Patience run dry with this, in one swift motion Heilyn sank her teeth into the man's throat, drawing blood, than violently twitching her head to snap his neck.
God, that felt good.
That, and she had to be watching Seth. This was his test, not her fun time. She looked up to watch him, catching the last half of that last exchange. She licked the blood off her teeth as he finished. Her tail wagged. She knew there was a reason for her potentially fatal attraction to him. Her eyes flicked to their nearly forgotten bags. No unseen accomplices had gone for them and the survivor of their attackers seemed to deem it wise not to irk them any further. She stalked over to them, keeping her eyes on Seth. She was actually quite impressed. He'd taken down a man in his bipedal form and an accomplice, walking away with little more than a scratched. Yes, he was helped, but it was minor.
She change course, following impulse, to go over to him, her gait resembling that of a predator stalking prey. She held eye contact the entire time until she rubbed up against him, marking him as hers with the scent of her fur. She nipped him on the scruff of his neck before growling softly to him.
"We should be heading out. There will be much worse if we are caught out on the road after dark." She walked past him to their bags, changing into her bipedal form. She picked up her bag and looked up at the overcast sky. It was getting progressively darker, but they weren't far from their destination by now.

Seth's jaws were locked on the man's neck as blood pumped from his open wound, his eyes still narrowed. He held there until the last traces of movement had faded from the man's spasming body, and then he had to work to get his jaws to release him. His fur was completely bristled, and his eyes glinted with a flame as she moved closer to him. In a way, it was almost terrifying to see him like this, some kind of feral creature.
Life in the Glaciers had given him a thirst for death that had gone unfufilled for far, far too long.
He made a gutteral growl as she rubbed up against him, nipping at her throat. "I see... Am I going to get something for all my efforts tonight?[/b]" the meaning in his words was made clear by the grin that was beginning to appear in stark contrast with his predatory stance.

The inn was a welcome sight. Seth was beginning to feel his wounds, and he was hungry and tired and horny as hell. He glanced back at Heilyn, raising an eyebrow before pushing the door open and stepping into the warmth.

Hell yes, you are, she thought, but said nothing, letting a suggestive shrug to the talking. There was something about that feral look... she had completely forgotten about any and all inhibitions she had had completely melted away in a shiver under the glare of those red eyes. How could this be anything other than a good idea?
~~
Heilyn walked in behind Seth into the inn. She carried her bag so that she could casually hold the strap and hide her rank at the same time. Her abdomen was a little sore, and she was sure Seth felt it worse. They got a room key and they went to sit. Heilyn very much desired to drag the willing bat to their room, but she needed food and she knew that they would probably want to sleep as soon as they were actually resting in a bed. She led him to a secluded booth where she began tending to the deep cut on his cheek until it stopped bleeding and was clean, but she really had no way to wrap it. She then rubbed a soothing salve on the joints of the wings the bat was walking on. The entire time she touched his as much and unnecessarily as possible. Cleaning the cut on his face lead to gentle but subtle touches on his face and neck. Applying the soothing lotion to his wings ended in her tracing a finger off the tip of the claw on said joint. This display didn't bother as the vast majority of the drunks and travelers were not paying attention to them at all, and the small handful that did raised their classes or gave a thumbs up to Seth. She didn't speak much, only watching Seth and her surroundings.
They'd finished their warm, filling meals rather quickly and headed to their room...

While Seth had originally thought that having such attention paid to him was a kind of a nuisance, at this point in time he appreciated it more than almost any other thing the inn had to offer them. While she tended to his wounds and aching joints, the bat was completely silent, his red eyes locked on her. The food was filling and the ale was cheap, but all of those light touches left him wanting something else.
His wounds would be forgotten that night.
---
The next morning, Seth stirred from sleep early, slinking out of bed as soon as he realized who was laying next to him. This trip was already proving to be an interesting one, and he flicked his ears back slightly. She was giving him positive signs, that was for sure... But he wasn't ready to have a serious conversation with her in regards to this. He found himself staring into the mirror for some time, reaching up and touching the wound on his face. Still hurt. Would probably scar, too. His brows furrowed.
Damn.
Still walking quietly, he slipped into the bed, nipping softly at Heilyn's ear. "Hey, Lyn. Wake up. Time to get out of here.[/b]" he said softly. He was more than a little anxious to get back on the road.

Heilyn stirred uncomfortably at the sudden lack of warmth next to her, but didn't fully wake until she got a nip on the ear. She flicked it out of teeth's way out of instinct and looked around to the source. The corners of her mouth curled into a lazy smile. She stretched, longing to stay, but at the same time wanting to get out on the road. The midway wasn't far from here and an earlier start was always better.
"Alright," she said, getting up and shaking herself after stretching. She'd reverted back into her animal form in her sleep. She shifted back into her bipedal form and looked at Seth, gently touching the cheek with the scar on it. It was much deeper than she remembered, but it was rather dark in the tavern after night had fallen. She would have to remember to keep it clean on the way. Though as soon as they got their ride, though, it would be easier. "You doing okay?"
They brought some bread as they left, and Heilyn, feeling particularly snarky, tested Seth's stealth by telling him to steal some cheese and an apple or two to go with their bread.
And they were back on the road, munching happily on a loaf of dark rye bread, some aged slightly sharp cheddar, and perfectly crisp red apples. Heilyn missed peasant food. After some time, Heilyn finally spoke up, curiosity getting the better of her.
"So, Seth, why did you leave the Glacier?"

