With everything that had been going on as of late, wandering off should have been the last of his intentions. And yet, as was made quite obvious by his presence on the edge of Tugley Wood, he had most surely wandered off again. Too long in one place left him itching to move, left him confused and uncomfortable, and he was glad to be somewhere new again. At least he'd thought far enough in advance to leave Kaden with a note for Loreta before dropping him off at Rocky's house. He'd be back shortly, he always was when moments like these struck. He just needed a change of scenery. For most people, 'a chance of scenery' meant anything but the edge of The Woods, but here Hatter was; basking in the aura of Weird that radiated off the place like a cloud. It didn't bother him so much, regardless of the oddity of it all. It was mostly the legends of Rabbits that drew him here time after time, curious about those mysterious 'fairytales'. Marchie had long proved to Hatter the assuredness of their existence, but Hatter still wanted to know more. So there he was, sitting on the edge of The Woods watching wisps of sunrise filter through the trees and daydreaming of Cats and Rabbits and all those delightful things. It was good to get away.

A thin, pale shape moved easily through the brush at the edge of the Tulgey. The Wood had lost most of its terrifying aspects for the young man ever since he had been taken as his Master's ward a few months ago. Already the place felt more like home than anywhere else ever had in his memory, and he would gladly stay on with his Master until he died if he could. He meandered slowly through a thicker, twisted patch of trees, admiring their peeling birch bark and smiling...he did that alot now...smile. It felt good and he picked up the pace a little as the very edge of the Wood came into view, Torquhelm beyond it...he knew. He couldn't help but wonder of that flying Cat was still there somewhere...still being odd and curious. Or waiting for him. The thought gave him a sudden chill and he stopped in his tracks. He would never return to the palace of Hearts again...not unless Mr. Whip needed him...he would still do anything for Mr. Whip...even if he was The Queen of Hearts. He gazed around the edge and suddenly a good bit of color leapt out at him... Green? And alot of it...who was...that? He moved forward cautiously, ready to bolt back into the Wood as he eyed the other Human. People with Human forms tended to be nice...Conway had been nice...Conway...he hoped he would see him again someday...he had liked Conway... A thought occurred to him and with a grin he suddenly moved closer, still edgy, still ready to run. "Excuse m-me...do you know Conway?"

Hatter had been perched on a log at the edge of The Woods, legs crossed as he stared into the branches of the trees and lost himself in thought. So much had happened, so much to think about... He missed Her and he wanted to go back, but there were other things he needed to do first.
So many people relied on him now. It was terribly strange, but he enjoyed it. Even if his son was a nightmare.
The eccentrically-clad stranger was abruptly jolted from his thoughts by a shy voice. It had come from The Wood but it did not sound like a Tugley usually did. They all had a unique sound, of course, and it always oozed with just a little bit of weird and a whole lot of 'hey you, get out of my Wood'. This voice was curious and it was...looking for someone?
Hatter cracked one red eye, and then a brilliant blue one to match...er, well...as much as his two-toned eyes could match.
"Conway? I'm afraid not. Should I?" His tone was cheerfully confused, but he didn't dwell on it. Instead he held out a hand boldly and grinned. "I'm Hatter, though."
Not a Tugley, in fact, but a Torque. Hatter liked Torques. They were always so very interesting and, he had to admit, their sad little bindings taught them some character. Well, that is, if they could overcome their handicaps.

"Oh..." The man's tone dropped an octave as he sighed in disappointment...Conway...where had he gone?
He looked up again at the stranger, taking another hesitant step forward...the man was wearing nice colors...he loved color, especially other people's clothing or fur or feathers...it was so lovely to look at and...the man's hair was nice too...the red feathers...
He wasn't coming forward or making any move to come at him, maybe he could finally stop running? After all, Father was dead...
Is he?
Yes...Master said-
He still wants you dead...he'll find you...
George stood still for a few moments, a shiver running through his body, eyes slightly glazed...they focused again within a few seconds though, and George took a tiny step back again.
"Hatter? Hatter...no, no I suppose you wouldn't. I...I'm George."

Hatter's head cocked a little to the side as George's voice lowered with disappointment. Was this Conway someone important? Slowly Hatter sat up from where he'd been lounging and stretched as he rose to his feet, extending a hand to George in proper greeting although he didn't move forward to pursue him.
The boy was, after all, inching backward as if he were afraid of something.
Hatter hoped it wasn't him, he wasn't -- in his own opinion -- anything to be afraid of.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, George. If I run into this Conway fellow then I'll let 'im know you're looking for him." As he spoke his two-toned eyes traveled downward to fall upon those silver chains and...
Oh! A watch? His attention perked, curiosity rising. "I like your watch." He burst into his usual wide grin, thoughtless as to whether he was broaching any of his usual personal boundaries. At least he hadn't bounced forward to give him a friendly poke, right?

