When Marie at last emerged from under the bush, Mephitisia paused her work to watch the girl. She was mildly surprised to see the younger female out but her face showed nothing of this. Instead, she simply offered the little ax a nod of acknowledgment and returned her attention to her paper work.
It was the suggestion that truly halted Mephit's work, causing her to pause in consideration and once again study the rock in the distance. Well, the was permission from the highest source, wasn't it? Slowly her gaze returned to Marie, a vague smile appearing upon her features.
"I should. I imagine that it would be quieter than most of the benches out here as well." No one else would really be using it, would they? She ran through a brief list of serpents and reptiles in the court and found the numbers lacking. Viola or Linda, maybe, would be most likely...but outside of them? It was best to keep such things in use, then. Returning to her work, Mephitisia spoke absently to the summon nearby. "Do you use it?"
Only a few more papers and then Mephitisia could return to her true work. Or, rather, the work that she preferred.

"It's usually a lot quieter than the benches, especially during the day with people all over the palace," Marie agreed, curling her neck far back and resting her chin on the cool stone bench. "It's just off the path, after all. Nobody walks over there unless they're comfortable with their place in the palace and the gardens, so you don't get the visitors. I use it sometimes when I'm cold." Or lonely, or lost in memories, or just generally in need of solace.
The fact that Mephit was ignoring her made it easier for the serpentine cat to relax. She wasn't watching her like some sort of specimen, with interest or pity or something else equally irritating. She wasn't feeling the urge to gnaw on her leg, which was a good sign. Maybe this was a person she wouldn't have to hate on reflex. That would be kind of nice.

While Mephitisia would not outwardly stare or study the girl, she occasionally lifted her gaze to watch her as they spoke or peered at her from her peripheral vision as she peered out into the gardens. It wasn't so much that she felt the need to study her, or rain pity down upon her, or anything of the sort, really. No, as usual, Mephit kept half an eye on her mostly out of her own paranoia and the assurance that she wouldn't be caught off guard by an attack.
Not that she felt that Marie would attack her -- she could keep tabs on the summon's feelings about her quite easily thanks to her bracelet -- but old habits died hard.
"That sounds like a very good idea then." Mephit commented lightly, finding herself smiling absently. A nice secluded spot to sit and soak up the sun while she worked. It would definitely make her occasional ventures from the dungeon more pleasurable.
After a few moments of lingering silence from the doe, Mephitisia closed the folder she was working out of and set her pen down, gaze traveling more fully to the lounging cat-snake. "For sharing your stone with me, perhaps I can offer you something in return? I have work left to do in the dungeon..." Mephit smiled, the expression a bit more wicked than before but undeniably more heartfelt. "You're welcome to accompany me, if you'd like to alleviate some boredom." It wasn't something she'd offer to most random people than entertained her while she worked, but she couldn't imagine that a living ax (nor any bond of Fino's) would disapprove of a venture into the dungeons.

Marie wasn't in much of an attacking mood just then. She still had the post-cry snot headache that made her nose feel puffy and her eyes burn a little bit from wiping. The crying was over so it would all go away soon enough, but until then she just had to breathe lightly through her mouth and hope it didn't take too long.
The mention of the dungeon brought back odd strains of emotion and she looked up at the woman, taking in the slightly more wicked bent of her expression. Something in the axe perked up at the thought, enough to override the lingering pain and get her to move. "I've had lots of good experiences in the dungeons," she said with a little smirk, the expression looking odd on a face that was still a little red-rimmed but no less mischievous. "Sure. What do you have in mind in particular?"

Mephitisia adored the dungeons. They'd been her goal ever since she had met Pravus and, presently, they'd become like a home to her. Suits be known that she wouldn't have chosen any other place to 'put her heart' so to speak.
Her mind instantly returned to the thought of her first time 'playing' with Pravus in the dungeon, the very thought intensifying her grin. "As have I." The doe watched Marie perk, pleased to see the little axe show an interest in something...especially something they could mutually enjoy. "Just the usual, a little physical persuasion to pry out the last hints of knowledge on some poor sod's tongue." Usually she just used poisons for things like this, but if Marie would join then she would adjust accordingly. Not to mention that once he was drained of all the information they found valuable they could, of course, do anything they pleased.
Mephit doubted the snake-cat, of all people, would have any problems with such a means to an end.

