New Year's Eve wasn't a holiday that Fetu normally celebrated. She rarely made accommodations for any holiday, having no one to spend them with and no desire to spend money she didn't have for festivities. She'd happily agreed to spend the night in the station so that another Officer could take the evening off. Spend it with friends. Something like that. Juniper seemed the sort to have a social group. It also gave her an opportunity to put together some of the information she and her 'partners' had collected throughout the course of their investigation. They'd gone and raided several derelict properties in the less dangerous areas. Operations in the others would have to be more careful and subtle, so they were putting those later in the search. No sense inviting that sort of trouble unless they really needed to. A noise made her glance up at the only other person in the station with her this late, what with the Night Watch out on duty. Penny was also working on the case, putting that experience with research to good use. Or at least, the chipmunk assumed she'd had experience with that sort of thing, attending an Esterberry school. She didn't know much about them, only what 'everyone' said. On this holiday, she didn't like dealing with the cheer of others celebrating. But she also didn't like being alone. This was a surprisingly workable situation, to the point where she'd gotten up a few minutes ago to make herself a hot drink with the coffee pot and the packet of dried wine she'd received in her envelope gift from the Courts. She waited for the drink to cool and broke the silence with a quiet question. "How's the tongue?"[Case Post Count: 15/15] Tiny Packet of Dried Red Wine: How on earth does one power red wine? Strange, it smells delightful though. If drunk or inhaled, it will allow the new caster to fill any cup or goblet with red wine once a day. It also gives the person in question an interesting 25% chance of having something strange happen to any potential children they might have...

New Years Eve was a time to spend with family. Of course when that family was trying to cling desperately to you like some sort of oxygen deprived squid you thanked the Suits that you had some sort of excuse to be away from them. So she had come in to work on the case. Putting together the research wasn't all that hard. After pulling all nighters in college this just seemed like second nature. Maybe that was a bad thing? She couldn't particularly tell. She took a small sip of her coffee in thought. It still felt weird. It wasn't the right thing in her mouth. It wasn't even the right color. She continued to flip through the papers silently until Fetu broke the silence. She jumped. Really, she had almost forgotten the woman was actually there. It took her a few seconds to process the situation before she shrugged. "It still feels really weird. It doesn't hurt anymore which is a plus and makes this paperwork a lot easier to deal with."She tilted her head when she noticed the packet. "Hot chocolate?" Torn Tongue: This tongue, when touched, instantly crawls up the unfortunate’s arm and forces its way into their mouths. It tears their own tongue off and replaces the stump with itself, giving the new owner a very strange power. The owner is now able to taste the air at will; they are able to taste and identify, the Suit and Realm/s of anyone who has been there within the past three days. The taster is not, however, able to identify gender or Breed/s. This spell does not work on Jokers. Trying to taste where one has been leads to the owner feeling as though their tongue is being stabbed by pins. [11/15]

"Yes, pain is always distracting," Fetu agreed with a murmur. On teh rare occasions where she injured herself during her travels - or someone else helped her along with that - she'd had a hell of a time trying to make any sort of beadwork to sell. Her mind always fuzzed off and focused on the pain instead.
She reached out and pulled the packet closer, running one claw along its surface light enough to leave it unharmed. "Mulled wine, I think. That's what the packet says. I got it as a holiday present." She didn't say from where so as not to get Rodney in trouble, even though she doubted the Esterberry would tell their Captain something so trivial. It was easier to keep it to herself. "I don't know how good it is, but I thought I'd try it. I rarely drink much of anything."
Carefully, she ripped off the top of the packet and poured it into the mug of hot water, stirring it around with her pen until it dissolved. Certainly smelled good...

Wait. Powdered wine? How was that even possible? The Esterberries ears swiveled forward as she watched the chipmunk. A holiday gift? Did she have actual friends that got her gifts?
"How the heck does someone powder wine?" Penny said as she flipped over one of the papers. There was still quite a bit to sort through. But at least some of the dots were connecting. There were several places that seemed to repeat so there must have been a good likely hood of actually finding these wonderful gentlemen before they took advantage of someone else.
Right. She was having a real conversation with a person, not just doing school work. Old habits die hard.
"I don't drink much either. Just because the one time I had a buzz someone ended up breaking my jaw with a baseball bat. Unless I have some sort of buddy system I don't think I'll ever go out drinking alone again," She snorted before taking a sip of her own drink.

