A slight frown touched his features and he nodded understandingly. No, Mili didn't seem the sort to withhold that sort of information. She would want to be human again even if she was...well, a bitch. He wrinkled his nose in thought and slowly tapped his lap, calling Doorie over without a word. The mechanical Mome rushed across the room and hopped smoothly into his lap before Hatter spoke up again.
He simply couldn't keep still when he was thinking and petting Doorie gave him a reason to move about without actually standing and pacing the room.
"Well, then..." He spoke at last, his tone unusually serious for the usually cheerful self. "Why don't I go and ask him then?" The Hatter looked between Rocky and Loreta, his expression still serious in that strange, dark way. He knew what he was offering and how the others were likely to respond to it. "I agree that his Queen had something to do with his change and I'm rather curious myself."

Rocky stared at the man sitting across from him. How far out of his mind was he? Was he completely gone in the head? "Are you insane? Why in the name of all the suits would you go into that terrible place! Anyone who walks in doesn't walk out."
Loreta wasn't as shocked. She had lived near the Wood for the majority of her child hood. She understood why Rocky was so terrified. She just didn't expect him to scream about it. The bird sighed and set her tea on the table. Why on earth would the Hatter want to go to that place? "I..."
"Loreta!" Rocky looked at her wide eyed. What possessed her to say something to encourage the man. She had that look on her face, that must be what she was after. The raccoon didn't like this at all. If she went into the Wood she wouldn't come out!
"Er... well. Are you sure you want to go into the Wood, Hatter?"

Hatter paused for a moment, staring at Rocky with a look of mixed surprise and confusion. The raccoon's reaction was far more intense than he'd expected. He had believed Rocky to be less supersitious than that, being a Corvistownien and all...but no, not with commentary like that. Either Kazifel frightening him had made Rocky that supersitious or he too believed all the rumours about The Wood.
Of course, they all weren't entirely false but they'd never done Hatter any harm.
Any lasting harm.
"I have been told I am." He said in response to Rocky's outburst. "And your ex-doll friend went in and came out, obviously, to drop miss Mili off here." Hatter didn't feel the need to explain to Rocky that he himself had been in and out of that place before as well. Loreta's concern, however, forced him to admit that small truth. He chuckled a little and shrugged his shoulders casually. "Why not? I'm curious about this Kazifel fellow and his Queen, and The Woods are nothing new to me. I've been in and out of there before during my various travels."
He'd met one of his best friends there after all!

Rocky stared blankly. His eyes were wide and his mouth was hanging open slightly. Well of course Kazifel came out of the Wood, he wasn't sane to begin with was he? That and he was bound to a Queen from the Wood. If he had been a normal biped he would have swayed on his feet. "Regardless of you making it out. I'm not going to visit someone who nearly killed me."
Loreta sat in silence for a while. She wasn't sure what to do. She had just met this man, but... well. It's not like she had much to lose? She was a one legged bird with a vice on her head. Not many people liked her. That and she was just as curious as the next person. The weird was something she would have to get over then? If she ever wanted to live life to the fullest why not take an adventure with a crazy inventor?
"I guess I'll come with you. Though it's not like we can go right now. We'd have to get some supplies and stuff right?" Loreta really had no idea why she was going through with this.
Rocky made a worried sound. He wouldn't say anything to Loreta but.... he would worry.

Hatter nodded casually to Rocky. His words were perfectly understandable. Not many people would pursue someone who tried to kill them. So Hatter would content himself with going it alone, so long as Rocky gave him a bit of direction of the matter.
...Or, well, apparently he wouldn't have to go it alone after all. Loreta was willing to accompany him.
He blinked and then slowly he smiled. It was a brilliant and rather charming smile, one that only a Diamond should've been able to pull off properly. But he seemed rather skilled at pulling those off.
"I'd be delighted to have you along, Loreta. You've made wonderful company so far." He bowed his head momentarily and stroked Doorie in thought. Yes, they'd have to do a bit more preparations than usual, considering that it wasn't just himself he was taking, but that was alright. Company was much appreciated to going it alone! "Taking a bit of time to set things in order would probably be best." Luckily she wasn't as spontaneous as he was and would save him from his on impetuous ways. "I will get supplies in together and you should set your affairs in order, what with work and all...then meet me back at my place when you're ready."
His gaze swept to Rocky.
"I'll need some directions, I fear. If anything just a general locale?"

