"So it did happen. That hurt like a son of a *&%$," El responded. He couldn't understand the looks he was getting from the two, concern from Rai and wariness from Ira. Well, he supposed he could understand the concern, and Rai better be concerned about a screaming and fainting Elias! Ira, though. "Ira, what's. . .wrong with my voice, it sounds like I'm. . .wearing a mask that I can't get off now." The details were falling back into place, and he was remembering it all. He reached up to grab the mask, trying to fit fingers or nails in to pry it off, but it wouldn't come, and he stopped trying.
The absurdity of the story, and the fact that it was true, hit Elias in his weakened mental state full in the face, and he started laughing. Between gusts of laughter, he pointed at Ira. "The guy with the veil was telling the truth! You had it pegged! I can't believe something that crazy happened!" He looked around, though he knew full well that what he was looking for wasn't in Rai's office. "Where's my rose? HAHA!" It might be natural to assume that the mask was making Elias giddy, though that was just his own cynical mind at work.

Ira was watching Elias with the same continued interest and wariness, though he didn't bother to answer the older man's question. El was a quick pup-- the kids he'd raised had all the proof of that they'd ever need-- and Ira knew very well that El would catch up on things very well. And the man did.
Ira did, however, finally answer when El went into his gales of laughter. "Well, of course he was telling the truth," the young man said easily. "Whoever said he wasn't?"
"That's enough, Ira," the Queen snapped suddenly. "Get out of my way."
"No," the King answered easily. "Not yet. Wot rose, El?"
More importantly, Rai thought sardonically, could El be trusted with much of anything just then? And what were they going to do about that hideous mask? He swore that if Ira had planned this, he would throttle his son.

“The rose. You know, the rose! The one with the glass. . .my room, it wouldn’t be here. It’s in my room, locked in the drawer. Come on, this will be fun!” Elias suddenly half-walked half ran down the hall to his room. He didn’t remember later if he passed any Cards in the hallway, but they would be in for a sight if he did.
“I thought you got one of these, Whip,” he said, digging for the key to the drawer. “Maybe I was thinking of someone else. I could very well be confused right now. Something to do with the tree stuck to my face. Never know, right?” He fumbled the key into the lock and pulled the drawer open. The rose sat inside, with a significant lack of ominous glowing. “Huh. I remember this looking more sinister when it showed up. Who brought this, anyway?” He didn’t give them much time to answer as he picked the rose up, but he had not yet broken the glass or pricked himself on a thorn.

Elias lurched from the room before they had a chance to argue.
"*#@$, Ira, he can't just go through the halls like that! Someone's going to call out the Guard." Rai barely had time to finish the words before Ira was shooting out the door himself.
Rai cursed under his breath as he quickly headed into the hallway and tried to figure out exactly how to hurry after his friend whilst not appearing as though anything were wrong. Oddly, people didn't seem to take too well to The Queen of Hearts running through the hallways as though something were horribly wrong.
So Ira was the only one present when El first reached his room, but Rai was there shortly thereafter. "I'm not sure wot you're talking about, El," the stallion said, quickly closing the door behind him. "But I think it might be wise for you to lay down for awhile."

“I was just laying down a minute ago, try to keep up please,” El responded without thinking about it much. His mouth was on autopilot as he contemplated the flower in his hand. He wasn’t sure why his mind had snapped to it after the mask affixed itself to his face. Maybe because it was another harmless looking item that stuck out in his mind. The glass now protecting his hand had caught his eye when the rose had first appeared. How had he gotten it? He really couldn’t remember. With a blank but curious expression on his face, hidden though it was by the mask, he pulled the rose from the glass that was now protecting his hands. Dropping the glass to his side, he grasped the rose by the stem gently, though he still managed to prick himself on a thorn. He winced slightly, looking at the small drop of blood mingle with the fur on his hand. “Huh,” he said. It was the calmest thing he’d said thus far since putting the mask on. It was almost detached.

Rai cursed loudly again, moving to his mentor's side with a flat glare. "You may be in some shock--" It would be more shocking if the man wasn't in shock from having a mask suddenly latch itself onto his face. "But that's hardly a reason to be stupid about your other stuff." Rai grabbed the other man's arm and quickly inspected the pinpricks. "You're fine, go lay down, El." If the man tried to argue, there was a good chance the Queen would do something a bit overly hostile.
It scared him that there was a mass of wood stuck to El's face and even more so that the canine had suddenly obsessed over that *#($ glass rose. Looking at this one, it looked rather familiar, but Rai wasn't entirely certain he was thinking of something he owned as well or if he was just thinking of El's.
Ira trotted over to El's other side to give further overt encouragement to his nanny to go lay down for a bit as well.

