Mrs. White just had to be amused at Menefer. (And a bit annoyed). Even after all that had apparently happened to him, he still seemed much the same guy. Unless, of course, it was just part of an act, another illusion to set her fragile self at ease. She'd have to find out over the course of the night. She pretended to breathe a sigh of relief, and gave him a bright smile. She reached up with a paw to bat at one of his feelers before giggling and running a bit ahead.
Such childish, happy behavior was designed to lull him into a false sense of security or perhaps catch him in a vulnerable moment. Her tail twitched as she caught up again. "Oh, but Menefer, they are very pretty additions." They make him look like a fairy. She let herself walk close to him, and nodded as they were coming up on the restaurant. It was a slightly fancy place, though not so much that it would burn a hole through one's wallet. But they served the best fish in town, and that was what Mrs. White wanted to take her mind off things.
"There's the place, dear. I hope you find it satisfactory. I know it could never compare you your cooking..."

"Maybe not as good as you..." That very thought crossed his mind making him wonder on that for a moment. He hadn't thought about cooking for quiet some time since the night when the world had changed for him. He had tried to coop with what was happening around himself with all the deaths about him and what he may have caused than to think of something as trivial as cooking.
though now thinking back on it did he wonder about the time where he had a wonderful thought... cooking a card to perfection. Would they taste the same or would they be bland. He knew that omnivores meat tasted different than that of a herbivore, mostly due to the what they ate. So a card that ate only vegetables would probably taste like a plant eater, but even then something wasn't right... would breed and realm change their flavor as well? Would rank make a difference due to the concentration of magical power that coursed through them?
"Could someone gain power when they consumed another body?" he stopped himself there, and halted in mid-step only about fifty or so feet away from the restraunts door. This thoughts getting to carried away that he couldn't coop with them either. So when Nel turned to him did he stop his thinking and turned to thinking about other things instead.
"I'm sorry Nel, I zoned out for a moment." he said as he confirmed the fact to himself that he was a changed man and he could do this... probably not killing someone, but cooking them he could do. "Ah... is this the place?' he asked as his smile returned as if everything seemed to connect inside his mind and all the world was a better place.
"Maybe... I'll start with aces..." he said silently, enough to be over heard, but... as if he was thinking to himself.

Mrs. White blinked in a bit of confusion when she turned at the door to find Menefer was several feet back, and with an odd expression on his face. Was he thinking about what had happened to him? The death of that man and the war and chaos? She wished, with a sudden, fierce burning, that she could read minds so as to know what he was refusing to tell her. She tried to push the curiosity down, and gave him a small smile.
"It's all right, dear...as long as you're all right, of course?" she forced worry into her tone at that last word, and then nodded to the restaurant in front of them. She waited for him to open the door, and when he didn't she had to conceal a flash of annoyance as she opened it herself and walked in. Her ears twitched as she caught the whispered words, and she paused, in the waiting area of the building, and turned, frowning slightly. "What about Aces?" she asked, though her eyes had an odd, longing quality to them. Menefer was a changed man, and she desired to know all the ways. She needed to know what he was talking about. Her claws came unsheathed and pierced the carpet.
Something about the way he said that, or what it hinted at, promised something dark, something beautiful, something more intriguing than anything the Feline had ever given her.

Menefer was completely caught by surprise and he showed it all over, even his tail from his exited waving about had ceased. He wondered just how much of it he had spoken aloud when she responded with the Aces bit. He gave a sigh and wondered just how long he could keep away one of his darkest secrets that he had from her. After all... just like his mother used to say to him: "You can not hide anything from a mature woman.". He gave a sigh and thought it through for a bit deciding on something that he could use. It was simple and easy and would keep her off his tail for a bit.
He cleared his throat as he approached her. "You see... I umm... I'm looking for a... an assistant for cooking... and umm... yea... Aces are cheaper than any other... so it would be best right?" he was never good at lieing. He gave a sigh, she was just too nice and a decent person to be privy to such thoughts. He would lose her if she found out such a thing. He shook his head and walked up next to her.
"You said they had good fish right? Well lets put them to the test then!" he exclaimed trying to change the subject. This secret was worse then the other.

It was all Mrs. White could do to keep from smiling. Menefer was actually lying to her. Oh, the poor Torque was absolutely horrible at lying, and she could tell that's what the flimsy story was in an instant. But for him to be lying to his 'sweet Nell', he really must be concealing something lovely and dark. And she'd find out, oh she -would- find out. But not just yet. Patience was the key. Guilt would be a good start.
She made sure to flutter her eyes innocently at him, and let her whiskers droop a bit, as if disappointed. "Oh...I...I see." Her ears even pulled back a bit, but she led him to a table, inwardly cackling about all this. She could turn this situation to her advantage yet. It was as if their relationship had several more levels suddenly, and it made everything much more interesting in ways that the Tulgey had hardly dared to ever hope for.
"Yes, let's," she agreed, allowing him to change the subject. Poor dear, he'd never know how cunning she truly was. At least, not yet. She glanced at the menu as the waitress came to their table and handed them out. "How about some white wine to go with the fish?" she asked Menefer innocently. Adding alcohol was also a good way to complicate a situation further.

