Aww, no more distraction beyond a pouting, sulky six-year old in her arms. Femi sighed and rocked the girl a little bit. "You'll understand what nasty people most Outsiders are when you're older," she whispered, petting the girl's pale head. "Your daddy's just special."
From beside her, Alphonse looked up with wide red eyes and nodded fervently. "Echeh. Nasty," he repeated. Outsiders were nasty, and now he had proof in his stinging mouth. Rose was just being stubborn. Stupid-head. He would show her his mouth later, if she stopped being stupid.
Thyme rolled her eyes expressively, giving Parsley a look that agreed with his opinion one hundred percent. "Ssssssuck up," she hissed, low enough that she hoped her father wouldn't hear and her sister would. Whether or not it worked that way was debatable. She wasn't the best at controlling her volume sometimes, especially not when she was hissing something out of a muzzle.

Hatter's head tilted ever so slightly to the side as Sage leaned in to whisper to her father, watching the two of the close. The actual condition, however, was better than Hatter could have hoped for.
Make her a mechanical doll? Not only did it give him a great deal of pleasure, but it would get them a safe night in out of The Woods.
"Of course I can, Sage." He grinned and paused for a moment, debating what he would need to complete a project such as this. Kazi didn't really have a huge supply of mechanical tid-bits.... Perhaps he could slip out or something once everyone had retired -- if they retired -- and fetch some... Or he could send Doorie out... As for casing, however, he could probably borrow more of that from Kazi. Porcelain, maybe? and some doll's hair... Yes, that would work.
Hatter snapped back to attention after a spell and grinned at Kazi. "Would you mind if I used some of your supplies to put it together? I imagine porcelain would be a suiting case for it, instead of the rough metal on Doorie. Would you have any of that?"

"But Mommy! If Daddy's special that means other people are special!" She whined. That was her logic. Maybe one day she would find someone special like Mommy had. She knew full well that she wouldn't find him around here! She wanted to go to the outside world...and she wanted to talk to the people downstairs.
Loreta watched wide eyed. Well it was a good thing that girl wanted one of Hatter's creations. She couldn't imagine spending the night outside in that horrible creepy Wood. Spending the night in here was bad enough.
"I heard that Yong Lady," Kazifel said flatly as he looked down at Thyme. "How many times have I told you not to call your sister names?"
Sage stuck her tongue out at her sister, only to get a angry look from Daddy too. "Sorry," she muttered looking down at her hands.
The man sighed as he looked back to Hatter. "I have porcelain, and I have some mechanical bits from Corvistowne. It's not much, but everything you need is in the two boxes over there." He shifted Sage in his arms to point at two large trunks, boot neatly labeled sitting against the wall.
Parsley refrained from snort giggling at Thyme or Sage for being scolded.

"Oh no it doesn't," Femi disagreed with a frown. "That's like saying if Alphonse is a vampire, then all squirrels are vampires, and we most certainly aren't. He's just my special little mans." She reached a hand around Rose's body to fluff one of his little ears.
Normally, the boy would have whined. He still felt vaguely threatened by the people in the house, though, and so he just sat there and made a token grumbling noise in his throat. It felt nice.
Aw, man, Dad heard her. Thyme's ears went back in an uncertain gesture as she looked up at him. "Um. Lots." No way was she saying sorry when the other girl was being a suck up. It's not like she was lying!
It was good of Parsley not to make faces at her for getting caught, though. He was definitely Favored Present Sibling, since Rose wasn't around. If she had been... then she could have stuck her tongue out at Sage and really meant it!

Hatter couldn't help but be amused by the 'family antics'. He had never got to enjoy a family of his own and, even as a child, spent a lot of time observing other families being... well, typical families. He didn't enjoy it any less now. When everything had quieted down ever so slightly, Hatter spoke up again. Kids would be kids, of course, so he didn't think much of their 'bickering'.
"O! Wonderful!" He paused, tilting his attention down on the remaining two for a moment. Thyme and Parsley, he believed they'd been called. There was no way he'd be able to create three dolls of Doorie's complexity, but maybe he could make all of the children dolls with the materials... Yes, that would probably work. "That should be just fine. I can improvise with whatever I've got." That was the delightful challenge of it, of course.
Hopping off the stool, he set Doorie on the floor and made his way to the boxes. Once more the Hatter went into Working Mode and began to sort through the boxes with single-minded determination. It wouldn't take him along to sort out what he would need and what he wouldn't, mentally constructing the doll as he went. In the end it would simply be a matter of connecting part a to part b, and covering it all in a pretty shell.
Doorie, meanwhile, sat on the floor and peered among the children with glowing-eyed curiosity. So many new people!