"Don't baby me," El said crossly, though he had every intention of lying down and sleeping for a while. He took his weapons and satchel off, and moved over to his modified bed. This would be more comfortable. . .he shifted to his animal form, hoping that the shift would cause the mask to come off. No such luck, but he was only disappointed, not surprised. "I'm serious," he said, stretching out. "I'll summon a tree on your *##," he said, not really knowing what he meant, but somehow knowing that he could. "A nap'll be nice. I really thought there was something to that rose. Weird. It seemed all ominous, like dun dun dun, but now I don't feel any different. Except for the mask, but you can hardly blame the rose for that. He stretched and walked in three tight circles on top of his bed before lying down. "Draw the curtains on your way out, please."

"Stop acting like one, Nanny love," the young stallion trotted over to drop a kiss on the canine's forehead as though he were a young child. "Sleep well!"
Rai gave another laughing roll of his eyes, at least some of his tension removed by his eldest's antics. That's probably why his son acted that way. Maybe. Sometimes he really just didn't know with that kid.
"Just rest for now, El," Rai reiterated, some of his harshness softening beneath his concern for the other man. "One of us will come check on you later, so just hang out here until we figure out wot to do."
And that was really a good question; what were they going to do about El's new affliction? Rai turned to Ira as they moved out of the room. "See if Iphis can make a deep hooded cloak that will fit Elias."
Ira dropped a deep bow, "As you command, my mater!" And then he spun and cantered off. Rai rolled his eyes again and head back for his study. This required some thought.

Elias mumbled something about fairies before dropping completely into sleep. He awoke with a crash. Literally. One second he was sound asleep, and the next he heard cracking and breaking glass, followed closely by his body thumping on the ground in a pile of glass. Who in the world did that?! He stood up, ready to swear and yell, but nobody was in there, and he was in his own room at the Court of Hearts. What in the - ? He stood up and shook the glass out of his fur. He had a few shallow cuts from landing in the stuff, but nothing too severe, thankfully. He shifted back to his 'taur form automatically, then realized something. He stood and spun around. Where in the blazes was his bed? There was a pile of glass where that should have been. "Who stole my bed?!" he bellowed. This was not funny, especially because he didn't do it to someone else. He had to give the person points for creativity, though. As he spun, he caught sight of himself in the mirror above his dresser. He'd forgotten about the mask. Did that have something to do with this? Was this a crazy dream? He ran to the dresser, leaning on it as he inspected himself in the mirror. It was still firmly in place. Weird. Still leaning on the dresser, he was surprised when it gave way with a crash. Were it not for his extra legs and lower torso counterbalancing him, he probably would have fallen into the wall. "What?!" He looked down again. His dresser had broken into a pile of glass. He was glad he didn't have any clothes to keep in the dresser. Wait. Glass? His dresser was wooden, and he was pretty sure it had been when he went to the mirror. "What's going on here?" he asked nobody in particular. Maybe Bernard would know. He went to the door, pulling it open, not paying attention at first. A faint crackling sound caught his attention with his hand still on the knob, however. The door was swiftly turning to glass before his eyes, radiating outward from the handle. He fought the urge to shriek, and instead tapped the door with a claw. It shattered and fell to the ground. This time he did shriek, a high pitched sound that was almost a bark. This was followed by a scream that was equal parts scared, angry, and crazy.

Hoofbeats clattered swiftly through the hall, and Ira burst suddenly into the room, a towel tossed over his neck. Lavender eyes skimmed the room swiftly and his ears aimed directly towards El before flicking backwards uneasily.
"Good morning, Elias. Wot'd you do to your furniture?" There was no missing that the bed and dresser were both gone and all that remained were shattered remains of glass. Odd.
Actually. Ira's head tossed up then left to right before he realized that the door was gone too. More glass. Ffffuuunn.
A guard came jogging up, worry in his gaze. "We heard screams, is everything okay?" In his eyes was the distinct desire to not be there. Screams were never entirely unusual in the Palace of Hearts, and even with Shinrai's rule, that hadn't exactly changed. Oftimes, Queen Rai's children were somehow at fault.
Ira sent the man a thoughtful glance then returned his attention to Elias.
