"I. Broke? It?" Elias would have answered smartly if he'd known what was going on, but being in the dark was deflating a lot of his hot air. Not that he had hot air, he thought to himself. "Honestly, I'm not sure," he added, plopping down. "If I figure it out, I'll tell you. It looks like I'm turning stuff to glass. I think you should get your father. Ah, Shinrai," he added, still not completely sure if Ira was confused or if it just amused him to call his father Mother and vice versa. "Get Whip. And, um, maybe Bernard if you can find him, and don't touch me," he said, sitting down on the floor. "I'm not sure what will happen." The guard stayed close, not sure what he should be doing at that time. Elias tried to ignore him. If he wanted to be a respected or feared presence in the Courts, he suspected this could possibly be a bad start. Maybe he could come up with a way to spin it. Of course, if he could never put clothes on or touch weapons, he'd be at a loss in a lot of fights, and he probably should walk around as a naked human if he ever attained that form. He noticed that his carpet was still carpet, though. Maybe it was just things he touched with his hands? He doubted it, but didn't experiment. All he needed to do was fall through however many floors and break his head open, and then turn anyone who tried to treat him into glass. He decided that would be a really stupid way to die, to have a relatively minor wound but to die anyway because anyone who touched him turned to glass. Rai would get a kick out of that one. He just sat and waited for the time being.

Ira shrugged and trotted off into the hallway, making sure he didn't have any glass clinging to him. El seemed snappish. It struck the young man as odd. Elias was usually so happy and easy-going. Maybe he'd gotten cut by all that glass.
The King walked right in on Rai's meeting with the traders from Corvistowne. The Queen carefully kept his expression blank as the stallion moved up to whisper in his ear. The Queen thought for a moment before turning to the Cards at the table.
"Unfortunately, a mild emergency just came up. Please wait here and Ira will reschedule this meeting to a more opportune time." He glanced towards his eldest son. "He's in his room?"
"Assuming the floor hasn't given out beneath him," Ira responded cheerily. Rai's stride lengthened as he headed out the door.
The teal stallion beamed at the Corvistowneians. "So! Would you prefer to wait for a later appointment today?"

Elias sat on the floor, pondering what might be happening. He was fairly certain it didn't have anything to do with the mask. After he had gotten over the blinding fiery pain running down his back, he had a mini-epiphany. He was pretty sure he had a handle on the mask. He wasn't positive, but he thought he knew about the side effects, or at least the power to summon the tree thing. He'd have to try that later. That would be an interesting combination, actually. A big giant fighting for him, smashing its way through a bunch of glass. He could get used to that. He saw a drop hit the floor. It was only significant because it was adding to a bit of a puddle. The source seemed to be the entire body of the guard that had stayed watching him, probably guarding him either from harm or from causing it. Maybe both. But the guard was sweating heavily, and seemed to be very pointedly looking at anything that wasn't Elias. "What's your problem?" he snapped. The poor guard just shook his head. He didn't even know what he was feeling, let alone why. He was just terrified, but as long as he wasn't staring at the canine, or that thing on his face, he seemed to be okay. Man, he didn't remember the Club being that scary before, but now the guard couldn't help but be terrified. "Oh, never mind," Elias growsed. He was getting broken glass in his fur, and even though it wasn't cutting him laying like this, it was annoying and uncomfortable. "Help me up, will you?" The guard hesitated, so El snapped again. "I'm old, freaked out, and tired. Just give me a hand up!" The guard flinched slightly and held out a hand to help the 'taur up. It happened quickly. As soon as Elias brushed the guard lightly, the same glass started radiating up his arm. The guard had enough time to get a horrified look on his face, but not enough time to scream. Elias groaned. This could be bad. He hoped Bernard would be able to come up with something if Rai couldn't.

The stallion was very careful to not run, but he definitely wasn't walking. A brief pause by Bernard's room proved that the Highlander was quite inconveniently not there. If it weren't for the fact that he was in a serious hurry, he would try to find the man or leave a message. No time, not if everything Ira had told him was true. His eldest wasn't exactly prone to lying, but the King wasn't necessarily the best at telling the truth in a clear manner.
Rai came upon El's door and wasn't pleased by the fact that the door was missing. "El, are you okay?"
The Queen stepped quickly inside, then retreated a step with a loud curse at the sight of a large, glass statue in the middle of El's room. His eyes narrowed suddenly. "Isn't that one of the guards?"