George retreated in surprise at first, as the other man stood and came forward, hand outstretched...but he didn't come further forward. After a few seconds, he stopped and looked at the offered appendage.
Slowly, he stood a bit straighter and came back forward. Taking the other man's hand hesitantly, he shook it slowly up and down...then dropped it.
"It...it's good to meet you t-too...Hatter..."
He brightened almost instantly when Hatter mentioned looking for Conway.
" You will? Really? T-thank you...I've been looking for him..."
His voice trailed off slightly, he was worried, it had been a month since he'd seen Conway, what if he was hurt? He only looked up again when Hatter spoke.
"M-my watches? Thank you, my Master gave them to me."
He refrained from explaining that the watches also impeded his ability to use his other two forms...Master said it was good for him so it must be...

Hatter kept his friendly smile full and visible as he waited for George to take his hand. He really hoped that the poor guy wasn't actually afraid of him. Then again, he had to admit the Torque appeared afraid of his own shadow too... So it wasn't entirely hard to believe.
Whoever Conway was, though, he appeared to be someone George was most definitely fond of. Did he live around here, on the Edge of the Woods? Or was George just expecting him?
"I will. Sure, it's no problem really." He tipped his hat to George with a beaming smile. "Especially if you've been looking for 'im. It's no good to let you worry over something if I can help to fix it."
He beamed a little and nodded cheerfully for all that the mention of Masters was a bit odd. Humans were typically the top of the line, they didn't have Masters...did they? Hum, oh well. Maybe he was an apprentice or something?
"You're welcome. I'm a fan of watches too, see:" and with that he produced his pocket watch with the intricate "A" engraved on the surface; flourishing it for George's benefit.

(( OOC: XD I was told by Vynnie I could step in with Conway. ))Conway had decided that before his job in the Highlands he would stop by to visit George. Well it didn't quite work out that way, he had gotten the job and it's love introduction of being stabbed in the back with a high heal shoe, and then decided to take the paid vacation offered so he wouldn't suffer from the abuse. It had taken him longer than he had expected to get where he was going. When he got to the edge of the Wood he was more than happy to see it, even with the radiating weird. "George?" He called before he saw much of anything. Then he stopped dead in his tracks. Oh crap, there was a person it obviously bright colors right in front of his face, and he hadn't noticed. Maybe if he backed away right now....? Being the most unobservant person was a bad thing when you could only speak to one person at a time. Damn. How was he going to explain this?

George grinned, still delighted that the man was willing to assist him...he was then distracted as Hatter pulled out a large and very pretty watch, with an "A" carved into the lid.
"Oh..."
He whispered, almost reverently as he stared at it, reaching out a hand to allow his fingers to trace the letter and the shine of the silver.
"Oh, that's beautiful. Who's it from? Is it really silver, my Master loves sil-"
He froze, staring over the other man's shoulder as sudden movement alerted him...and someone walked directly into Hatter. George's face split into a wide grin as he poked his head around Hatter's tall frame.
"Conway!"
He yelled in delight, not quite certain what was the proper way to greet someone you thought you were never going to see again. After wavering on his decision for a few seconds...he awkwardly attempted to hug the man.
"Conway, I'm so glad to see you! I hadn't thought...well, oh! This is Hatter!"
He gestured to the man in the pinstripe with a grin.
"He has watches too, have you been traveling long, either of you?"

Hatter absolutely beamed when George saw his watch, delighted by the way the boy seemed to take such fascination to it. Hatter rather liked him so far, regardless of how skittish he seemed.
"It's a gift from My Queen." He said this quite proudly and was about to ask a little about the boy's Master, for he might have been a lot like Hatter's Queen. Not really A Queen, just his Queen. So maybe it was a personal title as well? Stranger things had happened. Before he could go on, however, George froze mid-sentence as he noticed something a few moments before Hatter did and, consequently, someone bumped into him.
The Corvie twitched a little and spun lightly on his heel, pocketing his watch in the same movement so that when he turned it was concealed again and he was staring quietly at the strange figure that George had called Conway. His brow's knitted together in confusion. Why...hadn't he heard him approach?
That was strange, but Hatter cast aside his paranoia with a shrug of his shoulders.
"Oh! I see! Hello Conway, it's a pleasure!" He tipped his hat cheerfully, grinning at George's introductions. Traveling long? Well yes, but...he hadn't really noticed. Nothing took all that long when you weren't really thinking about time or distance, the traveling had just been a nice change. "Somewhat. I came from Corvistowne, actually."
