For a moment, Felix worried if the question would bother her...now that he thought about it, the mutation might be a sensitive subject...but the shrug reassured him and he listened with interest to the rather simple explanation, considering how odd the fur was. "At least it's kinda a cool curse," he said with a small grin. "I mean, some curses make you blind, or burn your tail off, or like, make you unable to eat ice cream every full moon or something. That fur could actually be useful." A paw reached out, almost touching the flowing script, before drawing back, Felix's face turning slightly pink.
He quickly recovered at the string of questions, answering easily with a small laugh. "Yeah, I was born with 'em. Got them from my dad. He's a bighorn sheep." He held his head a little higher, obviously proud of his mutation. And why not? Many Cards seemed to find them rather flattering on him. "I get headaches all the time. It makes hangovers murder. It's worse when they get caught on something...feels like someone's trying to yank my head right off." The porcupine winced slightly at the memory of that feeling. "I have no idea how heavy they are, other than...pretty damn heavy. Hence all the headaches, I guess."

She snorted, "Well there is the part of the curse that you don't see, and that I have to deal with. There's always a sacrifice for beauty." Sometimes it bothered her. Not being able to have proper dreams anymore. They were all filled with the ridiculously bits of conversations that people thought about. It did give her quite a bit of interesting material to work with but.... none the less.
Rosemary tilted her head. "So are you part bighorn sheep or is it just a special mutation?" Her tail curled with thought. She had heard of a horn mutation for the realm, but she had never really seen it before. They were terribly pretty... along with his eyes. He probably had some cute bastard children running around from one night stands.
"At least you won't be waking up with a hangover in the morning from today," a grin crossed her face.

Felix's eyebrows rose up, practically disappearing into the line of his forward-most quills. Part of the curse he couldn't see? "A sacrifice? Like what?" Tact was never his strong suit, especially when he was as genuinely interested in someone as he was in Rose. Not like -that- (well, okay, maybe a little), but she really was interesting company. And she'd certainly seen a great deal of things and places Felix knew he never would.
"As far as anyone has been able to tell, all I inherited was the mutation, and not any actual sheep genes," the Porcupine answered, absently tracing the curve of his own horn with a paw. He scratched at a spot behind it, grinning in amusement. "I guess we'll be able to tell for sure if I ever have any kids." As far as he knew, he didn't, though it was entirely possible that Rosemary's thought was correct. There were an unfortunately large number of one night stands in his history. It wasn't something he often thought about. After all, raising kids was a lot of...work.
Returning her grin with one of his own, Felix dropped his paw to pick up his newly refilled mug of cocoa. "Nope! Though there may still be a caffeine headache, depending on how much chocolate I'm really having. Which, you know, is not even half as bad, but it's still not cool."
Despite those words, the Selkie really didn't seem to concerned about it, considering how eagerly he gulped down the fresh cup.

"Like something," she responded with a shrug. She was not going to be that easy when it came down to revealing what she had to go through every night. Well... every night she decided that she actually needed sleep. Sometimes she abused her ability a little too much. Probably going to abuse it for a little bit tonight. Maybe make a few nights of it.
"Ah, well. I don't recommend having kids until you're ready. They can be handfuls...." she knew personally. But as soon as someone found out you had children they either shot you down or asked questions about them. At least that was her experience the one time she had slipped.
"Caffeine headaches are nothing," she grinned as she sipped a bit of her drink. "What's your preferred drink? Caffeinated or not. Alcoholic or not?" Her nails tapped lightly on the glass she was holding.

Felix let the subject drop. After all, he was curious, but not -that- curious, and it was obvious that Rose had no desire to talk about it. Luckily for Rosemary's continued wishes of privacy, the comment about kids being handfuls (and what that would imply to someone a little sharper than he about the Wolf-squirrel's personal experience with them) went right over Felix's head, and he merely laughed.
"Yeah, I don't know if I'll ever be ready for that!" He'd never considered himself 'parent' material, and that wasn't really about to change. If he was ever in a serious relationship with someone who wanted kids, well, then that might be different, but the Porcupine wasn't sure he was cut out for serious relationships in the first place anyway. This attitude would have seemed at odds with his promiscuity, but he -was- always fairly careful to take precautions against the possibility. Well, when he was sober enough to think about it, anyway.
What was his preferred drink? Felix sipped thoughtfully at the hot cocoa. He wasn't picky or finicky in any sense of the word, just eating or drinking whatever was available at the time. But if he had a choice... "I really prefer my drinks alcoholic, to be honest. I like the buzz. Something fizzy and fruity that gets me a few odd looks when I order it and burns pleasantly going down."

