"Daddy and Mommy," Ira answered her second question a bit stiffly-- he ignored the pirate issue as though sensing Mephit had no real desire to discuss it. "Do NOT live together." There was, yet again, a sense of affront to the words, as though it would be absolutely insulting if his parents did live in the same household. Though, from the little that had been shared thus far about his family's dynamics, perhaps this was purely a survival thing. "Mommy tries not to just kill people out of hand, and Daddy's always looking for someone to throttle." Yepp, it was a survival issue!
"If we all lived together," Ira continued his musings thoughtfully. "I might now be an only child." Teal ears flicked back thoughtfully and he didn't seem entirely opposed to the idea. Just as quickly, however, it was as though he had forgotten the idea.
He shrugged at the doe's last question, "There's only thirteen of us."

Mephitisia spent her time talking to this boy in a perpetual state of 'be disturbed' or 'laugh out loud'. Or rather, some place in between. Her eyebrow was getting a good workout though, and it raised briefly in response to this.
So he lived in a 'broken home' so to speak, and there were thirteen of them? Well, of course, not just thirteen but 'only thirteen'. As if he felt this was a small number.
"If I had lived in a household with thirteen, I'd be an only child as well." Mephit sneered slightly, though it was far from directed at Ira. "I simply don't have the patience to deal with that many people. Especially not if they're like the majority of my siblings."
The serpentine doe had no problem admitting her severe distaste for the majority of her siblings. They were mind-numbingly obnoxious most of the time. Really, most people usually were.

"That's too bad," Ira replied thoughtfully. "Siblings are a great deal of fun." In his mind, the colt meant just that, but his mind had proven to be anything but traditional thus far. "Eir has figured out at least six different ways to kill someone, Hadyn can make somewhere upwards of twelves types of bombs, Elyse learned hundreds of types of poison," he paused suddenly as though his thoughts had twisted abruptly from the path of utter destruction. "Iphis is a seamstress." There was an undertone to his voice, as though this was either a major accomplishment or simply something so strange and unusual it absolutely had to be shared. Maybe he thought Iphis was the only seamstress in the world.
"Unfortunately," he continued as though he hadn't interrupted himself. "Daddy dear hasn't shown us much beyond that. Though Hadyn was really learning things on his own. . ."

Mephit couldn't help the small laugh that escaped her to the boy's response. Siblings were a great deal of fun. Alright, yes, he had something there. Not all her siblings were nearly as interesting as his appeared to be, though.
"Well, I would suppose you have something there, don't you?" The serpentine female snickered briefly. "I have a few...interesting...siblings. Severus is an accomplished potions master in the Real World," to use his terms, of course. "and Xylia is on her way to becoming a swords-woman." Little honorable brat.
Mephit wasn't sure what else she could say for her siblings. She didn't keep track of the others, really. Xylia and Severus were the only ones 'close' to her in any meaning of those words.
"Well, you do seem to have an interesting family. I can see why keeping them around would be worth your while."

Ira tilted his head when she laughed, but it was simply a movement of interest; not of insult or something else entirely. Who knew wot was going through that strange and unusual mind? Perhaps not even the boy. Nevertheless, the fact remained that the boy found his siblings useful. In a way.
Xylia. . . was that name familiar? His eras tilted back thoughtfully as he tried to recall, but he was more interested in this Severus character. A Potions Master? He was going to have to find this person-- he would assume the man was a deer-- and see if he could learn something.
"It's not worth my while to keep them around," Ira answered in an offhand manner, his thoughts still on the other Real World Character. "It's just not worth my while to kill them. Especially with the Rule in place." Couldn't forget the rule! It was far too important.

Mephitisia's lips quirked in a dark smile, though her brow lifted a little again at what appeared to be a hint of recognition. Did he know of her siblings then? And, if so, which one? Although she wished to pretend she had no heart, there was still a piece of her that was fond of the honorable little doe.
Ira mentioned nothing, however, and so Mephit let the briefly protective thought die.
Mephit's ears perked up a little at the mention of 'The Rule'. He didn't seem to be the rule-abiding type, and yet he spoke of this as if it were held a great deal of importance to him. "What is 'The Rule'?" The serpentine doe tilted her head a little as she pressed the question to him.
This boy's world was an odd one, full of even odder euphemisms and terms. There was simply no telling what this one could mean.

Ira glanced at her in surprise, as though the Rule should not only be completely and totally blatantly obvious, but that she should be living by it's boundaries even now without the colt having to say a single word. It was the Rule; it must be obeyed.
His voice held the awe and respect of one imparting a great truth to a fellow knowledge-seeker; his tone was reverent, soft. It caressed the words as though they were the name of a former lover, kindly remembered. There was no doubt that he fully expected her to embrace this rule, to take it into her own life, and let it gently wash through her actions and world as it had through his own.
"Never eat family."
And this, evidently was the foundation of all the rules in his life and every action fell under it. And then the little colt abruptly stood up and began to trot away, attention captured by something else. He was aiming for a market stall.

Mephit stared at Ira as that look of surprise crossed over his features, her brow slowly arching as she waited for him to speak. He did a good job of making The Rule seem like the most obvious thing in the world, and even Mephitisia found herself briefly contemplating which universal Rule an odd colt like Ira might take into such deep consideration.
None. Well, none that she could immediately think of.
When he finally uttered The Rule, Mephit was at a complete loss. He spoke those three words with such intimate reverence that the doe simply didn't know how to respond. Never eat family. Well damn.
Her head tilted a little to the side, the corner of her eye twitching even as the colt abruptly began to wander away. Oh... Well. Alright? Mephit simply shook her head and mentally brushed off her strange conversation with the even stranger colt. There would be time to speak with him again later, especially if he was as attached to the Real World as he claimed.
