Eir gave a low growl when the man hit the boy, but not because a man just hit a child. Anger flowed because these scum had no right to keep him tied up while they went off and had all of the fun. He struggled against his ropes again, but after that first bread incident and his usual viciousness, the slavers had decided that he'd do better without food or most water.
The cannibalistic colt was weakened now, though he still snapped his teeth at any who dared to pass too close by. Of course, that added to his lack of nourishment as even the most mercenary didn't dare lose a limb in lieu of more money for a slave in better health.
Now that they were here, however, the men finally had to do something about the pinioned horse. Someone cut him down from the far side and he fell to the ground with a hard thump. His legs flailed as he tried to get them back under him, but the slavers were ready this time, quickly getting enough ropes around him that together they could literally drag him whereever they needed to.

There was a lot of downward movement and not a lot of talking for a decent stretch of time. Thalia found herself becoming restless. She wanted to attack, escape. Failing that, she wanted to see everything: the shambling beauty of the town, the people, the labs.
Finally, they reached their destination, and the lights went up. They were in a room. It was not packed with the Corvie experimentation gear she had been expecting, but a simple table, a chair or two, and smallish cages that Thalia hoped they wouldn't be shoved into. It was not small, but cramped due to the fact that there was also a whole mess of Corvies trying to see over each other and staring at the small group with an almost psychotic level of excitement.
So these were Mama's people.
"Hi," Thalia said. "Please don't mutilate us."
There was a small twitter among the assembled crowd. The slaver said, "As you can see, we have some fine specimens for you, just as we said we would. The little boy is ripe for tests concerning vision and flight, though he appears to be a bit obstinate. The little girl, as you can see, looks like she's no stranger to experiments. Perhaps a lab assistant?" He looked at Eir. "This one is quite willful, but I've no doubt you'd find something interesting if you pried."

Tosiek stumbled along as they were hustled on to the next place they had to go, and he had to concentrate on not tripping on anything even with their hurried pace. It didn't work perfectly well, and he was annoyed to find himself face planting when they finally stopped in front of the blurry crowd of would-be buyers.
He was not pleased to be here and he turned towards Thalia blob and gave an almost helpless look. Everyone was going to want the darling girl, especially over him or Eir. He had no idea how to protect the girl right now, but he had to figure out how to do something.
He twitched his tail, moving forward a little way to stare imperiously out towards the crowd. He tried not to squint; that would ruin the image.
"These don't look like doctors, Mr. Monroe," he directed the words out towards the crowd, though he pretended it was towards one of the slavers. "I don't think they could heal the disease. . ."
He had no idea where he was trying to go with this lie.

It had taken quite a bit of work for the slavers to get Eir over to where they wanted him; he alternately bolted and sat his butt down on the ground and forced them to drag him along. By the time they reached the auction grounds, all of the men around him were sweating and the cannibalistic horse was looking very pleased with himself.
He turned his pale gaze out towards the crowd, baring his teeth again. One ear flicked towards the blatantly lying skunk hybrid and he wondered wot the likelihood of the Corvies falling for it. At least some of them suddenly looked a bit nervous and Eir threw back his head and began to cackle loudly. The eery, loud sound noticeably caused the front row to jump and a few of the people slipped swiftly out. Evidently the idea of a potentially crazy and maybe even contagious disease wasn't up their alley.

With their freedom and potentially lives on the line, Thalia picked up on and followed up on Tosiek's lie with a swiftness. She nodded sadly at her brother. "I don't think anyone can, Tosiek. The Goddess knows I've tried."
The slaver that Tosiek had called Mr. Monroe looked extremely irate. No matter what he said or did at this point, the seed of suspicion had been planted, and would taint the rest of the dealings. If the Corvies decided they didn't want a group of potentially dangerously ill kids...Thalia was going to steal something amazing for Tosiek for this.
"Don't listen to either of them," Monroe said, each word thick with hate. "They're liable to say anything at this point."
The Corvies relaxed a bit, but their eyes were on Eir. Thalia tried to appeal to their scientific natures. "I think the disease has progressed to a pneumonic variety." That might get them. Corvies worked in cramped quarters underground; a disease with respitory transmission would devastate a community of people who worked in close quarters. Surely they weren't worth that.
But then again, Corvies were nuts.

Tosiek had no idea what Thalia had just said, but it seemed wise to make her their 'doctor', and Eir was obviously their patient. "It did take out most of the people in that village we stopped in," he said as off-handedly as he could. "I don't think that guy was a real doctor after all; he caught wotever it is so quickly." He gave a small sigh, shrugging his bound wings and shaking his head sadly. "I'm sure it didn't help that Eir was biting everyone."
He cast a long, supposedly disapproving glance towards the stallion; in truth, he couldn't really see the teenager except as a lump of pink with purple blotches. "You should bite your doctors," he announced, as though getting on to the older boy. "That's part of why we're having such a hard time getting you good treatment."

Eir snarled at the crowd again. He hadn't had this much fun in years. Well, he hadn't this much fun in a set of circumstances where he wasn't killing and eating someone. Though he would much prefer to be eating someone right now than putting on a show on a random stage in Corvistowne. That thought sobered him quickly and one ear cocked off to the side in annoyance, the expression just as frightening on his face as any other he'd had thus far.
He turned to glare at Tosiek with the announcement that he was biting everyone and he bared his teeth in a strange mockery of a smile. "Well, it wouldn't have been a problem if you would have let me eat them," the snarling reply caused a few surprised gasps from the crowd and a few more of the less confident Corvies slipped out.

This was a manifestly terrible move for Eir to make. The mention of eating people, rather than repulsing the Corvies further, drew only inquisitive stares. Thalia could almost see mental gears turning, the fixated expressions of people rapidly developing an obsession.
"Well!" said an avian woman with a missing arm and some strange mold growing on one side of her face. "You have presented us with very interesting specimens! I personally would love to know what this disease is. And cannibalism! This would be a perfect experiment for my son. He adores studying deviant behavior in Cards."
Thalia almost clapped her paw to her forehead in frustrstion. This had taken an irreparably wrong turn. Especially since the brave remaining Corvies all looked interested. All they had served to do with their scare tactics was weed out the weak, and they were left with the totally batty. Great.
Thalia looked helplessly at Tosiek. She didn't think there was any way out of this one.

Tosiek shot Eir a furious look. "Stop helping," he hissed quickly and turned in time to catch Thalia's despair. Blast it! How to spin it? He was afraid the girl was right, however; the crowd looked entirely too interested.
"He jests, of course," Tosiek said with a sad shake of his head. "I wish he weren't so delusional. . ."
It made no difference, however, as the lovely Mold-Face called out an initial bid. The crowd, or what was left of it, were quickly in something of a frenzy and Tosiek could only watch in his own despair as it spiralled beyond anything he could try to spin.
Their captors had stepped smoothly up, pushing the boy back with the others and began to catch bids. Monroe took up the lead, however, announcing loudly, "They'll each be auctioned separately to give all buyers a chance." And to maximize their own profit.
