Mick nearly pranced into the living room, his excited steps making a pattering, ticking noise on the hardwood floors. "So this is home! Or, well, home's living room, but still home! I'm sure you remember some of the trinkets mom likes to keep. She says they've been passed down in the family for generations upon generations and she can't even remember who started collecting them. Definitely the Hisstor side of the family, I think, cause who else would really be interested in so many bone ornaments, huh?"
He gazed fondly at one of the figurines, a giant hawk swooping down and perched on the fish that it caught in its talons. The detail and intricacies of the carving were remarkable and doubtless the work of a master craftsman. Before he could say anything else, however, a louder clicking noise could be heard coming from somewhere else inside the house.
The sound wasn't as regular as normal footsteps, instead seeming to drag something along as it moved. When the reason why came into view, it became obvious why. The small cougar's back-left leg hung at an extremely awkward angle, twisted beyond anything that should have been normal and looking like it should be painful. Indeed, bits of bone could be seen peeking through the pale fur. It didn't look like a new injury, but the mouse wouldn't remember it. The woman regarded Aderlass briefly with a blank, surprised look. Obviously she didn't recognize him as immediately as her son.
"Mom!" Mick exclaimed happily, "D'you remember Aderlass back from when we used to live in the other village, when I was smaller? He's come for a visit!"
Her mixed Range and Hisstor heritage was obvious by her colors and the bone necklace she wore, a small rodent's skull quite prominent against her chest. After a brief moment's puzzled thought, her expression suddenly cleared and she smiled. "Aderlass... yes, I do believe I remember you. If you'd like, you can call me Miss Eva like you used to"
Mick grinned like a fiend. "And isn't his timing just great? Two days til my birthday!"

Met with the sight of the small cougar the mouse recognized her. “It is nice to see you again Miss Eva. It has been a while.” he greeted her, bowing his head slightly in respect. His Tove wiggled in the air, making light chirping sounds that he often took to mean its happiness or playfulness. He reached out, providing a paw with a glove, the Tove wriggled itself around it playfully.
He looked the Pomeranian’s mother over; trying to remember her from the last time he had seen her. The injured limb was not familiar to him, especially the angle it was at now. One would think they would remember such an oddity.
“I have come back for a . . . visit . . . Yes, a visit. My brother requested my presence for the holidays. However, if I had known that you going to be here I would have come home earlier. How long have you been back in the village?” He asked curious. Then the last words the Pomeranian had yipped came to his attention. “Two days till your birthday?” Had it really been that long? That he had be able to forget something like that?

Mick yipped a few times as the slithey played in the air, the sound high-pitched and excited. His mother winced slightly, ears slanting back, but she she brought them forward again with a slightly rueful smile. "Oh, just long enough for people to stop being so stuffy towards us hopefully. I don't get out very much, as you can see, and I'm so very glad my little Mickey Muffin is here to take care of me."
And that would probably be a horribly familiar nickname as well. The canine groaned comically, his own ears going back. "Mo~om, come on! He just got here after this long and already you're starting with that?"
She laughed and reached out a paw carefully to swipe at his cheek, all of her claws tucked safely away. "Oh, stop that. Your mother's allowed to take liberties around a childhood friend. Do you remember when I threw him a party out by the lake not far from here when he was smaller and all of the girls at the next beach over thought it would be so much fun to cover him in ribbons? I just couldn't stop laughing the whole day."
Mick ducked his head to his paws, groaning again, but perked up again far faster than any normal person should be able to. "But guess what?! This year... Mom said I get to take part in one of her rituals! Finally, after asking for yeeeears and yeeeeeeears."
"And that's family business, sweetie," she said with a slight frown, nudging him again with her paw. She seemed to have to be very careful with her balance so her injured leg didn't make her topple over.

He chuckled over the memory that Mick’s mother had shared for it had indeed been an interesting birthday party. He secretly thought that the gruesome-ball-of-fluff had enjoyed the attentions of the females wanting to dress him in ribbons, though he had protested as much when he had pressed him in teasing.
“I do bet indeed that you are not able to get around too well, which I am sorry to hear about.” He nodded towards her injured leg. “Though I do bet that Mick here does take good care of you. If he does not, you just let me know and I will make sure he does,” he teased, knowing full well that the Pomeranian was taking better care of his mother then anyone else seemed possible of.
At the pup’s word of taking part in a ritual his ears flickered forward in interest. While he was more then aware that it was none of his business, his curiosity was caught. He did not remember anything about a ritual. Maybe Mick had mentioned it here or there but nothing to cause this bragging.

