Othello didn't make a peep as they traveled along. He simply stayed besides his brother with his head down. A hand redirecting him every so often.
Xander hummed the entire way, he needed to fill the silence with something. Even if they couldn't converse, it would give Othello something to follow besides feet. When they reached the shop the feline held a hand out to stop his brother. He eyed the shop up and down. Was it even open?
He raised an eyebrow. "Well, it seems good enough. Is it open though?" He said as he took a few steps forward, knocking on the door lightly.
Othello whimpered as he watched figures move in the darkness. He knew they weren't there. They were still scary though. Breaking things and hurting each other. He lowered his head and squeezed his eyes shut. "Why?" he muttered to himself shaking his head.

"Well, I hope so." Karrock mumbled, looking around at the outdoor table he was sitting at. Reaching out with a wing, he pressed down on a service bell a few times.
Slowly, there was movement appearing in the darkness of the shop, a gnarled gray hand wiping a bit of dust from the window to peer out. Then, a voice called out to the back.
"Claire! They're just children!" And then the door opened, the elderly Sorgaire canine looking them over for a moment before giving a smile. "Oh my! You children have come quite a ways to find yourself out here! Did you happen to find our flyers? We've been putting them out hoping people would come by."
Another biped peered out, clicking her buzzard beak before looking down at the children with surprise. "I thought you were -pulling- my leg, Henry! Hello, -hello-! ... Is your little friend alright over there? It's not Hallow's eve, you know. No need to run about wrapped up in sheets!" For all that she was an -ugly- bird, she giggled most pleasantly.
Upon having attention called to him, Karrock shrunk down into his seat.
"Oh.. and is this your brother? Poor dear, what is that coming from your eyes? Are you all right?"

They were surprisingly nice, even if the woman was a bit... ugly. Xander choked down any impolite comments he had when he realized how nice the couple was. "No, we didn't see any fliers, we're not from the Capital so this was just a stroke of luck!" The feline said cheerfully.
Othello listened to all the voices with his eyes closed, taking deep breaths. They sounded okay. Nothing was wrong right now. Xander was pretty confident. His ears twitched forward at the comment directed towards him--he assumed--since there was mention of stuff coming from eyes.
He opened them and looked in the direction of the voice. "I'm fine... it'th nothing bad. I'm jutht a little thpecial." He said quietly. Xander tapped him on the shoulder and lightly directed him to the direction of a seat.
"We're not sure what the magic was that did that too him, but hey, he always smells like mint." Xander said cheerfully nudging his brother.

"Oh Henry... did you hear that? He's just a little special. How adorable!" The buzzard giggled in that way that old women do, hitching up her skirts to shuffle toward the table where the children were seating themselves. Deftly, she pulled little menus out of her apron and set them in front of the children. She hesitated before setting one in front of Othello. She'd seen how the child looked about, depending on his brother to lead him. "You'll help your brother find something he likes, won't you dearie?" Smiling brightly, she then bustled back towards the shop. "You all look at the menu then! I'll be back in just a little while!" she all but grabbed up her husband on her way back in, talking excitedly as they retreated back into the dark room. In a few moments, it lit up, a Corvistownian made sign the shape of an icecream cone flickering to life above the doorway.
"Wow... they were... very nice." Karrock mentioned, looking down at the menu. There were so many flavors. "So... where are you guys from?"

She was rather nice. It made Xander smile as he helped his brother with the menu. "You want the Coffee Flavored stuff I can't have right?"
Othello nodded.
Well that was rather quickly settled. Xander did love how easy it was to please his brother.
"Oh, we're from the Court of Hearts." Xander said absently as he paged through the menu, using his hands. "Unless you mean regions. We're both part Bog, part Torques." That was a partial lie, but Othello wasn't about to correct his brother. Most people automatically assumed that Xander was part bog--why else would he be bright yellow? Working with the assumptions just made life easier. And the way Xander saw it, he was part bog.
Othello's scent of mint started filling the small area. He carefully brushed up against Xander to make sure he was still there.
"I think I'll have mint ice cream," the yellow cat commented quietly. "So, Karrock, where are you from?"

Mint. Yes. Why was he smelling it? He leaned forward slightly and sniffed the air, deducing that it was coming from Othello's eyes. So very strange.
They lived at the Court of Hearts, eh? That sent a pang through Karrock that he could only assume was loneliness. It hurt a lot more to think that there were children he could play with around his age that lived in the very area he did. So close, yet so far away. His aunt would never trust letting him out to make friends, not with how people reacted to the very sight of them.
Xander couldn't have coffee? With his suit, it was somewhat easy to deduce why. Why was Karrock even thinking about things like that? The fact that he felt it necessary to remember it.. bothered him. What would he need to know that sort of thing for.. other than to know not to give him such things? Karrock decided it was probably the latter. He didn't want to think he'd use that information for malicious purposes.
"Oh.. me? Well... I live with my aunt and my brother." He gave the information somewhat evasively, staring down at the menu he wasn't really evaluating. Should he say anything? Should he tell them? He didn't want to make friends and have to hide his offensive appearance forever.

