Seki absolutely beamed once Dilis responded to his smoke ball, delighting in her enthusiasm. Most people found his little smoke bombs a nusiance due to his tendancies to use them as a smoke screen in town. They made for great tools of escape, honestly, and also a bit of fun in situations such as these.
"Of course I'd love to show you some more! They're quite fun, albeit a rather dead-end hobby." He scuffed his foot a little and glanced down at his pudgy little bander, watching her bounce along at his side. "There isn't much work for the sort of stuff I like to play around with, honestly."
He reached in his pouch, shuffled through the small cherry-sized balls until he found another one. This one's fuse was red instead of blue like the previous one. He struck a match and lit the fuse before tossing the bomb into the air. Once more it exploded with a crisp POP and coloured smoke filled the air.

Dilis couldn't be happier with their interaction so far, she'd found a friend that shared her love for science and that pleased her so much.
"Oh good, I am enjoying myself so much! Dead-end hobby? Nothing is dead-end if you enjoy it. People will pay for anything a person could do well, this I know. Have more faith in yourself and trust me, you'll go places." Dilis smiled. It was refreshing to meet someone with as low self-esteem as she had. Though it may not be exactly a good thing, Dilis felt he could feel better about himself if he gave it a chance.
He had popped another bomb but this time came out a magnificient red. "Oh my! They are so terribly pretty. I'm glad I got to share this with you, Seki. Thank you kindly." Father would have been terribly upset if he knew what Dilis was doing with Seki alone but what he didn't know would not hurt him.

Seki dipped his head slightly as she spoke. If it weren't for his dark fur his face would've been redder than a cherry...or the cherry bomb he'd tossed. He lifted his neon green eyes after a moment, smiling at Dilis.
"Thank you, Dilis... I just meant there isn't much revenue for my specific line of science and I'm not quite good enough to make the proper smoke screens or smoke grenades or anything." He shrugged slightly and smiled easily. "If all else fails I can take up work as someone's assistant, like Mom."
As he went on, Seki began to dig into his pouch of smoke balls once more and produced a green one this time. He twirled it about in his hand for a moment, playing with the small ball as he walked.
"You're very welcome, Dilis. I've had a wonderful time with you, really. I don't often get to just walk and talk with someone. Or even really call someone a friend." He struck a match and lit the fuse, tossing this smoke ball into the head a few feet ahead of them. The familiar POP sounded and the air was filled with green smoke. "I honestly don't have many friends, today's been a treat." When the smoke cleared he glanced back. "Maybe we can meet up again in the City someday?"

Dilis smiled at Seki for getting embarassed. I guess others really aren't very nice to him... I'm glad I could give him a break though Dilis thought.
"You are welcome Seki dear, I think that if you could practice more and develop your skills you'd be just as good as your mom in the science department. Don't sell yourself short by aspiring to become someone's assistant. You should aspire to make someone your assistant." She smiled and scratched at the dirt slightly as they walked, she hoped she had gotten through to him.
"Aw Seki, I have had the best time with you, I do not have friends enough to count on one paw, so this was a treat for me as well... Oh my! I thought the blue was my favorite but the green is far, far better." Dilis squealed, she really was enjoying herself watching all the pretty colors Seki could make for her. "I would certainly bet we'll cross paths again in the future. It would be a shame if we did not."

Aspire to make something more of himself?
Seki could never imagine following in either of his parents' footsteps. Maxwell was excelling swiftly with his mechanical toys and Ophelia was back to work on improving her genetic science now that she had her time to work on her own. Even his siblings were making things of themselves... All of Ophelia's children, at least those three with Corvistownien blood, were swiftly excelling. Perhaps it was the Torque in his full-blooded siblings that caused them to display less of a passion in the scientific arts than their half-siblings.
Yet...if Dilis believed so strongly in him...then maybe he ought to give himself more credit?
"I... I'll keep that in mind." He resisted saying thank you again for fear of sounding too repetitive. Quickly he shook off his nervous uncertainty, refusing to mope around his new friend. "You like the green best, eh? I'm glad! I like it a lot too, but I've always been partial to that color."

