Vessatha strode down the hallway towards the Queen's quarters, her lack of attention to her surroundings clearly written on her face. She was preoccupied, that was for sure; not one, but three cooks decided to up and quit today (one found a hoity toity restaurant that he proclaimed was better than any Court, one eloped with what she dubbed 'a hot piece of sexy highlander' and the third.. well, they weren't sure what happened to the third, but did it really matter at that point?), a maid got bumped down the stairs and was currently sitting unconcious in the infirmary, and bloody hell if her head wasn't about to burst. On top of all of that, she had to go talk to Queen Lysaras about her personal maids; there'd been some scuttlebutt that one had been rifling through her things, and if it was true, there was going to be a smackdown coming, because Vessatha didn't tolerate that in her own home, and certainly wouldn't tolerate it in her Queen's home. She rounded the corner in the hallway and because she'd been looking down she almost didn't notice the pair in front of her--she would have collided, but managed to stop a few inches away and the ferret backed up quickly. "Oh, apologies, I'm afraid I'm rather distracted at the moment, sorry to interrupt." She paused to rub at her forehead--at this rate, she would have to seek out some type of horrid, disgusting tea to try to rid herself of the pain. She sighed, then looked up, and quickly bowed to Lysaras, "Your Majesty," then paused as she remembered there had been a second person. She turned to Parvana, curiosity evident on her face, and said, "And..?" in a polite, questioning tone. It wasn't that she had any prejudice against the girl, it was just that Vessatha knew all the servants. All the servants. So that meant this girl was not a servant, but as a 10 she wasn't a diplomat.. so Vessatha was very, very curious.

"I'm delighted to hear it, and of course you may. I'll be needing help with documentation, passing messages, and going on diplomatic entourages. Not too terribly much, but you would be surprised at how quickly it can all bury you."
She smiled again, Parvana was so eager to assist...she was growing more and more certain by the minute that this was the right thing to do.
"Once you are a Jack, that will be your decision and yours alone, you may want to move onto other tasks by then, but, forestalling any horrific circumstances that I certainly don't see happening, I would be delighted to have you stay on as my assistant."
She rounded the corner and nearly ran into a tall slender Ferret.
"Oh! Vessatha! I'm sorry, I didn't see you, how can I help you? Ah, this is my personal assistant, Parvanna. Can we walk as we talk, Vessatha? I need to get Parvanna the key to her room."
She gestured down the corridor and then moved off again, leading them to the fourth floor, the walls lined with soft green sandstone, arches cut into the shape of Spades every few feet.
She finally stopped at a thick, brown door adn opened it, gesturing them in behind her. Inside was a large glass wall, and behind it, were rows upon rows of keys.
Laying her hands gently on the glass, Lysaras murmured something under her breath, and the glass vanished. Reaching forward, she gently unhooked a key labled 4th floor, 22. It was made of pure ebony, with a small emerald set in the hilt, turning she handed it to Parvanna, the instant she stepped back, the glass reappeared.
"There you are, my dear. Room twenty-two. It's right this way, follow me."

Parvana walked with a cheerful bounce in her step, eyes shining happily. Lysaras was a pleasure to be around and she was enjoying herself quite thoroughly. Coming to the palace this evening had been a better plan than she had ever expected!
"Oh, I imagine so. Paper work can be so bothersome, but I'd be more than glad to help." She paused slightly, nodding to The Queen's commentary on her becoming a Jack. That would be nice. "I'd love to stay on as your assistant, Your Majesty. Especially if you need the help."
She rounded the corner with Lysaras and, abruptly, there was a ferret in their way. Vana jumped a little, wings fluttering in surprise before she calmed and tilted her head. Oh, she apparently worked here?
"Oh, Vessatha is it? It's a pleasure, then." She flashed a cheerful smile up at the bipedal ferret, quietly wishing she had her own bipedal form. It'd make things so much easier...
As Lysaras lead them away down the hall, Vana followed eagerly after her, excited at the thought of getting her own Key. Lysaras truly was a generous woman and Vana was already excited to help. When the woman fetched her key, Vana's eyes lit up at the way the glass vanished beneath the wolf's hands and then once they fell upon her key. It was lovely, really.
"Thank you, Your Majesty." She bowed her head quickly and followed politely after her once more.

Vessatha started to nod at Lysaras' words when the implication hit her--personal assistant? What? This must have been a recent development (more like "a few scant seconds ago without time for a servant to hear, run down the hallway, and inform Vessatha") because the ferret knew nothing about it, and it was difficult to keep gossipy secrets from Vessatha. It wasn't her fault she was damned well near omnipotent when it came to the hush-hush, she just found things out!
"Nice to meet you, Parvana," She replied, and held out a hand to the butterfly. "I'm Vessatha, yes. I oversee the servants, so I imagine we'll come into contact quite a bit." The ferret smiled at her, then turned her attention back to Lysaras to respond.
"Yes, that's fine," The ferret replied calmly, purposefully keeping her stress level at bay. If she was going to explode on someone, it really wasn't best for it to be the Queen. "I was... informed... that there's been a problem with one of your maids," She began somewhat wryly, as Lysaras knew who the ferrets sources were, "I just need to confirm whether or not she's been a problem, so I can deal with it." She paused, and a somewhat pained expression came onto her face. "Also.. there's a problem down in the kitchens. A big problem. Basically, if you want more than a ham sandwich for dinner, Varestes is going to have to cook it for you, because there's only one cook available, and, well. He's the one that managed to burn chicken noodle soup." Her tone easily conveyed exactly what she thought of that particular canine.
At that point they had reached the key room. Vessatha had only been in it once or twice, when there had been a mishap with some of the servant's rooms involving stolen and lost keys.. so it was interesting for her to watch as well. She stayed in the background as the Queen gave the key to Parvana, and continued after them as they began walking once more.

