Parvana shrunk abruptly when the King approached, her wings fluttering heavily with anxiety despite her best attempts to calm herself. Oh lord, why did she get herself into this? She should have stayed back at home, or at least closer to home. Something... Something not this. Faolin nuzzled up against her leg, chittering softly with concern until the Queen's words sunk in.
She didn't sound angry and, to Parvana's relief, she she was asking for tea.
Right about now, tea would be really nice.
"Thank you, Your Majesty, tea would be lovely." She glanced nervously back at Osias, shuddering a little despite herself. If Lysaras kept him around, Parvana could assume that Osias wasn't all bad, but he had startled her something awful with his erratic emotions.
Maybe he was sick? She'd seen spats of illnesses about -- had even suffered with one for a bit -- maybe that was it? Either way that was no longer of real importance, Osias was elsewhere and she was walking with The Queen of Spades to get tea. The thought caused the young ten to flush a little, her wings fluttering. Of all places to end up!

Lysaras patted the Butterfly gently on the shoulders above her wings, trying not to stare...an insect she hadn't been able to take it in while Osias had been an immediate threat...though she didn't think he wold have really done anything... But how exciting! A butterfly...a real one.
"Glad to hear it, come with me, the kitchens are just downstairs."
She smiled reassuringly to the girl...such beautiful little wings she had too...not just the ones on her shoulders but...gently cresting from her head...feathery. She wagged her tail lightly too, trying to make the girl feel comfortable.
"Might I ask why you've come to the Court of Spades? Are you perhaps thinking of staying? We could use some help and we have plenty of room if you're interested."
She hoped the girl would stay, actually...the new Jack, Wulfram, was already quite a help...but he liked to wander...and she needed some more personal help. Turning the corner, they came upon a slope in the hallway that twisted slowly downward. Soon they had arrived at the kitchen entrance, and Lysaras poked her head in the double doors. Smiling she motioned over one of the cooks, a thin Josiggy Owl, and whispering to her for a few seconds. The owl grinned lightly, and nodded heading back into the kithen depths to fetch a tea tray.
The Queen then turned and led the way a bit further on. They would soon come to a private room, small and well decorated, with a few soft chairs and poufs.
"Have a seat, my dear, the tea will be in soon."

Parvana's wings fluttered absently, pleased by the feeling of Lysaras's gently pat. Most people had to crow about her breed right away or asked to touch her wings or other such things, and she was thankful that the Queen seemed more concerned about her as a person than her as a Butterfly.
She, of course, expected questions at some point and found that when the time and place was right, she enjoyed the answering the questions and receiving the attention.
For now, however, she was more intent on the Palace around her and The Queen beside her to think of much anything else. Lysaras seemed quite wonderful already. And, O! To stay and work at the Court of Spades? The butterfly's wings fluttered again as she thought, excited and anxious all at once. Could she really make it in the Courts? Vana flushed slightly and settled into the chair as directed before answering.
"I, actually, was just looking around. I've never seen the Palace up close and since I couldn't sleep, I thought it'd be a good, quiet time to visit." Her wings folded back neatly, coming to a calm resting stance as her anxiety dwindled into peaceful content. "I've thought about joining the Courts on many occasions. It seems so interesting." She tilted her head to the side, smiling up at Lysaras. "What's it like, if I wouldn't be too forward as to ask?"
She was only a lowly 10, but maybe... Maybe if The Queen needed a helping hand around the Palace then perhaps she could stay until she was ready to face the King to gain her Jack...

Lysaras seated herself on a high-backed chair with a sigh and smiled encouragingly to the Butterfly to do the same.
"Heh, it usually is a good time to visit, I'm terribly sorry that you had issue with Osias...he's been a bit off lately, I believe he must be ill... As it is, I'm glad to hear that you still have interest, and no, my dear. It's not too forward of you to ask, how else would you see if it was to your liking?"
She smiled, wondering where to begin when the Owl reappeared, pushing a stainless steel trolley into the room, giving the Queen a wink, and smiling to the Butterfly.
"Here you are your Majesty, some Tulgey Red, should help keep you two up for a bit. Brought some cream too, for the flapjacks though."
She left the cart near them and quickly whipped up two plates of steaming pancakes, quickly topping them with some melted butter and honey. With a small, hooting laugh, she handed the plates to the women and then hefted the actual tea tray onto a small wooden table.
"Thank you, Maureen. I really appreciate it, especially this late."
"No trouble at all, take care your Majesty, and you too, darling."
With a swish, the Owl was gone.
Lysaras poured herself a cup of tea and raised an eyebrow inquiringly, a grin still planted on her face.
"Do you take sugar? Anyway, palace life is fun enough if you can balance the work and the niceties of living in such a place. I'm rather fond of it, though I do advise you not to get too involved in political or personal affairs of other Courts...they can be very cruel, as I've found. Anyway, most of the work here is easy enough to split up amongst ourselves and we have methods of entertainment...have you ever attended a gala?"
She asked, handing Parvana her tea.