From the way he acted around the subject, Dilis could tell he didn't get much encouragement from others. It was a shame because if he just practiced, he could excel in any subject he wanted, he had amazing genes. Father always told her to shoot for the moon, even if you missed... you could end up in the stars and Dilis believed that fully. She didn't understand why others didn't have as much faith in themselves as she did. It sounded like in Seki's family, the other siblings were praised more than he was. "Good. It would be a shame for me to have said all that just now for no reason" Dilis smiled. "Yes definitely, though I am quite partial to the color blue, the green is lovely. It still amazes me what you can do with pyrotechnics, Seki dear. If father ever lets me, I should like to study up more on it."
She would love to have the freedom to study whatever she wanted but Father had told her that before she died, mother had strictly forbid it. Because she forbid it, Father had felt it was his duty to uphold her dying wishes. Dilis guessed she could respect that but also realized that would take a lot of experiences away from her.

It wasn't really that the rest of his siblings got more praise for their skills than Seki did, that wasn't it at all. His parents had gone out of their way to dote on him, to buy him Mocha and had even struggled with him to keep his weight up. The thought momentarily drew his eyes down to his protruding ribs, the sight both comforting and despairing. Everyone said he was too skinny but no matter what they said it just, never felt enough.
He quickly averted his eyes, he couldn't stand too look at himself for that long. Instead he forced that delicate smile of his back in place and returned to the conversation at hand.
"Its a bit dangerous to study, if you don't mix the chemicals just right they can cause awful fires. I know from experience." He laughed sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck in a nervous gesture. "Maybe though, sometime I can show you? If you're careful then I'm sure you could make a few without any problem."
Seki was still deciding whether or not to fish out another smoke ball when he caught sight of a change in the forest around them. The trees up ahead weren't nearly so oppressive and while they were still dense, they held a light and mysterious appeal. Seki was almost tempted to venture in with her...but he didn't want to risk getting Dilis in trouble.
"I think we're getting close, Dilis. Are you surroundings a bit more familiar now?"
The border between Torquehelm and Avington was still a way off, but they were getting closer.

"Oh Seki, that would be lovely. I'm overly careful and I follow direction well, I'm sure it would be okay." Dilis looked around and things did indeed looked familiar, the surroundings were getting more pleasant and beautiful so she knew it wouldn't be long now before she'd be heading to her home. She hoped that if Father was home, he would at least be lenient with her.
"Er-Yes Seki, it's familiar now. We should be there in no time at all really." She was sad that it had to end so soon, she was having so much fun with Seki. He was so nice and he hadn't judged her at all. She cheered up though because she knew it would only be a matter of time before they ran into each other again. Knowing that fact comforted her so that she could keep going.
"If I don't get a chance to later, I want to thank you again for saving me. I know a lot of people would have just kept going and ignored me." Dilis moved over toward Seki and gave him a soft kiss on the cheek, nothing funny but... friendly. She wasn't sure how that fit in the world of a lady but at that moment, she didn't care. She was just grateful to Seki for his friendship and showing her that not everyone was bad.

Seki smiled slightly, enjoying Dilis's enthusiasm although he couldn't help but worry about her getting hurt. If it was what she wanted, however, he wasn't going to be the one to deny her the chance. Perhaps, by the time the time they met up in Capital City again then she'd have bipedal and they could play around with some of his pyrotechnics.
Following the path through the dreary Torquehelm woods to the border of Avington was almost sad for Seki, but upon reaching the end of the line so to speak he was quite shocked. Dilis had leaned up and kissed him. The underweight feline tensed up and his eyes widened with an adorable mix of surprise and confusion.
"I..." For a moment Seki couldn't move nor speak, he merely blinked and then slowly rubbed the back of his neck. "You're welcome, D-Dilis... I know it must've been awful to feel so lost like that." He laughed gently, relaxing after that dumbfounding kiss. "I'm just glad I could help out."
