About ten minutes after Seth left Bernard was relived to see the door open qickly and Temmin sidle back into the room.
"Temmin...sorry to have you called back so soon but uh...I think I may have...ruptured something." He said, uncomfortable aware that Temmin had probably been on his way to another appointment.
The Heron gave him a quick look when he used the term "ruptured" and hurried over. "Where?" Was all he said as he pulled the covers back and began looking for the source before the magician could start in on his litany of excuses.
"My side I was...hugged, unexpectedly, I swear I didn't encourage him..." He said with a half-laugh...which died quickly as he caught sight of the fresh blood oozing through the bandage on his side. "Ah...there..."
Temmin leaned him back and gave a soft hiss of annoyance. "You've popped some of the stitches and gods know what else. Can't you just ward people off?"
"Sorry..."
"It's alright...just keep still, will you?"
Bernard held tightly to his ignore pain ability as the Heron peeled back the skin to check the damage and then sewed him back up.
"At least I'll have everyone fooled, I'm covered in enough scars that maybe I'll lose the "nerd" label."
"If the label weren't stapled to your forehead, maybe." Temmin muttered, though a grin slipped. "Maybe you shouldn't have anymore visi-"
He turned just as the Bat came in, eyes widening slightly as he threw the King behind him a dirty look. "You invited him back in here, didn't you?"
"Just for a bit...just to chat..." He watched the Heron loft a brow. "I'm bored Temmin, give me a break."
The Heron nodded and moved out as quickly as his body would allow...people...too many people and problems...
Bernard smiled at the Bat and motioned to the chair. "Of course I'm up for more company, no need to worry about that one." He jumped slightly as a Tove...of some sort suddenly whizzed into the room. "Oh! Who's...this?" He'd never seen anything like it before...where had it come from?
"I'm fine with it being just you for awhile, Heilyn needs rest, I don't blame her at all."
The magician gingerly reached out to the wriggling Tove and patted it. Cute but...what were all of those...additions?
"So...where should we start this chat? I'll let you tell me where you want to go with this whole experience."
He grinned at Seth, wondering what the answer would be...did he want to know the basics, or just leap into somehting?

((What do you think? <3 How much longer shall we take this thread before jumping into... Other... Things? >:3 -rubs hands together and cackles-))
The bat shuddered visibly as the Tove slid past, shooting the creature what could only be described as a "death glare". He hated the creature, despite how much Heilyn seemed to love it... And now it was trying to pull it's "Oh-look-how-cute-I-am-let-me-devour-your-magical-essence" act on a sick man! The bat's ears flicked backwards as he looked at it, then he lifted his eyes to Bernard. "...He's Lyn's. She calls him Tinman, we found him in the Bog.[/b]" he sat back in the chair on the side of the bed, watching closely to make sure the little creature didn't get too close. "...He eats magic, actually. He wants you to feed him.[/b]"
At the mention of magic of his own, Seth's posture quickly changed to one that was oddly similar to that of the little Tove he so disliked. Ears perked forward, a clear sign of his interest, and red eyes widened slightly.
"Honestly? Part of my excitement about this all stems from the fact that...[/b]" he waved a hand dismissively, almost seeming to attempt to excuse his lack of elloquence. "Well, I never understood a lot of what I could do. It was just handy to be able to dump water on someone that was being irritating.[/b]" his grin only widened as he spoke.
"I guess I'm interested in my natural abilities. I've always wondered about them.[/b]" Well, that was new. Showing some pride in his suite now, in the Palace of Hearts? Perhaps the Bog air had affected him...

[EE! *wibbles*
fyi: the annoying little wretch will stick around for as long as Seth lets him. xD His annoyingness will only increase as time passes]
At being touched the Tove simply wiggled with delight and curled his body around the man's hand and wriggled against it. Unable to control his delight he began nipping a the man's fingers in a gesture of affection and chirping quite happily.
...then he looked at the man's face... it had a rather large hole in it... huh. He'd never met a card with such a large hole in its face like that, save for the crazy Raiders back in the Bog. But... this man seemed quite sane, and kind.
Unable to control his curiosity, he wriggled his way up to the man's face and stared quite openly into the gaping hole... then stuck his head in it and wriggled his whiskers around in it to explore.
The Tove had a demeanor that very much did not match the grace of his appearance.

