Bernard squeezed Pravus's hand in return as the Cat stood, surprised but returning the smile.
"Good to see you too, Pravus, get some rest if you can...don't hesitate to come back and talk to me, all right?"
He watched the Cat leave, feeling...somewhat lost...that development had been disturbing...if that was the side of Pravus his nephew had always seen...
He pushed the idea from his mind...it was too painful to dwell on, turning instead to the fanged Doe in his room, slightly calmed by her gaze, though the flicker of emotion in her voice and expression was surprising too...
This was such an odd day.
"Understandably, and I thank you."
He murmured, not certain what to say.
"Is there anything I can do for you, miss Mephitisia?"

Mephitisia was not good at this. Not at all. All this chaos and emotional disarray, it didn't suit her one bit. She would be quite happy when it all settled down, if it settled down. For now, though, she would content herself with having said her due concerns and staying near to Pravus.
Mephitisia followed Pravus to the door with her eyes but remained firmly in place for the time being. She'd finish her conversation with Bernard before departing herself, it would be best to let the injured King rest. When her serpentine gaze returned to him, Mephitisia had tempered her emotions back into their usual state of chilling quiet. They weren't doing her any good raging the way they were.
"You're welcome." She shook her head slightly and flashed a bare smile, as uncertain as Bernard was when it came to the situation at hand. "No, Your Highness, I think that's all."
Stepping back, Mephitisia bowed briefly before turning and making her way to the door. Once there she glanced over her shoulder to the King. "Goodbye, Your Highness, I hope you're feeling better soon." The doe slipped out then, closing the door quietly behind her and heading for her quarters.

Peaches peaked around the corner, double checking to see if anyone else was coming. All right. The coast was clear. This was her chance to drop off the bloody fruit basket and hopefully not say anything stupid.
She hastily walked down the wall and adjusted her skirt before knocking on the door softly. The woman peaked her head in curiously before Bernard could really answer.
He looked horrible. She repressed the urge to sigh and look generally miserable that was a bad idea. Instead she slipped into the room. Now it was time to see if she would say anything stupid or not.
"I just wanted to drop off this fruit basket for you," Peaches said as she bounced on her heals. She wasn't good at this whole dealing with injured people thing. "I didn't know exactly what you liked so it's filled with star fruit and any other things I could mange to think of. Oi...you'll have to forgive me. I'm bad with this sort of stuff."

Bernard nodded after Mephitisia, glad that she would, assumably, follow after Pravus...he had never thought he would worry about that Cat.
"Thank you, miss Mephitisia, I'll do my damndest."
He murmured with a smile as she left, closing the door quietly. He leaned back, eye closed and sighed. Finally, everyone was out. He relaxed slightly, trying to get his back to stop seizing up. He really appreciated the fact that everyone was coming to see him, really...he hadn't expected anyone to care at all...or that they would all just call him an idiot for going out to fight on his own. All of these people being concerned was overwhelming in its strangeness to him.
The soft knock caught his attention and he bit back a groan. Who now? He didn't get a chance to answer as the door was shoved open and, to his shock, Peaches strolled in, holding a basket.
She bounced nervously on the balls of her feet and...gave him a fruit basket?
This was officially the weirdest day ever. He would have to talk to Temmin later and ask him how many drugs he was on again.
"I...uh. Thanks, Peaches."
He said with a grin, that was...nice of her to do. Really, even though he couldn't eat anything resembling citrus for a few days...he appreciated the gesture.
"You didn't have to do that, and you don't need to apologize for anything, most people are awkward around friends who get themselves mauled."

And now Ceiling Cat was Socially Awkward Cat. She wasn't quite sure what to say to that. He had just used the term friend and... well this was just very weird. She grinned a bit as she set the fruit basket on a table out of the way.
She rolled up her sleeves a bit it would be easier to focus if her sleeves weren't flopping around. The woman moved closer to his bed and very much hesitated touching him. She wasn't quite sure if anyone would want to be touched after being beaten to a pulp. "Well, I'm notorious for saying really stupid stuff when my friends get hurt. I could give you an example but I don't want to dig myself a hole I can't get out of."
Which happened on more than one occasion. Peaches refrained from rolling her eyes. "A lot of people have been here to visit you. I bet you had no idea how much you were loved, eh?"

