(( They have stuff to discuss? Oo; *sera's got nothing* ))
"Don't forget all of the food the diner sent along as well," the Sorgaire Range woman reminded the man with a quick smile. "It seems half the Capital is treating Asha like she was theirs and they haven't even met her yet." The skunk was greatly amused by this and the idea that anyone might not be entirely and totally enraptured by the ball of pink and blue fluff never even occurred to her. Not that she would take kindly to any sort of insinuation that Asha wasn't absolutely perfect exactly as she was.
"I think Rogers was going to try to keep the boys back for awhile," Kelasia told Calia thoughtfully as Theofilus made his exit. The German Shepherd seemed adamant that the three adults have some time to get to know the new baby without the distraction of the other kids underfoot.

"They'll only love her more when they finally meet her,[/b]" Calia finally replied, voice a little soft. There was an added though to her statemen that went unspoken, but would eccho clearly through the room. Anyone who didn't love her as she was would not be welcomed anywhere NEAR the sparrow in the future. Nothing else would do. With her wide, pale eyes, Asha stared blankly up at Kelasia, crooning to herself as she continued pawing at the older skunk's face. As young as she was, she was already beaming.
"That's fine.[/b]" Calia nodded. "They'll all have more than enough time to meet her later today, assuming she stays awake for much longer.[/b]" the sparrow looked from the infant to the blue skunk, and there was something sad in her eyes. "Kel... Thank you.[/b]" Calia murmured, lightly resting one of her hands atop Kelasia's. "I was so scared. I was wrong to be scared, but... I couldn't help it.[/b]"

Kelasia continued to smile and coo at the baby as Asha seemed equally enamoured with those around her as they were with her. She really and truly was perfect. Kel just felt as though her heart was full and complete for the first time ever. It was a wonderful feeling.
She nodded in agreement to Calia's first statement; the boys, Rogers, everyone who met Asha were certain to fall in love with the little girl. She was too cheerful and happy for anyone to deny.
When the sparrow continued speaking, the skunk turned towards the other woman in surprise. "Scared?" the Sorgaire Range woman echoed curiously. "Why in the world would you be scared? Asha is absolutely perfect. Wait, did someone threaten her? You? Who?!" A fierce anger and possessiveness made its way into her gaze and she immediately made to call Theofilus back in. No one would mess with a Queen of Diamonds and she would be certain to back him up on it.

Asha glowed up at Kelasia, giggling as only an infant could at the affection that she was being shown. With this kind of love in her life, it could only be expected that she would grow to be one of the most loving, gentle cards that any of them would ever meet. That was Calia's hope, anyway. They would give her and Eilwyn everything they could give. A wide yawn broke the giggle, and the little skunk's eyes began to flutter slightly. It had been a long day, hadn't it? For all of them...
As suddenly as Kelasia's protective instinct showed itself, Calia stiffened, covering her face with her hands and sitting in silence. The action had, in a way, both relieved and frightened her. "The nurse... She.. she told me that she would take her away so that no one would know.[/b]" She looked back to the two skunks, tears springing to her eyes. She wasn't quite sure what to say, and laughed softly. "I've never been so angry in my life. I told her I never wanted her to come anywhere near our perfect baby again. But it made me... scared. For her. How many other people will feel the same?[/b]"

Kelasia cuddled the baby, instinctively rocking Asha and patting her very gently on the back and bottom. Her own tail was twitching in sudden and maddening agitation, though she didn't dare let that translate itself to their darling little Asha. Her eyes flashed fire and she dropped her voice, keeping it soft, though there was a throb of anger within it. "She'd better not come near our baby ever again or I will personally make certain she will never work again." She glanced at the other woman, dismayed that Calia still looked upset. "Does Theofilus know?" she asked softly, trying to even out her voice some even as further anger kept her fluffy tail twitching about. The -nerve- of that nurse!
Kel's mind abruptly leapt to Calia's question and away from her inner rage. She moved closer to the sparrow and carefully handed the sleepy baby to her mother. "Look at her, Calia," she said gently. "The only people who will reject her based on her eyes or rank don't deserve to know her at all. We will keep her safe and that's all that really matters."

Calia's expression became thoughtful. She had screamed at the woman, told her to get out... But had she told Theofilus about what, exactly, the woman had said? The night had been an emotional haze, one that had exhausted the sparrow.
Finally, she shood her head, a little slowly. "I didn't.[/b]" She admitted softly. In all of her fear about what Theofilus would say, she had forgotten her rage at the other woman. "I was so... So horrified. She called her a disgrace![/b]" the sparrow was trembling with even the memory at the woman's words. Her feathers lay flat across her body, pupils narrowing. When she looked back up at Kelasia, her eyes glimmered protectively. "If anyone dares speak that way to her again...[/b]"
She was almost... scary.
Calia carefully took the infant into her arms once more, running a gentle hand across her head and down her back. Kelasia was right, as always. And Calia was so, so very glad for it, glad to have the woman in her life. "She'll need all of us to take care of her. The world is full of that kind of person.[/b]" she looked up at the skunk again. "I hope we can give her the love she deserves.[/b]"

Kelasia bristled at Calia's words as well, wishing she'd been there to speak to the nurse as well, though wot exactly she would have said, the woman didn't even know. So her tail simply flicked in frustration unrealized and she comforted herself with the knowledge that she and Theofilus would simply be more vigilant and nip anymore silliness like that right in the bud. She wouldn't stand for it and neither would Theo.
She gave a low laugh, something rather out of character, at Calia's last words. "Who better to give her the needed love than us? We're large and diverse, but that's exactly part of why we're so perfect for wonderful little Asha. We'll protect her and love her because we can and we know how." She stepped behind the other woman and gently put her arms around the sparrow, careful to keep from jostling the baby. "We'll be good for her, just as she's good for us."

Calia was unable to look at the other woman in that moment, overwhelmed by emotions as she was. Instead, she gently stroked the head of the now-sleeping infant, her free hand wiping slightly at her eyes. As much as she wanted, wished, pleaded that it would not be so, she knew that her life and the life of baby Asha would be a difficult one. They would all have to be constant figures, and everything she learned they would have to teach her.
It would be a constant struggle, but it was one which Calia would welcome with open arms if it meant her - their - daughter could have the life she deserved.
She moved into the hug greatfully, eyes closing as she took solace in Kelasia's words. She was right, of course she was. "She's our hope.[/b]" the sparrow ecchoed, gently stroking the baby's head, smiling as she watched the little skunk sleep. She gave a great yawn, feeling warmer and safer than she had for quite some time, her exhaustion finally catching up with her. "Thank you, Kel... Perhaps Asha and I should get some sleep.[/b]" she smiled at the other woman, eyes soft.
((this seems like a pretty good time to end things... <3))

Kelasia smiled at the other woman, scooting over to gently caress the chubby cheek of their sleeping child. "I think that's an excellent idea," she replied softly. It was a relief to see that some of the tension had eased out of the other woman and now she was ready and able to rest. As for the skunk, she would certainly be finding Theofilus and discussing a sort of guard for the room to guarantee that the female sparrow would be free from negative influences.
"Sleep well, Calia, Asha. I'll see you both when you wake, all right?" The adult skunk leaned over to press a gentle kiss to the baby's forehead, thrilling again in the simple feel of her child's face, then she gave Calia a swift and equally gentle hug. "Let us know if there's anything we can get you; someone will be nearby at all times." With that, she gave a final wave and slipped from the room.
(( Sounds good to me... <33 ))
