Peder grunted and hefted the stone behind him, dragging it on a thick tarp so as not to scratch the stone or the paved street beneath it. All around him were blooming plants and carefully tended shrubberies reminiscent of palace gardens, though not quite as splendid as all that. Short two-foot stone walls lined many of the paths around the garden and fountain area, made of the same type of stone that he currently dragged behind him. He and his brother had been called on to fix just such a wall. The gardens in the center of the capital were a common area and theoretically maintained by all four suits. City residents could come here to sit, relax, and enjoy a moment of relative peace. A large fountain dominated the center of the area and its cheery splashing made the Club smile around the corner of tarp in his mouth. This was one of his favorite places to come on his days off. If he couldn't go home then he could at least enjoy a bit of greenery. Other people apparently shared his sentiments, as the place was well-populated around noontime. His large, furry ears swiveled as the sounds coming from the fountain changed. He heard a lot more splashing and a strain of familiar laughter. With an amused roll of his eyes, he tugged the stone to his work area and left it there for the time being. Time to find that silly brother of his.

It was bright, crowded, and a little stifling with the added warmth of the bodies populating the area. However, this didn't really bother Syraelia much, she was used to certain... discomfort. Unlike most who came from Torquehelm, she had a rather pleasant outlook on life, it was hard to keep her down. All of the clouds which passed her by seemed to have a silver lining, or she just didn't care enough to bother checking. This would explain why she had even bothered to stop by and investigate the area. It was a bit of a refreshing change to see so many creatures just enjoying the day. She'd never really been one to care about night or day, the day was hot for one with her particular coat coloration, but the night could be so boring and empty. She was also considered to be a bit... spooky in appearance at night it appeared. During the day, practically no one bothered her about her bindings, not that she cared much; explaining them was easy enough. She'd heard worse things done for the sake of lifting a curse than a simple handcuffing. The only unfortunate part for her, was that she sometimes had a difficult time speaking. For one of the few social Torquehelm, it was a little bit funny that she should be one to have her muzzle bound. The bindings had just become an accepted part of her, it had only taken an extra year or so to learn how to speak considerably clearly despite them. Also, it did have a certain appeal, or so she'd noticed... Another Club wandered right on past her, obviously in the middle of work. Working on what? She couldn't see exactly what it was that was being built, and as her curiosity grabbed hold of her (as it too often did) she turned in place and sprinted after the sky blue male ahead. "Hello!" She managed to cheerfully purr out as she came up on his right side. Hopefully he would have time for a little chat, she'd hate to have to hunt down someone else after having this opportunity so nicely present itself.

Peder heard a somewhat muffled voice call out - to him? - and turned his head in surprise. He had only just dropped the tarp where it needed to be and taken a step or two away. Maybe he'd left it in someone's way without realizing it?
Thoughts of his brother flew from his mind as he got a good look at the female approaching him. Even without the bindings, her colors would have marked her clearly as a native of Torquehelm. The two of them were as different in appearance as night and day. His own pale, watery fur contrasted sharply with her dark, sleek look, right down to the difference between his fluffy raccoon tail and her cute little bob. She really was quite lovely with all that purple.
He looked for and found her marking. A Five of Clubs, very good. He allowed himself to relax somewhat and smile in a friendly manner, firmly telling himself not to gawk at the handcuffs or rope muzzle. People from all over lived in the city. Just because he wasn't quite used to such diversity in an area didn't mean he had to embarrass himself like a kitten.
"Good afternoon!" he offered in greeting, turning to face her fully. "Haven't seen you out and about these parts before. The name's Peder. What's yours?"