"If I knew, I would tell you," Fetu replied while curiously glancing into the cup. "If someone had asked me, I'd have said it wasn't possible." Then again, if it came from the Courts then doubtless it was enchanted in some way. Hopefully it wouldn't be harmful if it was given in the spirit of holiday cheer. She was really crossing her fingers on that one.
And wasn't it odd to be talking to someone of her own free will. She really did have to develop some sort of professional relationship with Petunia, though. Or Penny, as she preferred. It would make the job easier, especially if they were paired together on more than one case.
"That's... a more unpleasant drinking experience than mine. I just didn't much like the taste of it when I was younger, and I couldn't afford it when I began traveling." She actually hadn't had wine in... years. And she'd never had more than three or four sips before her mother took the glass away. She carefully picked up the mug and sipped at the steaming contents. It smelled amazing, better than she remembered. Perhaps that was a consequence of the heat?
She felt an odd tingling in the back of her mind, as though something had suddenly appeared where there was nothing before. She paused, eyes going blank for a moment as she tried to figure out what that meant. It felt... like an ability... but what did it do?
Some sense of it floated into her thoughts as she focused on it. "I... huh. Do you have an empty cup?" She wore an odd expression on her normally less-than-expressive face.

She gave the woman a rather lopsided grin before she glanced back down at the paperwork.
So connecting the dots. They had spoken with the doctor, she had spoken to several children by herself, and they had spoken to that poor woman who had been mugged. There were several potential places they could have been. Man she was running herself in circles, maybe it was time to focus solely on a conversation rather than skimming all of the paperwork nonstop.
She glanced back up at the silence to catch the rather odd look on Fetu's face. Her eyes were already odd enough but that look was enough to send a chill down the Esterberry's spine. Her ears darted upwards at the question.
"One sec," Penny picked up her drink between her paws and drained what was left of the liquid. She set down the now empty cup for the chipmunk. "Good enough?"

Hisstors were nothing if not occasionally creepy, and Fetu's eyes had never helped her case there. she glanced down at the cup that Penny offered her, ignoring the coffee residue. It probably didn't matter. "Yes, it should be."
She took the mug in one hand and sat, staring into its empty depths. Now how did she activate this...?
Suddenly, liquid began pooling in the leftover drops of coffee at the bottom and rose steadily and silently. It reached about a centimeter from the top and stopped with a tiny ripple. It was red, the color of blood and wine, and had very definitely not been there before. The chipmunk curiously dipped a finger into it and pulled it back out, letting a drop fall onto her tongue.
Well, that was new. "I can pour it out if you don't want it," she said with a faintly bemused tone, "but it's red wine. How strange."

Petunia watched intently as the chipmunk took the cup. What did she plan on doing with it? The Esterberry glanced down at the papers, reshuffling the piles as she continued to glance over at the Hisstor.
Her eyebrows arched upwards as she reached Fetu reached her paw in the glass and something red dripped from it. Wait a minute? How was that possible? Penny's eyes widened at the comment.
"Eh, well... no point in wasting good alcohol?" She reached out to take the cup giving it a tentative sniff. It smelled like wine. She dipped her tongue in carefully, lapping up a bit of liquid. Totally wine. There was a hint of coffee in there too. "Well color me pink, it's actually rather nice wine you pulled from thin air."
She snorted as she set down the cup. "Oh hey, can you tell me about this note. I can't quite tell what it is." Penny slipped a piece of paper in the woman's direction. She figured it would be better to ask the person who took all the notes than guess.

Fetu watched curiously as Petunia investigated the liquid, wondering if it would be palatable, or an imitation, or something entirely different like grape juice or colored lemonade.
But no, it was actually wine. Good wine? Interesting. That presented... an opportunity. Didn't it? She'd have to think on that as she tried to fall asleep tomorrow morning. She had little enough money as it was. How often could she use this?
"Good to hear," she murmured, glancing towards the note. Yes, definitely her handwriting, and she thought it would be clear. Perhaps not? "That's eliminating the Burgis neighborhood because of the materials in the fencing and the raid two months ago for a different reason. Also questioning whether or not the Yala Street residents would be willing to answer a few questions before we went in there, to mitigate any potential threat in the buildings. From residents or freeloaders. If they're protecting their criminal populations, we should know about it first."

Ah all right. That made sense. Though... that did leave an interesting pattern for places that they could actually search that weren't eliminated. "Thank you, that clears things up." The deer-dog pulled the paper back to place it in the proper pile.
She was pretty much done with sorting everything then. "So all the papers are properly sorted and labeled as far as I know. You should probably go over them just in case you can't read my labeling or something. I know my handwriting isn't the best considering I use my mouth."
She sighed. "Thanks for staying with me. It's a lot better having company sorting through all these papers. And it made things go faster, believe it or not. Oh and, thanks for the wine, makes up for the lack of me celebrating." She picked up he glass and took a sip. "You really have quite the gift with alcohol."
