[I'm putting the death of Fino a little later in the trip so that Bernard's still a bed-ridden invalid in this visit XD EDIT: Fuck it. I feel weird posting in her human form without a pic. P:] Heilyn had been chewing on her fingertips, pacing outside the room until the doctor let visitors in to see Bernard. Queen Serafino was dead. There had been a change of power in her absence. She had to go over any and all dealings up until that point with the Bog with Mis Majesty Shinrai and couldn't really make time to visit him until now. She was not only checking up on her father, but being inducted into the Court of the Bog, catching them up on everything they needed to know, and discussing the possibility of assimilating and ENTIRE government that had been in place for at least a hundred years with the Outside. On top of that, she was several months pregnant and very hormonal. Needless to say, there was a general lack of mental stability in the woman. At least she had enough sense about her to take her biped form so that less people would bother her. Less people were inclined to approach and congratulate her on her human form and the bulge that was forming in her belly. As soon as the nurse came out and gave a nod, she rushed in, forgetting Seth in the hallway. She was at the bedside in seconds, her eyes wide, tears beginning to form, mouth hung open slightly, searching for words. It was very uncharacteristic of her to show panic or cry. "Bernard?!" she whispered urgently when she was finally able to speak. He was missing an eye, there were new scratches.... He really did not look well right now, but they were saying he was stabilizing...

Seth had no idea what to do. His ears flicked back slightly as he watched Heilyn, wearing her human form and pacing. The chewing of the fingernails was particularly bothersome, and he opened his mouth to try and say something, but thought better of it and closed it again. Though the turmoil that was overtaking the Court of Hearts had nothing to do with him, the other half of her emotional unrest was entirely his fault. He didn't want to do anything else that might direct her thoughts to him and her condition once more. " Hei--[/b]" he started as she suddenly dashed in, then fell into a small pout. Well, he was going to have to decide for himself if he should follow her, then, wouldn't he? It took a moment, but she was his charge and she was (most likely) carrying his children, and so the bat slipped into the room after her, ears flicked back as he surveyed the situation. The man in the bed - Bernard, he assumed? - didn't look very good at all. In fact, he looked terrible. " Your Highness,[/b]" he said softly, giving the man a bow before then slipping into place at the woman's side quietly. Perhaps it wasn't a huge amount of success, but it was a step in the right direction in terms of Seth showing respect to others. The trip to the Bog had given him at least that.

Bernard really did look worse for wear. He was extremely pale and slightly green, his hair was a mess and his empty eye socket was an angry looking purple. He had spent the last few days getting over a fever induced by an infection in his side...apparently his brother never had learned to clean his blade... Everything had seemed distant and unreal since his return to the palace, he hadn't seen anyone aside from Temmin and the nurse yet and he couldn't help but wonder whether or not he was going to be allowed to stay on in the Court. He felt sick with tension and exhaustion...and loss. The commotion at the door surprised him and he propped himself up on his elbows as, to his shock, a familiar form rushed in...one of the last he had expected to see. "Heilyn?"For the first time in a week he managed a smile. "What are you doing here? I thought you'd gone home."He kept smiling though it faltered, he was very aware of what a mess he was. His shirt had been torn to hell and Temmin had taken it, until he could shift to repair the damage...he would have to deal without it. His Suit and Rank had been torn off of his chest and his side wound was oozing blood through the gauze. Damn...wasn't he just a pretty sight...ugh. His brother had torn him the hell up...and it embarrassed him. Those thoughts slipped away when a Bat stepped into the room. Bernard had only ever seen one other Bat in his life, he acknowledged the greeting with a bow of his head. "Sir. It's great to see you, Heilyn. How are things?"

[OOC: I'll be mostly in the bg...but I know Severus feels as if he should be around...to at least pop his head in >.>;] Even to Severus, being one to always keep his cool, and hardly ever show what he was feeling, the news came as quite a shock. Queen Serafino had always been a constant in his life, especially when he finally came into the court system. In his mind he knew that it would never last and that he should never taken Serafino's reign for granted, especially with how Queens come and go so easily, but part of him had always felt like things would never change, that His Magesty Serafino would be on the thrown until his soul departed from this world from old age. Severus was not one to cry, but inside he felt a great, great loss... He had been on his way to Corvistowne to reconcile with his mother, who when last they met had left on horrible terms. However, news of this magnitude spread like wildfire, and the moment he heard of the fate of Serafino...and utimately Bernard he came back as fast as his four hooved legs could carry him. Even more upsetting then Serafino, was the fact that Bernard was hurt. Bernard had been wonderful to him growing up, and while he would never admit it to anyone, not even Bernard himself, there was a part of him that felt as if Bernard were family. He had come just in time to see a Jack he had seen wondering about the halls once or twice dart into the room where undoubtibly Bernard lay in horrible shape. He approached the bat with a bit of a nod, before turning into the room himself, not completely sure he was ready for what lay beyond the doorway.

