"Then I suppose we can just dispose of it," He said with a small shrug. If it was nothing but a useless piece of ceramic there was no point in keeping it around. Maybe he could sell it for a bit of pocket change to someone? Nadja could go to the market and sell a few things to cards, he supposed.
He glanced at the other pile that she gestured to. It was just a variety of different trinkets and such. Absolutely nothing impressive. Nothing caught his eye to keep. Maybe he could have the other leveret--Layla wasn't it?--sort through the pile a bit more thoroughly to see if there was anything useful to be sold.
The jack almost jumped when she shifted. For a moment he thought that she was going to hit him or something. (And in all honesty he would have no idea how to react to such a thing.) The look she gave him wasn't reassuring in any fashion. His ears pulled back, his hand retracting slightly.
One of his eyebrows raised when she spoke. "Not in a bad way. You just look... I don't know how to put it really. If it's anything I would consider it different in a good way." He shifted awkwardly in his seat, briefly running his fingers through his short mane. He was floundering rather badly, wasn't he?
"I didn't mean anything by it, I'm sorry," he said after a moment. He leaned forward giving her a brief kiss on the cheek as an apology.

Seena felt...distressed as she saw Heike's reaction. Now what? Had she done something wrong? Had she upset him, somehow? Her lopped ears drooped farther at the thought. She didn't want to upset him, not at all! She...cared about him. Quite a lot. Not to mention that in this society, to upset one's Jack meant he was perfectly in line to do whatever he wished to you as punishment. She wondered, then, in the part of her mind that wasn't affected by her emotions as much, if Heike was still having a bit of trouble thinking of himself as a Jack. Before him, she'd never met another Jack that hadn't been born as such...at least, as far as she knew. She could imagine that fact might not be something the Jacks would want to tell the world.
She made a mental note to look for a book about it later, but at the moment she was too focused on his answer. His answer meant everything to her, whether or not she could admit it to herself, so when his words were nothing but reassuring, she relaxed.
"Well...all right..." Seena said slowly, still confused. And then he...apologized for hurting her feelings? Despite her best efforts, she felt her heart melt with the sweetness of it all. Heike really was the perfect Jack. "Heike, dear, it's all right...I was just worried I upset you somehow." And about that...thing...but luckily his comforting words also pushed those thoughts back. She smiled as he kissed her, nuzzling her way into his chest in response. Mmm, he had such soft fur~

He relaxed more when the Doe nuzzled up to him. A small smile crossed his face as he his fingers through her mane once again. Good, he hadn't upset her and he hadn't done anything stupid. Now that the miss communication was taken care of, everything would be fine.
"No, you couldn't upset me. You've done absolutely nothing wrong." He sighed. "I will eventually get this etiquette down. You'll have to pardon me until I get used to this." A Jack admitting that they weren't perfect. Someone was probably rolling around in pain from that. But then again, this was Seena. She was someone he could actually trust.
What would Igni think of him now? If he ever found her, would she actually accepted him as a Jack? Or would she just... reject him. Why hadn't he thought about this sooner? It wasn't like he could turn back now.
"Thank you for listening, I should probably check up on the progress with everyone else. Hopefully we'll be having a wonderful dinner again."

With her face happily buried in Heike's fur, the Doe couldn't be happier. And his continued reassurances were doing wonders, as well. The heavy, sleepy feeling snuck up on her again, and she mumbled an objection to his apology. He hadn't done anything wrong, either...her paws stroked languidly at his leg, feeling the slightly finer fur there, and being very careful of her nails.
She only stopped when he mentioned leaving, feeling her heart sink a bit at the thought despite herself. But of course, he had a lot to do...and so did she, actually. The Warren still needed so much work, and it was the middle of the day...not time to just sit around and cuddle, even if it was a tempting thought. Shaking off the heaviness in her limbs as best she could, Seena sat up again, offering a smile.
"All right. Thank you for stopping by, dear, I appreciate it." She leaned up to give him a little lick-kiss on his chin. "I should be getting back to work, too." Her thoughts turned back to the vase, and the pile of stuff she still needed to sort out.

He couldn't help but smile. He ran his fingers through her mane one last time before kissing her on the forehead. "Don't work too hard. I'll see you this evening."
---
Things were odd. There was no other word that he could think of using beyond "odd." Seena was acting different, she looked different, and he suspected something. So when they called the doctor he shouldn't have been so horribly surprised by the result.
But he was anyway.
Seena was pregnant. And he wasn't quite sure what he was supposed to do as a Jack. As a leveret he had delivered children himself. Of course now the situation was completely different. His Doe was going to be having children. With the time line though... there was a tiny bit of doubt. Either way he couldn't think badly of Seena.
He knocked lightly on the door to her room. "Seena, I hope I'm not bothering you..."

