Rosemary grimaced. "No freaking kidding." The man was like a serial killer in his spare time or something. "Good acting by the way. May have been a little over done but these mages are all about pomp and circumstance."
She glanced at the pile of books. She half didn't want to touch the suckers. Bugger. She took deep breath to calm her pounding heart. There was something about the amount of death in this one pile of literature that made her uneasy.
Picking up one of the books carefully, she flipped through the page. It felt like the other one... on this was a little thicker. She didn't want to think about what that meant really. "Find a book related to mental torture or death and we'll take it and leave. That or we'll play with the other mages. I'm sure there's someone we can take advantage of here who won't snap our necks."

Rhiannon shivered very slightly, nodding at Rosemary's words. "I've never met people like this, but from everything I've heard they all like having their asses patted better than almost anything else.[/b]" she muttered somewhat dryly. Of course, who didn't like having their ass patted, especially if they had worked hard at whatever they did for a living?
A cruel smile spread across her muzzle as she considered their options. For whatever reason, Rhiannon didn't exactly feel comfortable with taking one of the terrifying mage's books. She would probably be cursed by the ghost of some other nutter if she did, and she really didn't need that weighing in on her.
"You know, I bet we could have fun messing with someone and get a place to stay tonight, all at once...[/b]" she said rather thoughtfully, the plan continuing to unfold in her mind. "We just need to find someone desperate enough to take us home tonight and weak enough that we won't have any trouble leaving us alone once he does.[/b]" She was all for camping out, but if there was any way for them to find a warm place to sleep, she would jump on it in an instant.

Dead people or a place to spend the night. "Yes, let's find a good old chap willing to take us home for the evening. First, however, I'm going to nab this." Rosemary slipped her snout under a small book about the size of a diary and flipped it onto her head in a rather amazing display of grace.
She quickly trotted over to the bipedal bird of pray. "Would you mind if I take this for a closer look. It seemed to have rather interesting information on memories that I'm interested in."
"Yes, I suppose you could have it though... you wouldn't happen to be related to a highland wolf would you?" He eyed Rosemary up and down. There was something about her and her specialty....
"No. Not like a Highlander would admit to being related to me anyway. Have a good evening sir, I hope we cross paths again." She said with a bow of her head before trotting back to Rhi. She slipped the book into a pack she had. A gift for her Aunt, maybe she would forgive her for earlier.
"So...." Rosemary said as she glanced around the room. "That pretty boy over there looks pretty desperate." She pointed to an Esterberry. Damn he looked familiar.

Rhiannon waited patiently for Rosemary to finish her transaction. It wouldn't be her choice, but hey! Whatever made her happy, right? She chuckled slightly at the lie. She did have a good point, what with everything she had learned about Highland Pride since she'd become an active part in the courts. A Highland grandmother... Rosemary's family sounded like it must have been far more interesting than she'd originally guessed, what with the Corvie side already taken into consideration.
"Well, he certainly does look like the sort we're after, doesn't he?[/b]" she said, seeming to size the man up. He had a very pathetic sort of expression on his face, didn't he? And he wasn't nearly as physically impressive as the terrifying bird had been. He looked just about perfect, in fact, for what they were planning, and Rhiannon was quick to approach him.
"Excuse me, sir,[/b]" she commented once she was next to him, giving him a friendly smile. "Do you have a second? My friend and I are in need of assistance, you see.[/b]" she glanced at Rosemary, wondering if she'd have anything to add for now.

Harold had found out about this place after a lot of research. It wasn't like he hung out with mages all that often, but he really wanted to find the answer to his problem. This was a little safer than some of the other methods he had found. Well, this was the least stressful. He nearly jumped when a girl randomly appeared to ask him for help. He glanced down at the scroll in his hands. It wasn't giving him answers in the first place so it couldn't hurt to ask her what she needed. "What exactly do you need help with, young Lady?" He asked with his best "court" voice as possible. Rosemary looked at him. There was no way it could be the same Esterberry from when she was younger. He hadn't changed in the slightest if it was. She shook her head. It must have been her imagination!

Ohohoho, indeed, this was looking good for them. Her tail wagged slightly, her smile friendly. He was a proper sort, wasn't he? His manners were top notch, Rhiannon felt rather certain that even her mother - who was known for being rather judgmental - would probably not have anything bad to say about the way he returned her greeting. Besides, a gentleman was far more likely to listen to a lady's plea for assistance. "My good sir, my friend and I are both visitors here, and we lack a place to stay for the night.[/b]" Her expression softened slightly, becoming almost sad. "Would you perhaps know of anywhere that we could stay...?[/b]"
Rhiannon was oblivious to Rosemary's surprise. She was far too focused on making a good impression with the handsome man. If she had been right in her judging him, he would likely offer his own bed up before he pointed them at another stifling Highland hotel... She could hope that was the case, anyway.