Jobs generally sucked. Loreta had completely forgotten about taking off from hers. On the bright side she hadn't taken a vacation since she started working there... how many years ago? Her boss would probably let her take a break then. That would be fantastic. And she could always take a sick day or too to add in case of an extended trip.
Rocky sighed. "Well, you know. I haven't the slightest idea where they live. I figure since his Queen, Femi if I remember correctly, was pregnant so they probably used a couch service. There's only one service that I know of that can actually go through Avington partly. I imagine you could get the records from theme with a bit of persuasion." The raccoon shrugged. If the man wanted to go to the Wood that was his own business. He just hoped that Loreta would take care of herself.

Hatter's smoldering mood had quickly cheered into his usually bubbly excitement. Delighted by the prospect of taking a trip again. He hated to stay in one place for too long and he hadn't been in The Wood since...well, since he had met Marchie all those years ago.
That wouldn't do.
He lifted up smoothly, picking up Doorie as he did. "Ah, yes... I understand. I'll start there and figure out the rest as I go. It shouldn't be too hard to find a man that was once a doll." He mused lightly, pondering if he should hunt Marchie down for this trip? No, he wasn't about to expose Loreta to the rabbit yet. He'd at least wait until she had two legs and could, well, defend herself a bit better or maybe keep her balance. "What's this Queen's species, by the way? That should at least narrow it down a little."
He glanced to Mili at last and arched a brow. She hadn't piped up so far, but he hoped she'd at least lend a little something if she had some information.

"She's a squirrel," Rocky provided. The raccoon still had no idea why anyone would go after a nutcase like that and his Queen. And why would they go in the Wood to find them... Rocky wasn't superstitious but if a doll walked into the Wood and came out a man, what the hell went on inside of the Wood?
"She doesn't sound that scary," Loreta said looking over at Rocky. He still seemed on edge about the whole thing.
"Probably because she wasn't in her natural habitat so to speak." The raccoon shrugged, "But... are you sure you want to go in the Wood? You in particular Loreta."
"Yes, yes I do," Loreta said. She actually had no idea where that sudden burst of confidence came from. At least from the look on Rocky's face it convinced him. It's not like if she went into the Wood she wouldn't come back, right? Hatter had to know what he was doing to some degree if he walked out of the Wood before, right?

Hatter was enjoying the toss up between Rocky and Loreta. Rocky was full of concern, but Loreta had put her faith into Hatter. She expected him to get her in and out in one piece and he intended to. Loreta had become a friend to him in a very short amount of time, it was hard to achieve that usually but there were a slim few who could catch his interest from the beginning and hold it.
He rose smoothly to his feet, smirking slightly.
"And her suit? I know she's a Queen and it shouldn't be too hard to find a Squirrel Queen with an ex-doll for her King, but a suit will make it that much easier." Not to mention that much shorter of a stay in The Wood. Rocky would appreciate it. "As I've said, I've got no fear of the place. It's all a bunch of silly superstitions. Well, most of it is... There's always some truth to rumors after all." He stopped himself when he realized he was rambling. "If you keep a level head, though, we'll be just fine."

"Spades. Kazifel is a wolf, King of Clubs. Highlander Corvistowneian. I imagine he would be easier to find once you're in the Wood. I mean something like that would stick out like a sore thumb," The raccoon's tail twitched in discomfort. He was very unsure of this eccentric man. He was obviously a genius but would he take care of Loreta? "Good luck."
Loreta looked over to Mili, she was sitting there stone still and silent. Apparently she didn't want to hear any of their conversation about her former friend. The heron sighed as she struggled to stand on her one leg. Maybe she would manage to get her second before they made it to the Wood? She doubted it. Unless she could convince the Hatter to hold off for a bit. She highly doubted that, that was for sure. "We're going then? I suppose I should fly back to Capital City and tell the boss I need to take a break."
