Mmmyes. that was a good reaction. She could tell the kid was full of questions and curiosity and a genuinely fascinated student was much more fun than one with a "can't look away from a train wreck" kind of curiosity.
"I am very curious as to what they teach you about our region, though," she wondered out loud, wanting to know what misconceptions she would have to be correcting in the future, if not at this very moment with this child. "Though I will say, you're much more tolerate of the smell than most." Granted, it isn't nearly as powerful now as it was when she first left, now that she's been bathing nearly everyday and has been eating the food here, but she wasn't entirely sure why it just wouldn't go away.
"People will always stare, wonder and gawk at things that are different, whether they are fascinated or disgusted." Heilyn shrugged, "It'll always be that way.," she smiled at the kid, "But that's because everyone's so concerned with fitting into everyone else's expectations, so those of us that stick out gain so much attention."

"They don't teach much. They just say that it's a region that's filled with poisons, end of story." She shrugged. That was the only thing she cared to remember from the lecture. Stupid tutors and their ranting. Xiven would have rolled her eyes if she wasn't talking to Heilyn.
"I guess you're right. It's silly though. I bet you some of the most "normal" looking people are completely out of their heads. The real question should probably be, who isn't." Xiven blinked. Oh that actually came out of her mouth completely. That was the problem with being a kid sometimes. You forgot what you said out loud and what you said in your head. Mom always said be careful about that. She flicked her tail at the thought as she figured she might as well ask another question. "What do you actually want to do at courts. Like... what's your dream job?"

"Hm," was all her response was Xiven's answer. It wasn't filled with poisons. There are other things in there, too ya'nno. She was a small child, who knew how much of her lessons she disregarded? (How many had she when she was a child?) Heilyn reminded herself to find out what exactly what was being taught at a later time.
Then xiven said something that just tickled her. Children were just the most hilarious things sometime. 'Who isn't'?! A loud laughter came rather unexpectedly out of her. She quieted it immediately, stifling it to a controlled giggle. She put a paw up to her mouth as her shoulders shook from laughter. It took her a few moments to stop laughing.
"Very true statement, there, kiddo," she said, not being condescending, "We must truly question by whose standards the definition of 'insane' is derived. I mean, if you think about it, anything that isn't a number or measurement is entirely subjective."
Heilyn went into using slightly larger words without really realizing it. Her ear twitched when she did, hopng the child would understand what she just said, or at least get the gist. then she blinked. Her dream job?
"All I wish is for them to find a good use for me soon. The home region really wants to be in contact with the Outside. There has even been been talk of fully assimilating with these courts and abandoning our autonomy. But it's all just talk. It would take a lot of work to completely over turn a system that's been in place almost since the Bog existed. I just want be there to make whatever happens a smooth of a transition as possible. I don't really even care if I make King or not, so long as a play a helpful role in the assistance of the Bog and my Court." She'd almost forgotten to include the Court of Hearts, fortunately, she didn't pause before she said it. She would never say it out loud here, but she held far more loyalty for her home than she ever would for this place.
[jsgdhg, long post, sorry. xD ]

Xiven didn't get what was so funny about what she said. Grown ups were weird. But whatever suited her. She could laugh at whatever she liked, even if it hurt Xiven's ears a bit as she pinned them against her skull.
Big words. Damn. Xiven wasn't very good at that part of the conversation. She was still a bit young to grasp all of the political words that people used around the courts. It would take her quite some time to get all of them, she was sure.
But she did understand one thing.
"So.... if I ever became a Queen would you become one of my Kings?" She tilted her head. "I mean, I can't see someone not wanting you as a King. You're obviously smart and can deal with people. Which is saying a lot. Not everyone is socially inclined to deal with people."

"I'm sorry," she apologized as she saw Xiven's ears go back. Then Heilyn's own ears went up. Be... her King? Her smile faded, but not out of unhappiness, simply out of surprise. The smile soon came back. This was probably the most Heilyn had ever honestly and genuinely smiled at any given time.
"That is a long way off, and it's hard to say," Heilyn had to find out now if she was claimed as a Queen's King, if it was permanent. Damn this court and their rules. There would be quite a bit of adjusting from the way things were back home...
"However, I will keep your request in mind. If it's possible, and if things go well by the time you become a Queen, I would be honored to be your King." this kid was definitely smart enough to become a Queen, at least, if she survived long enough. Heilyn would be foolish to disregard this child. But she'd be just as much of a fool to make any promises. She kept her future open. Who knows? Xiven was just as likely to change her mind in the years to come.

Xiven gave a wicked grin, "Then I'll just have to become a Queen in this court and we'll see what happens." She nodded. She would be more determined than ever to reach her dream.
Her grin faded as she looked at the coyote. It was a very long way off wasn't it? She had a lot of work to do before she came close to being remotely capable of being a good Queen. However, she wasn't going to give up because it was hard. That was just silly now, wasn't it? Her ears flopped forward now that all the loud talking was done with. Her fluffy tail swayed from side to side as she almost bounced where she sat. The problem with being a child was random bursts of energy.
"I guess I should let you do your thing, if you're bored with talking to me. Little kid talk is tiring, I'm sure. But I want to ask you one more question. Why are all adults so weird?" She said, completely serious. She didn't expect an actual answer, she just wanted to ask the question at least.

Actually, Heilyn was not completely bored. She enjoyed the child very much. However, she was feeling as though this conversation was coming to a swift close. She laughed, though not as loudly as before, at Xiven's newest inquiry.
"Ah, well, I suppose we adults do quite a few things that may seem awfully strange to you, huh? It's hard to explain, really. I wish I could for you. When you grow up you'll be a part of our insanity, but I still can't guarantee you'll get it," she gave a wink. When the girl grew up, she would understand exactly what that statement meant, too.
"Have fun exploring, Xiven. I hope to see you around again." And with that, Heilyn stalked off chuckling to herself.

Okay. That sounded like a pretty adult thing to say. Whatever worked for the coyote then. The cat shrugged and gave a mew. "Good-bye and thank you, Heilyn!" she called after the coyote as she stalked off.
Now what?
She looked down the corridor where she had been heading. Maybe she could bother some of the bigger kids or something? No, they probably wouldn't be awake either. With a disgruntled pout she stood up and started heading down the hall. To find something to do.
Heilyn was an interesting lady. Well, that was putting it pretty simply. Xiven was terribly happy that she had gotten along with an adult. Maybe she could somehow find a way to communicate better now that she found out she could hold an actual conversation with someone older.
But... that would have to wait until the sane hours of the morning to contemplate. The cat simply skipped down the hall in search of new pray until then.