His eyes were polite, searching her form with the curiosity only of someone who hadn't met her before, and if he was a little shocked by the bindings he did a very good job of not showing it or staring at them. She was most pleased by this, though from simple facial expressions she could tell he liked what he saw despite her little... decorations.
Upon closer inspection she could see that he was a 7 of Clubs, and where she had short, sleek fur, his was very nice and velvety plush looking. Out of curiosity she normally would have touched it, just to see, but she knew enough about social situations to respect his personal space and restrain herself from the temptation. She had a thing for textures. He didn't seem to mind being interrupted in such a manner from whatever he was doing, and seemed like the friendly kind who might share some information, so with a smile and a slight polite dip of her head, she began to speak.
"Yes, it is, isn't it?" She allowed herself a small laugh, though it was a little more deep and rumbling than you would expect from most females. Being built like a panther, all muscle and power, tended to come with a more... smoky alto tone. "I normally wouldn't have stopped in, but it was just busy enough I figured I could walk around without too many stares." She winked at the little joke, a sign that she really didn't mind or care if he felt like taking a second glance or two. Most did eventually, trying to make it when she wasn't looking. She was very observant however. "Actually, I was wondering what the large rocks were for, construction somewhere?" She could be rather straight to the point when she wanted to, but this just happened to fall into the conversation.
"Syraelia, pleasure to meet you Peder." The 'r' rolled off her tongue in a deep purr, it was something she had mastered to make her speech seem a little more pleasant, to make up for certain consonants which were hard to pronounce without full mouth movement.

Peder was impressed with how well she spoke even with several loops of rope tying her muzzle mostly closed. That must've taken practice...good thing she had a long muzzle to begin with or she wouldn't have even that range of speech. He listened and smiled, liking the way she rolled some of her consonants around the binding and able to ignore the impeded sounds.
"I'm here on a repair job for some of these walls here," he answered, acknowledging her wink with a knowing grin. He very much got her meaning, but wouldn't oggle her shamelessly. A little light appreciation might not be out of the question, though. "Apparently two higher-ups had a duel here not too long ago and smashed through a part of it, so my brother and I were called in to do a little patching and make sure it didn't remain an eyesore."
The Club didn't have much respect for people who regarded public property as theirs by right of rank, though ironically they were the ones he most often had to give it to. There were a fair number of stone structures, monuments, and buildings dotting the city and, being a man who worked primarily with stone, he and his brother always had work somewhere or another. With all the nobles in the city, it was amazing the place wasn't more of a wreck. He supposed they had to keep things looking nice for appearance's sake.
"I was actually just on my way to the fountain in the center, if you'd care to join me? Need to make sure my brother hasn't gone and drowned himself in the shallow water."

How predictable, the higher up well-to-do apparently consumed by the belief that they own all they come across. It was silly and childish, but being a creature who had little to her name, Syraelia didn't even attempt to understand their strange ways. The pompous life seemed to be less than word of mouth had initially made her think, whatever perks they had didn't make up for the less than envious personalities...
"Ah, typical. From what I've head, anyhow. You seem like a particularily... capable male, I'm sure it'll be back to perfect in no time." She normally wasn't one for stroking egos, which would explain why she never bothered. No, this was just honesty, and personal opinion. His build was thick, she could tell, despite the layers of fur that made him appear more dainty and fragile than he was. She could only assume that his brother shared the same qualities.
"I would love to. Perhaps you could show me around after your work is done? That is, if you wanted to." It was a sly way of getting to his thoughts of her, but one she used often. She tried never to impose herself, making only suggestions and then leaving the decision ultimately in the hands of another party. Why waste her time on someone who didn't want her around, after all? At the comment about his brother, she couldn't help but chuckle. Such remarks she'd heard from other siblings many a time before, but it never got old.
"Unfortunately for you both, I do not know any methods of revival for drowning victims..." Her smirk was knowing and yet innocent. Of course he would get the little jest, and the implied meaning left room to see how he would interpret her words. It was fun to be the one with a 'dirty mind', but even moreso to appear innocent and accuse someone else of the same.

