He hadn't seen the extent of Lior's problems, and she knew she hadn't completely either. She just knew he had problems with proper eating habits and his self esteem.
It was nice to be teased. It was nice to to be completely serious in such a situation. She squeezed his hand and smirked. "You shouldn't give me Ideas. Now I may just have to come up from your blind side to prove a point."
That would be mean, and she wouldn't do it for a while of course. But now that she said she would, Peaches had every intention of doing it. She raised an eyebrow at a thought. Did Bernard know that she could stick to the ceiling and generally spy on the various things around the Palace. Maybe she would have to test that.
She snorted at the idiot comment. "You? An idiot? Give me a break. Just because you aren't all that socially adept doesn't mean you can get away with calling yourself an idiot. Do stop being hard on yourself at least when I'm in the room. And if you WANT to act like an idiot, be my guest. I shouldn't stop you." Peaches took her free hand and tapped him on the nose lightly. "Anyway. I think Lior and Linda are going to be around soon. Not sure if they're going to stop your visiting hours or not, but I doubt they would keep Lior, Linda, Lani or Vio away for very long. I don't think they'd be happy to see you putting yourself down."

"If you do, expect a shock...I can be evil when surprised...ask Gaston."
He said with a grin and a chuckle...he really needed to talk to people more often...he never got to see this side of them...
He rolled his eye a tad as she told him he wasn't an idiot...and quietly disagreed, he was intelligent, sure...but not wise...he knew that for a fact...
"Remind me to act the idiot for you later...I'm not sure I have the ability to do so right now. And alright, I'll cut it out." He said apologetically, shrugging a little. He couldn't even sit up...this was damnably annoying. Her tap on the nose made him laugh a little though...even if his chest did ache...at least he could smile a little....it helped him forget...
"It'll be good to see them, and I really appreciate your stopping by, Peaches. Come and bother me sometime...now that you know I'm not always a pissy researcher."
He would be glad to see the girls and Lior...he wasn't sure how much longer he'd be able to force himself awake but he would do his best...he really wanted to see them. He wished he was allowed tea...his kind of tea at any rate...

Well that was that. Things weren't terribly messed up and she didn't make an ass out of herself. Win. "I'll make sure to bother you then," she grinned and blew him a kiss rather than actually violating his personal space even more. She had to wonder if he would be able to get any sleep between his visit and the kids. Where where they anyway? She figured they would be here by now.
With a small bow she left the room as quickly and quietly as possible. He lips twitched into a frown as she shut the door. There would be so many things to deal with soon it was going to be a nightmare. In fact, she should probably check on Pravus.
Serious things were such a pain in the ass. Depressing things doubly so, and this was just a fantastic combination. She absently rolled down her sleeves and she walked down the still empty hallway.

Lior had gotten back to the palace a little while back with his sister and Peaches, only to find that in his absence - and theirs too, apparently - his father had been killed and his uncle was in critical condition under the care of a horde of healers headed by Temmin. This had, quite predictably, sent him into a horrible funk and he did his best to avoid going to see if the man was okay. He would probably only get in the way of things, after all, and they he would make the situation even worse. That was the last thing he wanted to do. Earlier that evening, however, Peaches had hinted to him that it might be a good day to visit Bernard. Others would be allowed, herself included, and he should take advantage of the healer opening visits while he could and before the man got back into the swing of palace life. He decided she was probably right. About ten minutes after the woman left, a white and gold head carefully opened the door and peeked in, checking to see if his uncle was awake or asleep. If it was the latter, he would slip back out again. Even if he was awake, he might lose his nerve and do the same, if he wasn't noticed and Bernard looked bad enough. He would need his rest, after all, and Lior didn't want to intrude...

Bernard had been dozing lightly after Peaches left, turning over what she had said in his mind. He really did have a lot more friends than he had given himself credit for having...he would have to make sure that he became a little more sociable...maybe it could do for him what his work usually did?
He secretly doubted it but...he could try...
There was a slight creak at the door and Bernard tilted his head so that it wasn't completely in his blind spot...no good, he couldn't tell who was there. His heart jumped in uncertainty and he called out, hoping it was someone else coming to visit as opposed to...damn imagination, there was no one else coming to kill Heart Court members...
"Um...hello? You can come on in, I'm up."

