Hadrian very easily complied and lowered his head into her lap. He sighed and closed his eyes, his tail wagging as he enjoyed the touch. "Heh, well I can try, right?" He knew he'd probably break that promise within the month, but he hoped she at least lasted the year to tease him about falling short on that promise. He looked up at her curiously when she pushed him away. He regretted the next thing that came out of his mouth, but really, she deserved just one night of drinking, right?
"I could arrange that. Me getting it would keep the Doc off your back... until he finds out, but he can only rant at one of us at a time, right?" he smirked slightly.

Stupid pup. Trying would get him nowhere, especially trying to stay out of trouble. At least he'd be paying more attention. Maybe that would help him with raising Radek. Couldn't take your eyes off that one or he'd get into everything. Really. Everything.
She tugged on one of his 'hawk tufts as he pulled away and tried to relax. Her leg and hips were bothering her a lot today. It was hard to find a comfortable position. Hence the delightful burn of the alcohol to come.
"Damn straight, boy. You go get it and bring it back. Maybe ve can get a few drinks in before dinner. You can fetch that too, if you're in a particularly domestic mood. I don't feel like leaving the damn room for a vhile." After a few drinks, his request for one of her bindings wouldn't seem so foolish. It might even strike her as sentimental. Pah.

"Heh, yes ma'am! That doctor has been patrolling the kitchens lately, though, asking the kitchen people about your eating and drinking habits behind your back," he gave a smirk and a wink before he left the room, "but you didn't hear it from me." That'll teach that overbearing prick to constantly harass Hadrian about potentially being an "enabler" for behavior Anoushka shouldn't be engaging in.
He went down to the kitchen and grabbed a bottle of vodka, then ordering food for two to be delivered to Anoushka's office. He explained that he was going to have a few drinks before having dinner with Her Highness. It was a very short explanation that, he noted, needed no elaboration. He carried the bottle and a glass in his vine bracers and a small bucket of ice in his mouth. He returned to the room and put everything down.
"Food will be here in about a half hour. Plenty of time to get a few down. You still have an extra glass in this room, right? I couldn't get an extra without getting the questions, too."

Anoushka took advantage of his absence to stand up and try to stretch. More like hobble and wince, but still. The damn report on her desk could wait. She hadn't been getting anything out of reading it anyway. Maybe a break was what she needed.
Something in her mind rebelled at that thought, especially since she'd taken an nap only three hours before, but she told it to shut up. Drink and company were on the way.
Her spirits perked up when he returned with booze and bucket in hand. Mouth, rather. She carefully reached over to snag the bottle and glass, leaving him to put the bucket wherever he'd like. "Yes, of course. I alvays keep a spare. I tell the doctor it's in case I need to take any pills vith vater." She snorted at the fool believing her and opened the vodka, cheered by the smell of the stuff as it reached her. She wasn't an alcoholic, but she could have been if she hadn't been so focused on her work. She really enjoyed a good drink. This stuff wasn't the best, but it would certainly do. Especially since that fool doctor made her hide her collection of various liquors in a more difficult to find - and thus inaccessible - location.
"Here, pup. A drink. To health. May it last for you as long as possible." She downed her shot like a pro.

Hadrian put ice in his glass before pouring his own vodka. He preferred all of his drinks cold, to which Anoushka offered him her theory on the matter in the form of a grin and several racist remarks in a past drinking session.
"To health," he said, swirling his drink to allow it to get colder then throwing it back. He wanted to say something to follow that up: something honest and heartfelt or something sarcastic and tasteless, but neither of them seemed appropriate. He just let it slide.
He only had one drink, and could drink far more before becoming completely plastered, but he was feeling oddly affectionate. He curled up by her feet and licked her toes.

