Oh how Doorie loved attention!
He crooned and chirred and made a various array of other happy all-too mechanical noises and rubbed against the children's paws. His fur was a bit worn and obviously well-aged, proof that he wasn't quite living, but otherwise well tended and in good condition save for the recent bites obtained by Alphonse.
Hatter, meanwhile, had returned to his work on the mechanical doll he had decided on for Sage.
It had to be something pretty and elegant, something that would match her new owner just right. His hands wandered through the construction almost absently although the intensity in his eyes showed anything but distraction. Instead there was a glittering sort of excitement, sharp and keep and darting from piece to piece as they made their way into his hands.
It was wonderful to be working again, especially on his pet projects. He could craft mechanical limbs and all that just fine, especially ones that worked pretty identically to real limbs, but life... that was what really intrigued him. It always had, ever since he'd granted that glorious spark to Doorie.
"Do you like fairy tales, Sage?" He asked absently, his attention turning to the casing. If anyone was paying enough attention, they would catch the faintest difference in Hatter's voice though placing just what had shifted would be hard.

Rosemary watched Alphonse with a blank stare. He was honestly such a mama's boy. Whatever. Rosemary leaned back and licked her mother's nose. "I'm not sorry. I'll prove you wrong one day." She said quietly. One day she would be a great explorer and she'd make all sorts of Outsider friends.
Parsley's ears twitched as the mome chirred and lit up. It really was an adorable thing. No wonder Prissy Sage wanted one so badly. Oh well. She could have it. One day he would be able to build things cooler than this.
Kazifel watched as Sage moved a bit closer to Hatter, ignoring her siblings. She apparently wanted to see what was going on. Kazifel was a protective father, and was half tempted to stop her, but maybe this was good for her? She had been so afraid of people... and didn't get along with her siblings with the exception of Rose.
Loreta noticed something weird, but remained in her corner when Hatter spoke. She wasn't about to interrupt anything.
Sage quietly answered, "Yes. Daddy reads all sorts of stories about unicorns, dragons, Rabbits and things."

Femi stared down at her daughter in surprise for a moment before her expression slowly turned into a pout, and then genuine sadness. "No. You won't. You'll just hurt me trying. Why do you want to hurt your mommy, Rose? That's not nice at all..."
Alphonse ignored his sister's stare entirely as his stomach made a loud, gurgling complaint of hunger. He still hadn't gotten anything to eat and he might not until tomorrow. That would be awful! Stupid metal zapper-thing, hurting his mouth and not being dinner.
Thyme watched the little mechanical critter move around, thinking about all the wires she'd seen. Had her brother really gotten a mouthful of all that? Yech. No wonder he hadn't been happy. Served him right, the obnoxious little Number, for just going around and biting things. Those stupid teeth of his could get through anything. At least the mome was better now. She carefully ignored her sister being even more of a suck-up.

Hatter's hands halted for a moment, thinking on what she said. Unicorns, dragons, rabbits... Unicorn, though, was what he was thinking. A dragon would be too fierce a companion and a rabbit too strange, the unicorn, however, was far more appropriate for such a pretty little singer.
For a moment the Joker looked over at Sage and smiled, it was a slightly disconcerting thing and mildly distracted, but it was kind nevertheless and probably not all that unusual for a Tulgey to endure. Their natives were all much stranger on a whole. "Fairy tales are wonderful," he replied quietly. "You never get too old for fairy tales."
He returned his attention to the Tove he was working on. Fixing the porcelain properly would be harder than the mechanical bits, it wasn't at all his forte, but Sage would be able to see the tove's slowly coming together.
Doorie remained absolutely absorbed by Parsley and Thyme, bouncing back and forth between the two of them like a puppy that just couldn't make up its mind on who it wanted to be pet by more.
Occasionally he would pause and glance up at his creator, wiggling eagerly, but Hatter was busy and Doorie was not to both Hatter when he was busy.

She had no intention of hurting her mother. Her ears pulled back in annoyance. Why didn't Mommy get it? She just wanted to be free and explore places outside of the Wood! Daddy came from Outside so it wasn't all dangerous! She growled glared at the floor. Stupid Mommy for not understanding. Stupid Alphonse for getting hurt. Stupid. Stupid. STUPID!
Kazifel watched all three of his children carefully. He didn't want anything bad to happen, so he had to keep an eye on all of them. If Femi was here... not only would she have a fit she would probably want to kick the strangers out. Of course, he had already promised that they could stay the night. Good job, going against your Queen.
Parsley thought nothing of his brother. He was a number, and dumb enough to bite anything he ever got a hold of. It was his fault he burnt his mouth. Parsley was more focused on poking at Doorie. His ears twitched with anticipation as he watched it.
Sage was fascinated by Hatter's hands and the way he did things. She bounced on her toes to get a better look. It really was quite pretty!
Loreta slowly went to stand, everyone seemed preoccupied enough not to notice.