Seth leaned in and nuzzled her neck softly, wincing as he brushed against his wound. It wasn't that bad, he was just trying to garner as much attention from it as he possibly could. "Yeah. Stings a bit, but it's not bad.[/b]" he remarked, reaching up and lightly touching the wound. Was probably going to scar, but honestly, he was pretty sure that it was going to look completely awesome. His things packed, he swung out of bed.
Seth went out of his way, nabbing several apples and a relatively large loaf of bread, crawling in on a rafter and back out again in that same method. The food was delicious, and Seth allowed himself to eat one of the apples in privacy before heading out to meet up with Heilyn once more. He licked his lips. Maybe he would slip another apple into his bag before giving her the rest of what he'd gotten... That was a damn fine apple.
And then they were on the road once more. Seth hummed to himself as they walked, feeling entirely too pleased with himself. His ear twitched at the question and he contemplated it as they walked.
"Most of it is my mother. I killed her pride and joy, then spent most of my time there avoiding her.[/b]" he laughed softly. He hoped that he never had to see those terrifying teeth again. "She had always sworn that she would never leave the Glacier, so it was my big chance to live without looking over my shoulder every day.[/b]"

Heilyn looked over at him, thoughtfully munching on a bite of cheese and apple. God, why did those two things taste some damned good together?
Her pride and joy... she remembered the conversation they had a few weeks back, "Your brother, right?" she said after through the food, the swallowed. "If it makes you uncomfortable, just tell me. It's completely up to you to answer or not... but why did you kill him? Siblings are obnoxious things, I know. I have a sister of my own*, but he must've done something pretty awful to cause you to do that.... What about your father? How did he take it?" she asked, oblivious.
She took another bite of food. Chewed, swallowed, and smirked. She turned to Seth and gave him a fake pout.
"So I assume this means I'll never meet your parents?" Dammit, the sun was starting to come out.

Seth returned the look, flattening his ears back as she ate and walked at the same time. The lack of hands was starting to be hugely irritating, he had found. There was a nagging thought in the back of his head that was demanding that he start about getting a bipedal form, if for no reason beyond walking on feet and eating with hands.
He shrugged, deciding that now just wasn't the time for jealousy. "Not like we have anything else to talk about.[/b]" Well, they did, but Seth didn't want to talk about that in the slightest. He coughed. This subject was one that he had grown used to talking about, but it was still somewhat awkward. "I wasn't a wanted child in the slightest. My brother was.[/b]" That was one way to talk about it. How did you say that you were the product of rape? "She said that if I could do anything better than him, maybe then I'd get some attention.[/b]"
He let out a short, harsh laugh. "I sure as hell got some attention, but it wasn't at all what I thought it would be.[/b]" He glanced at her. "Dad got his throat ripped out, mom wants the same of me... Nope, probably not.[/b]"

"Oh," she said, his answer putting a halt to her eating. She was... quite unsure whether or not she wanted to continue to pry.... she decided not to. They weren't close enough yet to her to be digging to deep. Judging from the tone of his voice and that short laugh, it seemed to be a bit of a touchy subject. She pulled out a small knife and cut out a slice of apple. She stabbed it with the knife and held it close (but not intrusively close) to Seth's mouth, offering him the piece.
Despite the anger she knew he carried from his past, she was glad it worked out that way. If not for that, he probably would have never left the Glacier and she never would have met him. She would just have to help him chase his demons away...
"So how's life outside the Glacier treating you so far? Well, save for the parts I already know about. Mucking about with us weak and unworthy non-Solandrians?" she changed the subjects, teasing him for his region's xenophobia.

Seth misinterpreted her abrupt silence as a sign that really, this wasn't something that she was interested in. He couldn't blame her. He wasn't very good at talking about it, so why should he expect others to be good at listening to it? Inwardly, he did feel sad. He had been quite hopeful that he would be able to fully unload those emotions onto her, but he shook his head.
It was just too soon.
Then there was an apple thrust into his face, and he gave her a small smile. It was almost as though she could read his mind. He ate it happily, careful not to cut himself on the blade of the knife. Those were amazing apples. If they passed through this area on the way home, he would be sure to find the grower and buy a dozen for himself.
Seth couldn't help but chuckle at the question, grinning at her. "I can't complain too badly. The fruit here is much better than it was in the Glaciers.[/b]" That was the understatement of the century. Seth just couldn't wait for summer to roll around with peaches, plums, and apricots. "I can deal with the weak and unworthy non-Solandrians as long as they keep supplying me with delicious fruit.[/b]" he gave her apple a meaningful stare.
