Mnem shrugged. "She has the equipment I need. I keep telling her if she just lets me have a set to go about my business, I wouldn't need to intrude, but your mother is a bit dense about some things." She tossed Elyse a pair of goggles and a large white coat built for a small human, not a small animal. She would need to commission Iphis to make Elyse something proper at some point; it would have the added bonus of keeping her fruitiest child out of trouble for a while.
She donned her own coat and goggles, and hurried Elyse along. "Watch out for acid. And banders. And falling objects. Just keep your eyes open." She led the girl to the lab. "We're actually going to do a couple of fairly basic reactions to make amyl nitrite." Mnem did not actually much care for chemistry unless is was directly related to her plants. Organic. She set up the small working area, always keeping an eye out for lurking danger. "Now, watch closely. We'll end up very quickly with something that can counteract the cyanide."

Donning the coat she discovered that not only was it too big it was also not made for animal form. Engulfed in the lab cloak she waddled after Mnem trying to be careful not to trip on it – which did happen of which she was lucky to catch herself except for one that ended with a bruised knee.
Entering the lab she took everything in with wide eyes. So this is where her mother spent most of her hours? It was quite impressive. She had always expected the room to be grand . . . but this, this was definitely more then she would have expected.
Being very careful where she stepped, avoiding a bit of the floor that looked all together as if it would give out under the weight of someone she came to stand next to Mnem at one of the tables. Amyl nitrite? Well that sounded both interesting and odd.
“Wot will amyl nitrite do?” she asked, more curious now then before.

"We're going to form little capsules out of the finished product," said Mnem, handing Elyse a face mask and beginning the first stage of the process. "You'll be able to crush them under the nose, inhale them; they take effect with a quickness. It will counteract the cyanide in the system, convert it into something harmless that the body can easily dispose of."
One could also use it to get high, but she didn't need to point her niece in the direction of drug addiction. She might have waited until after Elyse spawned (at which point intoxicants were pretty much a necessity, she knew), but she also planned on telling her to never have children. Perhaps one of the brats in the house could live a relatively uncomplicated and happy and man-free and child-free life. And Elyse was the only one even close to normal.

Taking the face mask she added it to her ridiculous outfit that she already had gathering. Well they never said this was a profession with fashionable quality to it.
After placing the mask on, she suppose to help protect her from the fumes, she listened to what Mnem told her they were going to make. Well that definitely sounded like something that would be very interesting and useful . . . though hopefully not common. She watched as Mnem began to measure out various liquids as well as get out other different beakers as well as other items.
Becoming a healer and an herbalist sure did require a lot more work then one would assume. But it was going to be worth it in the end. She gave a mental nod. She would be able to protect and heal people and all sorts of those things. It really bothered her to see people in discomfort or pain, especially when she knew there was something she could do to help.

When they finished making the amyl nitrite, Mnem ran Elyse through a couple other antidotes that had to be synthesized in a lab. They needed to make the best of the time they had. She decided that part of Elyse's training would be performing the reactions again and again until they were second nature. She realized with a small internal sigh that she would need to teach her some basic organic chemistry, as well, and swiftly decided that that could be a lesson for another time. A very distant time.
After a few hours of work in the lab, Mnem began putting things away. Because she actually cleaned up her messes, unlike some felines she knew. "Okay, back downstairs. I think we're done for the day. We'll get back up here when we can to get you some more practice. If Minh catches us up here, you're the scapegoat, you realize."

((OCC: Months/Year Later))
The mouse was more then a little nervous as she headed towards the kitchen. After months of pretty much daily training she was nervous from the day having arrived. Today was the day that Mnem was going to test her skills and knowledge that she had been taught and thus it was the day to see if she was actually going to pass or fail in her training. It had her extremely worried.
Taking a few deep breaths, the mouse attempted to calm herself before she stepped inside the kitchen. She could do this! She had done well so far and through all the practice and study she had done she was sure to pass. After all it could not be all that difficult right?
“Alright, Mommy Mnem I am ready whenever you are to begin.” she said as she entered the kitchen to whatever it was that would greet her.

Mnem was sitting quite contentedly at the kitchen table, toying with a needle while Iphis had a slice of pie. The boy had been terribly excited at the prospect of helping Elyse complete her training; when Mnem had said that there might be something he could do to make himself useful for once in his life, he had seized the opportunity without even asking what his task would be.
"Just eat the pie," Mnem had told him sweetly but three minutes ago. "Elyse should be here in a moment. All you need to do is sit there."
And there she was. The girl had damn well better get this right. She jabbed the needle into Iphis's arm. The boy yelped and choked on pie, and began twitching, though whether that was from fear or the injection was unclear.
"Your final task is to figure out what that poison is and make the correct antidote. If you succeed, you can go out into the world secure in the knowledge that you know much of what you need to know about healing. You fail, well...Worst case scenario, Iphis dies, no more Iphis." She shrugged. "Hop to it."

“Hello Iphis wot are you . . .?” the rest of her question trailed off as Mnem proceeded to jab a needle into him. The canine soon fell from his chair, dropping his fork with a clatter, to curl up around his arm moaning.
Eyes wide she listened to Mnem explain the task that she had just set before her. She was kidding right? There was no way she would really? Shaking her head she realized that this indeed was Mnem and this was something that she had threatened to do and on many occasions had done worse, so this was not something that could just be shrugged off.
Stiffening her back she gave a firm nod of her head to show that she was going to do and was taking the task before her seriously. Rushing over to Iphis’ side she cooed to him for a few moments, “It is going to be alright. I will not let you be harmed,” as she began to search him externally for any tale-tell signs of what it might be.
“Iphis can you tell me how you feel?” she asked not seeing anything that would help identify the poision.

Iphis would have told her that he was feeling kind of awful, actually, he if were able to speak. His throat was extremely sore and closing up. His stomach was cramping miserably, and he felt like he was going to vomit. He wondered how someone vomited with their throat swollen shut. Probably the bile got all stopped up and made the neck explode.
Wretched itchy rash-bumps down his arms and over his neck, too, that he could barely muster up the attention and composure to claw at. When Elyse cured him, he was going to have a delicate conversation with Mommy about warning him before she injected him with deadly substances, and assuring him that he would be perfectly fine.
Because the running out of air thing was getting extremely worrisome.
"Mo--Mom--"
Mnem was looking down at her son without something remotely akin to concern. That was not...quite what she had expected to happen. She tapped at her own throat curiously. Oh, damn. She knew what was happening.
She sighed, and tapped the table expectantly. Elyse had less time than she had first anticipated. Mnem readied herself to leap out of the chair.

She became worried when Iphis was not able to respond to her question. Noticing that he was gasping for air she quickly ran her hands down his throat, discovering that it was slowly swelling. That was so not good.
As she surveyed his throat she discovered that there was a rash developing on his neck and arms. Quickly adding up the symptoms she compared them to the symptoms of all the things she knew.
“Mnem, is Iphis allergic to anything?” she asked, concern laced in her words. Not really waiting for a reply she rushed over to the cabinet that Mnem had where she kept all of her medical supplies.
Scrambling through the different jars she found the one she wanted. Preparing a syringe she rushed back to her brother. She made quick work of injecting him with epinephrine, which would contradict the reaction rather quickly; she waited kept a critical eye on his breathing prepared to act should the medication not work.
