Bringing his plate into the kitchen he placed it on the counter along with Mick’s.
"I have maybe half an hour before I need to crash,” [/i] Mick informed him.
Half an hour? he thought. Having been living on his own for so long he was not used to arranging his schedule to anyone else’s except for Minh’s, on the rare occasion.
Done with the dishes, he followed Mick back to his room. The figurines still made him nervous and as he looked at them he was careful not to think about them and what they were too deeply.
The half hour to sleep was spent with Mick showing him some of the new things that he had gotten while gone, proud of himself. ‘Oh, oh, and this I got . . .”, “And this once . . .” That was until Miss Eva called out that it was bedtime for Mick.
Watching the dog do way to many turns on his pallet, that he should have become dizzy, he chuckled to himself. He really had missed the pup.
Settling down to stare at the ceiling before falling asleep he wondered absentmindedly how Minh was doing.

The morning dawned bright, early, and loud. There seemed to be no muzzy period between the time Mick's eyes opened and the time he sprung out of bed, yipping and stretching and yawning with unnecessary force. "It's light out!" he exclaimed, staring at the barely-bright morning and stating the unbelievably obvious. "Bathroom! Food! Then practice!"
If anything, waking only seemed to find the fluffy creature more hyper than any other point in the day. Giving Aderlass a mischievous glance, he bounded over and licked him wetly up his cheek, setting fur the wrong way and leaving slobber, before cackling and dashing from the room.
Sounds could be heard in other parts of the house, the clinking of dishes and pots and other things that said 'kitchen' quite clearly. Evidently the canine's mother had already been awake for a little while and was taking care of the aforementioned breakfast before her son could burst into the kitchen.

He was most definitely not pleased at being awakened by the canine’s yips and sloppy kiss. Not being a morning person the early morning was enough to make him groan. Giving a frail attempt at wiping most of the dog spit from his face, he gave another groan and flung his arm across his eyes trying to block out the sun that Mick had be happy about just a moment before.
Finally forcing himself out of bed he made his way drunkenly down the hall and towards the awful noise that was emanating from the kitchen. Gads, he really hated mornings.
“Morn’,” he greeted the two in the kitchen with a cracking voice. “Coffee?” he asked, more then hopeful the answer would be yes. He sincerely doubted Miss Eva would give any to Mick . . . the thought alone made him groan again, but he was hoping that she might have some hidden away.

Eva looked up as the mouse entered and smiled apologetically, looking somewhat haggard. Had she even slept? "I'm sorry, Aderlass, but I don't keep coffee in the house. I don't want Mick getting into it, and besides, it weakens the bones. You know us well enough to know how unacceptable that would be. Breakfast will be ready momentarily, though."
There were two eggs frying on a pan on the stove, its handle carefully modified for the use of mouth rather than hand. They were scrambled and covered in cheese, filled with spinach and mushrooms and other small ingredients. Within moments, the woman had them plated and Mick was shoving his across the kitchen floor, nearly inhaling the large portion of egg before he began licking furiously at the juices left on the plate. She handed the other plate to Aderlass and went to get a bowl of water for herself, lapping quietly.
"So, Mick no doubt mentioned, we're going to be using much of today in private family time practicing for the ritual. I'd ask that you find something else to do for today, dear, as we'll be rather busy. We should be finished around dinner time, since I know how bored my little muffin will probably get with all of it. Until then, will you be able to entertain yourself with your family and around town?"

Trying to suppress a groan, that was the response from her shooting down his dreams, he took a seat at the table. Watching Mick push his plate around the floor while he ate cheered him up enough that he could smile.
Nodding his head in thanks when she placed the plate in front of him he slowly began to eat his meal. As she told him about their plans he started to plot things out for himself as well. This would actually work to his advantage some also.
His half-brother had demanded his attendance home at least on some days, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity. His family was also sure to have coffee. Just the word made him drool. Taking a bite of his food, he smiled at her.
“This is very good.” He pointed at the food. “Do not worry, I do not mind. Brother wants me to come home for a little while, so I have things I need to do.” . He would just come back around supper time.

Eva smiled, eyes crinkling tiredly around the edges. "I'm glad you enjoy it. It's always nice to have someone who appreciates a home-cooked meal. I hope you have a good time with your family, then. Once you're done, just leave the plate where it is and I'll take care of it. When the sun starts to set, you'll know it's okay to come back. We need the light of day to practice."
She finished her glass of water and snagged Mick's plate before he could scoot it out of the room altogether. His furless, skinless tail wagged happily and he pranced around the kitchen floor, the hard wood making his nails especially loud so early. "Thanks mom! Good food! Bye Aderlass! Give your brother a kick in the pants for me!" With that, he skittered out of the room and down the hallway at full-speed, slamming into the wall at the end and righting himself quickly.
The dishes were cleared away and the kitchen mess cleaned out, and the feline gave Aderlass a tired smile. "It's about that time, I think."

Heading out once again into the cold, bundled up in his cloak Juris at his side, he headed back towards his home. He was not really looking forward to the encounter and he had been lucky the other day. As soon as he had been able to with finishing school he had headed off to train under a master in the art of jewel crafting and metal working. Soon after that he had left Morganberry all together with higher goals.
He was confused as to why his half brother wanted his presence back here, especially during the holidays. He had thought he had made it clear to his family that he wanted nothing to do with them – though he was guessing that the message had never been relayed to his brother.
On his way he came across a small store that Mick and he used to go to, the old lady, well old crow to be more precise, who worked there, would give them candy. It was a store that sold knick knacks and the like. Going on an instinct he saw that the shop was opened. Looking at this Tove he decided he would go in and see what had changed. He owed the lady that much after all she had done for them two.

A small bell above the door jingled cheerily, seeming to fit the crisp, clear morning. It was warm inside, a large fireplace oven near the back doing double-duty by warming the store and baking several mouth-watering pastries. The current batch looked like honey-glazed doughnuts and the smell was absolutely incredible.
An old crow, her back stooped with age and wings held back separately from her bipedal arms, was busy fiddling with trays behind the counter. She looked up at the sound and smiled beakily, her expression quite pleasant. "Hello there, young sir! How might I help you this morning? You're almost in time for our first batch of early-riser pastries, if you can spare a few minutes. In fact, I can just-"
She paused, squinting at him a bit more closely. Mouse... horns... gloves...
Her eyes widened and she let out a caw of surprise. "Little Aderlass? Is that really you?! Coor, boy, how you've grown! Just look at you! Oh, my, I can barely believe it. Has so much time really passed? You look the right proper young man now!"
