Eldryia payed as much attention as she could to all the sights of the village, but it was a good thing there weren't too many of them or she may have been bored. As it was though, she stayed interested enough, having never really seen something like this before. And it helped that it was night, the time she felt more awake and alive and restless. It was a time for prowling, for lurking in shadow, for watching and spying and all those other fun things she'd come to regard as her life. Of course, none of those things were suitable to do while in the company of someone she'd just met.
But as they entered Zuberi's actual house, Eldy's air of polite interest was exchanged for one of open curiosity. Her ear perked up at the odd things lining the shelves, of the hammock, of the level of technology she'd only heard about in its backwardness. She sniffed, and looked, eyes roving all around, taking in everything that was either interesting or useful to her. Then, she tilted her head up at the woman. "Cool," she pronounced. "So what's with all the skulls?" She approached one, drawn to the purple feathers and colorful beads adorning it, and put out a paw as if to touch it, but then withdrew it. She was smarter than that, after all, and she was just as keen to not be cursed by some weird voo-doo witch doctor thing.

Though she was sure it would not have really upset the spirits, Zuberi was glad that the cat had refrained from man handling the skulls. That would have been... Awkward. Sidling up next to the girl so as to look over her shoulder at the skull she was viewing.
"Oh, it is a custom in our village to keep the remains of loved ones. My mother collects the finger bones, for example. Being the status I am, I collect the skulls. Funny ya point that one out; it belonged to the former priestess."
She then moved away, stoking the fire in the corner with a large iron poker. "We lead a simple life here, but it suits us I hope you don't find this all too strange. I get so many visitors that inviting them into my home has become quite commonplace." Which was quite true, but then again the Midori -were- quite laid back.
(Added a teeny more to the post XD)

"Oh," Eldy replied, her eyes widening as she backed up a bit more, though she then cocked her head, the better to examine the skull from another angle. "So...did you once know all these people, then?" Her head shifted angles and she gazed at how many of the remnants there were. It was somehow...stranger to her that Zuberi should have the skulls of those she had known in life rather than that she would just have...random skulls from Cards that were unfortunate enough to get on her bad side or...something. She took a moment to ponder why that might be, but came up with no answer. Interesting. Perhaps she just wasn't used to the custom. After all, back in the Palace remains were generally just buried...anything else was considered a sort of sacrilege, but here it was probably the other way around.
"No, no it's fine. It's just...different." Her ear went back in thought as she moved after the squirrel. "That's nice of you to let people into your home, but aren't you worried that one of these days you'll end up letting...the wrong sort stay?" As soon as she'd said it, though, the cat's eyes returned to the marking on Zub's chest. She was a Queen, and even though she was a Club, she could still have some nasty abilities. In fact, a witch doctor would be just the type to have other abilities in addition to those that came naturally with Rank. "Though I guess," she said with a small smile, giving voice to her thoughts, "As a witch doctor--sorry, Priestess, and Queen, you have good ways to revenge yourself on such people if you needed to."

"Most of them, yes. Some died before I was born." Touching them would have been construed as offensive, but askin questions were quite harmless. For the most part, Zuberi thought fondly of her relatives and ancestors and had no qualms with sharing their history
"Like here... This be mah gran." She gestured to a squirrel skull. " I had to fight my cousins for her skull." Oh. That came off weirder than it should have. "You see, it is desirable to have such an important part. It is like an heirloom. Perhaps I was selfish, but I was close to her."
Zuberi's smile slowly spread across her human face' serene with a promise of danger. "Aye. Status brings such perks, but generally I be a good judge of character."
(Edit Additional Post fluff)
Generally that was something that warranted suspicion right there; questioning her intentions. But then again, if the cat had meant any harm, certainly she wouldn't call herself out like that? That, and Zuberi did in fact feel a certain.. contentedness in her rank as Queen.

"I see." Her eyebrows went up at that. Fighting over body parts of dead relatives? It was weird, but not moreso than a lot of the stuff she'd seen in her life, and certainly less disturbing than what she'd seen whenever she visited the dungeons. Especially while her Father was still alive...a quiet frown appeared on her face at that. And she found herself oddly wondering if, had they been of Midori culture, she would have gotten to keep any of her father's...legacy, despite not having actually known him. "No, no that makes sense. Did they get like...an arm or something?" She paused and blinked. That came out a bit more...odd sounding than she intended. But perhaps it was just an odd subject. "Uh...well, you know, do you guys save all the bones and stuff?"
Subconsciously, almost, her eyes roved the shelves for any...Cat skulls. She made a slightly frustrated noise. Why was she even thinking about her Father at a time like this? Maybe...maybe she regretted not meeting him even once. Even if it would have been dangerous.
"A good judge of character," she echoed absently, sitting down on whatever furniture was readily available. "I...well. Thank you again for uh...inviting me. Guess I passed the test of character, then?" She grinned weakly, feeling a little self conscious for apologizing so much. She'd never really...met someone like Zuberi before.
...or...had she? A very odd expression crossed her face. A squirrel, hm? Her mind brought an image forth from distant memory, hazy, and a bit...indistinct. But...
"...this may sound like a very odd question but...have we ever...met before?" Her purple eyes looked intensely at the woman.
((OOC:....I JUST remembered that Eldy DID meet Zub. o.o She was owned by Spidey at the time though, and in board time it would have been several several years ago...but I like to try and keep things consistent with Eldy's history as much as I can...XD))