Pathos twirled about in the water of the fountain. No one was terribly close by and if he was chastised...it would likely only be a smack on the wrist from his older brother. So who cared? He flicked his thick tail and watched the droplets soar away, he then proceeded to do it twice more, laughing all the while. He loved it when he and his brother were sent out in the Square to work on things...it was so much better than the fields. Back breaking labor in a garden was not his forte...well, it was, but not by choice. Working out here however, made him feel a bit more free, more bale to take in the sights and sounds of the area and to see people, though there hadn't been many today. Still, all the more chance to tease his brother. Romping over to the shallower side, he raced forward and flopped into the slightly deeper water with a loud Splash! Rolling over, his fur drooping comically down his face he grinned and paddled lightly. Waiting for the reaction he so desired from Peder. "Peder!" He crowed in delight. "Come and get me, you dodgy fool! Haha! I bet you can't keep up with me in this fountain of doom! Come on, dozy-chops! Where'd you get to?"

The compliment and lightly phrased suggestion made Peder's friendly smile widen and he laughed at her joke. Suddenly his afternoon's prospects had brightened considerably. What a lucky break, running into such an interesting girl on the job. "What man could possibly say no to such a question," he agreed readily.
He rounded the corner and looked away from Syraelia's bound form just in time to see his sopping wet brother spring up from his 'watery grave'. He rolled his eyes and looked to her once again. "My brother, Pathos," he said wryly by way of introduction, before turning back to the fountain.
"Here I bring a pretty girl all this way to meet you and you go rolling around like a kitten! What would mother say?" Near the end of the question, he couldn't quite keep the amusement out of his voice. "And you call me the fool?"

More than pleased with the answer, she allowed a subtle smirk to accompany his wide grin. He was not shy with sweet talking, but then, she had picked him out of a thinning crowd for that reason (and, the fact that he had been pulling the rock which had initially captured her intrigue). He just seemed like the outgoing type, and they were always the most enjoyable company.
Before she could think up anything else to say while they continued their walk, it was suddenly over as they had reached their destination. A furry look-alike bumbling around and soaked to the skin. Well, this wasn't what Syraelia had been expecting to say the least. But, in the sheer humour of the situation she could only raise an eye curiously and smile in confused amusment.
"Ah, your brother. I wouldn't have guessed." She barely bit down a chuckle that had been trying to escape since they'd first rounded the corner. While they looked very similar, it was true, their general attitudes seemed to have that pleasant unique difference. Not polar opposites, they were similar enough to get along well and play to each other's humour, but not similar enough to grate on the nerves of everyone around them, and most likely themselves. She'd known true twins who had a quality resembling the latter. It was... less than enjoyable.
His compliment was enough to perk her attention back to the scene at hand, and as they drew closer (but remained far away enough that an afternoon bath was not accidentally had), she decided that introductions were in order. "Hello there! Pleasure to meet you, Pathos. I am Syraelia." Her voice held the familiar purr that had been introduced to Peder, but with a more musical sound that betrayed the laugher she had just recently swallowed.

Pathos had not expected his brother to reappear with a woman...that wasn't what normally happened.
His mouth fell slightly open as he took in her appearance, Torquehelm...very pretty, such lovely eyes...
He became aware of the fact that he was staring suddenly and closed his mouth, smiling sheepishly at his sibling and plunking his hindquarters back into the water. "Well, hello..." He murmured, abashed. "I didn't expect ol' pantaloons to come back with a lady now, did I? This is slightly awkward... Hello, dear lady... 'M Pathos." He extended a wet arm, the long hanging fluff saturated and dripping.
He hissed out of the corner of his mouth at his sibling. "You stupid sap! You did this on purpose! Why didn't you yell ahead to warn me? Or was the whole point to prove me a fool?" He winked, to show his actual lack of anger and stepped out of the fountain and away from the two to shake dry. He then turned about and sat back next to Peder.
"So, lovely lady, to what do we owe an honor such as yourself? Is it lucky that we happen upon you? Or are we simply saying hello?" He wriggled his brows and grinned lasciviously as he said so. Wagging a paw in the air.
