Marie chased after Bernard and huffed slightly when she saw that the book was not only still intact but entirely unharmed. Besides its location, nothing much had changed. She glared at Fino in mock-reproof while he ignored her in favor of addressing his uncle, book grasped carefully in his now-human hand. "She didn't throw it as hard as she might have, Uncle, but I still wouldn't have managed to save it from the pond if Heilyn had not gotten there first. She was quite perceptive to notice it flying out the window with so little warning." Crimson eyes were amused as they regarded the coyote, his mood once again more relaxed and pleased now that he saw the girl hadn't done much else to Bernard in the meantime. She was certainly more than capable of terrorizing him further when he wasn't around. He handed the book over to the other human, then turned his face towards the girl and glared back. Her expression, meanwhile, had turned to Heilyn. She was not amused that the stinky coyote had saved Bernard's book from the pond.

Her ears picked up the sound of footsteps heading toward them. She looked over to see a rather frazzled-looking Bernard (well, more frazzled than usual, anyway) with a young girl tailing him. Was that the girl His Majesty referred to...?
She returned his smile, severely amused by the smile that decorated his frazzled appearance. She did her best not to laugh.
"I'm doing very well, Your Highness. I'm glad to see your day wasn't ruined and you are doing well yourself." Her smile relaxed itself a little as she regarded the girl. Judging from what they were saying about the strength of the girl, she was nothing ordinary. She gave a modest shrug at Serafino's mention of her saving the book.
"Hello," she dipped her head respectfully to the girl. Boy, that girl was not giving her a happy look. Was she angry that she'd saved Bernard's book? What a brat. "I don't believe we've met. My name is Heilyn." She had the feeling to not drop her guard around this girl, though.

"Oh?"
Bernard's face was suddenly quizzical and he turned to Heilyn, smile a little more sheepish...he hadn't meant for her to get wet and how could he not have noticed that she was wet from the waist down? And-....how could he have not noticed that...her mask...was off....?
This was new.
She actually had...a rather pretty face, for some reason he wouldn't have expected.
"I well, thank you, miss Heilyn. That was exceedingly kind of you. This book is very important to me. Yes, I'm am rather well, better now, anyway."
He took he modest nod in stride and watched as the Coyote turned and acknowledged Marie...oh goodness...he wondered if this would go well at all.
Waiting on the sulky axe's reply, he studied Heilyn's face. It was intriguing, her eyes were quite a blazing yellow and the set of her features were more strong than pretty, so strange... He couldn't even fathom why she had taken it off.

Marie looked the coyote up and down for a long minute in obvious appraisal, as if she was judging whether or not the woman was worth her time, or even worth acknowledging. Finally she sniffed and drew herself to her full - short - height. A human twelve-year-old was short no matter how you cut things. "My name is Marie. You may address me by it, so long as you do so in a respectful tone." Otherwise, don't talk to me at all, smelly thing.
The thought was implied in her expression.
No, the girl decided, she did not like this woman who had saved annoying Bernard's book. She didn't like many people, and this woman was never going to be one of the few exceptions. Ever. She looked away from her very deliberately and took Fino's hand, leaning against him and watching the surface of the pond. She was glad the woman had gotten wet.
The Queen sighed and took her hand, inclining his head to Heilyn and his uncle. "Marie is mine. Forgive the late introductions." His what was left deliberately vague. If the woman wanted to assume she was his child, he would not correct her. He would, however, burst out laughing on the inside and his uncle may very well choke at the implication of actually being related to the summoned axe.