It wouldn't even occur to Lior that his uncle could consider his approach dangerous. How was he dangerous? Nor did he realize that he couldn't be seen... until he saw the gaping hole that used to be a dark golden eye and froze, staring. Now he was very, very glad that he could be seen making that expression. He would have felt absolutely horrible.
About as horrible as Bernard looked. "Yes, uncle," he said softly, the late hour and low lighting prompting him to speak in a more hushed tone than he would have otherwise. Slowly he padded towards the bed and around so that he could see the other side of Bernard's face, the one with the scarring that was expected as opposed to the hole that was not. "I'm... so very, very sorry that you had to send Linda and Peaches after me. Truly, I hadn't meant to distress anyone. I wish... I'd been here..."
He swallowed around the small lump in his throat. He'd never been close to his father and the man had always been exceptionally distant towards him, but still, the fact that he was gone just like that was horrible.

The soft voice simultaneously relaxed Bernard and set him on edge.
"Lior? Lior, oh hills is it good to see you. Are you alright? What happened?"
His tone was worried and he tried his best to prop himself up, using his pain ability so that he could wrench himself upward...he knew he would pay for that later.
"Sorry? Why on earth are you sorry? I'm just so glad you're alright, I had no clue where you were, hills...I'm the one who should be sorry... I should have paid more attention.."
He shook his head and gingerly placed a hand on the boy's head, partially to comfort, and partially to reassure himself that Lior was really back.
"There wasn't anything anyone could have done, don't apologize."

The more he saw of his uncle, the more Lior's stomach clenched just thinking about it. How could this have happened? How could anyone have let this happen to Uncle Bernard?! It just... wasn't right. There should have been something that someone could do. Maybe if Linda had been here... or Peaches... she was excellent at knowing what was going on, she might have seen... warned... oh gods...
He swallowed heavily again and sat down, yellow eyes trained on his uncle's face, trying to meet his one good eye as best he could. It only lasted for a moment or two. As soon as Bernard started apologizing, his eyes dropped once more and he felt completely awful. Why should he say sorry? Was his uncle trying to make him feel better by saying he'd done nothing wrong? That wasn't right on so many levels. Maybe Bernard didn't think that he was sincere in his apologies. Maybe he thought it was just a pathetic attempt to avoid anyone's ire.
"I'm sorry that I made you worry, Uncle. I'd gone to Torquehelm to see what it was like, the place Peaches and Xiven come from, but I realize now that this was a rash and foolish thing to do. I shouldn't have left." Even though there was nothing keeping him here and he didn't think it was silly, it obviously had been or people wouldn't have gotten so upset, Peaches wouldn't have looked at him like a weird little freak for wanting to see her depressing home region. That was the mindset he should take, he supposed.
"I'm also sorry that I didn't have enough foresight to tell anyone I was leaving, or for how long, or anything like that. Maybe I should have taken a guide, though I'd wanted to just... wander... but I see now that was foolish as well. There were lots of unhappy people there, miserable, trapped, or just plain scared. I met this one human... it was just unnerving how terrified he was of everything. And his face was so eerily familiar, he almost looked like a little ghost." Remembering just who the boy had looked like, he nearly choked on his words. "I- I'm sorry. I'm rambling. I shouldn't be keeping you from sleep."

Lior almost seemed to hunch into himself, his face becoming even more sorrowful and he began to apologize again...hills what on earth had happened to the boy to make him like this and why hadn't he noticed?
"It wasn't stupid, don't say that... You have every right to go out and explore on your own...you're an adult, I know that...we were just worried because you had left without notice... I did probably overreact but...it's just because we care about you." He paused for a moment, sizing the boy up, concerned. "You...you know that, right?"
He put a hand on Lior's shoulder, scratching through the fur lightly.
"You're not keeping me from anything, it's damnably hard to sleep like this, don't worry. As to the boy you saw...eerie? Huh, familiar...I don't think we have any other Torquehelms in the Court, especially not Human ones, I don't see how you would have known him..."
He just wanted Lior to relax a little, it would calm him down too, his own stomach was churning with the effort of keeping his pain ability in place...it wouldn't last him long..