Bernard watched her set the basket down with what looked to be a somewhat sheepish grin, rolling up her sleeves and moving closer. It occurred to him that he had never actually seen her hands before, but he wasn't going to make any great effort to focus on them. She had just called him "friend" in return...something he honestly hadn't expected.
"And I'm notorious for not thinking ahead...or thinking so far ahead that relevance is lost...and don't worry about it...I get the feeling that you can get out of whatever you want to."
He smiled and extended his hand to her...he had seen that she was a tactile creature...hills, so was he. Maybe this would calm her down?
Her next comment caught him off-guard though. He blinked, leaning back and staring at the ceiling.
"No. No, I....I hadn't...at all. It's really surprising, especially after doing somehting so stupid, I would have thought..."
He cleared his throat slightly, and sighed.
"Never mind, it is very nice to see all of you though. I never thought I would again."

She was thankful when he put his hand out, and gripped it lightly. Peaches mentally sighed. It was horribly awkward wearing gloves all the time, but she wasn't about to take them off at the moment. Somehow that would just make things a bit more awkward.
Not as awkward as Bernard was when she made that comment. Honestly she would have licked him if it weren't for the gaping hole in his face. She'd get to him later. And when he was better she would make sure to hug him properly. Though that might throw him off even more. Oi complications.
Peaches grinned, "I would give you a lecture on never doing something stupid like that again, but you've probably heard enough from your doctor." Then she remembered something. "Oh! I was wondering, are you fond of chocolate? Weird question, I know, but it's actually sort of important for later. After that I'll be out of your hair unless you want to discuss why Lior was out in my home region before they come to visit you? Or something. It's not like we talk on a regular basis."
Which was probably all her fault on several accounts. But he was the man who was bedridden so he could decide what he wanted to do about it.

She took his hand, which was a good enough sign for Bernard, and he squeezed lightly in return. He did feel a little awkward, not quite sure what to do...so many people coming to see him that he so rarely spoke to...he really had made himself too busy to notice that they...wanted to spend time with him? That was a foreign concept too...
"Oh Hills, yes. Temmin already put me through the wringer. Apparently, I'm as dim as an Ace and have no common sense whatsoever, that and the fact that I look like a blender attacked me. Heh, I deserved it."
He grinned, at least she was bringing in humor, it was much easier for him to make fun of himself than sit there and accept sympathy all day. That was difficult.
"Chocolate? On occasion, yes I do. Why? Lior? I still have no idea why he was- You found him?"
Bernard grinned, he would have pushed himself up...tried...and failed. He knew that looked stupid, damn.
"Thank god, is he ok? I- before they come to visit me? Ah, yes..."
The last part of her sentence startled him, he gave her a slightly surprised look.
"We don't no, I... I didn't think you wanted to talk to me...I'm kind of dull...I'm sorry, I do have very poor communication skills...Serafino used to harp on about it...damn, I'm sorry."
He wiped at his remaining eye with his free hand quickly, feeling a fool.

She giggled at his blender comment. That was just... special. She really couldn't find the word her her vocabulary for it. And then the subject shifted to more serious matters. At least she knew that he like chocolate on occasion.
"Lior's fine. He was at the inn I normally stay at when I go to visit. Apparently he wanted to see where a crazy person like me came from and was horribly disappointed to find out that everyone there's depressed." She snorted. Understatement Stereotype of the century. "Though he... He has some horrible self esteem issues."
If she had cat ears at the time, they would have been pressed against her skull. Why on earth was Bernard apologizing? "Well, don't apologize. I generally assumed you hated me after the whole window thing. Which I never really apologized for, but I think saying sorry is one of the most useless things you can do when things are already forgiven or have no need to be." She gave him a weak smile and brushed through some of her hair with her free hand. "And next time I see you cry, I'm going to lick away the tears just to be a smart ass."

She laughed and it lightened the mood a bit, making him smile and rub his thumb lightly over her palm...maybe these Cats weren't so bad after all...this one certainly wasn't, and Pravus had just grown more of a personality...maybe he should get hurt more often...it seemed to bring out the good in people.
"I'm glad to hear he's ok...the self-esteem problems...he's had those for awhile, but I don't think I've seen to what extent...Hills..I need to talk to him..."
He watched her face as her eyebrows knitted, she looked somewhat annoyed and confused...had he said somehting wrong? Oh...she thought...
"No! No, of course I don't hate you. That's...you just surprised me when I was very busy that evening...I hadn't expected that, I think you're the only one who would."
He ended the statement with a mild tease and a smile. Good god, he hadn't thought about that...he had been...rude...to her, even if she had scared the hells out of him.
She smiled though as he tried to hide his face...
"And I suppose I'll have to let you, seeing as I tend not to expect it anyway. I'll be watching you though...unless you steal up on my blind side."
He muttered with a half laugh, tapping the right side of his face.
"I'll make sure I'm not such an idiot around you."