Rose's ears pressed down in frustration. Mommy didn't get a lot of things. "But how do you know if someone is special if you don't give them a chance Mommy?" She whined, wiggling ever so slightly. Why didn't Mommy get it?
"Apologize, Thyme," Kazifel warned. He wasn't going to let his little girl become a stuck up Highlander like Aunt Josephine. Humility was something everyone should learn, and he wasn't about to let his daughter get away with being a snotty brat in front of strangers. "Unless you want a punishment." And that was a promise rather than a threat.
His focus shifted to Hatter. Maybe they should leave him and his... companion to work.
Sage watched from her father's arms. Glancing at her sister with a brief smirk before focusing on Doorie.
"It's so cool! Look at it! It's almost like it's really alive," Parsley said as he lowered his head to get closer to the little animated doll. He slowly reached out and wiggled his fingers at it. He wasn't quite sure if he wanted to risk touching something that Alphonse had bitten into or not. He was pretty stupid to do that in the first place....
Loreta remained in her corner and watched as Hatter sorted through the materials. She rarely saw him in work mode, though he did see the man's ability to organize.

Femi tucked the girl's tail closer when she started squirming, petting the long, plush limb. "You only need to give them a chance when you know they're special," she said with a frown. "Your daddy was a walking doll. Of course he was special. He was made just for me, even if he didn't know it. I didn't need to know anything else about him. Nobody else is worth it."
Alphonse was listening intently and giving little half-nods. Of course Mommy knew better. Rose was just being trouble.
Thyme didn't notice the weird human man's attention on her, red eyes still glued to her father. He was the Problem at the moment, even though he would have said that she was causing a problem. But it wasn't her. It was nasty little Sage, being a suck-up.
As soon as his eyes slid away from her, the expression shifted to a glare that was also a promise, not a threat, directed at her sister. Oh yeah. Sage was going to get something later, whether it was one of Alphonse's nasty little dead Dinners in her bed or something else. "Sorry," she muttered, satisfied that the other girl would be worrying.
Her attention shifted when her brother started paying attention to the weird little moving thing. Despite herself, she couldn't help but be fascinated by whatever it was.

Once everything was gathered, Hatter hummed to himself as he returned to the work bunch. It was really a much better sound than him attempting to sing anyone would agree. The children-being-children and parents-being-parents going on in the background was mostly ignored while Hatter worked.
He was getting to play with his mechanics and that was one of the few things that really mattered in life.
Doorie sat on the floor among the children, mechanical eyes shining and flickering as it turned around to take everyone in. The kids liked him and Doorie liked attention, so all was well. Chirring happily, the mechanical creature scooted forward toward Parsley, almost begging to be pet.
Doorie was used to Marchie's adoring touch, and minus size there was really no difference between Marchie and a child.
Hatter glanced over his shoulder momentarily at Parsley's exclamation. "Almost alive~ but not quite. It's all just programming and a bit of magic so far, but Doorie's a darling. You can play with him, if you'd like, he's not the usual bite-and-scratch sort of Mome." After that little boy had bitten Doorie, he didn't want everyone thinking Doorie was some sort of horrible zappy piece of poorly wired cables. Doorie was indestructible, the boy just had amazing powerful teeth.

Rosemary wasn't the type to give up a game when she was losing. No matter what she would continue to fight the battle, even if it was at a later date. She gave her mother an annoyed and rebellious glare before huffing and letting her mother pet her. She glanced over at Alphonse. Grr. Of course he would agree with Mommy.
Sage smirked with satisfaction at the "Sorry" her sister had reluctantly said. For now she had won, she would enjoy the satisfaction for a little while. As her father let her down from her perch in his arms.
Kazifel was getting tired. Children were a handful, and Thyme and Sage never got along. Hopefully none of this would backfire later. Kazifel raised an eyebrow at the little mechanical creature. It must have been quite complicated, though he had to wonder about the magic....
Femi was still going to want to kill him over letting Hatter and his strange friend stay.
Parsley perked at Hatter's comment. So he could touch it and everything would be fine? The squirrel reached at slowly and patted Doorie on the head, still unsure what to think about it. What sort of magic did you use to make things act like they were alive? What sort of programs did you have to make too?
Loreta continued to watch in dead silence. She just wanted to leave. Or at least have fewer people in the room. Either way she was stuck in the corner until Hatter was finished or everyone decided to leave.

Such a trying child. Femi returned the girl's huff in the form of a put-out sigh and continued to stroke Rose's pretty pale fur, rubbing gently behind the girl's ears and fluffing her tail so that it poofed properly.
Alphonse felt a tiny bit jealous and scooted himself forward until he was pressed against his mommy's leg, staring up at her with hopeful red eyes. She began to pet him too, with a less grumpy sigh. She loved her babies. Hopefully Kazifel would keep the others safe from the nasty people downstairs.
Thyme proceeded to ignore her sister as if the girl didn't exist, plotting in the back of her mind how to get back at the little suck-up. She edged toward Parsley and the mechanical Mome, his body reminding her a lot of her mother's summon. Cautiously, she reached out a paw to touch it, her wolf limbs slightly more awkward than Parsley's little rodent paws.
