Within about three minutes George was back, moving as quickly as he could down the hall to where he had left Hatter and his friend, Conway. He was glad that both had been so amicable about tea, he wasn't sure Ellen would have been quite so happy to make anything else.
He slid around the corner carrying a thin silver tray with a few sandwiches piled on it and some cookies on the side. He placed this down on the coffee table between his guests and flopped down on a pouf across from them, his thick hair falling over one eye.
"Sorry about the wait, Fravell had some questions for me and I couldn't get away from him in t-time."
He smiled at them, hoping they weren't too uncomfortable, Conway looked a bit put-out and George assumed it was mostly due to his curse...he felt badly that there wasn't anything he could do about it.
"The tea'll be out in a few minutes once Ellen's fixed it...so. Why were you t-two out here? I've never actually gotten to have visitors before so t-this is pretty amazing for me."
He gave them both a smile and propped his chin on his elbows, taking them in. Delighted that they were both really here. Wait until master saw that he could make friends...Human friends too, he would approve.

Once George stepped out of the room, Hatter moved into the room and found himself a seat to settle comfortably into. Somehow the loudly dressed man just managed to make himself comfortable no matter where he was. Even in a burrow in the middle of The Wood he appeared perfectly at home.
Hatter, however, was sadly not so easy to ignore out of existence. He had turned, grinning like a cheshire cat, and focused all of his interest and curiousity onto the other male. "How long have you had that curse? It must be bloody awkward in groups, especially as not many people know sign language." He rambled along cheerfully, oblivious to the fact that that Conway might be uncomfortable. Though, as anyone that truly knew Hatter would know, he was most likely far from truly oblivious and was instead pointedly ignoring the other male's discomfort.
George luckily saved the day with his return and the platter of food that came with him. It instantly caught his beaming attention and he twisted toward George with a large smile.
"Ah! Thank you, George!" He grabbed a cookie from the tray once it was set out, popping it into his mouth and chewing happily as the Torque spoke. When he'd swallowed the cookie, he replied with that cheerful smile ever in place. "I was actually just taking a little break from research and decided to go walking...and, well. The Wood's always interesting."
Since he was sitting in The Wood with his company he honestly assumed that neither of them would take this as an odd comment. They must obviously not disagree with the place, or they simply wouldn't be there...right?

Conway shifted with annoyance at Hatter's comment. "As long as I can remember I've had this curse." And he avoided large groups of people because of his little problem. Honestly, if he wasn't a Joker he probably wouldn't have this problem.
And George saved the day when he came back with the tray of food. Conway let out a small sigh of relief as he took one of the cookies and took his sweet time nibbling on it. He let Hatter do the spastic talking for a while. He was good at that.
When it was silent again and Conway finished his cookie he took the opportunity to speak verbally to George with the proper hand movements to accompany his speech. It was a bit of a hassle, but it was the best he could do. It was really embarrassing not being able to hold casual conversation.
"I needed to get away from my job, and I said I was going to visit you...and I figured out that your name pretty much means earth or one who works the earth." Ha. He remembered. The Hisstor shrugged, "And it's nice to see someone who doesn't want to beat you with a high heel for fixing their tea wrong. Thank you for inviting me here."

George smiled as they both started munching on the platter of food.
"Not a p-problem, Hatter. I'm glad you're enjoying them. You just wanted to go for a walk?"
George gave the man a rather incredulous stare.
"That's a long way to just...go for a walk...I hope you at least find something of interest here."
He smiled when Conway addressed him, he was most interested in what Conway had to say...seeing as he already knew him. He was still feeling out Hatter.
"Does it? I'd always wondered, I g-guess that works since I'm a Club, huh?" He said with a smile, taking a cookie himself. "Y-you can come here anytime you know, I already asked my Master...he said he doesn't mind so long as we keep out of his way and I continue my studies. I-Who beats you with a high-heeled shoe?"
He asked, face suddenly flooded with concern. Was someone out to hurt Conway the way he had been hurt?
He was prevented from asking further questions, however, as the door was pushed open and a steel cart was pushed into the room. Behind it, hopping along, her paws perched on the handle...
Was a Rabbit.
A Tulgey, and rather old in appearance, wrinkles around her face and some grey in her muzzle. She gave them all a big smile and dropped down on all fours with a nod.
"Afternoon all, good to meet you, I'm sure. George dear, would you pour the tea, please. My paws are awful tired."
She gave a small bow, putting her chin to the floor to the newcomers, red eyes shining with curiosity, as George leapt up to pour the tea.
"Some Tulgey Red for you all, my name's Ellen, you can call for me if you need anything else. George dear, who are you friends?"
George quickly set the tea pot down and gestured to his guests in turn.
"Ah, sorry. Th-this is Hatter, and this is my friend, Conway, remember? I told you about him."

