He now wished his power worked the other way around and that of instead making people hungry he could take away his own hunger. "Still many hours till sun down." Marrok thought dimly looking over a pair of human eyes glasses that looked ridiculous on his black furred, feline head. And you couldn't look at the rest of him for relief. He wore his lord's tunic and leggings. He was well aware how strange it made him look and he was counting on it. The extra attention it might draw to him might increase his chance of making a sale. Although thinking about his wares made his hope sink just a little more as all he had was a wheel barrel full of junk. If only his master hadn't gotten sick. He'd be here in Marrok's place. They'd have some kind of food to sell and he could use his power to make sure who ever passed their booth was ready to eat. Now all that awaited him was a promise from his master. "You will always be the last to eat under this roof; but if you don't secure us some money, you will be first. First to starve!" Marrok wrinkled his nose and pushed the human spectacles closer to his eyes and set about looking at the possible customers.

The mouse scurried down the walkways. He was not in any kind of hurry; he just felt the need to move. Making his way onto a busier street he slowed his pace to an almost normal walk, he did not want to have his horns snagged on something. He had been so busy with doing errands for Mnem these last few weeks that he had not been taking any time to himself. Thus, he had spent the whole day seeking his own pleasure, visiting shops, bars, anything else that had caught his fancy. Scanning the area to see if anything would catch his interest, since he would just move on if nothing did, his sight was soon caught on a black furred feline, his back leg bound up showing that it was a Torquehelm. The cat was wearing clothes much too big for itself. The glasses were also an added odd commodity on the feline’s face. Why would a creature dress so? he wondered.

Marrok continued to stand and scan every direction for possible costumers. When he noticed the mouse give his "shop" a glance he almost jumped for joy but suppressed the physical reaction. He risked making eye contact with the mouse and smiled as if he was having a great day. Marrok figured costumers these days probably had enough to mull over with out the drama their shop keepers might burden them with.
'Now if he does come over here, what on earth could I have of possible interest to him?' Marrok wondered . His display was pitiful to be honest. A wheel barrel filled with junk. He had books with out pages, tea cups without handles and soap dispensers with out soap.
Marrok shifted in his over-sized clothes in another vain attempt to get comfortable.

His interest was strong enough that he decided he might as well see what the feline was up to. Making his way over, he nodded his head in greeting. He eyed the feline a moment longer, watching as the creature adjusted itself in its clothes, a movement that clearly showed the clothes were not his own. Really, why was the creature dressed so? he wondered, though he was not interested enough to ask aloud. What others did with their appearance were none of his problem.
He scanned the various items that were on display. Soap bottles, books that appeared to be missing pages, tea cups most of them without their handles, were among them. There was nothing that seemed to attract his attention, straight off, but he knew there might at least be something that he could amuse himself with.
“So, wot do you have here that could be of amusement?” he asked the lower rank.

'Amusement. Right.' Marrok thought dimly. Torquehelm were not known for their optimism and Marrok was no exception. 'Well. Here goes . . . something!'
Marrok flashed another brief smile and fished a book out of the pile atop his wheel barrel.
"What's the greatest book you've ever read my, good sir?" he asked the mouse while trying infuse more respect into his words. "I guarantee this book trumps it by a mile stone!" He then fanned the pages before the mouse showing that each was blank. "Because you will write this one yourself. It could be about anything. Action, romance and most importantly YOU! How much would you pay for that? Wait! Do to my large surplus, coupled with my good mood, I'm having a special today. Name your own price!" he flashed another smile.
'Anything. Even the smallest currency.' Marrok. thought desperately. 'I'll use it to by a bread crumb, starve the next customer to the point of cannibalism and charge them a fortune for it!'

Spying was generally a bad thing to do. Ezekiel had to admit this was pretty entertaining though. Why on earth was the cat trying to sell a blank book? Not many people wrote stories for the fun of it, unless they had too much time on their hands. Or... well Zane used to write things. However he would be very unlikely to buy something from a street merchant in this part of town. He gave his typical charming smile. As he strutted forward. He was in his corset, it would be a little inconvenient to change while he still had it on. After all, he kept his money in it as well. Didn't want that spilling out on the street. Ezekiel had decided to interrupt. It was more interesting to see what would happen if he took part in the little conversation. "My, my, my, you boys seem to be talking about some interesting things." He looked at some of the things spilled out around the cat. "So, rather than a book. Do you happen to have something shiny? I think this man might appreciate it a little more." He winked at the oddly dressed feline. Help with a sale then?

The mouse narrowed his eyes as he eyed the newcomer. He was a flamboyant thing, he thought, all decked out in a corset in his bipedal form. He could not wait till he would receive his own though he still found himself jealous at the lower cards’ power. He soon forgave the bird, however, when his ears perked up at the words of the newcomer said, something shiny?
Something shiny - a necklace, jewel, or something else equally as fascinating - did indeed sound a lot more interesting then the empty book the feline was currently trying to sell to him. Not that, mind you, writing his story would not amuse him. Only he often found that others did not need to know his story, not yet anyways.
“Yes, something Shiny does sound a little more tempting.” He said nodding his head in agreement, wondering if the feline would indeed have something that would hold his interest more.

'Gah! What was the bird trying to do?' Marrok wondered, shuffling back slightly in surprise at the increase of attention. He had nothing shiny. Not even a rusting piece of metal. He had hopped a laugh might inspire purchase of the book. Apparently while his hunger increased his wit diminished.
He risked a glance at the bird then remembered to give a welcoming smile. Marrok imaged a bipedal form might make wearing his master's out fit much easier.
"Well let me see," the cat said all but stumbling forward and hooking his wrists on the rim of his barrel. He shifted through the junk as if looking for something.
"No. No. No. I'm afraid things that shine tend to go fast on name your own price day," Marrok said looking at the mouse and offering a sympathetic smile.

Too bad kitty. Trying to help failed sometimes. He had nothing of jewelry then? Perhaps he had something else of real interested besides a blank journal? "Perhaps you have some fountain pens? Quills? Letter openers? Something with some elaborate decoration for cheap. Or maybe... you have books that are already written?"
That was probably hoping for a lot. This interestingly dressed feline probably had nothing of interest in that wheel barrel. Ez tilted his head at the glasses. They didn't suit this feline at all. As a coordinator for events such as weddings, Ez's brain was hung up on those awkward frames. But he wasn't about to randomly give fashion advice to a complete stranger. That was just rude--even if they needed it. Maybe if he had a book he would buy one for Zane. That would be lovely then? A random book always made Zane or his Dad happy... but they didn't have much time for any of that anymore.
He held back a sigh at the thought. What was the point of life without fun?

Marrok thought over the birds suggestions still half wondering what on earth he hoped to achieve butting in. Could he be trying to help? Pfft, Marrok thought. Why would this creature, who seemed to be more well off in life, waste his time on a shabby looking feline? Just as he pushed the matter aside something clicked.
letter opener . . .
"Ah!" the Feline said, shoving things off his barrel in a chaotic and possibly dangerous fashion. He bit onto the handle of a letter opener and brought his head up to display it for the customers. It was his master's. He remembered snatching it up as he rummaged through the house looking for things to sell that would not be missed. Unfortunately, it would be, but he hoped his master would simply replace it.
'Pity it's name your own price day,' Marrok thought. He grinned with the simple instrument between his teeth.
