Lani laughed and shook her head, hair flying around her face and sliding off of her fur, back where it belonged. "Nah, I didn't mean I was going to avoid the place, but thanks for the vote of confidence, Your Majesty. It's nice to know I'll always be able to hang around if I really need or want to. The whole family's here right now and all that. I just meant if I wanted to be somewhere else, nobody would be able to keep me here with their expectations, not even Uncle or Vio. Or Daddy, though I have a feeling he'd try pretty hard."
She wouldn't be quite so mouthy if she wasn't comfortable with her surroundings. The Court was her home and she wasn't pushing hard enough to be rude to the Queen. She had absolutely no reason to do that, much less a desire to. She was just being... herself, without worrying so much about censoring the brain-mouth connection.
"You trying to win the 'most politically correct answer' award or something?" she asked dryly when Xiven finished.

Inwardly, Rai had to agree with Lani's assessment of Xiven's answers, though he certainly didn't show it in word or deed. There didn't seem to be any of the girl behind the answers and so far he wasn't overly impressed with her. Given their little time together thus far, Rai would have leaned towards Lani in a leadership position.
Still, he was fairly certain that Xiven was nervous; that or she was sucking up and that would just tick him off. Mentally, he settled for nervous, though the idea was rather strange when one took into account that she was Peaches' daughter. Of course, none of his sons were like him, so perhaps it was perfectly natural. He hummed lightly under his breath for a moment.
He let his new idea rumble about in his head as he listened to Lani's response. He gave her another small smile, pleased with her self-confidence. "That is a wonderful thing to hear, Lani," he told her quietly.
Still, his mind was on Xiven. "I have a project for you," he suddenly announced to the pair. "You will start an organization."

How badly Xiven wanted to say "Fuck you" to Lani. However she was right in front of someone who may not appreciate cursing. "I'm sorry I'm not as confident as you verbally. Some of us can't come up with answers off the bloody cuff when we're nervous. You've had more practice than me anyway. So please stop being snarky at me, I didn't do anything to deserve it."
And... wait what?
She gave Shinrai a wide eyed look of surprise. For a few minutes she really couldn't find words. Working with Lani on anything just seemed like a terrible task. In fact, banging her head against the wall was probably more productive than working with Princess Egotistical.
"Why exactly do you want us to start an organization? And by "we" I'm assuming you want me to work along side Lani, Your Majesty?" She was doing her best to stay calm, but really she didn't come here to get homework, she came here to introduce herself.

Lani raised her eyebrows at Xiven's response. How to dignify that with a reply... "Now see, there we go! You're a lot more interesting when you get ticked off instead of nervous. Maybe you should practice being pissed and you'd be more fun. Anything's better than that meek little 'I'm a good girl, honest' thing."
She gave Rai a grin for his answer, honestly liking him already. He seemed like the quiet sort of guy but he was obviously paying attention to what they were saying. If there was one thing she loved more than anything, it was attention. "Really? An organization? In the palace or somewhere else? And what's it supposed to do? And why us? Your Majesty." The last bit was an almost-forgotten afterthought, her tail thumping slightly against the ground in interest. What was this he wanted them to do? How much time would it eat up, and would she actually enjoy it?

If either girl had any serious aspirations for a title in the Courts, especially one soon after they were grown-- and he was once a teenager sprouting into adulthood; he well remembered the days of overweening self-confidence to change the world-- they would have to start early proving their capability. Perhaps this task was even to help them develop those skills.
Despite any need he might have in the Court, he would never, -ever- place someone in a position he did not think they could do. It didn't matter how stressed he might be-- and he was-- or how little sleep he got-- there was still too much to do-- he would not do something so ingrained against his nature.
Here were two natural born Queens: they could -only- join the Court as a Queen and therefore would not have the time to develop their political, management, and social skills needed for the rather deadly Court of Hearts. He would not throw either girl to the wolves-- or Lowlanders as the case might be; there seemed to be a new round of hate directed at the Court of Hearts now that he was The Queen.
"I have a few ideas," he answered the wide-eyed stare and questions in his own order. "But I would much rather see wot the two of you can come up with."
He turned thoughtful eyes to Xiven and her accusatory tone. He pitched his voice lower, though it was unlikely Lani wouldn't still be able to hear him. "In this Court you have to work with people you dislike; even people you hate." Though that was hardly all, and he paused before continuing to decide how much further to answer the question. No, he would tell her no more and wait to see if she would figure it out herself over the next however long their organization went on.