"Not a walk, exactly...just, a vacation. In the end, it'll be more of a walk I suppose." Since he'd have to hurry back soon, and that would take some time even if he turned around and went home now. Oops. At least the trip had been worth it. "I most definitely did." Hatter assured after a moment, grinning widely
Hatter, as was common with most people that were used to annoying others, simply ignored the fact that both Conway and George seemed to a bit uncertain around him. Why shouldn't they, after all? He was a strange man in a top hat and they were...well, they were strange in their own respects but neither of them were, of course, Hatter.
So he popped another cookie in his mouth and chewed happily while he listened to Conway talk. Or watched. Whatever.
And then the door open and the smell of some delightful Tugley Red wafted in but, for once in his life, Hatter didn't think at all about tea thanks to what was pushing the tray along. It wasn't just any servant...but a rabbit. She was a Rabbit. His heart jumped in his chest and he sat up abruptly, looking curious and excited and vaguely as if he intended to jump her.
"Good afternoon, miss -- Ellen, is it? It's a pleasure to meet you then." He lifted his top hat as he spoke and dipped his head in a gentlemanly greeting. "As George said, I'm Hatter." If admitting that vacationing in The Wood sounded like fun wasn't odd, even Hatter knew that his casual fondness of Rabbit's was. He simply couldn't help it though!

He was about to reply when he was interrupted by the coming of tea, and a Rabbit. Conway, was a little more than just surprised, and it did show briefly on his face. If Hatter hadn't said something he probably would have had one eyebrow raised for quite sometime.
Instead he just gave a bit of an awkward smile and a wave. Because he was socially awkward and couldn't talk. He had never felt more useless in a room full of people in his life. Actually, this was generally why he avoid rooms filled with people. He always felt like an idiot. That and he always felt rude, not like he could ever help it.
The Rabbit thing was still weird. He had never actually seen one before, and honestly thought they didn't exist. Well, gee, this proved all those theories wrong. Not like he was surprised at all. Misconceptions were and everyday thing.
He absently twirled his bracelet. This was so awkward it hurt.

George gave Hatter a small smile, still hesitant, but getting to like the man...he was rather open and friendly.
"Glad t-to hear it, here you are." He said with a fleeting grin, handing the man a cup of tea and a saucer, then handing over a small tumbler of cream and a spoon coated in honey.
He watched as Hatter's grin almost seemed to consume his face at the sight of Ellen and nearly laughed, holding it back as he took the other man's interest in Ellen to lean back in to Conway, still slightly worried.
"Are you ok, Conway?" He asked, handing him tea and additives as well. "If you're worried about Ellen, you n-needn't be, she's quite wonderful. D-do you need somewhere with less people? I could take you t-to the drawing room for a minute?"
He hoped Conway would be alright...maybe if he took him aside and explained some things he would be ok?
Ellen, meanwhile, turned to the Hatter with a smile and held out a paw.
"That's right, sir. Ellen. It's nice to meet you as well, what brings you out to the Tulgey?"
She sniffed at his pants leg for a second...then gave him a fleeting smile. Tuning to see that George and his friend were still busy, she cocked her head to him and murmured.
"Joker, eh? What brings you to our residence?"

Hatter accepted the tea and even began to doctor it accordingly without ever taking his eyes off Ellen. What a pretty doe! Even aged as she was, she was lovely. He wanted to pet her but wouldn't have dreamed of treating her with such absent familiarity that he treated Marchie with. Marchie was a lost puppy more than a Rabbit anyway. He sipped his tea and, were he a cat, he would have been purring with content. Tea and Rabbits and Interesting People, that was always the perfect occasion. He set his cup down gently on the table and extended a hand to Ellen's paw, shaking it gently. He debated for a second telling her his wanderings had brought him to the Tugley again because he was thinking about Rabbits... He smiled lop-sidedly and was about to do just that when her comment very clearly jarred him. Joker? She... How did she know His eye twitched very slightly and he was reminded once again of all that he did not know about Rabbits and all that Marchie would never be ale to tell him. Marchie really was a Card in Rabbit Form. Quickly he regained himself and smiled warmly, even seeming a bit calmer than before if that was at all possible. Hatter was an odd man, even for a Joker, and his personality could seem split even on the best of days. Now was no different. "Yes ma'am, a Joker." He bowed his head a little, glancing absently toward George and Conway. Had they heard? He pushed onward with the hopes that they were distracted. "To be bluntly honest, curiousity. I've always been fascinated by The Wood...and, well, the rumors of Rabbits that pertain especially to this place. I ran into George and Conway and he invited me here. I must say I am especially pleased to have come."

Conway accepted the tea with a weak smile. He put a bit of sugar in it, but not much else. Again, tea wasn't his forte and more often than not he didn't bother to put anything in it. He twirled the cup in his hands a bit before answering. "I'm sorry. I'm fine."
Well that was a bit of a lie.
"It's been a very long time since I've been in a room with so many people. I'm just not used to it and... I don't know. I'm terrible in social situations because of this stupid not being able to talk to more than one person thing. I can't even give proper greetings." Conway bit his lip. He sounded like an idiot didn't he? "I'm really sorry. I'm fine. Really."
Maybe if he told himself that everything would be fine. He was so focused on feeling like an idiot he didn't here a hint of the word "Joker" going on in the other conversation.
