[I swear to you, I came up with the title before realizing the irony of RPing with somebody named Kitty. xD This is me assuming where your character is in the city. PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong. xD EDIT: Finished due to loss of muse.] Heilyn didn't like not knowing her surroundings. She'd spent at least an hour of everyday she'd been in the city exploring the city. Until now she'd avoided the more slummy parts of town, but today she decided to explore. She knew the map of the city by heart, now it was time to cement it in her mind with reality. Besides, the residents of this part of town might be less inclined to -- a man with his girlfriend pulled out a silk handkerchief to cover his mouth as Heilyn passed very close by him -- gawk. She continued down the better known streets and continued to step down the social scale geographically. Finally she'd arrived. Wow, and she understood why this place was so very avoided. There was a much larger concentration of Lowlanders here than anywhere Heilyn has ever seen. She gracefully hopped some boxes onto a slightly cracked wall and walked on top of it with excellent balance. It was a wall surrounding the playground of a preschool. It obviously used to be something else (preschool play yards usually don't look like a prison, even in the skanky parts of town). Her tail gave a wag as she paused and looked at the kids. She actually liked kids a little. A few looked up at her in curiosity. One of the children accidently kicked a slightly flat ball a little to hard and too high and it soared over the fence roughly 3 feet away from Heilyn. Eh, I'll get it and be on my way, she thought, giving in to her soft spot. She jumped off the wall and headed towards the ball.

There might have been a higher concentration of Lowlanders and other riff raff here, but there was one rat who found life here a bit more agreeable then on the better half of town. Here he was on the 'upper crust' and got the respect he felt he deserved, for the most part. He was a bit of a rarity, and he knew it and loved every minute of it. He was a lowlander, yes, but the sickness hadn't touched him to badly, he was a Diamond and he'd also recently ascended to the rank of a Jack. He wasn't aware of ever hearing of a resident of his region reaching quite so high up into the food chain, but surely it had happened before and merely been a hushed thing. But this rat was, indeed, here... watching the children as well. He enjoyed children as well, on occasions, but probably not for the same reasons the coyote did. He smelt the girl before he really noticed her, and he didn't notice her until he watched the ball go up and over the gate and she stepped up to it. He watched her for a few moments before he jumped down from his vantage point, a wicked little grin on his face as he stepped closer, ignoring the rather odd, somewhat foul scent that clung to her form. You're not going to tease them at all? It's quite fun really. He was in one of those rare good moods this afternoon and was attempting to share a favored past time with the stranger. Her appearance didn't bother him much, and her scent wasn't THE most horrible thing he'd detected, so perhaps she'd be an interesting companion for the time being, he was getting sick of lowlanders. And a couple of the braver children approached the gate, peering out at the two who were hovering over their ball, attempting to woo them over but the innocent, pleading looks that only children can pull off correctly.

Ears went up as she realized a voice spoke to her. Her head snapped quickly to the sound. It was a rat. Lowlander.
Jack of Diamonds... here? Interesting.
She did not, however, like the look of the Lowlanders. The last thing she needed was to catch whatever they had. Her right ear twitched.
"I might," she answered from behind the mask, "were I in a more playful mood." She kicked the ball back over the fence, missing the first time, succeeding the second. Leaving the ball there was more of an invitation for this guy to talk to her, since it was the object of him approaching in the first place. The children laughed and chased after it again, only one or two of them shouting back 'Thank you, lady!' before running around with the other children. Her attention turned back to the rat. "You are...?" For the most part, Heilyn did not like being approached. This was one of those times. She came off a little cold and intimidating, exactly how she was feeling. She would just chase the rat away if it weren't for the fact she was here to learn about her surroundings.

With her remark, she squashed every chance of a pleasant meeting with the rat who had a notoriously sour temper. One corner of his mouth twitched once and his ears moved back a little further. He wasn't hurt by her apparent rejection, it just hit a nerve.... then again ... most things hit nerves with this ambitious Lowlander. And, she was emblazoned with the mark of a Heart, which struck another nerve, he truly did not like those of the other red suit.
However, as much as he'd love to just kick the canine square in the face and hear the children squeal in the background, he'd simply have to quell it for now. He'd learned how Hearts work from that damnable Serafino and needed to make sure she didn't have any 'friends' with her. This thought placed a wicked little grin upon his features which he deftly smoothed over by raising his charm levels. He wasn't naturally a charming fellow, but that was what this particular ability was for.
He didn't find her intimidating at all, then again that was coming from someone who didn't find anyone, not even the Queens, intimidating. Whether he was terribly brave, or terribly foolish was a debatable subject as well.
She was speaking to him? Very well, perhaps he'd be able to agitate her, like he'd done with a certain little deer. The corners of his maw twisted a little more, broadening that grin a bit more.
I am Osias, and you, my little shadow?