Seena...hated being pregnant. Oh, she didn't mind the thought of having children. She'd always hoped for it, in fact; that she'd someday be able to have a few little daughters, and be able to pass on to them all the things she'd learned...she'd teach them all to read properly, even the Does! Or...have one of the Leverets teach them, if she didn't have time. But the getting there just...dragged. And none of the many books she'd read about the subject had quite prepared her for the harsh reality.
The mood swings were obnoxious. The morning sickness was lamentable. But worst of all was the sense of total and complete exhaustion that always hung over her like a second coat of fur. She could barely get any work done, and she felt so restless watching the Warren bustle around her, getting ready for the birth and still sorting everything out, while she constantly napped, or rested her aching feet.
Not to mention, from everything she'd read...she was too far along for them to be Heike's. And this fact...depressed her quite a bit. She didn't WANT to have some other Jack's children...if she had to go through this she wanted it be for him! She just hoped none of them actually came out Lowlanders...that would just be horrible.
She'd been reading a book on genetics, and had fallen into a light doze when the knock on her door woke her up, and she jumped a bit, then slowly rolled over to a more comfortable position, putting one paw on her swollen belly. "Not at all, Heike!" she replied a bit hazily. "Please...feel free to come in." A visit from him would make this day so much better...

Heike paused at the door when she responded. She sounded a little hazy? Had he interrupted one of her naps? She had been sleeping a lot lately, but he had been reassured that it was natural. Everything was going smoothly. Nothing would go wrong.
He opened the door with a smile on his face. She looked rather beautiful. Of course she had before, but making the observation a hundred times over couldn't hurt. He slipped the door closed behind him. "How are you feeling today? I know this has been terribly hard on you..." he walked across the room, taking a seat besides her.
Pregnancy really was something he couldn't avoid. It was fairly likely that he was going to have children of his own at some point. Either way they were going to end up with a baby or two now if he was ready or not. He crossed his legs and made himself comfortable. He was going to stay for a little while and not panic over getting the warren together with limited help.

Seena smiled up at Heike as he entered the room, feeling her heart jump a little, as it often tended to do when she saw the handsome Jack. She sat up a bit more, ignoring the slight protest from her muscles, since she'd been lying in the same position for so long, so there was more room for him beside her on the bed. She'd made sure to instruct the Leverets in the proper way to make the bed to put the least strain on her back possible, though she found herself constantly arranging the pillows and blankets herself for lack of much else to really do.
"As well as can be expected, I suppose," Seena replied, looking up at him fondly. "Which is to say I've been...sleeping far too much for my liking." She shifted to put a paw on top of his. "How are -you- holding up, Heike? I know it's...a bit stressful to think of adding more need to the Warren when we're so short handed already...but at least they won't eat much for the first few months other than milk."

Heike laughed, a smile wide on his face. The paw on his was enough to make the smile real. Stressed was a bit of an understatement. He had been running around trying to find someone who wanted to get rid of leverets. And of course none of it could have been easy. Jacks never really wanted to make things easy for other Jacks. Gentlemen and backstabbers. But in his opinion mostly backstabbers.
"Actually things are going better than I had hoped. I actually think I found a Jack willing to trade a leveret so we can have more help around here. That way Nadja can focus on raising the children properly, Layla can focus meals and such, and we can have someone take care of the odds and ends. That way everyone doesn't have to be so terribly stretched out." He shook his head. One day this would be easy. No time soon, he was sure of it.
And then he remembered something. "Oh yes, I wanted to tell you. I got a few new books that you might be interested in. Would you like me to get them for you so you can read them later tonight?"

The laugh was a good sign...at least, Seena had to assume it was. She knew laughter was not always a sign of happiness or amusement. Sometimes it could just be a release of emotion...but if the laughter was not enough to assure her of his well-being, then the smile he gave was. That was a genuine smile if she'd ever seen on her Jack's face...and she sincerely hoped she had. As best she could, she gave his paw a reassuring squeeze.
She perked up, listening as he gave her the news. She felt actually very awake at the moment, anyway. Silly pregnancy fickleness and mood swings. "Oh, well that is good! What are you trading for it?" With some Jacks, she knew it would be too forward of her to ask a question like that, but Heike she knew didn't mind her desire to involve herself in the Warren's affairs. She would happily help with book keeping...or did, before all this pregnancy business left her so worn out all the time.
"Oh, really? Yes, I'd love that! That's really sweet of you Heike!" Seena's blue eyes lit up like the sun at this new information. That just made everything better! "What sort of books?" She lifted her head, looking up at him eagerly. Her little tail even wiggled a bit in excitement.
