handed the skunk their little girl, Calia inhaled deeply. Asha's eyes flickered open, completely unseeing, as she was hefted by her... father? and she instinctively clung tight, making an assortment of happy burbles and squeals. She knew who this person was, she was sure of it, and she wanted them to know how happy she was. Nuzzling against Kelasia, the blanket fell away to the point that her marking became clear, and Calia swallowed.
"She's perfect.[/b]"
She meant the words, and that meaning echoed clearly in her tone and the hopeful gaze in her eyes.

That was a pleasant surprise. Pleasant enough to make Theofilus watch with mild amusement as Kelasia pushed in the packages. He had never seen her this happy or this excited. He supposed this is what fatherhood (if that was the right term) generally did. "Thank you for bringing the flowers," Theofilus said with a smile.
"And congratulations, you have bouncing baby girl," Theofilus said as he shifted off the bed. Talk about Eilwyn and depressing things could wait for another day. The good thing about Kelasia was that she didn't seem to be particularly picky about rank. Hopefully she wouldn't react negatively to Asha's rank.
Judging from her state of absolute joy she may not notice. Theofilus remained quiet as he waited for Kelasia's reaction. He certainly didn't want to say anything that would ruin the mood. They were on metaphorical thin ice that could crack or shatter with a single movement.

"And your adorable colouring," the skunk countered easily, still beaming at the others. "Asha is the perfect name for her." A pale finger touched the deep blue nose and Kel gave a delight laugh at the baby's pleased responses to those around her.
The little baby didn't seem to be tracking her movements so well with wide, pale eyes that were almost reminescent of her own. Almost... But little Asha seemed to be catching on to the world with movements and wiggling ears and when Kel's eyes brushed the little A and Spade on the cute little pink chest, all she could do was smile that her baby took after her mother in suit.
"Ash~a," she crooned wiggling her fingers gently at the baby's nose before cuddling her close so Asha could respond in kind if she so desired. "A~sha..." The woman made the name a game, calling her little girl over and over again with recognizable pride. "Who's the perfect little girl? Hrms? Theofilus agrees and he would know; he's a Queen." she mock-whispered to the girl, before sending Theo a quick, teasing glance and sending Calia a swift wink.
"We'll never be able to pry her away from Rogers. There was still laughter in her voice as she bounced and nuzzled little Asha in turns.

Calia smiles softly, a little blush spreading across her cheeks. She was internally beating herself up about all the worries she'd had before. Of course her family wouldn't shun this beautiful baby. They would all worry about her, that much was true - but as long as she was with them, she would have all the love anyone could ever ask for. The sparrow was sure that they could all see it in her: A sort of unconditional love for the world, and the idea of explaining things to her when she was old enough to understand broke Calia's heart all over again.
Asha beamed up at the elder skunk, giggling in tones of pure glee as Kel crooned and tickled, her little paws wiggling wildly to touch the fingers that she knew had to be close. As she felt herself being lifted closer, the skunk snuggled in close, paws touching all across Kel's face before settling on her nose, her grin widening. Calia laughed openly at the sight, glancing up at Theofilus and hoping that this would be what he needed to see to help lighten his mood. This was the joy that had taken at least some weight off of her heart.
"No kidding...[/b]" she chuckled. "I can't wait for the whole family to meet her.[/b]"

Unconditional love was an amazing thing. Amazing enough that Theofilus was quite cheerful as he watched the display of affection. This was the most adorable family possible. This happiness would hopefully last for as long as it could. He didn't want broken hearts again so soon.
He hadn't thought of Rogers reaction to a baby. Only positive, that was for sure, but how positive would it be? "I imagine Rogers is going to buy her baby clothes as soon as he figures out her measurements. I'm not sure if we should be happy about her being pampered to an outrageous degree or terrified." The sparrow snorted. Rogers would probably spoil her if he had the chance. Judging from the amount of gifts that Kelasia had brought, several were probably his.
"I'm going to check up on your food, Calia. I'll be right back. I suppose you have a bit to discuss, being happy parents and all." He said with a smile before making his way out of the room. He'd come back after he found where that nurse had run off to. What could be taking her so long?
(( OOC: <3 feel free to have him randomly reappear with a tray of food and such. I won't have him come back until one of you tells me to bring him back. ))