Marie had forgotten how nice a good distraction could be, especially when someone was in a crappy mood or state of mind. Her summoner had been currounded by distractions. Even his uncle had counted as a distraction during particularly stressful times. She would be doing his memory a service by watching someone be 'persuaded', she was sure.
"That sounds familiar," she agreed with a small, sage nod. Standing back up, she changed into her human form and smoothed down a bit of skirt on her thigh before looking at Mephit expectantly. "I hope you'll tell me the particulars. It isn't as fun to watch someone being 'persuaded' if you don't know what you're trying to get out of them."
This actually seemed like it might be... fun. Huh. How novel. She hadn't had fun in a while. Mostly she hadn't allowed for it, but she really did have a hard time entertaining herself. Watching her summoner's mind work had usually been more than enough to hold her interest, but now even that channel was gone and she was left with boredom as the cherry on her Alone cake.

(Wow, fail. X_X Sorry it's taken so long to get back to this! ...and I apologize ahead of time if the quality is off. I'm sick at the moment and my head is rebelling everything. X_X; )
Once Marie had shifted forms, Mephit offered the briefest hint of fanged-smile and began to walk once more. The axe's human form was almost a spitting image of her summoner, only a good deal younger and of opposite genders. It was oddly endearing, but Mephit quickly pushed that thought off. Sentimentality was for fools.
"I'm afraid it's nothing too terribly interesting, the dungeons have been lacking lately." Thanks to the recent stir in the Courts Mephit's work had been erratic at best and, to her unspoken dismay, she more often found herself doing paper work than experimenting. Ah well, at least something had finally turned up. "Severus has accused a temporary assistant in the Court of being the reason for his prolonged illness and seems certain that they are also spying on him, or some such dribble." Mephit shrugged idly. There was no doubt in her mind that Severus's poor attitude had finally warranted him such attention. It was long over-due, honestly. "So the simple task of determining why and how have been left to myself." Because Pravus was too distracted by his fall from sanity to do such work without killing the prisoner too quickly.

"They used to be such a 'happening' place," Marie agreed with a touch of disappointment in her voice. She'd spent hours down here with her summoner, and once she'd gotten her physical form she'd spent even more time with his strange, fun, bloodthirsty kitten. "At least you have someone who looks like they might put up some sort of resistance? If they were spying and making him ill, they might be trained in a touch of espionage."
Ooh, yes, that would be fun. People trying to resist 'persuasion' never ended well for them, but it made for a vastly more entertaining show. She grinned, showing a hint of fang, and skipped down the last of the stairs before running ahead, skirts swishing and flapping around her legs as she ran the length of the cells against the wall. Only one was occupied, which made it easy, and she eyed the man while waiting for Mephit. He didn't look like anything special.

Mephit felt Marie's pain clearly.
Hopefully with things calming down at last, business would be returning to usual soon. However normal things could get, at very least. For a moment her thoughts briefly flickered to Pravus. He wouldn't be normal anytime soon, she knew that, but at least he'd found a sort of warped pleasure in life again...
The thought was quickly shoved aside in favor of the axe that was accompanying her into the dungeon. She sorely wished this man would be formally trained in espionage... A challenge would be fun after the dry spell she'd had as of late. Mephit did so hate being bored.
"He doesn't look like much," Mephit grumbled as she stared the man down "but I hope he'll prove feisty... It's been painfully boring." So boring that Mephit had almost gone out of her way to find someone to throw into the dungeons. Reaching out, Mephit swung open the cell door and flashed a cold, serpent-fanged grin at the prisoner.
"Time to talk." The card was just high enough of a rank to avoid the full effects of her captivating eyes, but he still attempted to avoid them as Mephit adjusted the chains so that he would be on an easier level with the shorted female. Avoiding Mephit's gaze, he instead found himself staring at Marie.
What was a child doing in a place like this? ...And, what was worse, she looked disturbingly eager.
The Corvie Whippet said nothing, but pressed his lips together more firmly. He was a wirey thing and somewhat youthful, almost too-suited to the look of an assistant. Mephit found him disappointing and unremarkable... she hoped that his looks would prove deceiving.
