There was an involuntary twitch of Ichigo's face when was asked the question. He wasn't home so he could answer truthfully. Most of his father's connections didn't reach this far. He could speak freely.
"As disrespectful as it is, I would rather have seen my Uncle kill my father than the other way around. My Uncle was cruel to people outside of the family, my father is cruel to everyone who gets in his way, family included." Ichigo stared at the fruit for a long while in silence. At least he knew his father wouldn't lay a hand on his mother and sister without horrible consequence. His parent's marriage was just another one of those connections to the political world. The mouse sighed as he looked back at the bat. "If I could kill him in an honorable fight I would. Even if he doesn't deserve it, I would never bring dishonor on the rest of my family because of my selfishness. It's bad enough that I can't find my cousin since my Uncle dishonored the family. But it's all just a bunch of dramatic bullshit that I don't pay much attention to anymore."
And that was the general reason why Ichigo didn't bleed himself as much as the next Mid-Ranger. Of course, admitting this to himself meant he had to bleed himself. It was a lovely cycle of self destruction wasn't it?
"I'm not as dramatic as many Mid-Rangers, but hey. I have my issues just like everyone else. You probably have a story or two to tell about how idiotic people were towards you." The mouse wanted to change the subject. He hoped this would at least change the light to something else.

Seth's eyes widened slightly, and he grinned inwardly. Finally, the mouse was showing some spunk! He was beginning to want to fall asleep, despite the other's presence. Untill that point, everything about the gray rodent was proving Seth's thoughts of the midrangers to be true: Completely, flawlessly polite, but so terribly boring that you would never spend too much time with one if you had a chance. All that talk about honor... Well. They agreed there. It was a bunch of dramatic bullshit.
"Well.[/b]" Seth finally said, still feeling quite pleased with himself. "I think I understand why you came here, Strawberry. Honestly, sounds like the world would appreciate it if he was gone.[/b]" the bat gave a short, almost harsh-sounding laugh.
He shrugged. Yeah, everyone did have issues. "If it makes you feel better, your issues are just as much someone else's as they are yours. Seems they all stem from you and yer old man.[/b]" he leaned back, draping his hears back across the bench. "Loads of stories, actually. But I doubt you'd be interested in hearing them.[/b]"
Truthfully, Seth didn't want to talk about his past. But if the mouse asked... Well. The bat would tell him.

The mouse rolled his eyes at the laugh. No kidding. Honestly. He finished his grape fruit as the bat continued to talk. Well, that was reassuring. It was almost like saying "life is a bitch but you don't want to hear about it."
Ichigo's tail curled around him. Did he want to hear about Seth's past? He seemed easy going enough. Not like Ichigo would go around telling anyone anything about this encounter beyond "If you need a good Assassin, there's this one named Seth." Ichigo had never had the pleasure of meeting someone form the Glacier either, and had only heard rumors. Those rumors weren't very useful in this situation were they?
"I don't know. People who think they're boring usually have crazy stories to tell. Its that or they're stark raving mad." Ichigo shrugged and chuckled. "But I'm not going to pressure anyone into anything if I'm not getting paid for it."

Life was a bitch.
And then you died. At least, that was the way he'd always learned it in the Glacier. Children were born optimistic, but when their siblings froze to death beside them, that optimisim was replaced with a cold sense of reality. Seth was no acception to this rule, and he watched his companion closely, as if judging him to try and get a sense of the mouse's true interest. He just wasn't sure of how much he should give away so soon, but there was something in the other Card's words that made him feel as though there was a part of him, at least, that wanted to hear.
Maybe it would do him some good to let it out.
All the same, he flicked his ears back slightly. "I killed my brother. Well, half-brother. Technically.[/b]" damn it, he was no good at this. Well, he'd see how well that statement went over, and see where things went from there. He had to admit, it really did feel good to say even that much. That bastard had really deserved it.
Well, maybe he didn't. But his bitch of a mother sure did.