((We can slip into “other things” as quickly as you’d like. I’ll go from here to a time warp of two months so that Bernard’s up and about, we’ll assume Seth’s had a few lessons and I’ll let you guys have the reins <3))
Bernard smiled at Seth as he shoved the Tove from him as best he could, the small creature’s lither body sliding playfully around his fingers.
”Well, let’s see if we can’t expand upon your natural....and maybe not so natural abilities. You’d be surprised what most people have it in them to do and never find out about it.”
He smiled and opened his mouth to continue when the creature forced its way past his fingers and jammed its head into his eye socket.
”Hills!!! What! Augh!”
Gabbing the creature and yanking it out he shoved it toward Seth, hoping the Bat would either toss it out or hold onto it...the feeling of something wriggling around in there had made him feel rather ill. He could feel his shoulders shaking slightly and wished desperately that he could stop the flush he felt creeping up his cheekbones. Damn.
”Not to be rude, Seth but...perhaps we could continue this conversation another time?” He said with a half grin, slowly lying back down...maybe Temmin was right...rest sounded good after that.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bernard was thrilled with how well the lessons with Seth were going. Only two months and already they had managed to test all of Seth’s abilities, push them to their limits and even expand a little on one or two. Heilyn had even dropped in on a few lessons, granted that led to distraction, but who was he to complain...he was...rather happy to have two friends to spend the afternoon with, even if it meant that they got nothing done.
Moving quickly up the stairs to his office he grinned, he would grab a few books, then meet Seth out on the grounds back near the garden, hopefully they could toy with his water prowess a bit more today, see if they could stretch them to further limits, Bernard was sure that if the Bat would just concentrate a bit harder, he might be able to either get more volume...or split the water into a few paths....he dearly hoped for the latter.
Snatching the books as quickly as he could and tucking them under one arm, he limped back down the stairs and off toward the back entrance, smiling and hoping that if Heilyn was there...that Tinman was not... As interesting as the things abilities were, it liked him a little too much for Bernard to be able to appreciate it...

Heilyn had dumped the children of with Betsy to be able to spend some time with Seth. And what the hell Bernard, too. Having giving birth only a little over a month ago, she still carried some extra weight. She'd lost a fair amount of it, due to her exercising whenever she could. She was elated to no longer be a slave to her own body and force herself to rest all the time.
She was also elated not to be a hormonal crazy any more.
She sat beside Seth in her human form, running fingers though the thick blue ridge interrupting the brown tabby coat, her gloves resting in her lap. That was another thing she'd missed: her human form. Having spent most of her time during the later months of her pregnancy in her Animal, this was quite welcome.
"Good afternoon, Bernard," she smiled, "I promise not to be a distraction this time," she informed him, ruffling Seth's mane one last time before letting him go, putting her hands back in her gloves. She'd foregone bringing the Tove this time, as she knew neither of the men liked him very much.