Lysaras smiled and nodded, walking further down the hall and stopping in front of the twenty-second door.
"Yes, I am in need of the help, Vessatha can tell you how badly off I can be when I get overloaded." She said with a small rueful laugh, the Ferret certainly did know...watching her Queen have a meltdown twice in one week couldn't have been fun.
She turned to the Ferret, somewhat startled at the information. Her ears stood up a little with bewilderment.
"Ah...Wren? She's not a problem just clumsy...though I've been made aware that Brindle doesn't like her so, if that was your source....Brindle's just never been anything but a really straight Josiggy...she despises Sorgaires along with the Lowlanders...ye gads the fights I've had with her over Osias... You know...maybe Brindle is really the one we should talk about sometime...see if we can spare her at all, will you, dear?"
She reached the door and pulled it open, stepping inside and feeling on the wall for the light switch that the Corvies had installed in all the rooms for her when she had become Queen.
Flicking it on, she revealed Parvanna's room. Colored mostly in purples and blues, it had a dark oak desk and quite a few plush couches and chairs. Two doors in the back obviously led off to the bedroom and bathroom, and there was a large window with purple curtains.
"There was are, Parvana. Is it to your liking?"
She asked with a smile, hoping it wouldn't be too dark for the girl.
"Ah...that is a problem, isn't it? The one who burned...not Melvin? Oh no...I haven't seen Varestes all day, I've no idea where he's gone...perhaps we could just cook? Or have sandwiches? It is Maureen's night off isn't it? Dear me, I'd completely forgotten..."

Parvana smiled warmly at Vessatha, dipping her head cordially as she walked. The ferret seemed nice enough and Vana was pleased that she'd get to know her better.
The woman's current business, what with the servants and rumors and missing chefs, mostly went over Parvana's head. She would learn more about the goings-on of the palace the longer she stayed, however, and made sure to file everything away for the time being. "I'm not an awful cook, actually, perhaps I could lend my assistance sometime?"
The butterfly smiled up at the two other females before peeking into the bedroom and taking a good look around. Instantly her eyes widened and she stepped forward a little. It was absolutely beautiful! Even her parents' old manor couldn't compare and it was definitely a lot cozier for Vana than that overly spacious place.
"It's perfect, Your Majesty. I couldn't have dreamed of anything better." Her wings fluttered happily and she beamed up at The Queen. "Thank you, again, for the work and the hospitality."

Vessatha merely shrugged a bit apologetically, not wishing to comment on the Queen's.. stability issues..? as of late, as it wasn't her place to say.
She listened carefully to Lysaras' words to make sure she wasn't missing any implications, and smiled a bit sardonically at the mention of Brindle. The girl really had some issues going on, to the point where all Vessatha wanted to do was lock her in a room and tell her if she didn't shut up about the damned Sorgaires, Lowlanders, and everything else she hated that Vessa was going to kick her out... but it would hardly be diplomatic, and would likely get her in trouble. Alas. "Yes, I think we do need to have a talk about Brindle.. she's getting a bit.. unruly?" The ferret paused and shrugged a bit. "As for Wren, I'll pull her aside and suggest she stay away from Brindle, I'm hardly going to get her in trouble because the girl hates her, despite what Brindle wants me to do."
At the room, Vessatha was the last to enter, and didn't go too far in the doorway. She made no comment on the rooms, as she'd seen ones like this various times, and Parvana needed a chance to look them over, of course.
Once Lysaras spoke to her again in such a horrified tone, all Vessie could do was try not to look too grim, and nod her assent. "Melvin." The Kahmdener brought a hand up to her forehead in memory of it--she couldn't help it, the man was just a horrible cook; Vessatha never would have hired him herself, but he'd been there before she'd arrived. "As much as I'd like to just make sandwiches, it might be a bit of a free-for-all in the kitchens.. only the suits know how long that will take to clean up.." She groaned a bit under her breath, then looked up as the butterfly spoke. "Only say such things in my presence if you are actually willing to spend the next ten hours of your life slaving away over a stove."
She narrowed her gaze at the Corvistownean, completely serious. "If you'd like to help, please, feel free, but feeding the entire palace is no easy feat, even if we do manage to find Varestes and.. enlist.. his cooperation." She stopped, and looked back up at Lysaras. "I should be able to send messages to some restaurants in the city and get temporary replacements until I can find some more permanent people.. but essentially, we're totally and completely screwed for today."
Vessatha was nothing if not blunt.

((Sorry guys, going to have to back out of this one. Lysaras would help Vessie to locate Varestes and send his reluctant ass off with her to cook something (toss something together) for dinner, while she settled the new girl in. She would see Vana as someone she could open up to and might even hint that she had lost a son due to the Queen of Hearts a few years ago. Probably gets a little teary eyed, even though she'll do her best to hide it.
After giving Vana a bit more in-depth view of what it is the Courts will be expecting her, she would thank her and invite her to come and speak with her any time...it's not often she can find someone she can trust... Then she would walk off, telling her to come to the kitchens whenever she was ready.))