"I bet... that was messy. Killing family, half or otherwise, just doesn't seem to go over well. Justified or not." Ichigo sighed. That's how it went with his father and his uncle. Funny how people had so many problems with family and someone ended up dead.
There was no point in judging Seth either. It would be a bit hypocritical to be shocked by such a thing. If you killed a single person their death effected someone somewhere. Oddly enough. It made the mouse wonder if any of the assassins he killed had family's to go back to. Whoops. So much for being politically correct.
"I somehow think your story is a bit more complicated than that," Ichigo snorted. Every killing story was more complicated than that. Seth obviously hadn't told many people about it. Or... he was just bad at telling people things. That was probably a more likely thing. Then again, Ichigo had no idea how it worked in other regions and places beyond his father's influence. Being free was nice, and just a tiny bit confusing for the sociability aspect. "Storytelling is a hard thing to do. No wonder people make jobs out of it."

Messy was one word for it. "Necessary" and "Kinda-Unfortunate-But-Really-Quite-Nice-Once-It-Was-Done" was another. Either way, the bat was willing to undertake that task if the reward seemed worthwhile, and in this case it had really been essential. "Messy... Yeah, I guess. The killing was less messy than the aftermath.[/b]" Seth laughed harshly, shaking his head.
He was figeting, he knew it. The whole situation was weird to him, here he was divulging rather private information to a mouse. A cutter mouse, at that! He gave a small nod to Ichigo's words, shuffling his wings uncomfortably.
"Y'see... through a chain of events completely outside of my control, my mother hated me.[/b]" he was being nice with that. What she felt for the bat went so far beyond hate that it was scary, even to other Solandrians. "My half-brother, however, was the apple of her eye. She loved him absolutely, and would always tell me the ways in which he was better than me. When he was younger, we got along well, but as soon as he got older and her words could go to his head... Well. Let's just say our relationship was strained at best. So I proved to my dear old mother that I was better than him. It was the only way I knew how.[/b]"
Seth had completely given up on flowery language, instead getting directly to the root of the story. Ichigo didn't need to have what it felt like, in perfect detail, to have your ears twisted back, a taloned foot crushing into your skull as your body slowly froze.
It would just be angsting, anyway.

Ichigo didn't quite know what to say to that. It sounded like Seth's brother deserved what he got. Of course saying that out loud might not be the best thing in the world. Ichigo wasn't sure about how people from the Glaciers took manners. He wasn't sure if manners really mattered at this point.
"Well. At least you got back at your mom," Ichigo found himself saying. "She sounds a lot like my dad, only, he didn't bother to care enough to compare my sister an I. He just dubbed us worthless every time we passed him by. Heh."
And one day Ichigo would respectfully dance on the bastard's grave. That was a long way off though. He still had a long way to go in the area of swordsmanship. He knew how to use one, yes, but it wasn't very easy to use one when you didn't have a proper set of hands.

This whole encounter was progressing in... very interesting ways. The mouse was proving himself with each word to be a much more fascinating companion than the bat had ever given him credit for, and he was starting to feel almost glad that the man had decided to ask for a seat on the bench as well. Who could have known that under such a meek little front the man had such a well-developed sense of right and wrong (the real sort of right and wrong, not the crap that they preached in the cities - martial justice was all there was in the Glaciers). He shifted in his seat slightly, one ear twitching as he gave Ichigo a bit more of his attention.
"Strawberry, what was that laugh?[/b]" he asked, expression one of feigned horror. He was grateful for the chance to steer the conversation away from his life once again. It wasn't nearly as interesting. "Was that... Oh, my, I don't even know... Could it have been approval? Or even, dare I say it...[/b]" he covered his mouth with his wings, both ears flattening backwards. Under the wings, his grin had only widened. "...Jealousy?[/b]"
He was sure he'd heard it in his voice. Surely. This was just to interesting to simply pass up!

Ichigo stopped himself from snorting, but his expression did a good job of explaining his amusement. "Of course I'm jealous of such a skilled craftsmen such as yourself. Killing is more than just that, it's an art form that I'm particularly bad at. Sure I can kill a person with my tail but... who can take a mouse named Strawberry seriously."
He shook his head. Probably shouldn't joke about such morbid things, but Ichigo wasn't one to listen to general rules of conformity. He bled himself sometimes, sure, but it was only when he really screwed up that he did so. He hadn't screwed up in a long time. And he wasn't planning on it for a long time.
"Every crime deserves a punishment, at least, that's what I was taught. Thanks to my father, punishment usually means death by ritualistic suicide or decapitation. As much as he deserves both of those things, he's too much of a pansy to do it." The mouse had no idea why he was talking, it just seemed appropriate. "Helping someone along isn't a sin. It's just helping someone along."
