At Sascha's last statement, Calanthe stopped dead in her tracks. "You...you don't know what an apothecary is, do you Sascha?" She was a little peeved at the sudden turn of events, but she knew Sascha was only trying to help. Maybe instead he could take her to someone that could help her? She didn't want him thinking she was mad at him or that he was useless.
She knew she had to choose her words carefully, or else she might upset the boy. Looking at the sky, she could see it was getting later and later. "You know what? How about you take me to see some more sights today, and then maybe tomorrow you can take me to someone that can point me in the right direction. How does that sound to you? You've been so nice so far, and if you could do that for me, I would really appreciate it."

The young man's face fell noticeably when Calanthe spoke, his brows furrowing slightly in a clearly distressed manner. Great. Just great. Now she knew everything, and if the things his parents had told him were even remotely true, she would gut him like a fish and leave him out to dry. Stupid, stupid Sascha... "Wellllll.... No. Not really." those massive ears of his panned back, flattening slightly against his neck, and his brown eyes peered at her from between his bangs, fearful and hopeful all at once. "...you're not mad, right? I can probably find it, probably, if you just tell me what it is."
But then the woman had an even better idea! Sascha's ears twitched forward again and he peered at her. Then he began to nod, his head and neck bobbing eagerly the more he considered his options.
"Or... Yeah! Yeah! We can do that! It'd probably be better anyway, 'cause then I can ask my papa Bernard where the 'pothecary's at. So we can, you know. Find it." he laughed then, eyes closing with mirth, then leaned toward her, supporting his upper body on his wings where they had the bat-like thumbs. "So whatcha wanna see? There's a super-cool pond all filled up like fish back closer to the Court, if you like fish, and lotsa trees and foresty stuff on the way there."

Calanthe was glad to see Sascha's massive ears perk back up once he had admitted he didn't know where the Suits he was going. She was still a bit miffed, but the apothecary would just have to wait for the next day. It was her own lack of directions that landed her in this mess in the first place. At least Sascha seemed to come up with a decent solution to today's events. Cal smiled at the Jack after he rambled off his new idea.
"That sounds very nice! We mostly have lots of green stuff in the Gardens, so it'll be nice to see a pond full of fish! She wasn't sure why she was talking so simply all of a sudden. Maybe it was so that Sascha wouldn't get mixed up again, since she obviously had a bigger vocabulary. Then she thought of something that could help salvage what was left of the day while Sascha balanced on his thumbs.
"Do you also think you could show me some pretty flowers around the area of the Court? I work with flowers, and I didn't know if there were any here that I may not have seen back at home."

This was good! This was very good! The nice lady didn't seem to be too mad, and even better, she thought his plan was a good one! It was enough to make him bob his head a bit, the smile on his beak-mouth widening to the point where his mouth opened. He had to shake his head to get his bangs out of his eyes again, but then he looked happy and eager to show her, well... Everything that he could. That was just in Sascha's nature. He began to bound down the trail in his bizzare gait, somewhere between a bird's walking motion and a bat's skip-hop, little tail twitching with excitement.
He didn't even turn back to look at her when his barrage of words began anew, he just talked and hoped she was keeping close. "Green stuff? Like veggies and stuff? My parents tell me I should eat it all but I don't really like it very much at all. I really like meat, though, but that's cause I'm mostly Eagle, like my papa." there was a brief moment of silence and then the boy added in a small voice, speaking very rapidly: "But man oh man I really REALLY love oranges! Most of those kindsa citrusy-thingers, really, they're all so good! I think that's my other dad's fault. I don't have the nose like my brother Andrei or my half-brother Mikael or my half-sisters Rhiannon and Sorcha, but I am part fruit bat! Did you know bats are pretty hard to find? My family's a rarity!"
Sascha cheerfully lead them through the underbrush, chattering away about his family and occasionally glancing back at his companion. Every time he did, he'd beam at her before turning his attention back to the path. They were making good time. It wouldn't be too long before they reached the Palace.
"Flowers? Yeeeeah, I can show you flowers! I mean, I think the trees and grasses are pretty, too. That's what my papa says. 'By the Highland Hills!' They're all covered in grass and when the wind blows, it's all ripply. But the flowers at the court, well, they're amazing. Seriously, they'll blow your mind! Roses. Yeah, roses in every color ever. Some colors I've never seen in flowers before."

Calanthe was certainly glad to see that Sascha was back to his bouncy happy self again. She did prefer him this way, even if his rambling got on her nerves after awhile. She listened intently as they bounded along. As he kept on mentioning different family members, she began to wonder if she would meet any of them as they got closer to the Court.
She interjected herself a few times into his constant flow of words, for instance to clarify that her previously mentioned "green stuff" was in fact flowers and plants of every kind in the Gardens. Because, after all, it was called Yarrow Gardens for a reason. He should know that, but then again, he was just a boy, and he had so much to learn still.
Once he began to mention the flowers, particularly the roses, Cal's ears perked up to listen to what he had to say about them. She certainly did not want to interrupt while the boy talked about her passion. These roses did sound quite "amazing", as Sascha had put it. At the pace they were going, she would soon witness these magnificent flowers for herself. Her tail began to wag again at the thought of it.