.... This was leading somewhere. Harold wasn't stupid and had the general feeling he was being hoodwinked. Though... he might as well try something different for once. "Well, I'm actually from out of town myself, but I'm staying at a local inn. I can't imagine they'd charge me extra if I let you share my room."
Actually with the way the innkeepers wife kept treating him, she would probably applaud him for picking up some young ladies. He mentally rolled his eyes.
"Thank you kind sir, we really appreciated your kindness. Though I have to wonder what your name is. Mine's Rose."
He raised an eyebrow. Was that the same Tulgey he met before? There weren't many of those running around. Either way she didn't seem to remember him. "Edward. It's a pleasure to meet the pair of you." He glanced at the other young woman and waited for her name before doing anything else.

That wasn't exactly what she was hoping for, but it would certainly do, especially if the man stayed here for a while. Rhiannon just wanted to get out of the creepy place, and she was beginning to feel the familiar threads of panic teasing at the back of her mind. She needed to sit down somewhere quiet, perhaps with a hot cup of tea, and tell someone what was going on. And she trusted Rosemary. Maybe that was foolish, but she really did. "That would be beyond amazing, sir, and I thank you for your kindness.[/b]" she said with a small smile.
Right, introductions. What had her made-up name been again? She struggled for a moment to remember it, just in case the other man happened to walk by. She didn't want to be explaining herself later on. "Rayna, and the pleasure is all mine.[/b]" she replied, giving the man a short but respectful bow.
Oh please, just let them get out of here soon.

Rosemary noticed that Rhi was starting to panic. Or something like that. Maybe it was time to skip out. "So... you wouldn't happen to be leaving anytime soon would you? My friend has a bit of a "condition" and it's a little odd taking medication in front of so many people." She gave a nervous laugh. Making things up on the spot was difficult sometimes.
Harold refrained from sighing. Of course he had found absolutely nothing out about his little problem, but it didn't seem he would find anything soon. He might as well leave with the girls... however frustrating it was. "No I was just about to head out. I've reached a rather frustrating brick wall." He said cheerfully before walking towards the stairs.
It was a ten minute walk to the Inn. Once they were there, they were greeted with a warm and friendly atmosphere. It was a completely different world. One that took Rosemary with surprise. She hadn't been in a nice place like this forever.
A rather happy highland woman scurried up to them. "'it down and have a drink!" she said cheerily. She had a rather elegant human form, even if she was older and filling out. Blonde curly hair, brightly colored eyes. She was quite the character as she ushered the three of them to a table. "I'll git ya some hot apple cider!"
Rosemary looked from Harold to Rhi as the woman hurried off. "Apparently she won't take no for an answer."

Rhiannon gave Rosemary a rather feeble smile. Oh, if only she knew how close to the truth her made-up situation really was. It would be laughable, if not for the panic that she could feel gripping her heart and the sensation that everyone in the room was watching her, talking about her, they knew, they knew everything, she had to GET OUT! She was still shaking ever so slightly when they finally left, nervously glancing around. Of course she had forgotten her medicine. Bringing it would have been far too easy.
Being out in the crisp night air helped her quite a lot more than she'd thought it would, however. The strange man was still there, but he was quiet and unimposing and didn't seem to be talking about her behind her back, at least for now. She would have to keep all of her eyes on that one, though... If she wasn't careful, he'd be likely to tell them all everything.
No. No, it was time to calm down. She had never seen this man before in her life, and there was no way he could know anything, let alone tell anyone. She took a deep and gulping breath of air, closing her eyes and shaking her head before giving them both a weak smile. "I'm alright. Just too many people at once, you know?[/b]" she attempted a laugh, but it sounded pathetic even to herself.
Being inside of the inn only helped to soothe her nerves further, and she accepted the seat gratefully. Before she could ask the bartender if it was the kind of cider filled to the brim with booze the woman had bustled off, and Rhiannon deflated softly. "It would seem not. I hope it's not the alcoholic kind, I... Can't have that anymore.[/b]" there was a bit of a sad note in her voice and she glanced over at Rosemary, expression hopeless. "I'd hate to be the one to shatter her good mood. She seemed pretty well set on getting it for us.[/b]"