She wasn't ready for children and she had children. Funny how things worked. She sighed at the thought. Maybe she should go and be a responsible adult at some point? Rosemary would be the first to admit that she loved children, but she was terrible with her own.
"Fruity drinks?" she said after a moment of thought. He didn't seem the fruity drink sort of man, but surprises were all around. "I'm more of a beer girl myself. Fruity drinks were never all that satisfying to me. Though is there any poison you like better?"
Potentially they could go to a bar. They were still open this time of night. And if they went to the shadier part of town they would be open longer. Her nails lightly tapped on the table at the thought.
'From responsibility to drinking. You're such a wonderful mother, setting a wonderful example for your children. Little Josephine is already going to grow up a psychotic maneater....'
'Quiet you.'

Felix grinned in response. He might not seem a whole lot like the sort to Rose, but there were plenty of Cards who would say he was a bit fruity himself. And there was just something appealing to him about them. Maybe it was the fact he could drink more of them and not realize how drunk he was getting, or maybe it was just how sweet they were. Felix, for obvious reasons, didn't bother to think too hard about it. He liked what he liked and other Cards could just take their opinions and tell them to someone who would actually bother with caring what they thought.
"I enjoy a good beer every now and again too," Felix agreed, shrugging casually and propping his head on his arm. His horns were starting to get a little heavy, as they generally felt on the days he stayed up late. The solution, at least in the short term, was generally alcohol, which meant he perked right up at her question, sensing some intent behind it.
"Hey, I'm not picky. Anything's cool with me," he answered. "You uh, in the mood for something a bit stronger than what they got here?" They never, as a general rule, served anything alcoholic at places like these. Felix had clued in to that after maybe the tenth time he was told, and had since stopped asking after such things in cafes.

Her ears perked. He apparently caught on quicker than she thought he would. Forge snarked in the back of her head. she brushed her fingers through her fur.
"Good to hear," she said as her tail curled a bit. She waved to waitress over and gave her the money and tip to cover both their bills. The woman thanked her before hurrying off. "Let's book it shall well? I know a nice little bar that's open late on this side of the city."
'At least let me out when we get there. I want to have a little fun too. Please? I can go and hit on some Yarrow chicks while you're getting wasted with him.'
'What you don't want to play the wing man?'
Rosemary gave Felix a smile, "And if you don't mind I might pick up a friend before we go there. Unless you just want to have a few drinks with me...."

Felix wasted no time in getting up out of his chair, surprisingly fast for how lazy a position he'd been in moments before. He was always quick to catch on when something -fun- was being implied! ...well, okay, that was patently not true...but he'd like to think it was. Before he could think to dig out his wallet, though, Rose had already paid for their tab. He gave her a grateful smile, spiked tail wagging, and nodded, bouncing a little.
"That sounds good to me!" His head cocked to the side as she mentioned picking up a friend. A blank expression covered his face before it dissolved into a smile again, no less genuine than it had been before. For a moment, he'd been confused by what she meant, but based on her earlier behavior, there was no way this would be any more than a few drinks between friends, no matter if they were together alone or with other friends, right?
"Of course, Rose, the more the merrier! And besides, any friend of yours is a friend of mine." He felt it safe to say so, since he was easy-going enough to like most Cards, even if their opinion of him was low.

"Sounds like we're going to have a blast!" she said cheerfully as she made her way out of the cafe. She took a deep breath of the night air. It was almost clean. Not as clean as being back home, but nothing was quite like that. Rosemary glanced back at Felix with a curious expression.
"It's just a little walk from here, but keep close. Wouldn't want you to get lost and lose a drinking buddy." Rosemary took the lead, it was only a fifteen minute walk to a nice bar. Well, nice was a relative term. It normally didn't have any particularly awful drunkards or anything like that.
Forge was practically wiggling in the back of her mind. Obviously he wanted to have a bit of fun tonight after all of the "boring conversation." She rolled her eyes at the thought. Really he was such a pain sometimes.