Another hour or so and Anoushka felt pleasantly numbed. Damn the doctor, and damn her legs. She was going to enjoy herself, whether or not she died a day or two early because of a little drink!
She wriggled her toes and snorted when he started licking, which eventually turned into a bubbling laugh. Silly boy! She raised one foot to rub the top of his head, using her toes to scritch into his 'hawk. He was certainly one-of-a-kind, this one. Her third favorite, she supposed, in her years cheerfully seducing her Court's nobles. One of the best friends, though, by far.
Half a year later would find her immobilized, weak, and ill.
Of all the things to take her out, it ended up being illness! Her breathing was labored, her fur coarse and sparse. She didn't look well in the slightest and she didn't have long. It was taking its toll on her slowly but surely, a cold taking a turn for the worst as something else took hold in her lungs.
She didn't want to go out in a bed, unable to move. It was like some sort of nightmare. But she had to deal with it, and so she would. She'd asked that one of the attendants call Hadrian and Radek in, though. She didn't know how many days she had left and the doctor was hesitant for anyone to disturb her.

Hadrian dropped everything he'd been doing as soon as he was sent for by Anoushka. Radek tagged along behind, every once in a while whimpering up at his mother. He'd been informed of his father's condition and it made him worried. He asked a lot about death and if there was a better place beyond like some people said there was. Hadrian told him yes, but only if to hear it himself. This was a long time coming, but it didn't make it any easier. "Hey," he said quietly when he was let in. He was very glad he'd had the foresight to hold onto Radek before the door was opened. The anxious, wriggling toddler whined and struggled against the hold. He sat down beside the bed and put the child on the floor, holding him down with his vines. "Remember what we talked about, Radek? Now calm down," he whispered a bit harshly into Radek's ear. The last thing Anoushka needed was a child's panicked fretting. He came back up and leaned onto the bed. "Been working on this for the better part of the year," he stated as light-heartedly as he could, "Like it?"

When the door opened to reveal Hadrian and the whining pup, Anoushka had to smile. She really did. A pair of pups, the one holding the other one back. It would have been funnier if it didn't make her feel so horribly ancient. But the boy was standing quite tall, wasn't he? Taller than she'd ever seen him. Her eyebrow crept upward as he moved closer.
"Damn. You finally get it and I'm sick," she muttered, the sound accompanied by a wheeze of breath that made her ears flatten purely at herself. And having him see her like this. She shouldn't have waited so long, but she was glad she hadn't waited any longer. Who knew what she'd look like in a day or two.
But he looked good, at least. Young and strong and healthy. "The form suits you," she said after a moment of taking it in. "You can hold him vith your hands now instead of-" She took a breath and started coughing, turning away from the pair of them slightly until she stopped. That HURT and it made her feel so damn weak. But she supposed she should be past the point of caring. So why wasn't she? "Instead of just your mouth," she finished lamely.

"Heh, you mean I finally got off my punk ass and got it," he joked lightly and stroked her face. Really, he'd always wanted it and worked for it, but not as seriously as he had lately. When she turned and coughed, the noise weak and strained, he took his hand away to let her turn, but put it right back when he could.
"Oh trust me, it's been a godsend just in the past few days." He didn't mention that a good amount of the first day he'd spent in front of the mirror flexing. He then winced. "Radek is gnawing at my toes. I think that means he's ready to see you now." He reached down and lifted the child onto his lap, which he now occupied most of.
"H-hey Daddy," he said nervous. His ears were back and his tail wagged tentatively. He slowly crawled onto the bed to reach over and lick Anoushka on the cheek. "I... I love you," he barely whispered from a crouched position.

"That's exactly vhat I mean," Anoushka agreed with an amused wheeze, hating that this whatever-it-was had devolved into pneumonia and was kicking her ass. Quite obviously kicking it, up one side and down the other.
She was the only one in the room without energy, though. She could hear the pup wriggling by the floor, against Hadrian's legs and the bottom of the bed. It was impossible for puppies to be quiet.
Grunting, she pushed herself to more of a sitting position on the pile of pillows propping her up, waving off any assistance until she was no longer pseudo-slouched. One eye closed as he got close to her face, a preventive measure, but the worst he did was lick her. And be adorable.
She stared at him for a long moment before reaching up one hand to plunk it down on his head. "You're a good kid," she muttered. "If I had to have von, I'm glad I had you. Keep the terror to a minimum. Be good for Mommy. He's allowed to dangle you out a window othervise." She turned her head to hack again, not wanting to get any stray flecks of spit on either of them and feeling reasonably disgusting as she did so.