Seth's ears perked forward, eyes widening with a delighted interest. Despite the uncomfortable feeling that had existed between the two men earlier in the evening, Seth was beginning to feel that this relationship was going to be a hugely beneficial thing for both of them. Heilyn had started to change him, he knew. If not for her influence on his behavior, well... Who knows how this evening would have gone? The one thing Seth knew was that it would not have been nearly as interesting and probably would have resulted in him being booted out of the Court of Hearts for life.
The man nodded to himself, considering what Bernard had said. His not-so-natural abilities? Now that was something that caught his attention very nicely, pulling his mind entirely from whatever emotional struggle had remained within him. His tail twitched with excitement and he leaned forward, questions budding in his mind.
And then that infernal creature did something so... so... Seth's vocabulary wasn't big enough to tell him what the proper word for it was, but he knew that if Heilyn wouldn't be saddened by the action, he would have wrung the damn creature's pathetic little neck. The man snarled openly, displaying rows of teeth to Tinman as he lunged for it, pulling it away from the mortified mage and glaring at it with eyes that seemed to smoulder with a livid flame. "By the suits, Bernard, I should have never let the little beast in to bother you. He's just awful, but... Heilyn adores him. I'm the one who's been rude.[/b]" the man spoke under his breath, not taking his eyes off of the squirming Tove. "I hope that you are at your best again soon.[/b]"
And with that, the man took his leave, squirming Tinman held tightly.
~~~
After his years spent in the capital, the thick-furred bat was finally beginning to adjust to the climate of the place he now called "home". Most of his time now was spent adjusting to his new role of "father", and training with Bernard. All unsettled tensions that had existed between them had melted away entirely, at least on the side of the bat, when he found that Heilyn's pregnancy was, in fact, his doing. And now, sitting in the sun outside, freed from the children at least for now (and spending time with two of his favorite people, at that!)... It was hard for the man to keep from grinning.
As Bernard crossed the lawn towards them, Seth rose to his feet slowly, giving Heilyn a soft look as her hand fell away from his coat. He then turned to the eagle, giving the man a respectful bow and grinning good-naturedly. "Good afternoon, Bernard. You look well,[/b]" as much as he hated it, time in the courts had changed his demeanor slightly, and the man was much more well-spoken than he had been. "And even if she is a distraction, I promise not to be distracted. Maybe. Don't hold me to it.[/b]" His grin only widened. Some habits died hard.
"So, what's our task for today?[/b]"
((Sorry if this quality is... not so good. D: I'm out of practice, but I wanted to reply to this. XD the muses were screaming at me.))
(Xenon, I saw nothing wrong with this post, m'dear. Don't fret X3 Bernard has been screaming at me about this thread too <3 He can't decide if he wants me to do it or not >83)
Once his eye had adjusted to the sudden shock of sunlight, the King of Hearts was able to see that Heilyn was indeed present, combing out Seth's thick mane and looking rather smug.
Well, that could either make things slow or interesting...either way, he would have fun, his mind would just grumble about the lack of progress.
"Hello, you two." He said with a grin, shambling a little faster toward them, waving quickly at a passing servant who called his name. Upon reaching them, he collapsed in an ungainly way next to the Coyote smiling, eyebrows raised...a sure sign he had come up with something that had potential. "Heilyn, I don't believe you, but I appreciate the thought. Seth, I was thinking about maybe pinning your attention down for about an hour or two so that we could focus on finding out whether or not you have an elemental focus. Willing to give it a go? I doubt that you're fire oriented...but you never know."
He winked and gazed up at the palace wall, from here he could just make out the Queen's window, the glare kept him from seeing anything inside but he could see the ivy curling languidly down over the ledge...remembering how his nephew used to force the gardeners who were specifically frightened of heights to hang out and tame the plant.
He wasn't sure if Serafino had ever been aware of him, standing in the room below ready with a small hovering charm just in case...he had only ever needed it once. He was fairly certain Serafino hadn't even been in the room.
Kicking his good leg gently against the wall he glanced at Heilyn, watching her smile and watching Seth lean languidly against her. He was lucky to have such good friends...he hoped never to lose them.
(Aww, Bernard...you're so lame <3)
Seth finally managed to pry himself fully away from Heilyn, hands clasped behind his back as he worked the kinks out of his joints and stretched out his tired muscles, finally letting out a deep and lazy yawn. The sun really worked wonders when it came to turning his brain into mush... He shook himself, hoping to rouse the sleepiness from his body, and turned to Bernard with his signature tooth-filled grin. If he could pretend to be lively at least for now, maybe it would become true given a little magical instruction... "I could likely concentrate for that long,[/b]" he replied good-naturedly, listening closely to the rest of the offer.
His brows furrowed slightly. An elemental focus...? That was something that had never crossed his mind in the past, but now that he did, he found himself intrigued by the idea. His ears perked forward.
"Is it... Common for people to have one? An elemental-thinger, I mean?[/b]" yeah, so focus wasn't the bat's strong point, but fighting was. Red eyes glittered excitedly, and the more excited the bat got, the more quickly he would want to move. "Not that it matters. I would like to explore that possibility, even if the chance isn't huge... It could be interesting, if nothing else.[/b]"
She gave Bernard a smug smile as he plopped down next to her.
"Well, I have been known to surprise people," she commented and then sat quietly, watching the two. Elemental focus? She mentally agreed with Bernard. Given how heat had such a drastically negative effect on him, she also doubt a fire elemental skill with the Bat. She mused this as she looked over that toothy grin of his. It was going to be quite difficult not to be a distraction...
She reluctantly let him peel himself off her to start the day's lesson. She suppressed a chuckle as Seth once again showed his intellectual brilliance. The Bat could focus, quite well. One just had to find something that caught his interest.
"I had a question, Bernard," she spoke up, "We already know he can create water, doesn't that imply he has an elemental bias?" Eh, well, at least she was on topic.