The journey wouldn't be a quiet one, at the very least. As they made their way through the Highlands, Sascha was quick to point out every little detail and tell the canine everything he knew about it. It was exciting meeting someone new, and meeting someone new who was as good at listening as she was was even nicer. Often, people just got tired of it and snapped at him, even if they were as nice as Miss Calanthe was. He figured that he just talked too much.
But he didn't quite understand what was so bad about that. He had a lot of stories to share... And what was the point of having them if you weren't going to let other people hear them?
When they got closer to the pond, a skip-hop went into Sascha's step. "Look! We're almost there!"
As they crested another small hill, they would come into view of the Court of Hearts, shimmering and shining in the sun like the gaudy and beautiful place it was. But that wasn't what had Sascha's attention. No, he lead them to a pool of water just inside of the gates, flopping down beside it and staring into its depths. Occasionally, a fish would appear at the surface, its mouth wide and gaping as it looked to see if the strange people had brought food. Every time this happened, Sascha giggled hysterically. "I like their lips. All gummy and mouthy. They're pretty too, though, with all those colors."

Calanthe continued to walk along, with the lush greenery all around her, until she noticed that Sascha had an extra spring in his step. Sure enough, the Court of Hearts was in sight once they came upon the top of the hill they were on. It was a gorgeous sight to see, especially since the placement of the sun in the sky cast a beautiful light onto the entire Court. However, before Cal could even open her mouth, Sascha quickly led them to the pond he'd mentioned earlier. It was clear as crystal, and several brightly colored fish were swimming around in it. She laughed at Sascha's remark about the fish, and it seemed that his laughter was contagious.
"Oh Sascha! You're so silly. But it's true; fish always seem to gape at you with their mouths wide open, even though it's just their way of breathing! Very silly indeed..." she trailed off as she began to giggle again. Who knew fish could be this entertaining?
After their giggling fit wore off, Cal began to explore the area surrounding the pond. She didn't go too far and kept Sascha in her sights. After observing the various plant life and being slightly startled by a couple of passing butterflies, she padded back to the bat/eagle mix.
"Where shall we head to now? Is there anywhere else you want to take me before we get to the Court of Hearts? I'm up for anything!" She truly wanted this day to end on a good note, and so far, it was looking that way. Just thinking about the fish again and how happy Sascha had been by doing this for her helped to produce a smile on her face.

When his peals of giggles finally quieted, Sascha was aware of the fact that the pretty lady had been laughing, too. That made him feel even happier. When he got home, he decided that his first course of action would be to track down his Papa Bernard and tell him, in great detail, about how nice the pretty lady he'd met was. He was sure that Seth would also be amazed, especially since she was a Yarrow, which he seemed to not like very much. The more time he spent around Calanthe, the more he wondered why that was exactly.
"That's right! I remember that now. They breathe... water. Which is weird. I tried that one time when I was in the bath, but..." his ears drooped slightly, and an embarassed flush covered his pale cheeks for an instant. "It just didn't work very good."
As Calanthe explored, Sascha flopped onto his belly, putting his face as close to the water as he could without getting wet. Then he dipped the tip of his beak in the water, because he was okay if that got wet. His brown eyes were wide with wonder, and the occasional giggle-fit would erupt from him as a fish got close enough to bump against him. He managed to lose track of time as he entertained himself, so when Calanthe made her way back, he jumped. Of course, that startle didn't last long, and he rocked back on his haunches. "Ummmm..."
What could they do before they went home? One talon absently scratched at the opposite ankle as he considered it. There was a little town, wasn't there? That one where his papa went sometimes... He knew where it was, they had gone there once together. "There's a place I been once," he began, stumbling across his words in his building excitement to get them out. "A little place near the Court. They have, um, tea! They have tea there. Do you like tea, Miss Cala?"

Miss Cala. She could get used to that nickname. It was especially cute, coming from the boy's beak. Cal smiled at his suggestion. She should definitely get some sort of sustenance soon, since the last time she ate or drank anything was quite some time ago. Her stomach gurgled slightly at the thought of the tea that would soon fill it up.
"Tea sounds wonderful. I haven't been around much of the area surrounding the court, so this will be new for me as well. Please, lead the way." she said with a motion of her paw.
As they neared ever closer to the Court, her surroundings became a bit more familiar. After all, she had been here before. Her thoughts brought her back to that day she arrived in the carriage with Peaches, only to be quickly left with her daughter, Xiven. And she knew how that had turned out. It brought a small, timid smile to her face, along with some color to her cheeks. What an adventure that had been...an adventure she wouldn't trade for the world.

If he hadn't been trying so hard to keep steady, Sascha would have laughed and jumped to clap his feet together. Oh, he did so like it when he made people happy, and while Calanthe wasn't exactly a new person anymore, after he'd spent so much of the day with her. But that didn't matter, because she was sweet, and so pretty! The white fur beneath his eyes darkened slightly as his eyes slid shut, and he gave her a contented smile.
Then he paused, opening his eyes in a flash and blinking at her. "But... Huh." something about the way she'd said that was different and implied something, but he wasn't sure if he was being silly or if she really was hinting at something. "Have you been to the court before, Miss Cala?" he finally asked, inclining his head to the side, his hair flopping over his eyes. He paused, then shook his head, trying to get it out of his face.
Oops. So much for being graceful.
By then, they'd reached the little village, and Sascha's excitement seemed to grow. It wasn't that often that he came here with another person, and that gave the whole situation a sparkling sheen of newness that put a little bounce in his step. They reached a cross-street and the boy glanced around, then pointed to a small shop down the street a little, turning to give the woman a wide and happy smile. "There! There it is! Oh, you're gonna like it."