Gone home...? How long had Bernard been like this? She'd been gone for months. As casually as she could, she shrugged, trying to stay strong. Her ears hovered between flat against her head and upright, expressing the turbulence going on in her head. Him smiling certainly cheered her to a small extent.
"I came, I saw, I conquered. You know how it goes," a weak smile making its way onto her face. Ears came forward, eyes searching in concern when his smile faltered. She was unaware of his embarrassment, only thinking Is he hurting again? Is there something wrong? She stood up, reaching over him, but being careful about her own condition, gently pushed him back onto the bed, getting him down from being propped up on his elbows.
"You shouldn't be up like that. You really need to rest..." As she brought her hand away from his left shoulder, her fingertips hovered over the wound that had nearly completely wiped his rank and suit off of his chest. She was so wound up in Bernard's condition that she'd forgotten Seth was right by her side until Bernard acknowledged him. She sat back down and ran her fingers through Seth's mane. Then a man came through the door. She hackles raised slightly. All she knew about him was that his name was Severus and he was part Corvistownian. It was really all she felt she needed to know about him. Hidden in his thick hair, her finger gave two light taps on Seth's head to get his attention, then casually ran her hand down his head and gave a light tug on the fur on his jaw on the side Severus stood on to say "Look that way." Her attention, however, remained on Bernard. She wanted as little tension in the room for him as possible.
"Bernard, this is Seth. Seth, Bernard. I'll introduce the two of you better when you're better." She put a hand gently on the closest of his there was after referring to the King on a first-name basis.

Seth was intrigued by several things. One of which was the Court itself. He had never seen anything of the sort in his life, all grandness and fanciful decorations, filled with what he imagined were at one point, proud and stately individuals. What was far more interesting to him for now, however, was the coyote's fixation on this bedridden King. He was aware that Lyn was fond of the man, but he had never realized exactly how much, and as he watched the two converse, he felt a small bubble of jealousy make its presence known.
Heilyn stopped its growth, however, with the sudden touch. If he was a feline, he might have purred, but he found himself calming once again. There was no need to worry.
The bat glanced at the strange man who had also entered the room, giving him a small nod of aknowledgement before turning back to Bernard. He wasn't entirely sure what to say or do in this situation, so he decided to stay quiet and aware of any potential dangers to his charge or to this poor man. He got the distinct impression that Lyn would be more than a little distraught, should something more happen to him. He had finally begun to take his job seriously, and intended to spend time in the Court with Heilyn until she no longer required his services, so now was the time to make nice with those who actually belonged here.
"Your Highness, it's a pleasure to meet you.[/b]" he coughed slightly, not really sure of what to say other than that. "Heilyn's told me quite a bit about you.[/b]

Bernard caught a glimpse of Severus as he entered, silent and expressionless, but he then moved to the King's blind side and proceeded to say nothing...well, that was very like Severus, he was probably waiting for the others to leave. Thinking this, he decided to ignore the Snake hybrid for the moment, as Heilyn pushed him back down.
Damn but he wished she weren't right. He hated being stuck in bed like this...if it hadn't been for that blasted infection he might have actually been healing up instead of just...being more of a problem to Temmin.
Her fingers hovered for a few moments over the mass of scar tissue that had once been his his Suit and Rank markings...and felt himself flush with embarrassment. Damn...blushing...
"No, you're right, I know...this is just the first anyone's been allowed in other than the doctors, so forgive my excitement at seeing friendly faces."
He smiled at her and then nodded to the Bat as they were introduced.
"Seth, good to meet you, the pleasure's mine, I'm sure."
Heilyn's told me quite a bit about you.
Huh? Really? He couldn't help but wonder why...
"Has she, heh, there can't be too much to tell. Did she tell you about the time that I managed to blow up a tank of poisonous air?"
Despite the warnings he shifted to face them better, pained by the wound in his side but wanting to see them better...he wished he had his eye back...
Finally getting a good look at them...he was able to take in Heilyn's...condition, careful not to let any surprise show through. That, and her familiarity with Seth made him almost certain that they must be...
Well, good for her.
When the Coyote put her hand on his though he couldn't help the awkward look of surprise, he just smiled it away but...that meant a lot...she really...considered him a friend, then? That shocked him...he hadn't had an honest to go friend since...Lin.
"So are you two planning to stay, or are you off on another adventure? Got any plans? I can't help but notice that you're from the Glaciers, Seth, tell me; have the governors finally stopped warring amongst themselves or are they still going at it? I haven't been there in years..."

