Rosemary pranced ahead of her brother and sister. She had no idea why they were lagging behind when they were the ones who wanted to come with her. "People are staring," Sage almost whimpered as she played with her hands underneath her sleeves. She had wanted to see outside the Wood, yes, but she didn't expect so many people in one area. Why had Dad agreed to this? How Mom had agreed with any of this at all she had no idea. All the looks, they were so unnerving. She could swear that people were staring at her and Parsley. "They are, but it's not like their touching. If they do, you know I have acid in my necklace," Parsley said as he nudge his worried sister. He was extremely excited about all of this, even if some people were giving him weird looks. "Hey, Rose, where were you planning on going today?""Not sure. With you two tagging along I can't do the sketchy stuff I normally do," she stuck her tongue out, in part to show off her piercing. Parsley wrinkled his nose at her before sticking his tongue out in retaliation. Sage made another worried noise at the people staring. This was going to be a long day.

Thalia was in the process of sneaking away from Mama. It was never terribly difficult, especially when Mom was away at Court and Mama had full responsibility. Mama seldom knew what to do with responsibility, except pretend it didn't exist. And when Thalia and Mama were finally forced to leave the house for food, lest they starve to death, Mama had become so fixated on the tasty treats that abounded in the City that Thalia, as something inedible, slipped her notice entirely. There were a good four blocks between her and Mama now, and it would probably take another hour for Mama to even notice she was gone, let alone actually find her. Sweet, sweet freedom was hers. That was when she spotted a very odd band of children strolling down the street. One was a Corvistowne, but the others...looked to be from the Woods. Thalia had never seen anyone from the Woods. Only heard strange stories from other kids. She began to follow them, curiously--though not exactly quietly. She couldn't seem to go anywhere without making a good deal of noise; she just...occupied a lot of space. She gave up the ruse entirely when the flowerpots came crashing down, terra cotta doom raining from the sky and shattering around her. She glared at a tentacle, and tried to brush the dust of destroyed pots off her. Damn it.

All three of the children turned around, wide eyed at the crashing sound. Sage made very sure to hide behind her brother as Rosemary moved forward curiously.
She took in the image of a girl with tentacles and bright colors. Well she was rather adorable wasn't she, trying to hide like that? "Hey! You okay there?" The wolf-squirrel used her tail to brush a bit of dust out of the other's mane. Why did everyone have crazy mutations but her? Geeze. "What were you up to behind the flower pots?"
Parsley nudge Sage to back up a bit. At this point she would step on his tail or something. She shouldn't be that paranoid of strangers! "If she's anything like you Rose, she was spying on us. Rather loudly." He choked back a snort as he watched Sage's tail puff up ever so slightly.
"Oh?" Rosemary grinned a bit as she looked at the girl. "Would you like to join us in a day out Miss Whoever You Are? I'm Rosemary, the Fairy-Winged Squirrel is my brother Parsley and the paranoid biped wolf-squirrel is my sister Sage. It's nice to meet you."
"I'm not paranoid..." Sage said quietly, even if Parsley and Rosemary were ignoring her she had a right to express her opinion.

Thalia tried to compose herself and look cool; tripped on a broken pot; and as a last-ditch effort to retain something vaguely resembling dignity, glared at the pots as though they had violently and rudely attacked her without provocation, as though to say, Those bothersome wayward pots, always falling on people.
"Um, yeah. I was...I was following you. A little bit." The words had blurted themselves out before her brain could even conceive of thinking of a lie. Oh well. They appeared welcoming anyway. Well, except for the quiet bipedal identified as Sage, who was hiding. Thalia did not quite know how to deal with shyness or any of its social siblings; most of the awkwardness she had encountered was outgoing awkwardness. Though they were all named after things Mom cooked with, which made her feel slightly more at ease, oddly. "Nice to meet you all too. I'm Thalia. And I'd love to come along. Where are you going?"

"Nice to meet you too," Rosemary said with a wide grin. Flower pots or not, this person was interesting. "As for places to go... well you see it it's Sage's first time outside the Wood, and Parsley's first time in the city."
"She has no idea where to go, in other words," Parsley interjected. He often corrected Rosemary when she was trying her hardest to act "cool."
"Right right," Rosemary said with a wave of her paw. "But I can think of something, want to catch a quick bite to eat before we find something to do, Thalia?" Wasn't that the name of one of the muses? Comedy wasn't it? Classical literature wasn't her specialty but she had bothered her Dad about it more than once. It was a very pretty name either way.
Sage continued to fidget in the background, her tail twitching as she played with her hands inside of her sleeves. The girl seemed nice, but what had she been following them? And what did Rosemary mean by grab a quick bite to eat?

