"Oh..." Sage said wide eyed as she continued to walk behind her siblings and Thalia. That was horribly depressing for her first trip outside of the Wood. And also terrifying. She shudder a bit as she played with her sleeves absently.
"Well, you have an interesting family to say the least," Parsley grinned. It was nice to know that they weren't the only family with "interesting" people in it.
Rosemary hop skipped when she smelt the baked goods, and was rather surprised when one of Thalia's tentacles opened the door. Must he useful having those things. She trotted in after her giving a "Thank you" as she passed. The other siblings did the same, only Sage's was barely audible.
The wolf-squirrel bounced on her feet. She had completely forgotten how nice some of the bakeries were around here. Eying the various shelves her eyes stopped when they hit a batch of half black and half white cookies. Well, they were more like small cakes, but the label said they were black and white cookies. Whatever worked.
She waited until the old lady was finished before speaking up. "Hey, Mr. Can I get a half dozen of those black and white cookies?"

[OOC: Terribly sorry about the delay, Kari. I had somehow convinced myself that it was your turn. I'm not sure how I managed it. I need a new pilot for my brainship, clearly.]
The man behind the counter cheerfully obliged her. Thalia wondered what was in the cookies. Eh, well, perhaps she could inquire later. She concentrated on keeping her all limbs in one place--she didn't want to steal in front of her new friends, at least not yet--and asked for apple strudel.
"Yeah," she said. "They're all a bunch of weirdos, actually." Especially the gaggle of half-siblings. She had no idea what had gone wrong there. Probably some kind of irreparable damage on a genetic level.
A thought hit her as she took a bite of the pastry. She barely finished chewing and swallowing before enthusiastically blurting out, "Hey! You guys wanna come see Mama's lab while she's out of the house? She has all kinds of crazy stuff in there to play with. The neighborhood's really fun, too. We have a gang!"

Sage perked up a bit when her sister handed her the box of cookies as Rosemary paid for them. Being the good sister she was she opened the box and presented her brother with a cookie, and then Rosemary.
Both of them were throughly jealous of her having hands. However, Parsley snapped back to attention as soon as he heard the word "lab." Rosemary perked up at the last bit of the statement. Getting into trouble might be interesting.
"We would love to see it," Parsley said with a wicked grin after completely eating his cookie in less than two minutes. Seeing a Corvie's lab was too exciting to pass up. He wanted to hug Thalia, but that would be awkward. Not many people enjoyed having their personal space invaded upon a first meeting. He wasn't going to take a chance.
Rosemary's tail was wagging as she continued to inhale her cookie. Sage decided to remain quiet in the background.

This was fine news indeed. Dinkering around in Mama's lab was always a pleasure--when she could get in there, anyway. Mama tended to hole herself up in there more often than not, and she was awfully unkind about her wandering in, even though she was part Corvie, too, and thus had a natural birthright to blow shit up. For some reason that logic had never flown with Mama.
Thalia finished up her pastry, licking the last of the apple gore off her paws. "Okay then!" she announced. "Grab what's left of your snackies and come with me."
She hoped that the trio was familiar with slums and wasn't alarmed by them. Thalia had asked once or twice why they had never moved to a nice neighborhood, what with Mom's position and mysterious outside enterprise and Mama's mysterious source of income, they could certainly afford it. But apparently living in a terrible area meant they blended in more and if having the house broken into every once in a while was the price they had to pay, then so be it.

Sage obediently held the remainder of the cookies as the were led down the path to Thalia's house. Her tail was puffed out to the point where it was obvious she was uncomfortable with the surroundings. Even the few nudges from Rosemary didn't seem to calm her down.
Parsley was in his own world as he trotted behind Thalia. He actually got to see someone's proper lab! It may not be a mechanical Corvistowneian, but that didn't matter. It was a lab that had nothing to do with his father's workshop. He never really did know what a proper one looked like. If he was a skipper he would have skipped. However, he wasn't about to support people's thoughts that he was a girl. No thank you.
Rosemary was happily trotting alongside her sister. The neighborhood didn't bother her one bit. "Interesting place to live. I always envied people who got to live in apartments. I think it's much more exciting."

"It is," she said. "We've pretty much taken over the entire complex, though we live mostly on the top floors. There are a couple of lurkers, but mostly the other tenants kind of just got terrified and fled a long time ago. Or so Mom says." Personally, she was half-convinced that Mama had kidnapped them and imprisoned them in the lab for experimentation, but that was so long ago in the past that Thalia could not produce evidence.
She noticed, finally, the massive bottlebrush of Sage's tail. One of these days, she thought, she was going to develop effective people skills in order to deal with situations like this. She smiled in what she hoped was a reassuring manner; she would feel bad having fun in he lab with Parsley and Rosemary if Sage was just going to quiver in fear and probably hate them all and wish they were dead. Awkwardly, she said, "We also have tea. Um. Very good tea."

"An entire complex to yourself? Well that's amazing. I imagine it's a lot bigger than our house, I can't wait to see how much lab space there is." Parsley said cheerfully.
Then Thalia made mention of Sage, and both Rosemary and Parsley turned their attention to their sister. She gave Thalia a confused look before she turned back to see her own tail was bigger than a powder puff. Balancing the box of remaining cookies she brushed down her tail with one hand. "T-thank you. I'm not really fond of tea but... thank you."
"Everything'll be fine, Sage," Rosemary said cheerfully as she trotted besides her sister. "And if you want to be a big singer and all of that you're going to have to get used to people and places that are new." She would have patted her sister, but she still seemed a bit to tense not to jump at a touch.

Thalia brightened at Rosemary's words. That Sage had some kind of ambition--and one she could sort of relate to--was heartening, and made her feel like slightly less of a twit when dealing with the wolfy-squirrel. Quite suddenly, she also wanted very much to actually hear her sing. She wondered if her voice did weird things to people's brains, like Mom's did.
"Most of the upper levels are dedicated to the lab," she said, "though Mom gets the roof for her garden. I'm not even sure how to get up to the roof, exactly."
They were finally at the apartment. Large, foreboarding building, likely only held together by moss and ivy and grime. No one could ever really be bothered with upkeep.
"Here we are," she announced. She could see the welcoming expanse of cracked, tacky hallway tile. The front door was usually left closed but unlocked. She pushed it open gently. "We'll, uh, need to go up a few flights of stairs to get to the lab level." And take some strange twists and turns at various points. Gods, she hoped Mama wasn't home yet. She smiled at Sage. "Do you want to sing us something as we go up?"

The upper levels! Which probably meant more than one floor dedicated to experiments! I didn't matter if it wasn't something he was completely interested in--it was cool anyway. The apartment complex seemed to fit the description that Dad gave of most of the houses in Corvistowne too. Not many people were concerned with the upkeep of outer appearances. He happily made his way inside when Thalia allowed them through.
Rosemary grinned. Apparently singing was common ground for Thalia--and it would prevent Sage from freaking out any further. She remained silent as she moved inside, following her brother.
Sage blushed. The cat was out of the bag, but at least it wasn't a big deal or anything. She ignored her nerves and the fact that she was walking into a run down building and sang the first thing that came to her mind.
"Honestly what will become of me? Don't like reality. It's way too clear to me, But really life is dandy. We are what we don't see. Missed everything daydreaming.
Flames to dust... Lovers to friends... Why do all good things come to an end? Flames to dust... Lovers to friends... Why do all good things come to an end?"
She stopped. That was a terribly depressing song. "Uh... I hope that's all right? Should I stop?"