Severus tried his best not to pay attention to the rudeness shown to him by the Jack. One would think with his new rank that the female would show a bit more respect. But no, he knew it probably had to do with the fact he was part Corvistowne...and rather...ominous looking, he had no one to blame for that but himself...and maybe culture. Corvistownes were still feared, and as he made a point of preaching whenever he got the chance, they naturally seemed to have a harder time in the courts then other regions, possibly because of that distrust. The hair and clothing were purely his own doing however, to make him less appealing to Nobles that would talk his ears off. He was already antlerless...he certainly didn't need to have no ears to boot.
His nostrils flared and seezed several times in fustration at the Bog female's supposed 'slick' move upon what seemed to be her mate. He said nothing...but it made him upset to feel like he was an unwelcome visitor to probably the only friend he had around this palace. Again, his brain preached that it was due to his Corvistowne blood. Seemed that he would have to be a Highlander to wander around without other peoples fear....but hell...it was a Highlander that did the damage in the first place! Not a Corvistowne....
He closed his eyes and allowed the angry thoughts to subside. He stared intently upon Bernard, he seemed to realize he would prefer to speak in private, and he made no motion to speak. There was a part of him that was glad that he was behind the two other visitors...and within Bernard's blind spot, and another part that was horrified to see the man lacking an eye. He looked over the wounds a bit, even the disfigured king symbol, and he clutched his chest subconsciously. Granted Severus hid it behind a large amount of clothing...but for it to be completely gone. To not be able to proudly show it again...

Vaguely she wondered what rank Severus was . A hell of a lot probably happened since she was gone. She put it out of her mind and turned her attention back to Bernard. The half-blood Corvistowne seemed to be patient enough to wait until she was done visiting Bernard. she did not like how he was behind them, but she trusted Seth and the fact that he wouldn't do anything in front of Bernard, regardless of his condition. She gave a small smile. Relaxing, but still quite on edge. Everything about his appearance was a testament to how close he'd been to death...
"Ah, yes, the tank. I think I mentioned something about that. Speaking of which, I brought you back all sorts of fun things for you blow up as well. But for now, since I refuse to let to let you do anything of the sort, I have copies of journals from the researchers who were looking into the place, from the beginning of the expeditions up until the time that the researchers lost contact with the outside world." If that didn't make Bernard just light up, she didn't know what would. Granted, she might have a very angry doctor on her tail for giving him an excuse to stay up... However, her reaction time was quick enough, and she would physically stop him from making any sudden moves, should the mood strike him.
"Heh, we'll be staying. As you can see, I'm really not in much of a condition to travel," her expression softened, ears lowered slightly, and she blushed, touching her belly with her free hand as she looked away for a just a second in Seth's direction. The action was entirely subconscious, but it was there. She wanted to laugh at the next thing that came out of his mouth. Ah, well, she did warn Seth that Bernard did get a touch excited over things he was curious about.
"I never knew you've never been to the Glacier, Bernard. You'll have to tell me about it some time... Not now, as you seem to have other visitors. I wouldn't want to take up all of this time." Especially with children on the way... she would have to make sure to lay low out of the sight of the Corvies in the Court. That and make sure the mask-maker she'd brought with her as a safety net for said children remained aware of the potential dangers...

Seth was quick to notice the deer-mix's displeasure at being watched, the subtle movements telling him everything he needed to know about his inner emotions. The bat, to put it lightly, didn't care if he had offended the other man. He was a bodyguard, and if his charge requested him to keep an eye on someone or something... He would do so without hesitation, and without care to the feelings of that person. Right now, he was protecting Heilyn and getting to meet the man who she was so obviously fond of.
In any other circumstance, that fondness would have pissed him off hugely, but Bernard seemed like a good man.
Seth shuffled slightly, grinning crookedly as she felt her swollen abdomen, and his ears drooped as he offered both her and Bernard an almost apologetic look. Beginning to feel more comfortable despite the obviously irritated Corvie in the corner, Seth found himself speaking in much more of his usual manner. "My fault. Sorry if you were hoping to send her anywhere, Highness. I'd offer to step in, but I'm not nearly as cute.[/b]" he gave her a teasing grin, then remembered himself and fell completely silent once more. Oops. Now probably wasn't the time or place for that.
Then... The King was speaking to him? Really? For some reason, that came as a surprise to the bat, even more than the words that were being said. He had been relatively sure that all the talking would be between the eagle and the coyote. His ears rose slightly, and he blinked. "You're the first person I've met since I left who's been there, Your Highness.[/b]" he said, a hint of pleasure creeping into his voice. "Well... The old governors finally managed to off each other, now we've got a new set at each other's throats. Some things never change, huh?[/b]" The government of the place really was in a sad shape, but it wasn't hard to find at least some amusement in it.