“*I’m* fine,” Elias said, before quickly adding “don’t touch me!” He didn’t want Rai to offer to help him up. He pulled himself to his feet, being careful not to touch anything. He pointed at the guard. “He’s probably not feeling too hot. I’m afraid to touch him again. So far anything I’ve touched a second time just shatters, and I don’t know if it’s me, or anyone.” He looked around, sort of hoping Bernard was around to shed some light on what was happening. He’d just have to deal for now and find out later. Was it going to be like this until he died? He’d read of a similar curse. Of course, that one was cast by a person and lifted when the subject of the curse learned humility. Would Elias end up with donkey ears?
“I don’t know what’s going on, Whip. I woke up to the lovely noise and sensation of my bed shattering beneath me. Then things got worse. The floor seems okay, which is good. I’m not sure how far I could fall if I couldn’t even walk.”

Rai gave a low sigh, though it was from a wide range of emotions. He was incredibly relieved that El was fine, but this incident would make it even harder for the Court of Hearts to get good guards in. Even as further frustration and worry was spreading their way through him, the stallion's mind was already beginning to work.
"Trust you to cause trouble even when you're sleeping," Rai said quietly even as he took another cautious step into the room. He avoided touching his friend, though it made him nervous and uneasy as well. His eyes strayed briefly to the guard and quickly looked away again. At least all the details were still on the man. He didn't want to have to explain that to the guard's family.
"Hoy, you don't want to make my life easy, do you, El?" The stallion shook his head. "It probably won't be too comfortable, but let's get you on a groundfloor just in case. I don't know, El, I think you're going to have to rough it for awhile; at least until we can figure out wot's going on. Bernard's out of his room, but I'll send someone for him as soon as we get you somewhere. . . less likely to shatter." He hoped.

“Ah, shut up, Whip,” El said amiably enough under the circumstances. He shifted back to his animal form. “Less of me to bump into stuff in this form,” he explained if anyone was wondering. “Best to go out the back way, don’t you think?” he asked. Several reasons for that, actually. First, though not highly embarrassing, it was still bad form to be a king in animal form in any court. It just gave the wrong signals, ie of weakness. That would hurt Rai’s credibility, being seen with someone like that. Who knows what sort of political messages one might take from that. And, of course, there was the problem of the mask, and scaring people, and people trying to ignore that and overcompensate by greeting or touching him. No, that wouldn’t do at all.
“I suppose someone should deliver the guard to his family?” He was a little concerned about that, but he wondered if it wouldn’t be better to turn a few more people to stone and claim it as an art exhibit, but that would be a little hard to pass off, he supposed.

Rai cautiously led the way out of the room; he didn't dare take a chance of having El touch him just now. What a way to go. Oy.
"We'll have Bernard take a look at him first," Rai answered wearily running fingers through his hair. Evidently he'd lost or forgotten his hat. "Maybe we can still save him. Somehow."
El had a good point about the back way, but Rai's subconscious mind was more along the lines of the people they were more likely to run into in the back ways weren't quite as important as the people in the front areas. With El in animal form, there was no loss of other items in the Palace to glass and the Queen finally decided on leading the canine out to a small shed partially hidden in the gardens. It was actually a gardener's shed, but Rai caught one and warned them away from the building for now.
Rai watched the feline retreat to warn the others and pulled the door open for Elias. "It's nicer than our first cabin at least."

"Hey, that was a nice cabin that I put together with my own two paws and mouth and. . .yeah, that place was a dump," El agreed. It kept him warm in the winter and dry in the rains, and that was about all he cared about. It was only when he adopted Rai that he decided something a little more comfortable would be in order. El was thinking about what might be causing all this. He was glad that his steps weren't turning the ground to glass, but he supposed that whatever curse he had didn't have the power to turn the entire earth to glass, which would be the logical conclusion, he supposed. "So, we're going with the rose causing this?" he said conversationally. "I'd like to know more about this. Assuming I don't starve to death or die of thirst, this could be something we can use. I'm just saying that being able to turn things and people to glass isn't too bad." He cautiously walked in a circle and laid down. "I look forward to seeing how this turns out. What do you think happens if I pee on something?" It wasn't quite clear if he'd lost it or was manic or what. Even he wasn't sure, which was a bad sign. "Yeah, Bernard should know about this."
