There was a long, silent moment, and Felix knew by the end of it that something was wrong. His ears drooped slightly, and though the smile stayed on his face, a lot of the feeling went out of it. The claws of his left paw drummed awkwardly at the tabletop, just to fill the silence that seemed to stretch on and on, even though it was really fairly short.
At her words, the Porcupine's cheerful look faltered, and he looked away briefly. He didn't voice the thought, but it appeared on Rose's fur anyway: I know what I saw! When he looked back up, though, the smile was back, and he shrugged. "Eh, maybe. I mean, I didn't see, hear or smell anyone else there, but maybe I was wrong. Maybe I was drunker than I thought. Y'never know I 'spose."
Well, obviously...Felix wasn't a story teller. Not like he hadn't known that, but...he felt bad for disappointing Rose. He didn't even know what he'd done wrong, exactly. It hurt a little more than he was trying to let on that she didn't believe him, though.

It was hard to believe. Especially when she came from where she did. She had met someone who was actually "haunted." Really it was still hard for her to believe in ghosts. Of all the strange things she could put her faith in it was just the weakest of them all.
"You sound disappointed," Rosemary said as she held her cup in her hands. "It's not like everyone believes that ghosts actually exist. Though I could say that I'll suspend my disbelief, I wouldn't want to lie to you. Lying is far worse than the truth in my book."
Hopefully he wasn't too heartbroken. "I hope I don't offend you, you seem like such a sweet guy. How can I make it up to you?" She leaned forward a bit with a small smile.
"I'm shoving your cleavage in his face would do wonders cheering him up."

Felix half turned back to Rose as she spoke again, already feeling cheered that she still wanted to hang out with him even after his attempt at a story. Still, he was feeling a little bummed out until her words had a chance to process. An ear twitched and he turned to her curiously. "So...you don't believe in ghosts at all?" Well, then, that didn't mean she didn't believe -him-, specifically...it meant she had a prior bias about it. So even if his story had been told precisely and in a far more entertaining way...she still wouldn't have believed it?
He was about to ask something else, when the Wolf-squirrel was suddenly leaning towards him and asking a question that immediately sent Felix's mind to the gutter. He opened his mouth, and shut it again, turning slightly pink beneath his white fur. "Uh...well..." He grinned at her. "I...you didn't offend me, really, Rose! But I uh...I'm just glad you're here with me. I'm really having fun with you, and...I just hope you're having fun too?" Felix's tail gave a hopeful little wag.

Did she believe in ghosts? What a complicated question to ask. "Ghosts are a complicated matter that I would much rather meditate on at a later date," she said after a moment. Of course the conversation took a different route when she leaned forward.
Apparently Forge's comment held true.
He snickered in the back of her head, causing her tail to twitch at the sound.
"Of course I'm having fun!" She said cheerfully. "You're an interesting person to be around. Ghosts or not, your story is unique. You are unique. I find that interesting in a sea full of different types of Cards. Your region is fairly common, but you stand out among them."
A smirk slipped onto her face as she looked at the Lakelander sitting in front of her. "I'm glad I didn't actually offend you. That would have been a terrible shame to lose your company."

Ghost were complicated? Well then, Felix didn't want to talk about them anymore, either. He didn't really like complicated subjects...they were hard to talk about and they made you think too much. He happily let ghosts drop by the wayside for far more simple, enjoyable, and non-creepy topics of conversation.
Felix flushed in pleasure at the compliments, tail wagging a bit more insistently below the table. "Aww, well, thanks, Rose! I've definitely never met anyone like you before, either!" It was obvious he meant it as a compliment, even if it came out a bit clumsily. The Porcupine unconsciously leaned forward, paws on the table and nose close enough to Rose's that she could probably smell the chocolate on his breath. At least it should be pleasant.
"You're real sweet, Rosemary." Could he smell roses, even more strongly now? He took a slow sniff. Hmmm~

