Mephitisia was a rather long and definitely fun name. He played with it in his mind, rolling it around and tasting it as though it were a little ball of ice cream sitting on his tongue. She also, it seemed, had a true understanding of the World.
At her mention of a brother, however, Ira's ears swiveled towards her and purple eyes gave her a long, thoughtful glance. Wot a surprising thing to learn; Mephit appeared so entirely self-sufficient, it seemed she must have sprung into the world as was: fully grown and free from any silly thing such as 'family'.
"I've always known where I would go," he replied seriously, but he seemed equally bored of the topic as though since he knew and had thought about it, everyone else must be aware of his decision. "As for Mother... he pretends to exist in the Real World, but I doubt he shall survive for long without assistance. Mother," Ira said quietly and with obvious full belief. "Is rather weak."

This news was greatly interesting to Mephitisia.
The colt was proving decidedly worth her while. So she stepped a little closer, to a more casually conversational distance, but never once seemed to lower any of those towering walls around her. She could've laid her hand upon his head and still seemed a million miles away. It was just how she was was.
Without bothering to push his decision as to where he would go -- she would find out eventually, after all --, Mephitisia focused her attention upon his Mother. "Pretends, does he?" The doe arched a brow once more, thoughtfully now. "Do you intend to help him, then?"
That was an interesting concept to Mephitisia, to intend to assist either of her parents or even her siblings in anything, and she thought it might be the same for Ira but he was full of strange and unexpected things that kept the serpentine doe from making any snap judgments.

Despite Mephit's natural offstandishness, Ira wasn't bothered by the fact that she seemed so far above him. He didn't actually notice it; he and Eir were so very -different- from the rest of the world, it was only natural that people and things be so far from them. Actually, they were rather far from each other as well. The two cannibalistic boys were exceedingly solitary. Any of their other siblings, however, likely would have and so would the aforementioned Mother.
Ira turned to stare up at the taller woman, eyes going briefly flat and showing a hint of his inner predator. He might not have Mephit's lovely fangs, and he might only be a child, but there was still something lurking behind his pupilless eyes. "I will protect my Mother," he said softly, a low warning in his voice. It might not have been wise and, at this point, Mephit could easily trounce him, but the colt obviously felt some sort of tie to his parent despite his low estimate of the man's abilities to protect himself.

Mephitisia stared into those flat orbs, intrigued by the hint of predator hidden with a colt's dark gaze. There was the cannibal in him, the man-eater. She almost wished to tempt and nurture it, if only to watch when she decided to release it upon his neighbor.
But with the force of that predator also came an odd protective sentimentality for his Mother. This unknown figure that lived in the Real World, as Ira had called it. She was curious to know how this man was, but asking seemed as it might cause unpleasant responses in the boy while he was in such a powerfully defensive state.
Familial bonds did not appeal to Mephitisia, but she was not going to be the one to tell Ira his decision was a bad one. If that was what he wanted, and with such derisive certainty, thens he would not contradict him there. "I know you will," she replied with that crisp, cold voice but there was a hint of approval there now as well. "And I will be the last to challenge that. Your mother ought to be proud to have such a firm guardian."

Appeased, for now, that Mephit wasn't trying to kill his Mommy, the colt immediately relaxed back into a sort of idle watcher. He seemed unaware of his own duality, or perhaps he just outright didn't care. Actually, the equine was very much amused and pleased by the doe's hint of approval, though he didn't sit and gloat about it. She didn't seem like the type to often approving of things, however, so he couldn't help a frisson of pleasure. He just wouldn't gloat. Much.
Mephit definitely knew the Real World, but the question was, was she a part of it? Sadly, Ira only knew some bits and pieces from watching the Court in action. He wondered if there was a way to simply test and see if she was part of the Real World or if she was just a rather lovely bit of fakery, but he had to think about how to ask in a suitably roundabout manner.
"Are you in the Real World?" Well, so much for roundabout.

Mephitisia could hear his approval and his opinion of her clearly and, were she anyone but herself, she would have smiled at the wiseness of this seemingly thoughtless colt. To be aware that her approval was rare and to be proud of this approval without gloating were both very acute things to recognize and act upon. She was also pleased by this, but she said nothing on it because he had said nothing on it and that was the way she wanted it to remain.
His 'roundabout' question caused her to smile, however, as she thought of the courts and her recent obtaining of power therein. It was good to be there and it had eased some of her paranoid anxiety in life. Not by much, mind you, but enough that she could take the time to spend the afternoon talking with a strange little colt.
"Yes. I am very much apart of the Real World."

It was a relief to find out that she was, indeed, a part of the Real World. The Real World would be lacking, he thought, if she was not a part of it. Someday... someday he too would be part of the Real World and that was going to be a glorious day.
Still, he replied with a quiet sort of, "Good."
His ears flicked up as there seemed to be a slight alceration in the streets. He watched thoughtfully as a canine and stag nearly came to blows over nothing more than a bump in the street. Most of the crowd ignored the fight and, finally, the canine's companions pulled him away from the larger deer. The stag picked up his fallen items and huffily continued on his way.
Ira watched this all with intense interest until the streets returned to normal and, even then, he continued to stare at the people as they walked up and down, rushing about their useless little lives.
"How did you move into the Real World?" Not that he didn't already have his own plan for how he should get there, but it was still good to keep in mind the other options available.

If only the little colt knew how appropriate his thoughts were. Mephitisia appreciated them and appreciated the little cannibal and was pleased to know he'd join her ranks one day. She approved of him already.
The scuffle in the street caused her to pause as well, and she watched as avidly as the strange boy did. She had to wonder if it made him hungry to see fools coming to such blows. Did he hope one might just die and leave themselves as an easy meal? Probably. The serpentine-done, leaned forward, watching everyone rush about until, at last, the colt spoke up again.
"I made acquaintances with the Dungeon Master and he showed me to the King so that I may take my Jack Quest." That was an easy enough answer and she did not intend to go into much detail. He would take his Jack Quest eventually and she would allow him to figure it out all on his own.

Dungeon Master? Odd and cannibal or not, he was still a boy and he found that very interesting indeed. Flicking about his silken tail thoughtfully, the colt was quiet as he thought about the implications of Dungeon Masters and Jack Quests. He might be interested in becoming a Dungeon Master. That'd be cool. Well, maybe. He wondered if it was actually a fun job. It sounded like it might be. Of course... he wasn't entirely ertain if munching on the people in the dungeons was allowed. Heh.
"Did you meet with Bernard?" Ira asked thoughtfully. His mother was still rather solitary from the others in the Court. But Ira just might know things about the Court that even Shinrai didn't; the little colt did enjoy wandering around the Palace. Well, he sneaked more than anything. He liked to pretend he was a spy, sometimes, but, generally, people simply avoided the strange little colt until he approached them first. At least he was becoming a favourite among the servants in the Palace.