Thalia was always up for a bite to eat. Her choices were usually a bit limited, if she didn't want her throat to swell or her skin to burst into unpleasant rashes, but there was usually something to be found that she could devour. If Mom and Mama occasionally tried to poison her with chocolate, Sister typically had things in another room that she could eat without fear. And she knew a couple places about town with more than adequate fare; they could just have to keep out of the area where Mama might be lurking.
"I know of a couple little places to snack," she said. They reminded her a bit of her own siblings when thrown into a large group, poking at one another, except they didn't seem quite so dangerously insane. Well, so far. Sage might well be plotting evil; it was always the quiet ones, Mama said. Quiet ones from the Woods, even. Thalia hoped she would try something devious. That she knew how to deal with. Trouble. "Oh! There is a bakery nearby. You all like sweets, yes? They have lots of tasty treats."

Sage's ears perked at the mention of sweets. A bakery? She had never been to a bakery before. Maybe this girl wasn't as dangerous as she first thought? But then again this was still Outside the Wood. She couldn't be sure of anything out here.
Parsley looked to Rosemary, "Well, I suppose it wouldn't kill us if we didn't have a proper meal, and Sage isn't about to complain. Do you know where the bakery is since you're here so much?"
The wolf shrugged, "There are plenty of bakeries around here aren't there?" Not like she had to worry about getting lost. As long as she knew where she wanted to go, she would get there. However, why trust her amazing sense of direction when there was someone she could talk to while they were on their way? "It looks like we'll head to the bakery! You want to lead the way or should I?"

"I can take us there. Not too far to walk." Thalia settled quite easily into the role of tour-guide, though apparently Rosemary seemed to know her way around. Maybe she should point things out for the benefit of Sage and Parsley: and this is where vagrants like to throw their trash; this is where this one guy got knifed for stealing someone's girl, see where the blood has stained the pavement ever-so-faintly; this is the shop where stupid Thalia broke her nose again because she forgot to check to see if there was a door there.
"Though if you see this woman, right, with black hair and mismatched socks and goggles, warn me, okay? 'Cause she's a dangerous crazy lady, and we don't wanna have to deal with her." It was easy to get that one out, because it was the truth. She glanced over at Parsley and Sage. First time in the City, first time out of the Woods. Interesting. "What brings you here, anyway?"

"Aw~some," Rosemary said with a skip in her step. It was a good thing she had gotten used to her piercings so quickly. Otherwise she would have sounded a bit like an idiot and far less cheery. She hummed to herself as they walked listening to the various "nice" places that Thalia so kindly pointed out. She was horribly amused when she glanced to see Sage's tail puffed out. Parsley was taking it rather well, then again he seemed to be checking out the various store windows.
Parsley's ears twitched at the description of the woman. "It sounds like the way most people describe Corvies," he said looking at Thalia. "Anyway, there are a lot of things worse than crazy people."
The question made Rosemary choke on a bit of a giggle as they were closing in on the bakery. Thalia was actually trying to talk directly to Sage, this was going to be terribly amusing.
"I wanted to know if the city was really as interesting as Rose said it was," Parsley said absently.
Sage wasn't quite sure what to say. She was still terrified of all of this. "I-I just wanted to see what other people were like I guess."

Thalia carried on cheerily, perked up by the fact that Sage was talking, however hesitantly: "People suck, mostly, but you get used to them, and some of them are really nice, like Sister-Mother. Always fun, anyway." She turned that last corner; the bakery was right down the sidewalk. She glanced over her shoulder at Parsley. "Crazy lady is my mama. She's a Corvie. Mom says it's why I'm touched in the head. But I think it's Mom's genes, personally. They're tainted with evil."
And here was the bakery, in all its charming glory. It smelled amazing, like bread and flour and creamy fruit filling and heaven. Inside, the man behind the counter was putting pastries in a baggie for a bedraggled looking older woman. Thalia extended a tentacle. Door there. She pushed, and walked in, holding the door open for the other three.