[Alrighty.... this is... a little better. XD ]
Heilyn was not actually very wet. The water that was left on her was there, but beaded and running off of her quite readily almost as efficiently as water off a duck's back. Hey, that oil wasn't there just to ruin social interactions!
She took note of every look the Axe gave her. She smiled back and nodded at Marie. "I'll definitely keep it in mind." to interact with you as little as possible. but she kept a friendly demeanor up. If Marie started anything, Heilyn wanted it to be as unprovoked and therefore leaving her as blameless as possible. She turned her look to Bernard as the girl went to Serafino. The interest in Bernard's look did not escape her notice. She honestly expected it. He of all people would take interest in the oddity Heilyn knew she was.
"As you've probably noticed, I no longer need my mask to breath. I had the incredible fortune of being granted an immunity to poisons. I have no more use for my breathing tanks. You may have them if you'd like. They're filled with the air from the Bog, and I know you like toying with strange things." She turned back to the Queen and nodded.
"No worries, Your Majesty...it is a pleasure to meet her either way." Not really. That girl was a brat. But it was just as useful to know who to avoid as it was to know who to align yourself with. Marie was his? His...? Heilyn assumed relative. She felt awkward prying into the Queen-she-just-met-5-minutes-ago's business.

Bernard grinned somewhat sheepishly, still feeling quite bad that the Coyote had needed to run into the lake to salvage his book.
He watched her speak to Marie...but could tell from the vague sneer on the battle-axe's face that she disapproved of the Bog dweller as well. Damn, he had hoped that miss Heilyn might have made friends with Marie so that she could give him some notes...
That thought was killed almost at once when Heilyn turned and offered him her tanks of Bog air.
"You really wouldn't mind? I would love the chance to experiment on some of the Bog air, is it really filled with a type of acid?"
He shook his head looking slightly abashed.
"And I'm getting ahead of myself again, forgive me. I'm glad to hear that your ability allowed you to breathe freely, miss Heilyn. Would you mind accompanying me up to my office so that I might set up an experiment on the tanks?"

((Aaaand... Fino is done here. <3 Since Heilyn is going with Bernard to his office, most likely, and Fino doesn't wish to drag Marie up there. Also because his muse is... *cough* confused.))

[LOL I'll bet it is. XD ]
Heilyn smirked at the older man and how excited he got over what was essentially her trash. Then at his shyness for getting so excited.
"I would love to. Let me go retrieve them from my room and I'll meet you at your office," she dipped her head at His Majesty, seeing as he didn't have much else to say to her, "by your leave, Your Majesty?" As soon as he excused her she left up to her room, trying not to make eye contact with Marie as she passed, who seemed to have thrown her an even dirtier look when she made His Highness Bernard happy. Good timing, too. The sun was starting to come out again and Heilyn had to shade her eyes just to see where she was going. ~~ She could hardly refrain from skipping as she walked back to Bernard's office carrying the tanks, humming the entire way. She was so happy to be rid of the things. Despite their weight, Heilyn carried them with ease in one hand, having spent the past several months lugging them around on her back in her quadrupedal form. It did keep her in very good physical condition, though. At least they did that much for her. She knocked on his door when she arrived.

Bernard practically leapt for the door, having been unable to sit while he waited for the tanks of bog air. This was going to be exciting, he just knew it. Perhaps the air could be used in order to create a few offensive spells? He certainly hoped so...he was almost certain he could work it into one that kept blowing up in his face at any rate.
Pulling the dorr open, he gestured Heilyn inside.
"Come in, come in. Thanks again, I've been wanting to experiment with toxic air for quite some time, actually."
He led her over to the far wall of his small office and, throwing a grin at her over his shoulder, walked through the wall. When she moved further forward, she would see that the wall itself was an illusion and that she too could pass through into the larger room beyond.
Bernard's actual study had another three shelves of books and notes. Piles of odd containers and tables covered in various potions, ingredients, and plants.
There were two very large windows, one of which the book had sailed from, and Bernard gestured for the Coyote to put the tanks own near them.
"Thank you, Miss Heilyn, this...well... I know I tend to get...overexcited but I have always wanted to try this. I appreciate your putting up with me."
As he spoke he pulled three books down from the shelves and began flipping through them.
"If you'll excuse me, I'm afraid that my mind is running off without me...remind me later, I'm sure I'll have some results to show you."
