Oh that was nice and awkward wasn't it? A family inherited job. Conway shifted uncomfortably. Anything he was supposed to inherit was long gone. Or at least it was currently being held by his Uncle. That thought was worse than his future vanishing. He was happy for the change of subject to research.
"Research? What kind of research?" Conway asked. It probably would be awkward for Javaid to answer him, but he had brought the subject up. The young Hisstor was curious. Javaid did seem like a sort of scholar, but what would he research in a place like this? Was it something that had to do with death? Well, he would find out wouldn't he?
Assuming Javaid answered truthfully. It's not like he had to. They barely knew each other and Conway was simply a guest. It was conversation to fill the awkward silences, wasn't it?

In times like these, the urge to get up and hide simply couldn't be stronger in Javaid. He was forced to confront how painfully awkward he was and all the while Conway stared at him. Through him? Javaid couldn't tell. He wasn't used to these situations.
He cleared his throat, fidgeted a bit and then shrugged his shoulders. He shouldn't care so much. Conway was just like everyone else, another stranger that would come and go and never come back again. This was predictable.
"Well, the details of it are...overly complex...but, in short, I'm studying the afterlife." He pressed his fingers together, biting his lip thoughtfully. His research was odd, it'd scare Conway away like it scared everyone else. He'd think the old Jackal was a kook...but his study was his life and the disapproval of others had yet to stop Javaid so far. "Mostly," he went on thoughtfully, "what makes them linger and how to affectively communicate with them."

"Oh," Conway said with a raised eyebrow. That wasn't what he expected at all. It could have been a lot worse, he was sure of that. It was a little creepy that someone would take their time to study that--did ghosts even exist? He never really thought about it.
He shrugged. "Besides research and taking care of the grounds I guess you don't have much else to do? You don't ever go out?" Conway really had no idea why he was asking these questions of a complete stranger. He was just too curious not to. When was the last time he was in his region and got to talk to someone from Hisstor who wasn't his sister?
Conway refrained from sighing as he looked at the man in front of him. Maybe he should stop asking question, Javaid seemed to be getting quite uncomfortable because of all of this. Sleep was tempting...he'd wait for a response before he did anything though.

For reaching 101 posts, you each receive the special April prize!
Glass Rose: This thin, delicate item is incredibly beautiful and intricate. It's stem has a thin spiral of smooth glass winding around it so that the owner can grasp it without being cut on the razor sharp glass thorns that line its length. This spiral can easily be removed however and the rose given to a non-suspecting SD. The thorns will cause a very strange thing to happen to the SD pricked by them and a curse shall befall. This rose can also be liquefied and drunk for a power, or used in a breeding. <3

Javaid was oddly relieved to be discussing his studies. Conway didn't seem so disturbed by it and he wasn't calling him crazy (even if he might be thinking it), so Javaid wasn't going to start worrying over what might possibly be unnecessary.
Er, or so he thought.
The jackal flushed briefly, dipping his head as he tried to think of how best to answer the wolf's question. "No, not unless I have to. Occasionally I go out when I need supplies or groceries, but typically I remain here." Leaving the temple unattended simply seemed wrong.
For all that the boy's questions made him slightly awkward, Javaid didn't entirely mind them. The curiosity was intriguing and the chance to indulge in conversation with someone was equally nice. He would just have to adjust to the...awkward qualities that conversation directed toward himself could hold.
"It's not that bad, really." He smiled slightly, settling back in his chair. "If I can keep myself busy, I don't really mind the loneliness."

Conway snickered. "If I had enough energy I would make a perverted comment, but... I think I'm going to sleep for now. Unless you want to talk to me a bit longer." He coughed slightly. At least it was going away faster than he anticipated. He didn't want to be stuck with a cough for a year and a half. He didn't want to repeat any childhood problems.
He didn't want for a response for the Jackal. He shifted to slip under the covers. It wasn't along before he fell asleep, not really aware that he had nodded off so quickly. He slept longer than all the other times, with a few coughs while he slept. Javaid probably could get a lot done while Conway managed to sleep as comfortably as possible.
When he woke up with a slightly sore throat he curled up under the covers. He didn't bother looking around the room, he figured that Javaid would be taking care of his research or something. Conway wheezed slightly as he covered his head with the blankets.

The jackal's features briefly flushed at the boy's comment but he slowly found himself smiling. "No, it's alright. You should rest."For a long moment he watched the boy rest before lifting out of the chair to once again attend to work and, thanks to Conway's more restful sleep, a bit of research. Notes and reading were easy enough to carry from the workroom adjacent to his bedroom and before long he'd set himself up on the grounds of the Necropolis and activated his King ability. On occasion, he was lucky enough to have his work come to him. Today was one of those days. Before long he'd allowed himself to get engulfed. Just watching, studying, taking notes. He'd use them for later when he didn't have to worry that his work might wake the young wolf asleep in his bed. Javaid was oblivious as to how much time had passed but, as the sun sank toward the horizon and shadows lept across the tombs and headstones, Ma'at abruptly brushed her body against his and crooned her soft concern. The Jackal blinked slightly and smiled sheepishly at his summon. He'd forgotten to eat, but this wasn't unusual for any scientist. "Hush, hush. I'm coming inside now. The boy's not awake, is he?" Ma'at gave an affirmative whistle that made Javaid cringe. "Not for long I hope?" Another 'yes' but this time of the more relieving sort. "Good, good. I'll bring down some dinner for the both of us then"The walk was brisk and before long he'd arrived in the kitchens and immediately set to preparing something for the both of them.

Was there a point of staying under the covers until someone arrived? He could try to stand on his own power. That would probably end with him falling flat on his face. It would probably be safer to do on all fours... hopefully he wouldn't trip over his own feet.
Shifting to his animal form he made sure that he had the proper number in place. Carefully he slipped out of the bed onto the floor. All right. He could stand on all fours, even if it was a bit wobbly, two legs shouldn't be that difficult. He wasn't that sick right?
He shifted to his human form, and wobbled for a moment. He was light headed and dizzy. He hadn't been eating that much had he? With a defeated grumble he flopped down on the bed, a little harder than he meant to. Conway yelped with surprise as he curled back into a ball with watery eyes. After so many years he still forgot about his spine every once in a while.

As Conway struggled to stand, Javaid had reached the kitchen upstairs and was in the process of tending to their breakfast. The yelp caused the jackal to jump ever so slightly, hesitating to continue cooking until everything sounded quiet again. He couldn't just up and leave the food or he'd risk burning not only dinner but possibly his kitchen as well. Whatever chaos was going on downstairs would simply have to wait until he had everything together.
Luckily, though, it wasn't all too much longer before the Jackal was able to arrive downstairs with his tray laden with dinner for two and a pot of tea. He wasn't sure how much the young wolf appreciated tea, but they would really have to let his health decide that.
"Good morning." He smiled a little although his head tilted to the side in concern. "I heard something down here, are you alright?"
As he spoke he set the tray on the bedside table and shifted a few things on the counter so that he'd have room to eat even after passing the tray -- and Conway's food -- over to the younger male.
"I hope you've got more of an appetite today. You'll be needing some solids sooner rather than later."