Xander raised an eyebrow at his answer. Either he didn't hear him correctly or he was avoiding the question. "That's not what I asked. I asked "where are you from?" You gave me different answer to a different question. But while we're at it... what's your aunt and brother's names?"
Othello's ears swiveled around as he listened to the conversation. He was staring off in a different direction, watching several scenes play out. People seemed very happy in this shop.... so it must have been a good place to be, right?
"Do you really need to know all that, Xan?" He asked absently whistling at the end of his sentence, turning his head back to his brother. He really was bombarding their new companion with quite a bit.
Xander shrugged, knowing full well that Othello couldn't see it. "Well, it's nice to know about people if you're going to be friends. And I think we could be good friends."

(Note: This would take place in his late teens, after he's earned his freedom from Vren but before he gets his paper mask.) Freedom was... neat. Imre had never gotten a chance to go far when he'd worked for Vren and still didn't really like to leave The Wood or the surrounding area much, but occasionally he liked to fly out to one city or another for the day and just see things. The adolescent corvid got a lot of strange looks, but he didn't expect much else. The people who looked twice were even more confused than those who didn't, and they were usually the ones that jumped or made a scene. Sometimes Imre wished he was invisible, not semi-invisible as he obviously was. Even worse was when someone caught his suit being white, then they really made faces... And then a Corvie caught sight of the little 'phenomenon" and she was very insistent on knowing more when he did not care to share that. After a few hurried flights down one alley or another, Imre managed to both ditch his curious persuer and locate, to his quiet pleasure, a brilliant sign depicting an ice cream shop. The crow let out a cheerful caw and nudged the door open, scooting inside before he could risk being followed by his weirdo Corvie 'friend'. Looking around through the narrow slits in his mask, Imre saw no employees in sight, but he did find a group of three sitting at a table nearby. They almost seemed as odd as he was, which was pretty cool. Maybe he could talk to them if the ice cream people didn't seat him too far away. If there were ice cream people at all?

Karrock was a bit put off by the lad's bluntness. He was used to being the most intense creature in the household. He hesitated just for a moment, thankfully distracted by the blind boy's interjection.
Friends? Huh. It was kind of odd to hear that. He wanted to believe it, but the likelihood that he'd ever see these two again were slim at best. "Oh. Well.. We move back and forth. I spend some time in Avington but the family goes down to the Court of Hearts. I rarely go." It wasn't a complete truth, for sure... but he didn't want them to think he was at the Courts all the time. He wanted to.. control just how much these guys would seek him out.. if they even did. The hybrid still wasn't sure if he was comfortable with it.
The door opened, causing the little bell upon the door to jingle. Karrock glanced to the door and couldn't help but do a double take. He was strange... if Karrock had any room to talk, but he was strange in the manner that he was able to at least be seen in public.
The buzzard burst from the back of the room, all smiles for the group at the table until she saw the other child. Her smile only faltered for a moment, seeming more shocked another odd child had found their way into their store. "Oh goodness... Four childen in one day! This is a -good- day for us, indeed! Come on then, little one, come sit down! I'm sure these children won't mind. Isn't that right, children?"
Pulling out a notepad, her eyes surveyed the little flock of younglings with the kindest of eyes before putting pen to paper. "Alright children.. what'll you have?"

Xander's eyes lit up when Karrock mentioned that his family had something to do with the Court of Hearts. That means if they every actually wanted to meet up again they could! "That's really cool! I can't believe we've actually met someone related the court outside of it! Well, if you want you can always come and visit us on one of your family trips if you get bored!"
Othello's ears flopped a bit. His brother had the tendency to be a bit of a jerk, and to top it off he often got excited and blurted things out. First he was poking this poor person with information, and then he was throwing out suggestions... one day Xander would have to learn tact. "Maybe you're getting ahead of yourthelf..." he whispered to his brother trying to give him a rather meaningful look.
Xander frowned when he noticed. It meant that he should probably apologize and be responsible and such. Man. One day he would get a hang of this people thing. "Sorry if I'm getting over excited," he said to Karrock before he was distracted by the sound of bells.
Another person? He was rather.... weird. Oh! And he was part Torque! That was really cool! Was that mask his binding? The cat wiggled in his seat for a moment with curiosity. And then the buzzard appeared to make things better.
Othello was thoroughly confused and looked around for the source of the sound. What was going on? Thankfully Xander whispered him a quick explanation before the ice cream order was placed. More people. Wonderful.