She knows! screamed the new found voices that told him... something was rather odd and he just seemed to not be able to completely get over it just yet. It was as if she already knew and that she was ready to pounce on him the moment that he revealed his true intentions about what he wanted to do to any ace that he could get his hands on. Outside he would just nod his head to the wine, instead, which still showed on his face a bit, a fury of self doubt and worry over losing the one person that he held dear to him this whole time. How could he stand this... she would think him a monster for these very thoughts...
Oh how little he really knew of the darker side of Mrs. White.
He looked back up to her, a small frown on his face. "Yes... Some wine would be wonderful." he said as he gave a bit of a sigh. Maybe after dinner he would tell her how he felt, and why he thought this way... Would she understand?

Mrs. White could tell Menefer was struggling. She could almost see the gears turning in his brain as he asked himself how much she knew, as he doubted everything he'd ever taken to be true about the world. Oh, the loss of innocence. Was there really anything sweeter? She could have laughed for joy at seeing his struggle, but she forced herself to remain calm and innocent. She nodded sweetly and told the waitress what they wanted, white wine and fish cooked in that special way.
When the waitress left again, she looked back over to Menefer and let her face fall, ears tilting just slightly. "Something wrong, dear?" she asked, allowing just the right amount of hesitancy in her voice. This is fun~ "I mean...you seem a bit down. You know you can talk to me, whatever it is, right?" She worried her lip a bit, as if uncomfortable in the vibes she was getting off him, as if worried about Menefer. Her black-tipped paw searched for his and clasped around it on top of the table.

After ordering a complex selection from there menu did he finally wave the distraught waiter away, hearing the female that she was thinking that he was a food critique, which wasn't bad for him. IT would mean that they would make sure that they cooked it correctly and make sure it was to his standards as a good meal and that he could fulfill what Nell had wanted. He was going to look at everything that they had done and make sure that it was done right. To even add a bit to the mix did he pull out a small black note pad and a Corvie pen that he had bought. He gave Mrs. White a smile and jotted a few notations in Torque.
"Well... I'll see if they are good... so yea... umm... something is bothering me, but I just don't want to drive you away. It happened that night..." he said looking a bit away wondering if he should really tell her what went through his mind, or how it came to be that he was starting this thoughts. It was for once... because he tasted the blood of another card. It was strange, and yet... wonderfully flavored!
A smile could be seen on his face from those thoughts, which he quickly masked into grief if she forced him to speak of it. Though this was no place to talk about such things. "Well... I... uh... I'll tell you after dinner? So you won't lose your appetite, o.k.?" he asked pleading with his eyes, one the rich Torque Purple, and the other a light green.

So Menefer was going to play the part of a food critic? Mrs. White rather expected the Torque to correct the waitress on that, and when he didn't she found herself rather surprised, though she hid it. So Menefer was getting comfortable in his lies now. Was this really the same man who, a mere two weeks ago, couldn't stand the thought of poisoning his rival the the restaurant? No, she answered herself just as quickly, no, he's a much darker and more unbalanced man than he was then.
How wonderful.
"You won't drive me away, dearest," she said earnestly, eyes burning and paw squeezing his. She was so close...and...he was smiling quite oddly. It reminded her of the feeling she got when she killed someone, and it made something in her stir awake. She didn't bring up the odd expression, knowing already he wouldn't tell her...yet.
The wait made her flare with impatience, but she controlled it, as she always had, and gave him a sappy, reassuring smile. "All right, Menefer, dear. Please, don't think about such things now if they upset you." And now, he won't be able to stop thinking about them!

He sat there transfixed wondering what she was going to say then thought afterward on how she did respond. She didn't seem at all conserned about what it was, she seemed ready to wait for him to tell her on his own instead of beating it out of him with words and the sorts. He knew that she was a very nice person, and such thoughts could send her away from him, but it was something that he just couldn't hide any longer.
He waited... and the food was served... he waited a bit longer, the thoughts running through his mind showing on his face plane. He was half way through with his course, jotting a few notes that would improve his own fish when he accidentally wrote what was on his mind instead of the herb that he had tasted, "...Flesh...... he didn't even notice it right away, though... it would have given her plenty of time to glance at it for it was written differently than the other words, it was between trout and sage.
When he did notice it towards the end of the meal did he quickly shut the small black book with much haste and looked up to Nell with pleading eyes... hoping that this wouldn't cause uncomfortable questions.