A mysterious assignment from a more than mysterious person. Well that was fanflippingtastic wasn't it. Then he made the lovely little comment about working with people you hate. Well, she lived with Raj and Khzir and hadn't killed them yet, so she was good at the whole controlling her anger thing. Sort of. Eh.
She still replied to the man, her voice was lowered, but she honestly didn't care of Lani heard her or not. "I don't hate her, I never would. She's just frustrating sometimes, Your Majesty." And she wanted to slap Princess Egotistical upside the head once in a while. Of course she couldn't physically do that without getting caught on her bindings, so it was out of the question.
"So, we're to make an organization with nothing to go on?" Xiven asked before turning to look at Lani. "So, ultimately we can decide what we want, who the members can be, if we're to meet at certain times and places... and so forth?" That was a lot of planning, "Are you planning to watch us struggle through this or do you plan on giving us a target, Your Majesty?"

Lani tilted her head and thought for a minute. Start an organization with Xiven, given absolutely no guidelines or rewards or even really a reason to do it besides the Queen telling her to, and her not being a titled member of the Court? Uh... no.
"Sorry, Your Majesty," she said with a shake of her head. "If I was a titled Queen or something, I'd have to do whatever you assigned to me. But... I'm not. And like I said before, the 'being responsible' bit and doing all that work... I just came here to meet you and because Daddy said you wanted to talk to me. This was really just, like, a social visit or something." She shrugged. "If I wanted to be saddled with work, I'd go pester Uncle or Dymphna or something. Nice try at free labor, though."
She grinned and glanced sidelong at Xiven. "You can have fun with that, though. You play with an organization, I'll go party in the Capital, and I'm sure it'll equal out."

"HA!" Xiven said with a snort. This was an interesting little predicament wasn't it? Lani was very right. She didn't have to do a wit because she wasn't a titled Queen, and technically neither did Xiven. However she wanted to impress the man so she could get a title. Damn it all this was really stupid.
"As well as you party I don't think it could even out this," The feline turned to Shinrai. "Sir, in all honesty I do want to impress you. I do want to become one of your Queens when I grow older, Your Majesty. However, If you're planning to give me an assignment with absolutely no guidelines, I'm sorry I won't be able to complete it. Saying "make an organization" to one person is all well and good, but you can't expect the impossible from anyone, Your Majesty."
She took a deep breath. "If you plan on having me do work, I need guidelines, and you need to understand I'm "only" a sixteen year old girl who is still getting an education, Your Majesty."

Rai let a frown show at the girls' responses, a deep sense of disappointment filling him. He tilted his head at the girls as he thought about their answers. He was silent for a very long time, only that slight frown evident.
This was hardly some whim, though the idea had come rather suddenly. This was a test, and he was not pleased with the results. When he finally spoke it was in a slow, still thoughtful tone.
"You both, of course, have every right to refuse. If you choose to do so, then that's fine. Be aware that there are still ramifications." He turned to Lani, eyes dark. "This is hardly just an exercise in trying to get 'free labour', and for one who usually seems aware of so much, I'm surprised you would demote the task to something so demeaning."
When he turned to Xiven, however, there was a hint of disappointment in his eyes. Peaches' strange creativity evidently had not passed on. "You, Xiven, are also on the cusp of adulthood. At no point did I say this would be without any guidance; however, you were given an option to come up with your own organization. Now, however. . ." He let the thought trail off.
The stallion shook his head again, and rose slowly. "Thank you for the picnic, ladies. I look forward to the next time we may meet." He whistled to the banders and strolled back towards the Palace.