Chocolate was a wonderful smell. It wasn't her favorite thing to eat, but it was one the top ten list of good things to smell. A small part of her was tempted to lick the man in front of her, but she refrained. It wasn't like she'd be able to taste the hot chocolate, and she could always order her own. Her coffee was almost out anyway.
"Good to hear," she said after a moment, leaning back to her position. "I like to make a good impression on people."
She heard the slight thumping of her tail from under the table. She refrained from giggling at the idea that popped into her head.
"You're thinking about it, which means you're going to do it if we stick around any longer. And who are you kidding? He might not be your type but you want to sleep with but you are prone to making exceptions when you're having fun."
Rosemary rolled her eyes. Well she wasn't going to make an exception tonight just because of the snarky comments she would be getting from her weapon. "Do you plan on coming back here?"

The smell of roses and the closeness of his nose to the other woman's overwhelmed him for a moment, and Felix felt all conscious thought slip away from him, the world narrowing to only her eyes, pink and odd but somehow pretty all the same, looking back into his own sincere golden ones. The sensation left him dizzy and floaty when she finally pulled away, and he had to stifle a giggle. He grinned instead, to cover up the fact he knew he'd only stumble if he tried to find coherent words right now.
He was getting the vague, confused feeling he may not be Rose's type...but that didn't stop him from really wishing she would kiss him, and wrap that fluffy tail around him, and then...
The question shocked Felix out of his drifting thoughts, and he turned to focus on her, more than a tinge of red visible under his fur. "Hm? Oh!" Quickly recovering, the Porcupine sat up straight and began to toy with his empty hot cocoa mug, just for his paws to have something to do. "I think so, yeah. 'S a good place, and I like their hot chocolate." One eyebrow hiked up. "Though how soon I'll be coming back rather depends...how would you answer that question?"
For Felix, it was -almost- subtle.

Rosemary refrained from giggling. That was probably the cutest come on she had gotten in a long while. Most people were just blunt about things. Like offering to go to the back room or some nonsense like that. Still even if it was slightly classier than most of the pickups she would refuse.
"I think I'll refrain from answering any questions for now," She smiled. "Would you like a bit more hot chocolate? This one's on me for listening to my story and actually being moved. It's quite rare that people actually show their true feelings when it comes to stories."
Maybe she should stop stringing him along? But this was fun.
"And mean. You have been taking after Joe recently."
Rosemary waved over the waitress, ordering a few drinks and a bit to eat. Might as well have something sweet to eat while talking. Maybe she could find out a bit more information by just chatting with him.

"Kay." To his credit, Felix recognized the polite decline when he heard it, and he leaned back a bit in his seat, smiling easily to show her there weren't any hard feelings. Especially if she was going to make it to him with more hot chocolate! He would be the first to admit he was a simple man with simple needs. "Oh, sure! Thanks." His tail wagged again as he just watched her for a moment, eyes soft. He would need the sugar to pick him up again, since his energy was starting to wane at the moment.
But of course, this wouldn't stop him from engaging the fascinating woman in conversation. "So uh...did you always have that...thought-reading fur, then?" He'd seen some pretty weird mutations that Cards were just born with, from simple things like his own horns to the flat-out bizarre. So it was worth asking.
Of course, most other Cards would most likely have asked a lot earlier in the night...

Rosemary blinked with surprised at the question. Most people asked about that as soon as they saw her, or something similar. It all depended on if they were worried about being rude or not. With this Lakelander she just figured he had forgotten.
"No, not at all," She shrugged. "It's a curse actually. One of those things you don't believe in until you come across them. I should have listened to my father and been more careful about where I put my nose. Then again, he was the one who gave me the book that caused this."
Rosemary lightly tapped a nail on the porcupine's horn. "I imagine you were lucky enough to be born with this mutation, herm? Do they give you headaches? How heavy are they?" He had opened the flood gates, so why not take advantage of asking all sorts of questions about things related to him?
