After being cooped up inside for so long, closed in a single room with no fresh air besides what drifted through the window, Anoushka was more grateful for the garden than she could say. It brought back painful memories of mobility, but at least those memories distracted her from her present condition. Somewhat. At least, more than other things had managed to in the past few days. And Hadrian's was a comfortable presence at her side.
Very carefully maneuvering against him, the wolf grunted and looked pointedly at a bench nearby. "I vant... to go right... over there. Then ve can... vatch the damn sky... vhile I catch my breath." The halting speech interspersed with light panting was alien to her ears, and very unwelcome. Though perhaps not as unwelcome as the dizzy, rushing sensation in her head and the pain that lanced up her side and through her lungs. Everything else was a dull ache compared to those two complaints.
She settled herself down with assistance and carefully used him as a brace to stay upright. She wouldn't protest whatever assistance he offered at this point, however much her pride rankled at the thought. Because she just couldn't do it by herself. Gods damn it all to hell.
"Don't suppose I have many more sunsets like this von," she eventually muttered, and then cursed. "Don't ever get old, Hadrian. You von't like it. But... thank you."

"Of course," he said softly. He started moving again slowly as to not jostle or take her off guard and lead her to the bench. Before she sat he had his Vine bracers spread the blanket out on the bench as to not subject her rump to the cold bench. When She settled herself, he wrapped the blanket over one side of her and held her on the other side. He stroked her head as she spoke, only giving a non-committal grunt at her countdown of sunsets. He really didn't want to think about it.
"Heey... are you implying I should die young?" he asked in mock offense then kissed her temple. "Oh, this is a nice pink sunset. I'm glad. I'd hate to get my ass kicked for treating you to a crappy sunset."

A very pleasant embrace. Anoushka relaxed into it and let the vines do as they would, the warmth of the thermal heater next to her warring with the chill from the bench that faintly seeped through the blanket. It was easier to deal with so long as she had a warm contract beside her, and the blanket generally insulating everything else.
Better you die young than go through this bullshit, pup. But she didn't say that. It was unnecessary. Especially when he was trying to distract her. Out loud, she yawned and scratched at a thigh. "I'm glad, too, for your sake. I'd hate to spend all my energy on your sorry ass and then go back to the room vith nothing left. The sunset pleases."
She didn't say anything more, letting the calm of the moment wash over her and leave her feeling less angry and pained than she had been. The stiffness of the bench wasn't doing her any favors, but it didn't really matter. She wouldn't have moved for anything, her coughing fits be damned. Only when the cold of the evening began to descend and the sun had firmly set beneath the horizon did she shift to glance over at him. They would only keep the doctors at bay for so long. And she was feeling the tightness in her chest giving her trouble. She didn't want him to watch her struggle to breathe.

They shared the moment in silence, watching the sun set. If they had more time together, there would be more to say. At the time, it seemed like silence was what was needed. There was still an ambient light, but the sun was set and the air was noticeably colder. The arm around Anoushka's waist felt her breathing change. the tightness and the rattle.
"C'mon. I think it's time to get back. No more use staying out here." He helped her up and back to her room where a very flushed and angry doctor was waiting. He helped her to the bed. Well, as much as he could with the doctor trying to take over as much as he could. Once Anoushka was settled Hadrian was then dragged out of the room and yelled at. There were few times in his life that Hadrian had been yelled at and didn't cow. Now was one of those times. He felt justified. He simply nodded his head and gave as half-hearted apology to the seething doctor and left.

The doctor simply wanted what was best for the King of Clubs, to take care of her as he'd been instructed and paid to do. No one was saving her at this point. The best they could hope to do was make her comfortable, keep her calm, and wait for the end with as much dignity as she could manage.
She would have snarled a few choice words at him if she'd had the energy. Or the breath. Three days after Hadrian absconded with her for the evening, she had severe difficulty breathing for the entire afternoon. By the next morning, she had died.
Her successor was entirely at her Queen's discretion. She'd left arrangements and instructions, but they would only be good for so much.
Hadrian was left one of her bindings, as per his request. He'd also been left her entire collection of alcohol, one of the only things she had bothered to accumulate throughout the years. Her room contained few personal possessions. She had otherwise lived a very spartan and minimalistic life. And a long one. Longer, perhaps, than she would have liked.