Eva and Mick both laughed at the mouse's comment, the dog butting against him with his nose before skittering to the side, out of the way. "I take great care of Mom! But come on, do you want to see my room? You know you do! Mom's already started baking some sort of bird for dinner tonight, a chicken or a pheasant or a duck or something, I don't know. We'll need the carcass later for the ritual anyway."
He dodged out of the way of another careful swipe, laughing louder, and skittered off towards a hallway and presumably his bedroom. The feline looked towards Aderlass, her smile rueful. "Please don't pay any mind to that nonsense. You know how excitable he it. Just tell me how long you think you might be staying so I can plan meals in my head and go off after him - he'll get so antsy if you don't."

He watched as the pup scampered off, almost skidding into a wall when he took a turn too quick. Turning his attention back to his friend’s mother he raised an eyebrow chuckling softly. “He has not changed much I see.”
“Do not worry yourself over his nonsense; I will take none of it to mind.” He pondered over his ability to stay for a few days. His brother had just said that he needed him home for the holidays, giving him no time limit or due date. Weighing his options he decided he could appease both Mick and Miss Eva in staying for a few days. He could always drop by his home and explain the situation; it was not like they were not in the same town.
“Rest assured, Miss Eva, I will save you from his antsy-ness as much as I can. I will stay with you for a few days. Three, maybe? I will need to stop by soon and report to my brother though, I am sure you understand how he would react if I did not.”
With that said he followed after the pup.

The cougar tilted her head and seemed to consider a few things, eyes going half-lidded with thought before they opened once again and she nodded, smiling. "Of course, and it will be lovely to have you for as long as you'll stay. He's needed someone to wear down some of that energy, as stuck here with me as he is." She waved him off and limped towards the kitchen, going to check on the alleged 'bird' in the oven.
Mick's room could be found simply by the amount of noise the canine was making, nails ticking and dancing and skittering across the wooden floor as he whined in excitement. When Aderlass entered, he would see pale yellow walls, a large circular cushion in the corner that served as a bed, several chew-toys gnawed to bits scattered across the floor, and lots and lots of bone knickknacks. It seemed his family's habit extended even into his room, though this set was in a glass-fronted cabined and didn't look like they'd been disturbed in a long while.
"I can't believe you're here! It's so neat that you're here! I've missed having someone to play with, oh man, and I've just been soooo bored lately. I can't wait for my birthday! That's the only thing that lets me calm down enough to get to sleep at night. It's just gonna be so cool!"

Faced with the excited fluff-ball all alone, he was a little overwhelmed for a moment. It had been a while since he had been around someone this . . . active. After Mick had left, an event the mouse barely remember, he had soon taken up an apprenticeship with the goal of giving himself somewhere to go in life, causing himself to find himself alone more then in company’s presence. He had not wanted to get stuck here in Morganberry, at home, like those around him. No, he had wanted something much more worthy in life.
And now he was close really to that goal. He had found a shop and was about to make have its opening. He was planning on soon making his appearance into the court of the Clubs. His brother calling his home for the holidays was not in his plan and this surprise, though it was not completely unwelcomed, was a little bit of a stumbler for the rodent.
“It really has been a long time, Mick. I have missed you sorely too; though I have been really busy as of late.” He did not really care for the pup to ask too deeply into his plans so he quickly carried on with, “Your birthday, huh? Any big plans for it, other then the ritual ?” He was hoping by mentioning ‘the word’ that the Pomeranian would tell him something more about his big event then what he had promised the pup’s mom not to interfere in.

The word set off another fit of excited yips and a jittery dance of excitement. He didn't seem to pick up on Aderlass's quickly changed topic at all, thoroughly distracted by thoughts of his birthday and the ritual.
"Ohhh no, that's definitely big enough to keep me happy! I mean, Mom's going to cook something big and tasty, but we won't need the bones from that cause she said it wouldn't have time to dry anyway, not in time for whatever it is she's going to do. I've seen her do a few other things before, sitting on the sidelines and stuff like that, but I've never seen her do any of the big ones like the one she told me her father did with her when she got old enough, before he... y'know, died or whatever."
Jumping to land on the cushion and quickly bounding back over to frolic around Aderlass a little, he didn't seem to have any problems at all like his mom discussing a 'family' matter with someone he considered such a close friend. "Her dad was the one with the Hisstor, you know, and apparently along with all the little bone things Mom likes so much, some of the rituals she does were passed down from that side of the family too! I've always sort of wanted to go there someday, but she said I wouldn't like it. I dunno how she'd know, though, since I don't think she's ever actually been there either."
