He continued to watch her, ears standing at attention as he aloud her all the time in the world to answer, or say that she didn't wish to give him an answer. When she looked to the sea the muscles in his cheeks twitched, sending his whiskers forward inquisitively as his tail curled into a little loop behind him. He perked up a bit more when she spoke, surprised that she was actually giving him an explanation. It wasn't every day that you went around explaining your biggest .... problem to someone you'd only known for a few days after all.
He crept closer to her and paused briefly before gingerly placing his head upon her leg and peering up at her once more. He shifted his wings and curled his tail just so as to hide the rotting patches that he was terribly self conscious of as to not agitate her at all with his closeness ... he really didn't want to get shoved aside when he was trying to be comforting. He didn't say anything quite yet ... he would wait to see her reaction to his gesture of kindness.

It was easy to forget his problem... especially when she needed the closeness so much. Her parents wouldn't give her the comfort she needed. No, it was always for a price. Any time she let them close, they merely tried to press their ideals onto her. Once more, she let her gaze drift to the soothing ocean, letting her hand once more wander to the top of the rat's head to run her clawed fingers through the tuft of fur on top.
He said nothing, but then again there really wasn't anything to be said. They shared this silence for a while, with Zuberi taking comfort in his presence. It was kind of him, but then again she never doubted that he was a very kind creature. Just how would he survive in the harsh, evil world on his quest? That would be up to him, she supposed.
Finally, she spoke, though her far away stare never left the sea. "Thank you."

At her touch he relaxed a bit, realizing that she wasn't going to shove him off or anything like that. The feathered tip of his tail flicked idly every now and again as he shifted ever so slightly to be a touch more comfortable without being a distraction. Her word of thanks was rewarded with the soft grinding of teeth that was the vermin version of a purr as well as another soft head butt to her hand ... there really wasn't anything he could say, was there?
Well, he could just be more comforting, that seemed like a feasible option. Carefully he adjusted and unfurled the wing closest to her and tentatively embraced her with the feathered appendage. They may have been to large for him to effectively fly, but at least they were good for something, and the feathers were far softer then his own somewhat coarse fur was.... so perhaps a bit more comforting?

They sat there for quite a while, with Tavor's wing protecting her from the chill of the wind. She didn't want to move, so she didn't. It didn't seem like Tavor minded much. It wasn't long though before consciousness drifted from her and she went to sleep.
~~~~~~~ (3 days after the incident)
It was a gorgeous day outside. The weather was hot enough to warrant a jump in the ocean, but the sea was not so cold as to make one not wish to partake of it. In Zuberi's secret gulf it was especially calm, with the sun high enough in the sky to give them some sun but with enough trees around to provide shade if they became too warm. So there Zuberi was, waist deep in water with her typical dress shed from her body. Only her bangles and jewelry still donned her frame. She felt no embarrassment though; after all, she'd spent most of her life without even the most simple of adornments. On the shore though, was a slightly... resistant vermin hybrid.
"Oh come now.. this is why most people who are afflicted with your troubles come to the beach! True, the salt may sting at first, but they say it is soothing to the wounds." She grinned, leaning back to backstroke a few paces before standing up on the sandy floor again.
He stayed just like that and listened as her breathing shifted into the steady rhythm of sleep. He adjusted his wings ever so slightly, the folded one drooping lazily to the ground and the one presently blocking the wind merely relaxing and eventually curled his feather tipped tail into a 'c' around her, but resting it on the ground as well.Now that he was completely comfortable and relaxed he slipped into the land of dreams as well.
Reluctant was quite the understatement really, water was just ... not his thing at all. So there he stood at the edge of the water, ears halfway back and a rather wary look upon his face as he tested the water with his toes in a rather dainty manner. His cloak had also been removed, folded neatly and set upon a rock as not to get to dirty and ... well... not to be any extra weight to drown him. The only problem was was that he remembered what nearly drowning had been like and was terribly afraid to repeat the experience.
He ruffled his feathers a bit and moved a little bit away from the shore line ... just so the water would lap at him. If he'd been a canine he probably would have let out a pathetic little whine by now.
But I'll ... drown.
Zuberi let out a most exasperated sigh, throwing back her head as to seek council with a higher power. "Tavor... it's waist deep water. If you drown in that I don't see how you survive a bath"
Regardless of her frustration, she stepped back out of the water,putting her hands on his arm with a smile. "Come on now.. we'll start out slow. Lets just... sit in the shallows a while and enjoy the water yes? Afterwards we can lay out in the sun and dry our fur. That sounds nice, doesn't it?" She didn't force him though; her grasp on his arm loosened and she slipped away and back into the water, sitting down in the shallows and splashing the water a bit to try and entice the apprehensive rat."Come on in, the water's fine!"
At her movements, and sigh, his ears simply drooped all the more. water .... oh how he hated it, but at the same time he hated disappointing a friend. Well ... he wasn't entire;y sure the title went both ways but on his side he considered a certain squirrel to be just that. Even now as she was unknowingly guilting him into doing something he most definitely didn't' want to.
His tail swished about for a moment in thought before he edged himself closer to water once more. He paused briefly, wrinkling his nose the slightest bit before he put one foot slowly into the shallowest part. Slowly his whiskers came forward as did his other foot as he willed himself to move toward her. It really wasn't all that bad ... but he still wasn't to keen on the idea of getting his wings wet. He prevented this by unfurling them part way and angling them away from the waters surface to where just the tips managed to dip under. but she wanted him to sit with her to, didn't she?
Dark eyes shifted their gaze solely onto the water it's self before swallowing a bit harder then normal and curling his already soaked tail stiffly in apprehension. There was a slim chance that the place he chose to sit in would.. .shift or... something and he'd still drown, wasn't there? There was but ... it sounded silly even to him, so slowly, and stiffly, he sat next to her with the only the slightest bit of a cringe as he felt the water caressing his wings. Well, there certainly wasn't any turning back now, was there?
He turned his head just enough to peer at her and give her one of his little smiles. She was right, so far, this wasn't all that bad after all ....
"That wasn't so bad now, was it?" Zuberi's cheerful demeanor was unwavering, lifting her feet up out of the water to wiggle them comically. "I've played in these waters all my life, Tavor. This is where I would practice my diving with the other children of the village. I've become quite the hunter over the years."
She allowed a silence to go on for a little while, content to lean back and enjoy the cool salt water. She might not be able to get Tavor swimming in a single day, but she did well enough in her opinon just to get him in the water. Deciding to strike up a conversation, she decided to get a question out of her mind while she was thinking about it. "Do you have an oil gland like other bird cards do? I know some half breeds might not necessarily inherit them, but my father happened to inherit one.. His is at the base of his tail.. he'd groom his entire body with it to make him almost completely waterproof."
Not that bad? Well, no ... he wasn't drowning or anything but ... that didn't mean he was any more in love with water then he had been before. He had to admit though, when he calmed himself down a bit ... the gentle lapping of the cooler water against his body did feel good. He could deal with this, and maybe even appreciate it in the process.
No ... but .... swimming is a little different..... Hunter?
He cocked his head to the side curiously after she said that. What on earth was the connection between swimming and hunting? He really was out of the loop on all of this nature stuff... then again he'd lived in the Capitol and Corvistowne only, so it shouldn't be to surprising.
His ears perked back up at her question though, now that question he could answer.
I inherited more of the rat side of things so I don't, but eagles do. I suppose I could put some kind of oil on them myself but.... I'd probably forget.
At the last comment he gave her a somewhat goofy, almost ashamed look. Really when it came to personal grooming he simply kept himself and his lowland wounds clean ... but nothing else. It just .... wasn't that important really.