Parvana paused when the Owl entered the room and perked her head up with quiet curiousity. She had expected tea, but the smell of warm food caught her off guard. Had Lysaras really gone through the trouble of preparing it for her? She smiled back at the Owl, dipping her head briefly in thanks, and waited until she had slipped out to directly address the Queen.
"I don't know how to thank you enough, Your Majesty. You've been so very kind."
Being in front of The Queen of Spades left Parvana's nerves singing with her shyness but she was silently thankful that her smile nor her voice appeared to have betrayed her yet.
"Sugar would be lovely." She accepted the cup offered to her and took to sipping the warm liquid as she gathered her thoughts. "No, I would imagine the politicial aspects would be unpleasant. There's always such competition for it. But o! A gala? I'm afraid I haven't." O! How hard it was to tell this wonderful woman that she had only just recently been allowed to leave her home, let alone attend festivities such as a Gala but Parvana wasn't about to sugarcoat the truth. "I would so love to attend one someday, though."

"Not at all, my kitchen staff have done the work, not me. And I know they were happy to."
Lysaras turned her face to the side, smiling, looking slightly flushed. Compliments were always unexpected and fully welcome....especially from beautiful young women...it was just so endearing.
She added sugar to the girl's cup and handed it to her, sipping at her own and doing her best not to wolf her flapjacks...her cooking staff knew her too well.
"Haven't you? Well, I must insist that you attend one soon. The next one we have, consider yourself officially invited, Parvana."
She watched the girl smile...really, she did look like she would be a lovely help...and such a wonderful ambassador at the least.
"You know, my dear. I really am in need of a personal assistant...would you be at all considering working here? I could easily employ you as a Ten until you found the time to become a Jack."
She flushed a little, glad that her dark fur hid most of the effect, such a beautiful girl, she couldn't help but wonder what her Bipedal form would look like...

(Greenie: You're welcome to join with Vessa once they leave the room, as Nat said. ^^)
When The Queen turned away with that sweetly flushed look on her face, Parvana found herself smiling a little in surprise. Lysaras really was...rather cute like that, wasn't she?
The thought was quickly flushed out by her own surprise at it and Parvana quickly distracted herself by sampling the flapjacks that had been served up for them. "I'll have to send my thanks to your kitchen staff then, their flapjacks are wonderful." The tea and the flapjacks alike were delightful and Vana was immensely thankful that she could enjoy them with Lysaras.
The invitation to the next gala caught Parvana off guard, but it was the offer for a job as Lysaras's personal assistant that truly brought her up short and swiftly consumed her thoughts. How could she possibly say no?
"O! Do you really?" She bowed her head briefly before lifting her gaze back to Lysaras's own, beaming happily. "That'd be such a wonderful opportunity and I'd love to work as your personal assistant, Your Majesty!" Not only would it give her a taste of life in the Court but it'd give her a chance to get to know Lysaras better. "Thank you again, Your Majesty. You've been so very generous."

"They'll be glad to hear it, vain things they are."
Lysaras chuckled softly, her tongue lolling for a moment happily before she pulled it back in. This girl was perfect, cheerful, smart, and to the point. Now if only she turned out to be just as good with helping Lysaras wade through her paperwork...she would have to stay.
The look on Parvana's face when the Queen invited her to the gala, and then to stay, was priceless, she couldn't have hoped for more, smiling as she finished her flapjacks. Waiting for the girl to do the same before continuing.
"I'm delighted to hear it, my dear. I really am in need of some help and my Jacks are busy with other things that are equally important...I'm so glad to hear it, please, come with me and we'll get you a room."
Standing she held the door open, feeling very much refreshed and moving off down the hallway with the pretty Corvie in tow.

Parvana eagerly finished her flapjacks, quietly delighted by the meal and musing at how it compared to Anatolius's usual cooking. He was good but not quite this good. She'd have to bring him the recipe sometime...
When Lysaras spoke up again, Parvana returned her full attention to The Queen and smiled happily despite the faint flush to her cheeks. Lysaras was really that happy to have her assistance? It was just...so baffling, but wonderful at the same time.
"I'm very happy to help, Your Majesty. I'll do everything I can to help you out." With a polite but cheerful nod, Parvana followed the lovely canine out into the hall. She had to all but bite her tongue to keep from thanking The Queen again but she truly was so thankful for all the woman's kindness and just...everything. "May I ask, what all will I be doing for you?" She paused for a moment, thinking on something before continuing. "O, and...Will I be able to continue working for you even once I'm a Jack or will I be giving other duties?"