"Such an ugly face for such a pretty girl," Femi muttered, trying to smooth back Rose's ears until they had to flick up out of habit. "You don't want it to get stuck that way, do you? Then you'd end up looking like your daddy's sister, and she was an ugly doll." Not that her daughter would have any idea what that meant. She winced and hoped the girl didn't repeat that. Alphonse's ears flicked up in curiosity, their tufts gleaming silver.
What a stupidly cute little mechano-critter. Thyme couldn't stop the small grin from reaching her face as it dashed between her and her brother. She playfully batted at it every time it got near, and then couldn't resist a feinted pounce. The puppy instincts were getting to her. Whether it annoyed her brother or not, she didn't care. This thing wanted to play. Maybe it would be up for tag or something?

He layered the pale porcelain, occasionally testing the movement of each joint and made entirely certain the the little thing could move with the utmost ease and normality. For colors he aimed specifically for a Tulgey theme, white with purple accents and a nice, rich red for the eyes. Lastly Hatter incorporated the details of the unicorn he had found to be most suiting. Doll's hair for a mane and some 'fur' and a long elegant horn. Among Kazifel's work materials, Hatter's eyes fell upon a soft red velvet that he thought would make a proper collar. Little girls needed lovely embellishments, fairy tales always had them, of course. When he'd finally gotten everything in it's proper place, he held the little creature, still inert, up for Sage to inspect. It had been a long time since he'd been this 'inspired' with his crafts and the doll showed quite clearly for what it was. She probably would have loved it for that alone. Hatter's lips twitched into another one of his odd smiles. "I think he needs a name."The little Mome whistled in excitement as it was batted and pounced at. It hopped out of the way, bounding around the Highland canine and ducking behind Parsley, chirring happily as it peeked out and watched to see what Thyme was doing. Doorie very much enjoyed the prospected of playing.

Rosemary blinked up at his mother. "How can Daddy's sister be ugly when he's so pretty?" She asked in confusion. Being Rosemary she was going to ask her father the same question regardless of weather her mother answered it correctly or not. "What about Daddy's sister do you know anyway? He never talks about her. What was she like? Was she scary like Aunt Joe?"
Perfect distraction from her angst about not seeing the strangers.
Parsley couldn't help but laugh at his sister and the Mome. It really was funny to see the High and Mighty Highlander act like that. He flopped his tail over the Mome as it hid behind him, and waited for his sister to pounce.
Kazifel's head snapped around to see Loreta stand. He narrowed his eyes and was half tempted to growl. The woman, however, saw his glare and slowly slid back down to her place. Joy.
Sage's eyes brightened when she saw the creation Hatter had made. She let out a happy squeal when she looked at it. It was just so pretty and cute with it's mane and horn! Sage blushed a bit at the mention of naming it. "Is Fai a good name for him...? Though he really does look more like a she." She knotted her hands together. She really hoped that didn't make Hatter mad or anything.

"Daddy's sister was very scary. A lot scarier than Aunt Joe. If you ask him about her, though, you're going to make him very sad. And it will be your fault." Femi turned a quick glare on her cute little daughter. "No making Daddy sad. He really doesn't need it, sweetie." Just like she didn't need those creepy people downstairs in their house... touching things.
She shuddered a little bit at the thought. The smell of rot was never going to leave, was it? She and Kazifel would have to scrub the downstairs for hours and throw all the windows open to try and get the stench out, weren't they? The thought made her wilt even more.
Despite himself, Alphonse was intrigued by word of Daddy's sister. None of them really knew anything about her, besides the fact that she used to exist and nobody would talk much about her, especially not Daddy.
Thyme ignored her sister's little drama completely, her front half pressed to the floor as her mane flopped over her eyes and her butt wiggled. Then, she pounced the both of them!

Hatter couldn't help himself from grinning widely as Sage squealed. He really did love the way she looked when she was happy, it made him smile all the wider. He immediately approved of her choice of names and... her correction made him pause to regard the Tove in his hands.
A girl? ...Yes, he was certain Sage was right, and her correction immediately made him all the happier. It meant she was already attached to it.
Hatter nodded promptly and his grin changed from wide and delighted to an odd expression of glee. "Yes, I think she is more suiting..." The Joker closed his eyes, allowing his magic to flow into the little Tove at last. Instantly she writhed into motion, letting out a haunting little whistle as her plates melted into a far more realistic covering, something much more like skin than porcelain, and floated lightly into the air. Hatter's eyes reopened, a smile bright on his face. "...Say hello to Fai, Sage. She's all yours."
Despite himself, Hatter was impressed. He'd gotten much better at his work. Fai didn't clank or clatter, her whistles weren't mechanical, and she looked and felt so real. The Joker shuddered with excitement, watching the Tove drift around Sage with a trembling sort of amazement.
Doorie squeaked and chirped underneath Parsley's tail, doing his best not to snag any of that long squirrel fur in his mechanics. Yay~ They were playing with him! The mome crouched down, wiggling and whirring noisily as it leaned forward to see where Thyme was just in time to see her spring.
Meep!