Shadow? That was a new one. It annoyed her a little to be called that. It seemed to imply (to her, anyway) that she was stalking him. Like there was something about him to take an interest in. Don't flatter yourself, Oozy, her lip curled and piercing amber eyes narrowing just a touch. The lip movement would've remained completely hidden by the mask, and the eyes were usually hidden by the glare of the glass. Which didn't really matter as she didn't care about his opinion. There were other people she could talk to.
"Heilyn," she replied flatly. He was grinning. Granted, he seemed very charming as he did it. Heilyn kept her distance, though. She simply sat there as she spoke. She didn't really want to, but... she was suddenly curious. Unaware that the magic he'd cast was starting to take a minor affect on her.
"Please tell me,if you don't mind my prying, that is," she spoke up again, "why are you here if you're a Jack?"

Why was he here if he was a Jack? Jack or not, he was a lowlander and others still scoffed at him and all those other nasty things, like spit, kick dirt... until they realized he was a Jack of Diamonds, his only saving grace, and he had taken a rather worrisome liking of giving disrespectful fools their dues... but he liked peace and quiet as well, and oddly enough, that's exactly what he got from this side of town. Crime happened all around him, but as long as it wasn't centered on him, he didn't care, let those fools kill each other, less of them in the end yes?
His expression never wavered, except for it took up a slightly amused undertone, and for nothing that she consciously did either, but for the simple fact that his little trick, a gift from his suit, seemed to be working rather well on the canine, and thus he added a bit more, slowly, still trying to keep her from noticing, especially as there were no physical signs of such a trick.
Simple really, I get left alone unless I wish to speak with someone. There is one other thing as well... it's far easier to keep up with the ... happenings ... of the Courts.
What he really meant was the things that the Queens tried desperately to hide from the world as many of the courts used those who congregated here for the lowest of jobs they often brought back spectacular tidbits for anyone willing to listen... and anyone who was intelligent enough to sift the truth from lies as well. He could care less about the frivolous gossip of the well to do, they tended to lie and embellish more any how.
However, the same could be asked of you, m'dear, not many Hearts travel these streets.

Simple really, I get left alone unless I wish to speak with someone.
Isn't that the case with the Jacks anyway? Decent power, but little responsibility? And surely there was a better way to keep up with the courts than to live in a place like... this. She looked around again, allowing a little bit of attention to drift away from the rat. She felt more comfortable around him than she did most and that... made her a little uncomfortable.
A Heart? Here? True. It has once again been confirmed that she didn't blend in anywhere.
"Curiosity," she answered simply, watching the children for a bit again, "I haven't yet seen everything in the city. It's amazing how much credit you Outsiders give suit." That last sentence just slipped out in a half mumble. She hadn't even realized she'd said it until a second after she did. Why did I say that? she wondered, growing a little uncomfortable, but doing what she does very well, and keeping her feeling hidden, I'm usually much more intentional about the things I say...

He picked up on her mumbled words and kept his expression, and tone light. He was rather enjoying himself and didn't often get to experiment with decent looking women, even if she didn't have an aroma, or personality to match.
That, m'dear, is simple as well. For Lowlanders it's a world of resentment unless you have a rather high rank, not even our Jacks, uncommon as they are, get respected as they should. But I have my eyes on the Queenship, and I shall attain it.
His curiosity won over again and he decided to delve a little deeper into her mild 'delirium' and, for once, not come off as the entirely self center vermin that he was.
Surely you have a goal in life as well?
And he waited for her response, intrigued, but readying himself for a negative reaction. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst, definitely words of wisdom.

The situation teetered between the two disagreeable cards being potentially disastrous or very amusing. Heilyn was still struggling mentally with herself. She wanted to trust him, but her normal state of mind was fighting back. Struggling for her to get away. She resolved she would stay and talk, but not let herself be invited anywhere. She was still unaware of the spell.
"Yes, I do have a goal in life." Well, she answered the question. She didn't really think much to elaborate on it. She gave a chuckle, turning her attention back to the vermin, ears most of the way up, head cocked just slightly. "Are you really going for Queenship?" she asked in amusement. "Now that would be something to see." Hell, it's not my court. "That might be difficult for you, if not outright perilous, with Queens killing each other left and right. But the conviction you have to your intentions isn't much of my concern." Regardless, Heilyn was highly amused to the point of her tail giving a twitch.

So, she didn't elaborate? Very well, he'd possibly poke back at that subject later for now there was one concern at hand, she found his goal amusing? Well, most did really, it only egged him on more. He was already controversial, why not be the ultimate case? However, amusement pulled at the corner of his lip, was she being a touch hypocritical here? His voice was laced with what he believed was enough humor to not be offensive to his current guinea pig.
You certainly put a lot of weight on region.
He was certain that was what she was getting at, he was a Lowlander, and therefor un fit to be Queen? He'd heard that before, but he got laughed at about it a lot less. There was a difference between a Six wanting to be a Queen and a Jack, although he had to admit he was still further away from his goal then he'd like to be.
I started out at a Lower Rank then you, and I've made it this far. I'm quite certain I can make it to the end.
And with that he crossed his arms, leaning up against one of the grimy walls of a rather dilapidated building, keeping those yellow green eyes focused on her and a brief curiosity flitted through his mind of what was beneath that mask fr really, the rest of her was quite appealing, but you never know, really.
(( Osias is being nice, I think he's sick.. .O.o ))