Zuberi's gaze blanked out just a bit, confused. Recognition had not quite hit her and he had to stare at the girl a moment to figure it out. Torques... the looked the same so often. It was hard to remember particular ones from her past. Reaching out, her clawed, webbed human hand took her by the chin and turned her face side to side, scrutinizing.
Then finally, it hit her. "Oh! The little drunk kitty at the bar in the Capital! I remember now. We had gotten accosted by that bully of a man. Haha.. I avoided that place for at least a good year before showing my face again. I've changed, myself, but..." She shifted into her quadruped form, which was similar to how it had been years ago aside from bone spikes along her spine, and those ever present small winglike protrusions from her shoulderblades. She did a turnabout, swishing her long plume of a tail before morphing seamlessly back into human form.
"How ya been? Not still an alcoholic, I hope."
((Well dang! XD That was forever ago. I had forgotten.))

Eldy stiffened slightly in surprise at the sudden, unexpected touch, but made no move to pull away, letting the woman look her over to jog her memory. She smiled toothily when the light of recognition hit Zub's eyes, and nodded, though her tail twitched a bit as her face heated from embarrassment. She'd been...very foolish than. "Heh, yep...I like to think I've changed quite a bit, too...if not in looks than at least in...maturity." She looked on curiously as she made the form shift...yep, a few new mutations, but other than that the squirrel was very recognizable. Her face was about the only clear memory Eldy had of that night, as drunk as she'd been.
"Ah, no..." Eldy ducked her head a bit with a nervous laugh. "I haven't really had much alcohol since...well, since my teenage years. One too many bad hangovers that my Mother insisted on making worse." She wrinkled her nose at the memory, both in remembered pain and in embarrassment over her actions. In some ways, she was still rather childish, but in others her growth was obvious.

Zuberi's laugh was quite good natured, the good eye further scanning the feline as she shook her head is disbelief that she'd actually run into the feline ago. Years, it had been. Funny how things worked like that. "Well, I'm glad to be hearing it. I found in most cases, alcohol does more harm than good."
Gesturing to a pad by the low sitting table that was just low enough for easy quadrupedal use, Zuberi hastened to make them some tea, setting a basket of biscuits that had already been made on the table. "So, what have you been up to? Last time we spoke, you had quite a bit going on with your life. I hope that your issues in the Courts have been resolved? .... Ah, you must be related to those Torques who are in the Court of Hearts. Seth's family is close to them." She went on pleasantly, stirring in some herbs into a pot of heating water that hung over the fire she'd recently stoked.
((In the last rp, there was some drama about if her father learned she was alive.. he'd kill her? I have no idea.))

Eldy nodded at that, after all her own experience had only confirmed that to be the truth. Ugh, she'd gotten in such horrible trouble the two or three times she'd sampled alcohol...funnily enough she'd been slightly underage at least one if not all of those times. She lightly moved to the pad by the table, settling in and curling her tail around her before turning to regard the squirrel with a slightly...unreadable expression.
"Well. My Father...is no longer of this world. He...never did find out about me." Her tone was a bit odd, and it was hard to tell how she felt about this fact. In fact, Eldy did not know herself how to feel about it. "So in some ways...my life is...well, I would hesitate to say easier, if you've heard anything about the total mess Hearts is in right now...but at least I can exist now." She shrugged lightly, though when Seth was mentioned, she had to stifle a giggle fit, as if some private joke had been brought to mind.
"Yes...yes, that's true. And uh, about to become closer..." She giggled a bit more. "Seth apparently managed to somehow knock my mother up recently."

Zuberi paused in the steeping of the tea for a moment to glance at the feline as she spoke. Yes, she remembered the girl had been in trouble. It was almost a personal pain she felt when she was reminded that the trouble was with her father. She herself had been close to her father. At least she had been when she was young, and before he walked out on her mother.
Finishing up the tea, she made no comment of the family issue directly. "Life never be easy, friend" she said with a small smile, pouring the tea into cups and setting cream and sugar on the table. The handles were designed for paw and hand use.
"Yes! I heard of that. Seth's virility knows no bounds, I'm afraid. I tend to be the nanny of at least a few sets of his spawn on occasion." the corners of her mouth turned into a small, reserved smile. Most of them had grown, and rarely visited anymore.
